[For OLE/Windows cracks only] Focus a window

2007-05-07 Thread Mark Milke
Hi floks,

I have two forms. On each form I have a button to open the other form.
My users demand that, if the other form is already open, they just
want to focus is and not to open it one more time.

I thought I could send a message from one window to another and the
other window could issue a windows command to say "bring myself to the
front". Unfortunately I wasn't able to find this kind of windows
command.

I hope OLE/Windows cracks among you can tell me which windows function
to call and how to get this done.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

libclntch.sl - Remedy 7.01 patch 2 install fails on HP 11.31 (IA64) with Oracle 10gR2

2007-05-07 Thread Dignard, Norman

We are attempting to install Remedy 7.0.1 patch 02 on a new server (HP
Integrity rx2620), the configuration is:

HP UX 11.31 (HP11i (v3)) with Oracle 10gR2.

On a non root installation Remedy errors with the message
/usr/lib/dld.sl - cannot find $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libclntsh.sl.10.1 and
aborts the installation. The file does not exist on the system and
according to Oracle, it does not exist on an install on an IA64
architecture. If I link libclntsh.sl to libclntsh.sl.10.1, the
Remedy installation fails but the error message is invalid shared
library libclntsh.sl.10.1.

Is there a solution to this installation issue? Would there be a hot
fix/patch/workaround available to resolve this problem.

Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Regards,

Norm Dignard

One thing to check... Are you sure you have installed and are pointing
to the 32 bit Oracle 10g client?

Remedy is a 32 bit app so it requires the 32 bit Oracle client (even on
a 64 bit system)

Axton,

While I can see the benefits of collecting usage information, I'm not overly
convinced that Remedy is the best place to put that information. Why don't
you modify the code to write the data out to an Apache style log file so it
can be used in conjunction with awstats (or another funky web stats engine)?

Notification Preferences for ITSM 7.X - System Default types

2007-05-07 Thread Lammey, Peter A.
Ive been working on building out on our test instance of ITSM 7.X to
more or less simulate how we would envision our upgrade to go with
production.
I was trying to see if I could change the notification preference for a
person profile so that the person will only get Incident Assignment
notifications if they were assigned as an individual but not if the
assignment went to their group.

We have some groups from our broadcast areas that have supervisors that
handle taking the tickets in their group and assigning then to the
technicians.
They do not want the technicians to get the notification when the ticket
is assigned only to their group to prevent them from picking up the
ticket themselves.

It seems that however in Notification preferences I cant modify "System
Default" types at all.

Does anyone know of a simple back door way to update them?

What I ideally would want to do is for certain people who are only
technicians (who are not supervisors for the groups) would be to change
their Group Notification To No for the Incident Assignment Notification.

If I created an entry for Incident Assignement for the person and
specified No for Group Notification, would that override the System
default notification for Incident Assignment Notification?

ITSM 7.0.x Patch 004

2007-05-07 Thread strauss
Has anyone seen or heard anything further on the patch 004 developed for
Change Management 7.x and the Service Desk 7.x applications? The
technical bulletins went out last Wednesday, and are available on
SupportWeb under documentation, but the patches themselves have yet to
appear in the "Patch Downloads for BMC Remedy Products" interface.
Rooting around in the ftp paths I found their files dated 4-18-2007, and
the readme's indicate that they will be rather involved to install, with
the added attraction of destroying the incident management task template
add-on (which has a serious flaw, anyway) and I have to assume that they
will also wipe out the Remedy Knowledge Management integrations that I
have had to add manually to the incident, problem, and service request
forms. Seems like these application patches break as much as they fix,
in their current incarnations.

I see a Priority field in the AR System Email Message form. When I send an

Lovely. I think it's time for someone with a big thinking cap at BMC to
take a bit of time to think up and implement a patch process that customers
WANT to follow; one that is worth the investment of time and effort. The
current one doesn't have any sane person doing handsprings in the hallways.
Maybe they're hamstrung by some flaws in the application architecture, but
that shouldn't be the customer's problem to deal with.

I just installed patch 3, and would have to see a VERY compelling reason to
patch further.

Thanks for the suggestions Joe and Axton - I think I'm going to take the
display-only fields route and concatenate that.

Another (much more complex) idea I had was creating a filter API plugin
that would provide either a) specific content-based formatting or b)
standard regular expressions. If AR System had "standard" (as opposed
to their hack of an implementation) regex capabilities, I would be very
very very happy.

You could also parse the char value and write each octet to an integer
field, in which case testing the limits becomes much easier. Each octet
is an 8-bit value, comparative operations against an integer for this
type of data is much easier with a data type that easily represents the
true value. A 3 character string is really 24-bit for single byte
characters and up to 48-bit for double-byte characters...
This is not the best way to store the data to test it the way you want.
Although, if you converted the represented 8-bit value from a string
into a character, you could easily test it.

I define VERY compelling as many of the current problems we have
encountered with the ITSM 7 suite patch 003 that have caused me to defer
implementation until they are fixed; I am hoping that patch 004 will fix
some of them, but I won't believe it until we install it and test it
again with live users. Until then, the application suite simply is not
ready for production use, and I refuse to inflict it upon people who are
trying to get real work done (and succeeding today with ITSM 5.5.1).

The way the patches work will continue to endanger any customizations,
and there will have to be some before we can put it into production
since the customer search dialogs fail to follow even previous ITSM
apps, and do not provide for searches on the login name - our key
identifier for who the customer is.

Lovely. I think it's time for someone with a big thinking cap at BMC to
take a bit of time to think up and implement a patch process that
customers WANT to follow; one that is worth the investment of time and
effort. The current one doesn't have any sane person doing handsprings
in the hallways.
Maybe they're hamstrung by some flaws in the application architecture,
but that shouldn't be the customer's problem to deal with.

I just installed patch 3, and would have to see a VERY compelling reason
to patch further.

Subject: ITSM 7.0.x Patch 004

Unicode on ARS7 and Oracle 10g

2007-05-07 Thread Rocky Rockwell

Folks,

I have a problem and need to ask some questions.

We are trying to upgrade to Unicode ARS 7.0.1 on Solaris 9 and Oracle
10g, from Non-Unicode ARS 5.1.2, Solaris 8 and Oracle 9i.

We are currently migrating from ARS 5.1.2 and Oracle 91 that is
currently taking about 30gb of of database space. Our Unicode ARS 7.0.1
and Oracle 10g database is currently at 75gb and we are not done.

Has anyone seen a 3 fold increase in database resources when using
Unicode ARS 7.0.1 and Oracle 10g? This is causing us and management many
concerns. I await enlightenment to what I have missed.

Funny this question came up ... I was in the process of reviewing the
critieria I have on numerous IP fields for checking validity. It seems I'm
allowing .0 in the fourth octet and probably should not be. I've been
trying to decipher what each line means. I haven't looked up what the
carrot in line 4 means yet. We have 15 IP fields I have to validate.

I had been given the following Run IF and have been using it in filters.

Susan,

The ^ is an anchor used in pattern matching. It is used to anchor the
match to the first character. In this case it should not allow single
digit values. The 6th line would not allow values of 12. within the
string.

Manual Removal of Forms from Database

2007-05-07 Thread Kendhammer, Mike
Hi,

Without going into a long story here, I try to explain the aftermath...

I have a number of Join forms that appear to have been corrupted. The
view and corresponding record in the ARSCHEMA table exist, yet they do
not appear in the Admin Tool. (Yes, I did check that the 'By Form'
filter was set to All Forms...:-) ) They don't compile, thus underlying
tables have been altered or are gone. I do see an error in the
arerror.log file stating "The form definition file field count does not
match number of fields in the file (ARERR 403)" then the form name.

I need to know besides dropping the T and H tables and deleting the
records from the ARSCHEMA table, what other tables need to be updated or
dropped? It looks like records in many of the 'FIELD*' tables may need
to be updated as well. I no longer need these join forms, thus I don't
need to worry about restoring them.

 We are running ARS 6.3.0 patch 20 on HP-UX 11i/Oracle 9i.

If anyone has gone through the process of manually removing tables
within ARS, I'll like to hear your comments or see any notes/steps you
may have or gone through to do it.

Thanks!

I thought I would post this one more time.

Hi,

We are using ARS version 6.03. Does anyone know if you can set the Priority
in an email and have the email engine iterpret it for incoming emails? Can
it interpret it without using email templates?

I see a Priority field in the AR System Email Message form. When I send an
email out via Outlook as High, the Priority is always set to a value of 3.

Thanks,

You will have to create some custom workflow to capture the priority and most
likely a new form to capture the data that is in the email. I had a customer
that was using CA Unicenter that would send email alerts I used the from to
capture the email and then parse it into a new form to be used to create a new
HPD Ticket.

I just finished digging into the notification workflow and you need to review
the NTE:CFG-Notification Events form and the ITSM configuration manual around
pages 160 to 163. I think you will find by disabling some of the default

What I ideally would want to do is for certain people who are only technicians
(who are not supervisors for the groups) would be to change their Group
Notification To No for the Incident Assignment Notification.

If I created an entry for Incident Assignement for the person and specified No
for Group Notification, would that override the System default notification for
Incident Assignment Notification?

If the Supervisor gets the notifications all of the people in the group get
them. the new notifications are held in the SYS:Notifications form you might be
able to create new entries to be able to have this work the way you want by
reviewing all of the new notification workflow and adding some new workflow.

**
Ive been working on building out on our test instance of ITSM 7.X to more or
less simulate how we would envision our upgrade to go with production.
I was trying to see if I could change the notification preference for a person
profile so that the person will only get Incident Assignment notifications if
they were assigned as an individual but not if the assignment went to their
group.
We have some groups from our broadcast areas that have supervisors that handle
taking the tickets in their group and assigning then to the technicians.
They do not want the technicians to get the notification when the ticket is
assigned only to their group to prevent them from picking up the ticket
themselves.
It seems that however in Notification preferences I cant modify "System
Default" types at all.
Does anyone know of a simple back door way to update them?

User 1 installs the tool and the HOME folder does default to
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\AR System\HOME. It

User 2 logs in to Remedy on that same PC. A message pops up from Remedy

The HOME folder is created at the specifies location but it does not
create the arcmds folder.

We reported this as a bug (SW00255608) and Remedy accepted it as a bug
but even after explaining the problem no less than 5 times via email and

**

Good afternoon. Hope this note finds you all well.

I'm working on putting together the specifications for installing the
above software via SMS. We will be creating a silent installation
package. When I perform a default installation (including paths), the
setup wants to place the Home folder under my %USERPROFILE%. We like
this concept as we would want different people logging onto a PC to have
their own Home folders (macros, etc.) However, this path is hard-coded
in the registry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive so it will be used for
everyone who logs onto the PC. In our environment, most customers do
not have administrator rights on their PCs. When they log onto a PC
that was 'set up' for someone else, they won't have any rights to the
Home folder as it is under someone else's profile. They are offered the
ability to create some folders (via a very confusing error message). If
they do that, they don't have any of the server settings, etc. that were
defined during the installation process. I 'worked' with BMC and their
answer was, you guessed it, "it is functioning as intended." To
eliminate the error, they suggest placing the Home folder in a location
where everyone can get to it. We've done this in the past with previous
versions and it works, but we ran into situations where people were
seeing/changing/deleting other users' macros, etc.

Has anyone run into this and come up with a workable solution? We're
toying around with installing and copying files to all existing profiles
including the default profile so future logons would also get the
'stuff.' But, this can be messy and we shouldn't have to do it!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

We are using ARS version 6.03. Does anyone know if you can set the Priority

it interpret it without using email templates?

I see a Priority field in the AR System Email Message form. When I send an

Nachi,

You may want to double-check that. The posting states "we only need US
Citizens." I'm not an expert, but that may not be legal.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 explicitly prohibits employment
discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)'s site shows that in
Fiscal 2006, the EEOC received 8,327 charges of national origin discrimination.
Of these 8,181 charges were resolved, and monetary benefits for charging
parties totaled $21.2 million.

That was an averages $2591.37 per charge, not including charged settled through
litigation. So if they don't hire you based on that, you may stand to make
some decent money for your trouble.

Re: Manual Removal of Forms from Database

2007-05-07 Thread Robert Molenda
I'm attaching some SQL that you can use to determine what is blasted in
the definitions, at least from the ARServer definitions layer.

The script only LISTS the stuff which is wrong, and you can manually
clean it up accordingly. (Set output text on).

Standard words of caution: COMPLETE BACKUP B4 Cleanup

On the joins, they do not create B/T/H tables, but they do create VIEWS
of those schemaID's. Then the "Named view" does the select from the
T-view.

So if your SYSDepends table is accurate (which mine is not :( ) you need
to drop the views in the proper order.

If you have Q's about the script you can contact me privately, etc.

GOOD LUCK, and PS> I periodically about once a quarter use the script to
check the ARSystem data for problems...

Subject: Manual Removal of Forms from Database

Thanks!

I don't think that's what the Civil Rights Act of 1964 means. That is,
it doesn't protect the rights of non-citizens to work in this country.
I believe what it means is, if you're originally, say, from Ireland but
are now a US Citizen, a potential employer can't say, "I'm not hiring
you because you came from Ireland. I hate Ireland."

Now if you're from Ireland and not a US citizen, an employer is
perfectly free to say, "Get lost. We don't hire non-citizens."

That statute is for discriminating based on the country you come from,
not your legal status in the US. So for instance, if a company said they
will not hire anyone from China regardless of their immigration status,
that is illegal. But considering some companies that exclusively do
government contracting require secret clearance, which I have never
heard of a resident alien getting, US Citizenship is mandatory.

Subject: Manual Removal of Forms from Database

Hi,

Without going into a long story here, I try to explain the aftermath...

I have a number of Join forms that appear to have been corrupted. The
view
and corresponding record in the ARSCHEMA table exist, yet they do not
appear
in the Admin Tool. (Yes, I did check that the 'By Form'
filter was set to All Forms...:-) ) They don't compile, thus underlying
tables have been altered or are gone. I do see an error in the
arerror.log
file stating "The form definition file field count does not match number
of
fields in the file (ARERR 403)" then the form name.

I need to know besides dropping the T and H tables and deleting the
records
from the ARSCHEMA table, what other tables need to be updated or
dropped?
It looks like records in many of the 'FIELD*' tables may need to be
updated
as well. I no longer need these join forms, thus I don't need to worry
about restoring them.

 We are running ARS 6.3.0 patch 20 on HP-UX 11i/Oracle 9i.

If anyone has gone through the process of manually removing tables
within
ARS, I'll like to hear your comments or see any notes/steps you may have
or
gone through to do it.

Thanks!

Mike K.

Need help with filter qual

2007-05-07 Thread SUBSCRIBE arslist Neel
Hello fellow-listers,

We have a staging email-form that grabs incoming emails from 'AR System
Email Messages' form. When email have Incident number in email
subject-line, we parse the incident # and open incident in "Modify"
mode.

Now, we have a filter that executes on HPD:Help Desk on Modify and on
Submit both.

The Run If condition is:
( 'Status' != "New") AND ( 'TR.Status' != 'DB.Status')

If Action:
Push Values to: AR System Email Messages

Push Filed If:
'Incident Number' = $Incident Number$

If No Request Match: Take No Action

If Any Request Match: Modify All Matching Requests

Custom Fields: Status = Assigned.

The filter executes every-time I double-click the email record from
staging form (double-clicking a record in email staging form opens
incident window in modify mode) and now here comes a problem:

When the incident window opens up in modify mode, if I close the
incident window without doing ANYTHING (without modifying and saving
anything), it STILL processes the email status to "Assigned". I want to
be able to tag the email with Assigned status ONLY when I click "Save"
button on incident form.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Neel Gautam.

Fred has suggested the right way to do it, but I don't know if that explains
your problem. If you're closing the help desk form without hitting save, any
filters that fire on "modify" should not fire, regardless of the run if
qualification.

Neel, you should switch on filter and possibly active link logging, and see
if you can catch the piece of workflow that's running the push fields
action. Possibly there's something else - another filter or active link
that's doing it?

Matt Willis

Re: Need help with filter qual

2007-05-07 Thread Matthew Willis
Neel,

If someone hits the save button, that means the system has detected that one
field or other has been modified (i.e. "dirty" flag). You could run the
filter on modify, with no run if qualification (i.e. always runs, regardless
of what fields have changed). However, the changed fields may not have
actually changed, eg. coming back to the 'Status' != 'DB.Status' situation.

If you wanted to confirm for sure that something has changed, you would have
to run the '' != '' for pretty much every field you want to
catch.

Matt

ITSM 7 People import methodology

2007-05-07 Thread Rick Cook
I am attempting to create ITSM 7 people records from LDAP information, and
want to run this scenario by you more experienced few who may already have
done this:

I have the LDAP connection to the people data already, have stored that
information in a holding form (about 700 records), and have culled that
"get" down to only the 15 or so fields that appear to have useful data in
them.

I know I need to push the phone #s into the Phone Detail form first, and
will string parse that value as part of that push. There will be no Wallet,
Travel, Education, Attachments, Home Address, or Benefit, etc. info
imported.

I also need to perform some string manipulation on the LDAP formatting
(culling out the "CN=" type strings), after which I want to push the data
into the ITSM 7 People form, along with various local string/selection field
settings (i.e. Status, Client Type, $NULL$, etc.).

Once I have the import Filter built, I will create an Escalation to refresh
the data from LDAP to the holding form, which will cause the Filter to push
that data to the People form on Modify.

I will add the group memberships/roles/permissions later, as that's a much
smaller task that can be done manually.

Is there anything else I haven't thought of at all? Is there a
better/easier way?

I did it directly from my AD vendor form where Request ID(AD Login) does not
equal remedy login. You should not have to parse the phone if they have it in
one field. You will have to set status to Proposed and then update each record
either manually or through workflow to be enabled. Also be sure to set the
unrestricted access to be checked if you don't it can bite you later. You will
need to set the site and site ID. If you have more than one site you will need
multiple escalations.

That's all I remember off the top of my head.

Rick - your methodolgy sounds ok to me, although I'm not an expert.

I think you have one error though - the phone numbers do not go into the
Phone details form
- that is a display-only form for the Client - the phone numbers get
pushed to the people form.
If you look at the fields in the People form you will see that there are
severl phone numbers.
For each the country code and the area code are in different fields than
the remainder of the phone number.

Here at UNCW we are currently importing to the people form using the
Import tool, although not from Ldap.
Pushing a new entry, if you specify a Login Id, will also push a User
form entry: see
filter CTM:SubmitUserInfo_502, which executes on Submit only

I am busy trying to figure out how to do this from EIE against a SQL

"quality" of the EIE documentation isn't making this any easier. Right

Still looking for the solution that will be the easiest to

**
I am attempting to create ITSM 7 people records from LDAP information, and want
to run this scenario by you more experienced few who may already have done this:

I have the LDAP connection to the people data already, have stored that
information in a holding form (about 700 records), and have culled that "get"
down to only the 15 or so fields that appear to have useful data in them.

I know I need to push the phone #s into the Phone Detail form first, and will
string parse that value as part of that push. There will be no Wallet, Travel,
Education, Attachments, Home Address, or Benefit, etc. info imported.

I also need to perform some string manipulation on the LDAP formatting (culling
out the "CN=" type strings), after which I want to push the data into the ITSM
7 People form, along with various local string/selection field settings (i.e.
Status, Client Type, $NULL$, etc.).

Once I have the import Filter built, I will create an Escalation to refresh the
data from LDAP to the holding form, which will cause the Filter to push that
data to the People form on Modify.

I will add the group memberships/roles/permissions later, as that's a much
smaller task that can be done manually.

Is there anything else I haven't thought of at all? Is there a better/easier
way?

Rick - your methodolgy sounds ok to me, although I'm not an expert.

I think you have one error though - the phone numbers do not go into the
Phone details form
- that is a display-only form for the Client - the phone numbers get pushed
to the people form.
If you look at the fields in the People form you will see that there are
severl phone numbers.
For each the country code and the area code are in different fields than the
remainder of the phone number.

Here at UNCW we are currently importing to the people form using the Import
tool, although not from Ldap.
Pushing a new entry, if you specify a Login Id, will also push a User form
entry: see
filter CTM:SubmitUserInfo_502, which executes on Submit only

Re: Manual Removal of Forms from Database

2007-05-07 Thread Axton

You may have better luck importing a def of the same form type and
name into the server, then deleting that. That should keep your db
clean if it will work.

There are records in a lot of tables to clean up if you had any field
fields, workflow, form views, etc.

It sound like you may have some workflow that is doing a "Commit
Changes" even if nothing is changed. One way to check that is to open
an incident and close it without making any changes and see if the
modified date reflects a change.

You can also use the modified date field to determine if an incident was
just updated by the logged-in use.

Fred,

That's a great point!! But then it'll leave another question. What is
user modifies the incident WITHOUT changing the status? Is there anyways
we can say that a particular incident want modified by logged-in user?
It could be any change and not just status.

If you don't change status on a form then 'TR.Status' is NULL so it will
not match the database.

Change that part to ( 'Status' != 'DB.Status')

Hello fellow-listers,

We have a staging email-form that grabs incoming emails from 'AR System
Email Messages' form. When email have Incident number in email
subject-line, we parse the incident # and open incident in "Modify"
mode.

Now, we have a filter that executes on HPD:Help Desk on Modify and on
Submit both.

	The Run If condition is:
	( 'Status' != "New") AND ( 'TR.Status' != 'DB.Status')

Re: ITSM 7 People import methodology

2007-05-07 Thread Robert Molenda
Ouch, we only have 44K employees, but that is already enough! 116K?
PHEW...

We also have an "IDMS - Identity Management System" which is a Novel
eDir LDAP data as well. (funny thing huh?)

Our process is as this:

Each hour, query IDMS to see which records are "new / updated", and
shove the ifxGlobalID (the unique 'Person Key' if you like) into a
queuing form. This is done via a simple escalation against the IDMS-LDAP
form. We check for new/created('whenChanged' attribute) > $TIMESTAMP$ -
1.25 hours for escalation delay, etc. We do not worry about missing
records, because of the frequency of these darn records getting updated,
and although the update stamp changed, usually the data that "we" are
interested in is the same :-( - whoops I digress...

OK, now the queuing form is driven by a "ARDriver" .Net utility I wrote
which simply reaches out and presses the "Status->Trigger", calculates
data-feed statistics, sends out notifications on 'bad things', etc.

So the true "meat" of the process is all done via filters on the Queuing
form.

Pushing data in V4/5/6 to SHR:People was sure a heck of a lot easier, I
gotta tell you! (this is also how we do it in the V6 systems..) .
whoops, rambling again sorry...

So the bulk of the work involves:

> At any point during the checks, if something is wrong, the Queuing
entry is set to "Failed" and the error information is set into a text
field for human analysis <

Pull IDMS Data & Validation (Identity is mapped to a "Normal Active
Directory Account", etc) - We try to not accept garbage downstream.

If Phone Number is NULL or "garbage" - DEFAULT Phone Number (Business
Phone is a mandatory field!)

Setup Company (Fortunately, ours is a "Infineon Generic Contact"
company, so this is a bit easier!!)

Organization Check, and CREATE organization if necessary (**
Organization is not required, but if used, must exist
Company->Organization->Department)

Location Check, and obtain site linking if available, else Default to a
pre-defined "Unknown Location"

Check to see if the person ALREADY EXISTS as the logic is different on
Create / Update

Terminated Person Check (if IDMS = Terminated and person exists, setup
logic accordingly)

NEW_Person - Setup Default Fields

NEW_Person - Obtain predefined TEMPLATE to use (CTM:People Template)

NEW_Person - Generate a Person GUID (CTM:CFG PeopleTagNumGenerator)

NEW_Person - Push_PG (CTM:People Template PG)

NEW_Person - Push_PPPG (CTM:People Permission Groups)

NEW_Person - Push_People (CTM:People && CTM:People Permission Groups)

UPDATE_Person - Push_People (CTM:People)

Currently the only issue that I am aware of, is in the creation of the
USER entries, and that was just reported and I'm diagnosing it. I
believe that I need to separate the "NEW_Person - Push_People" actions
into two filters, but those who are interested and have digested
(without getting ill) the code can contact me privately.

How I created this was taking an AL+FILTER+SQL Logging of me manually
creating a person record. Then many tries at getting the code correct
:-(

I have a definitions file, but cannot send it to the list, so if you
would like it, please email privately...

I would shudder to think that if they build arserver with the shared libs,
