ARERR 9329 in Web Service Call

2009-08-03 Thread John Baker
Hello,

I haven't seen the entire thread but I doubt something like Apache CXF, or
even Axis 2, would generate broken WS calls. Certainly, SOAP UI isn't the
answer.

I am forever telling people that SOAP UI isn't a complete testing tool,
because in order to thoroughly test a WS, one needs to generate sources
(Ideally using a variety of different clients and languages), and test the
webservice. Why do this? The problem with webservices is that they're just
too complicated, and clients will often interpret the specification in
different ways. This is precisely why people are moving to straight XML
messages (RESTful) over a transport mechanism such as HTTP or JMS. Indeed,
our XML Gateway product embraces XML over WS, to allow easy integration with
the AR System (because we assume the AR System can send an XML string through
a WS call without getting that wrong!).

Take the WSDL, generate some sources using Apache CXF and test the solution.
That's what a client will be doing.

Or, buy a proper integration product and get the job done quickly, because
time is money!

Remedy and DOD SSO

2009-08-03 Thread John Baker
Hello,

The AR System does not have native SSO support, and only provides a set of
interfaces which you can implement at your peril (BMC provide no official
support for implementations).

Drag and drop SSO, which supports Siteminder:

http://www.javasystemsolutions.com/movies/SSOQuickInstall1024/

You can solve the problem today.

This was after reading a reply fron Dennis who said i may need the proxy

I think the real crux of the problem is that the servers can talk on port
443.we have been able to prove that, but the PC admin tool cant load the
WSDL.

This is a baffler.well for me anyway !

Hi Sean,

Have you tried it without using SSL to make sure that the issue is really with
SSL?

What I found that worked better for us was to save the WSDL and load into the
filter from disk versus the remote web server. It should allow you to setup
the filter and mappings offline without errors trying to make a connection.
Obviously you will need to resolve the connection issues but this allows you to
isolate WSDL and connection issues.

You will have to do the mapping twice but you may want to try it without SSL
first just to rule out WSDL issues, etc. Change the URL specified in the
soap:address location= in the WSDL file. If that works set the WSDL back up
for SSL (and reload/remap).

It sounds like their cert is not signed by a CA trusted by your Linux box since
you have to accept it. That can also cause issues if your Linux box doesn't
trust the issuer of their cert. The ARS web service call cannot perform the
intermediate step of accepting. Your server will need to trust the cert
without that manual accepting step. You will need to add their cert to your
java keystore on the ARS server. Look up KM-00020740 titled Problems
loading or running a webservice from a site hosting the WSDL on an SSL
webserver. in the BMC knowledgebase.

Hope this helps. I am by no means a web service guru but we just went through
this recently so what we did is fresh in my mind.
Jason

Re: Blank Atrium Core Console

2009-08-03 Thread Brian Bishop
Hi Christopher,

Thanks for this. The KB article identified the problem which was the atrium
directory hadn't been built. I suspect that this was due to my doing an
upgrade/overwrite of my 7.1 system with the 7.5 install. Thus ending up with
a 7.1 directory structure rather than a 7.5. It wouldn't re-build it so I
had to extract it from the zip file and build it manually.

Many thanks

I just upgraded our Mid Tier from 7.0.1 p5 to 7.5 p2 on our Windows 2003 Server
(it's a Mid Tier server only, AR Server is not installed).

We used to have JRE 1.5.0_11 and JDK 1.5.0_11.  I installed JRE 1.6.0_14 and
JDK6 and pointed the installation to these folders at installation.  After
installing everything (and a reboot just for good measure), the configuration
tool still shows that Java Version is 1.5.0_11.

Another thing is that we are at version Tomcat 5.5.17, I was hoping that the
Mid Tier installation would upgrade this to 5.5.25.  (the config tool still
shows 5.5.17)

Should I installed Tomcat 5.5.25 separately, and how can I point the mid tier
to Java Version 6?

My understanding is that the way contracts are implemented in 7.1 allows for
one contract per specific product so that the count function can work. When a
software is added to the CMDB there is work flow that looks for the 'contract'
and increments the count by 1 of licenses used. When a software is marked as
deleted, it is decremented in the contract count. That answer the count
function but doesn't answer your full contract management question. I'm not
sure how others are working around this.

In Asset 7.5 you can have a Master contract that is the roll up of an infinite
number of specific contracts. Say you have 5 contracts that are each for 5
copies of a software. You can manage expiration, renewal, etc of each at the
contract level. At the master contract level you manage the count of the 25
licenses and how much they are used.

I wanted to know if anyone else had run into this and if there were any
resolutions.

In working with DSL we have ran into an issue in that Remedy Asset
Management/DSL will block you from adding multiple contracts with the same
product. So if you have contract A for Microsoft Visio and you associate the
Microsoft Visio configuration to the contract, you are unable to add a second
contract and also unable to associate Microsoft Visio to it. We have hundreds
on software contracts with the same product, as I would imagine many complex
organizations would have.

The error message is

“This model version you have selected has already been related to an existing
contract (test contract). Select a different one. (ARERR 44869)”

Active Link is AST:PDR:RelatePD_015_DupFound – action 1 (ARNOTE 1101)

I think the most interesting question - is max concurrent users and
then a normal daily max.

Then -- the follow on question -- what architecture do you have to
support that.

Cause -- you could split 10,000 floating licenses across 100,000,000
people -- of which -- if only 10 access at a time -- who cares.

You may want to consider using Kinetic Link -- free/opensource -- to
get info out of Remedy and then generate HTML/PDF.

John,

I heartily concur that the question you pose is far more interesting, but far
too often management is trying to advance some agenda of its own rather than be
interesting or academic.

In this case, the number of maximum concurrent users and the total number of
licensed users more than fits the requirements. ;-D

Re: Webservice - HTTPS problem :o(

2009-08-03 Thread Jason Miller
If you use the offline mapping method with their WSDL saved to disk, your PC
should not need to make a connection to their server. Trying to map using
the URL will require a connection be made to load the WSDL definition.
Offline you have have the definition and can do all the work from your admin
tool/workstation. Then when you save the filter with the mappings the ARS
server will make the connection to their server when the filter is
triggered.

Is there an ACL (Access Control List) or firewall rules setup to allow the
servers to communicate where a connection can not normally be made? When
trying to load their WSDL using a URL from their server your PC where the
Admin Tool is running will need to have the same access to their server
hosting the web service as your ARS server does.

I guess if you really needed to you might be able to use an SSH tunnel from
your PC to route admin tool traffic through you ARS server. By doing this
your Admin tool would be using the same ACLs and/or firewall rules as the
ARS server. BE WARNED!!! This may be against security policies on either
side (and shouldn't be necessary if you go the loading the WSDL from a saved
file route). You may want to do a little research before you go this route.

 ** Hi Sean,

Have you tried it without using SSL to make sure that the issue is really
 with SSL?

What I found that worked better for us was to save the WSDL and load into
the filter from disk versus the remote web server. It should allow you to
setup the filter and mappings offline without errors trying to make a
connection. Obviously you will need to resolve the connection issues but
this allows you to isolate WSDL and connection issues.

You will have to do the mapping twice but you may want to try it without
SSL first just to rule out WSDL issues, etc. Change the URL specified in
the soap:address location= in the WSDL file. If that works set the WSDL
back up for SSL (and reload/remap).

It sounds like their cert is not signed by a CA trusted by your Linux box
since you have to accept it. That can also cause issues if your Linux box
doesn't trust the issuer of their cert. The ARS web service call cannot
perform the intermediate step of accepting. Your server will need to trust
the cert without that manual accepting step. You will need to add their
cert to your java keystore on the ARS server. Look up KM-00020740
titled Problems loading or running a webservice from a site hosting the
WSDL on an SSL webserver. in the BMC knowledgebase.

Hope this helps. I am by no means a web service guru but we just went
through this recently so what we did is fresh in my mind.

field separator in menu append

2009-08-03 Thread shweta kumar

Hello
I have attached a character field to a menu with Append Items option.
Out-of-box, a field separator is not inserted between different menu items. How
can I insert a field separator between menu items?

Thanks
Shweta

By default, the client will separate them by spaces. If you would like I
different separator, create an active link to execute on menu select and
perform a set-fields to run the function replace() to replace the spaces
with what other character(s) you want. I'm not looking at the docs right
now and not at work so I can't say for sure if the function is called
replace but I know it exists with some name.

Shweta,

The selection of a menu item is interpreted as a Return / Menu Select.. Do what
you want to do with your data on selection of an item with an Active Link that
fires on Return / Menu Select..

Re: ARInside

2009-08-03 Thread Axton
The ARInside mailing lists are now available.

There are 3 lists:
  arinside-misc: general discussion
  arinside-src: system generated commit messages
arinside-announce: used for announcements (releases, etc.)

The lists are accessible here:
  http://lists.arinside.org/mailman/listinfo

I strived to set up the mail server so most common mail providers do not
flag the messages as spam. I am using spf (sender policy framework) and
dkim (domain keys identified mail) to accomplish this. If you run into
issues where you do not receive mail or your mail provider flags the message
as spam, please send that information to me so that I can work to correct
the issue.

 ** Jason,
Please feel free to go in and open enhancement requests for features you
would like to see. As this project gets off the ground we will be needing
to upgrade the API base from 7.0.1 to 7.5 to incorporate changes, but
without people asking for things, we won't be able to give them.

** Thank you all for keeping this alive. While we have been able to run it
against our 7.5 server there are obviously features that ARSInside does not
know about on 7.5. I have been worried about the day that this great
(FREE) tool becomes obsolete. I am not a C programmer (it may be time
to learn) but I would love to help out however possible. I just signed up
 for my account.

 Thanks again!

I worked with LJ, Stefan (original author), Carey, and a few others to
bring this together. I am acting as nothing more than the sys admin for the
site for the time. I would encourage anyone who has c++ skills and an
appetite for open source software to register an account on the site and get
in touch with LJ to keep this great piece of software alive and growing.
There are a lot of ways in which this software could grow, imagination and
time are really the only limiting factors on where this software can go.

The site currently includes the following services:
 - Subversion (source control) available at http://svn.arinside.org
 - Trac web front-end (ticket tracking, file downloads, wiki area, roadmap,
 etc.)

I will be adding the following services in the near future:
 - mailing lists:
   - general discussion: just as it's named
   - source changes: mail commits
   - announcements: low volume, release announcements, pr, etc.

Please feel free to report issues and request enhancements using this site
as it is the home of ARInside. Community involvement will be the driver for
addressing these issues, so feel free to get involved as you see best.

LJ is acting as the lead for this project to get things moving so please
reach out to him for any special requests or contributions.

kind enough to setup some stuff over at ARInside.org for us. Anyone
interested in becoming a part of the project, please contact me. There are
mailing lists that can be subscribed to where we will start discussions
