Time out Error in Externla Db Access
Hi Folks! So here is the thing about the time out error I am getting. The error that I am recieving is ARERR [93] Timeout during data retrieval due to busy server -- retry the operation Now a small detail on the operations i am performing on the background. 1. A simple SQL Menu where values are fetched from an External db through a db link.(This is one place where the same time out occurs.) 2. An active link which runs on a button click. Now here, the time out occurs only on the actions where there is access to this external db using the same db link which was used above. These actions are simple SQL select statements which retrieve a single row and insert of one record into the external tables and so are not huge time intensive queries. The db link which we tried using at first was a normal db link. At this time we had lots of time out being thrown. Now we tried with a public database link after that, although we know that there is no performance difference between both. Now the time out frequency has come down. Can anyone suggest ways to avoid these time outs completely. These queries which ran from the workflows where tested from Oracle client by connecting to the aradmin db using the same db links and it seems to run pretty fine without considerable delays. The Server logs and client logs also doesn't suggest much, as in client logs the error thrown were just something which says -error while performing filter action- on the correspoding action where the time out occurs(which only happens in one of the action where the external db is accessed) and there is nothing from SQL, filter logs, arerrr logs etc. Any suggestions and solutions are appreciated Thanks in advance :) - With Warm Regards, Naveen -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Time-out-Error-in-Externla-Db-Access-tp29552047p29552047.html Sent from the ARS (Action Request System) mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug10 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are

The newest thing I can see out there in the new EPD site (which I looked at for the first time today) is BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite 7.6.02 from May 2010, so I guess they don't have it all loaded yet. Data transfer between Incident and Service Request.
We have both Incident 7.0.03 and SRM 2.2. When a Service Request creates an Incident the SR InstanceID field is pushed to the Incident SRInstanceID field. However, when the helpdesk creates an Incident the subsequent SR InstanceID is not pushed back to the INC, although other information is, such as the AppRequestID (i.e.: REQ9371). So I know information comes back to the INC. Based on this occasionally common InstanceID data I can push the resolution from the INC to the SR. I want to push the resolution from the INC to the related SR. I know I can do this when the Incident is Resolve based on the SR Request Number. I want to understand how the Remedy OOB code sends data from the SR back to the originating Incident during the creation process. This is now ‘understanding challenge’ for me. I logged the workflow for ACTL and Filter when submitting an INC and the subsequent SR creation. I see where the filter SRM:REQ:OnSubmit_IncidentRequestType_FromIM`! pushes the AppReqestID and the SRInstanceID to the SRM:AppInstanceBridge from. The AppRequestID (i.e.: REQ….) is later pushed to the originating Incident. However, the SRInstanceID data does not subsequently get pushed to the originating Incident. In a series of filters called in a looping routine, various information is pushed to the CAI:EventParams form. One piece of info that is included in this looping to the CAI:EventParams form is the AppReqestID (REQ000..) number. Is the CAI:EventParams form the key to getting the Service Request InstanceID to the INC SRInstanceID? After that, I can’t see how the data is moving from the CAI:EventParams form to the INC form. Do the entries on this form get evaluated and then pushed to a designated form based on a field value on the form? If so, I can examine the various filters that are called in this particular process and create a new one based on those examples. I know this is rather vague and more of a learning request than a broke-fix request. If it is inappropriate to ask here just say so. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug10 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are

This was the first release with the ITSM Pre-configured Suite Stack Installer - which is only available with the IT Service Management Suite - and that influenced the release of the Suite as a whole. Re: Searching for CIs with specific related records
Rick, OK, it has been a few weeks. So, I am behind a little.. The operation you describe is a standard, supported operation within the CMDB. You can go to a CMDB screen directly and perform this search. You can request exactly what you want For class that holds OSes (OK, so I don't know the name) where value is Windows 2003 that is connected using a relationship of class y to the class that holds patches where the value of the patch is service pack 3 And to go further, it could be Computer systems that are connected to OSes using relationship z and the query from above to find the systems rather than the OS instances. No joins need to be created. No special preparation. You can do a multi-class search following relationships and get back a result of the system following the cross class qualification. Hopefully, you have found this by now. But, just in case not, I wanted to send a note (a less than timely but hopefully useful one). Re: Searching for CIs with specific related records
Rick, Never satisfied Always something else you want. (which by the way is a good thing because it means you are looking for more things to be able to do more things) Not directly. There is an API call you can use to get the data. So, if you had the criteria and could pass it to something that could make the call, then return the data. But, I don't believe there is a way to just get the data from the CMDB result screen since that is not done in an AR System table. Re: ARAPI.NET
From what I recall, not all the native DLLs needed by the .NET API were included with the .NET API. It seems I had to get the native DLLs, either from a client installation or off the server machine and add them to the directory as well. Or, if you already have the client or server installed on that machine, add the installation path of the native DLLs to the system path. One DLL in particular to check for is cmdbapi21.dll. I seem to recall having to copy that from a server or something. Re: ARAPI.NET
It has been a while for me to look into AR world, but, here goes... All the steps you followed seem to be complete, but definitely some thing is wrong here. Minor issue but should not have caused this problem - arnettoc.dll need not be added as reference (as it is just an unmanaged DLL dependency for .NET API). Any way I would suggest you to try the following: - Does the FieldLabelChanger.exe sample (included in your arapi.netdirectory) run alright, if you simply double-clicked on it in Windows explorer, or, when run from the command prompt? It should bring up a login screen and once you login, it needs to bring up the form list. - How about your VB application when run from the arapi.net directory? I mean either you copy the .exe there, or, from command prompt change to the arapi.net dir and from there run your application with your app's full path. - I am guessing both these might fail in your case. If so, you might want to run depends.exe (google around if you do not have it) and look up dependencies for arnettoc.dll. My guess is that it will show a missing DLL. If so, the fix is easy. Get the missing DLL from a different arapi.net or User/Admin Tool install directories or Server's api directory. - If this is not the case, I would suggest you to get the arapi.net 7.5 version and see if that behaves any better. - Other things to look for - your OS is 32 bit only right? Also the .NET framework version? Re: Time out Error in Externla Db Access
Have you done your normal SQL tuning? IE does your sql involve indexed fields? Are you linking oracle to oracle, mssql to oracle (it was not clear in your description)? On Aug 27, 7:23 am, NNMN naveen...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Folks! Any suggestions and solutions are appreciated Thanks in advance :) - With Warm Regards, Naveen -- View this message in context:http://old.nabble.com/Time-out-Error-in-Externla-Db-Access-tp29552047... De : Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] De la part de Easter, David Envoyé : jeudi 26 août 2010 21:14 À : arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Objet : AR System 7.6.03 documentation now available - GA soon ** Hi All, I'm pleased to announce that AR System 7.6.03 was Released to Manufacturing (RTM) on August 20, 2010 and thus will GA very soon. A customer's chosen method of distribution (web vs. DVD, legacy vs. Suite) will have an effect on when the GA product is available, so different customers may gain access to it at different times. However, I expect at this time that all distribution methods will be fulfilled by September 10th 2010. The documentation for 7.6.03, though, has already been posted to Support Central, so I wanted to let folks know that they can see the official documentation of what is new in 7.6.03 today, even before the GA code may become available. The What's New document can be found here: What's New: BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.6.03 PDFhttp://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/80/99/168099/168099.pdf The other documentation guides have also been posted, so you can review it all if you so desire. The general documentation page can be found here: http://webapps.bmc.com/support/faces/prodversion.jsp?prodverseqid=180461 While I will do what I can to answer general questions on the ARSList about AR System 7.6.03, please remember that my participation in this forum is voluntary and in addition to my other duties at BMC. Please proper channels (e.g. Support, your BMC sales representative or partner, etc.) where appropriate for issues that require an official response. Thanks, enjoy and see you at WWRUG10 to talk in person about this exciting new release of AR System. -David J. Easter Sr. Product Manager, Enterprise Service Management BMC Software, Inc.
