Re: Integrating with Windows Active Directory
I assume you are referring to integrations for the purpose of authentication. Active Directory uses LDAP for it's back end store. Some extensions that Active Directory provides include NTLM and Kerberos, which are seperate authentication mechanisms. These extensions still rely on the back end store, which is LDAP. Using NTLM and Kerberos are possible through the mid-tier through some customization. To my knowledge NTLM and Kerberos authentication are not feasible with the native client, ARUser, but I have not spent much time digging into this aspect of authentication. You can look to author an AREA plugin that uses either Kerberos or NTLM, but the client still has to pass the necessary information to the plugin to complete the authentication handshake. 2011/1/7 Gard, Richard J rjg...@statestreet.com ** Has anyone integrated directly with Windows AD as opposed to LDAP? Re: Integrating with Windows Active Directory
Yes, the bmc plugin will talk to the AD and use the ARSystem username and password. You can have it use multiple domains but obviously you need to be able to talk to the domain controllers. If you read about areahub configurations with arealdap, then you configure each domain, it will cascade through them. Re: Computed Group
From the documentation: Computed groups—Explicit groups that you create and to which users are assigned based on the memberships of explicit groups included in an expression. For example, you can create a computed group definition such as (A AND B) OR C AND NOT D. This computed group includes the list of users who are members of both groups A and B, or members of group C, but not members of group D. Computed groups make groups easier to manage. You can manage your users in a limited number of regular groups, and use computed groups based on these regular groups for more complex access control without the need to make changes in multiple groups. I use computed groups in conjunction with roles for an application that requires multiple groups for security. The main role is mapped to a computed group. This main role is given access to the application. I then create all the security groups I need. The computed group contains all of these security groups. The security groups are mapped to roles to be used in the application. When a user needs to be given access to the app with certain security, I only need to add them to one group. They are automatically added to the computed group and given access to the app and have the security of the group they were added to. You only need to use roles and map them to groups when you are working with applications. I hope that makes sense. Recaluating SLM:Measurements
All I need to update a number of records in the SLM:Measurement form. The reason for this is I created some new SLA and wanted to run them against incidents that have already been closed. The SLA's have been created for these incident records but unfortunately it used the current time for the start and stop times instead of the fields I wanted. I have found that updating the overallstart and overallstop fields semi updates the records but but doesn't recalculate fields like the SVTDueDate and others. So is their a procedure or some other method I should be using for this or should I just write a filter to update all the fields that have incorrect data in them ? Floating License Release Timeout sometimes not released via midtier-- related to QUEUE: List?
This is a strange problem that may have started happening after upgrading to AR System 7.5 Patch 7, or after an upgrade of our virtual hardware during the holiday break. Or there is a slight chance this has been happening for a while and we just didn't notice-- but I think we would have had more license shortages if that was the case. The one-hour Session timeout seems to be effective still. Can anyone help me interpret this ARUser Log file? I'm not sure why there are so many logins/logouts (more than one for each *actual* instance of a login/logout). That may be normal, but we're definitely having a problem with licenses not being released, confirmed via the License Review form from Adminstration Console. *login* Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2290LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2450LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2450 FLOAT GRANT WRITEbrientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2600LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2760LOGOUT brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:25:24.2920LOGIN brientest *close browser* Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.0920LOGOUT brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.0920LOGOUT brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.0920 FLOAT RELEASEbrientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.0920LOGOUT brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.1080LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:26:45.1080LOGOUT brientest *login again* Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:43:21.8200LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:43:21.8360 FLOAT GRANT WRITEbrientest *close browser* Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:44:30.1330 FLOAT RELEASEbrientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:44:30.1330LOGOUT brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:44:30.1480LOGIN brientest Queue: Fast brientest Fri Jan 07 2011 09:44:30.1480LOGOUT brientest Above this line shows me logging in, and closing the browser. Knowledge Management Install
Hi All TGIF, I am planning on installing Knowledge Management 7.1 and am looking for any helpful hints, or issues that I might encounter. Currently I am running ARS 6.3 patch 20, Oracle 9.2 on SunOS 5.9 and all forms are custom made. Current plan is not to use the web interface, just the RUT. Integration with my custom forms will likely be a challenge but other than that it appears straightforward. Sounds too good to be true, what am I missing? One question that immediately come to mind is the installation directory. The Installation Guide say the default location is /usr/local/RemedyKM7. Is it ok if the AR Server is in another directory (/remedy/ar63/) or do they need to be together? Thanks and have a great weekend. RRRchive for upgrade
I'm doing a three step install/upgrade process: Export/import the DB to new machines Upgrade Remedy on new machines Put New machines into production If I'm going to push data from an old system to a new system using RRRchive to capture the difference between the export and the go-live, I really need the data from all regular forms. I even want to capture all new users and groups, etc. It looks like a multipleforms = * splitsearch = YES transfertype = SYNCTOTARGET Will do this. Has anyone done this successfully? It makes me a little nervous Anne Ramey *** E-mail correspondence to and from this address may be subject to the North Carolina Public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties only by an authorized State Official. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug11 www.wwrug.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are
Re: RRRchive for upgrade
Anne, A number of the forms related to Company, Region, People, Location and others should probably NOT be copied as SYNCTOTARGET . This mode removes 7.6.X-related info which should probably not be molested (would tend to contaminate GUID assocations which gets very messy). Any form containing target records which should be maintained is a strong candidate for export/import rather than rrrchive--we have not yet found another method of maintaining subject GUIDs, and usage trials with re-written GUIDS did not work well at all. Of course, this is an ITSM implementation; a basic ARS with custom workflow may be a different matter. Also--we have utilized rrrchive extensively, but when 'multipleforms' is specified as a parameter, it is with an explicit form list. We have not yet extended trust to these API-calls being able to properly handle the form list with search, grab-next-match, copy, repeat--the single-pass wildcard for multiple forms failed on its first usage in our environment. We found usage much more expedient to generate our current implementation: this instance contains one form-specific configuration file per record-set to be copied, then hand-assembled into batch files which copy records in a sequence which Chris Strauss and I analyzed carefully before automating this process. Another parameter we set is 'onlyfields = COMMON' to avoid trying to write data to nonexistent fields (or attempt to copy data from improper sources). I hope this information helps-YMMV. Don W.
