I use either baretail or Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) for most log files and have created a Notepad++ user defined language descriptor for some Remedy related files a couple of years ago. This colour-codes the files for easy reading. The following files are included: Remedy .Def Remedy .Cfg Remedy .Log Remedy .Arr Remedy .Arq Remedy .Arm Notepad++ can also auto-detect file changes and prompts you to reload the file once you bring it into focus. Thanks Kelly! Yes, this is also possible. Thanks for the reminder! epoch to date\time via sql
All I am in the process of building a view (SQL Server 2008 R2) to use with Dashboards. The view needs to convert enumerated values to text values and epoch time (integer) to Date or Date\Time. The Case function works well and is not an issue. However, the Epoch time conversion has proven elusive. The Dashboards documentation has an Oracle example but not one for SQL Server. Here is what I've tried that has come close. C3 is the create date in my test form. SELECT DATEADD(s,C3,'19700101') FROM ARSystem.dbo.T2677 2011-10-20 11:40:14.000 Not bad except I'm unable to drop the seconds and the AM is missing. SELECT LEFT(DATEADD(s,C3,'19700101'),21) FROM ARSystem.dbo.T2677 Oct 20 2011 11:40AM Close but no cigar. Note that adding LEFT changed the date format. I agree with Brian as well - UltraEdit was my editor of choice for the better part of a decade (if my current employer agreed, I'd still be using it ;^). In addition to the macros, and it's language highlighting (I programmed a Remedy version as well), I have found the column mode incredibly useful (when active, you can cut and paste using columns, instead of the usual word editor use of rows, so if you want to, say, add five characters in the middle of every line, it's a snap). Re: Log File Editor....
I would be glad to provide it, but I haven't actually created a language file. I haven't had a problem with the coloring that is natural, but maybe I will do that soon. Might make it a little easier. If anybody would like to throw in some input, I wouldn't complain. Kelly, I don't let me company control if I use UltraEdit. I buy it myself every once in awhile. I am too oriented to it to just give it up.
