Re: Need Help Stripping Single Quotes out of a Pager Notification

2012-05-23 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

You can easily remove single quotes, but will that be enough to solve your
problem?

LEFT(REPLACE($z1D Translation Text$, ', ), 128)

Products from RRR Scandinavia (Best R.O.I. Award at WWRUG10/11):
* RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing.
* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.
Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se.

What is an example call to your pager script? You mention sticking single
quotes around things, is this the whole message or just part(s) of the
message? When the call is made, is the whole message quoted or ???

Trying to understand exactly what's happening both normally (short
messages) and when it breaks (longer message).

Subject: Need Help Stripping Single Quotes out of a Pager Notification

 **
 Hello All,
 7.6.04

We have found an issue where workflow is truncating message and pager
 notifications are not being sent.

We have been having issues with the paging system getting messages sent to
our paging script properly. The pager message templates are sticking
single quotes around things and then workflow is truncating the message to
128 chars, but it truncates the trailing single quote. So, the linux send
page shell script that we use does not get invoked because linux sees an
unbalanced set of quotes and just waits for input, thus longer pages are
 never sent out.
I see the filter NTE:NPC:Translate_243_PagerMsgAlpha doing a set fields on
'Pager Message Alpha' as LEFT($z1D Translation Text$, 128).

My thought is this... Can I create a filter that does a LEFT or REPLACE...
(I forget the syntax) and stip the single quotes off the message prior to
 sending?

Thoughts Anyone? I haven't done anything like this in awhile and I'm a tad
gun shy when it comes to modifying anything related to SYS:Notifications.

 Thanks in Advance,

 Jase

Configuring Mid-tier for a server group

2012-05-23 Thread Jose Huerta
Hi listers,

I'm with ARS and midtier 7.5.

I have two ARS servers named:

a1.contoso.es
a2.contoso.es

balanced both under address ars.contoso.es

I have mid-tier configured only with server ars.contoso.es.

But sometimes I want to access to one specific server, for instance when
setting ARS Server settings. I currently do it using the user tool. But I
want to allow to select it through mid-tier.

If I allow the three addresses as valid ARS servers at the mid-tier, I see
the entry points lists at Home Page triplicated.

What I want is to always work with ars.contoso.es, but if user changes the
URL, specifying the name of a real server, then connect directly to this
server.

Is this possible? How can you do it with versions 7.6.04 and beyond if no
user tool is provided?

Re: Product Catalog

2012-05-23 Thread Vedak, Rahul
Hi Kathy,

The new PC content is compatible with following CMDB versions - 7.6.03 P1,
7.6.04, 7.6.04 SP1 and 7.6.04 SP2. For each version there is a ‘pre-requisite’
patch that must be applied before installing PC content update.

I’ll try to simplify the process below,

· Scenario 1 - Customers consuming new PC data for the first time,

o Based on current CMDB version, apply patch that is available on EPD
directly under ‘BMC Atrium Product Catalog Data 7.6.xx’ sub-tree

§ Just to be clear, only one patch is applicable for your environment based on
CMDB version (whether 7.6.03 P1 or 7.6.04 or 7.6.04 SP1 or 7.6.04 SP2)

§ E.g. if you are on 7.6.04 SP2, you need only ‘BMC Atrium Core 7.6.04 SP2 -
Product Catalog Data Prerequisite Patch 1’

o Next, apply Product catalog update 2012-Apr-1

§ You don’t need to install 2012-Jan-1 update now since content updates are
cumulative i.e. July release will contain everything in January and April plus
new entries

· Scenario 2 - Customers who have already consumed 2012-Jan-1 PC Update

o Simply apply Product catalog update 2012-April-1

· In future - 7.6.04 SP3 or 8.0 versions, no patch will be necessary
since all the code changes will be included in the respective version. User
need to simply install the latest PC content update.

Detailed instructions on applying the pre-requisite patch are available in the
Technical Bulletin from the EPD area.

Instructions related to Atrium Product Catalog Data Updates are available
online here: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/pcdata/Home

Oh no…. how my mind is organized? I’m in trouble then.
There must be some order to this product catalog install.
I searched the knowledge base and I did not find the steps.
Do I install the Jan update first, or is the April install cumulative of the
Jan update?
I believe Sp1 and Sp2 should those be installed first.

This is my thoughts in terms of the steps to take:
1. Prerequisite Patch 1 Window product catalog data
2. Prerequisite Patch 2 Window product catalog data
3. Prerequisite patch 1, product catalog data
4. Product catalog update Jan 1
5. Product catalog update April 1
Please let me know your thoughts.

Rafael,

I saw a presentation last May at WARUG (www.wrug.orghttp://www.wrug.org) by

Nice graphics with drill down capabilities.

I was hoping that they would present it at WWRUG last year.

o Next, apply Product catalog update 2012-Apr-1
You don’t need to install 2012-Jan-1 update now since content updates are
cumulative i.e. July release will contain everything in January and April plus
new entries

Huh? I’m confused. Why apply the April patch if there’s a July patch available?

Do I install the Jan update first, or is the April install cumulative of the
Jan update?
I believe Sp1 and Sp2 should those be installed first.

This is my thoughts in terms of the steps to take:
1. Prerequisite Patch 1 Window product catalog data
2. Prerequisite Patch 2 Window product catalog data
3. Prerequisite patch 1, product catalog data
4. Product catalog update Jan 1
5. Product catalog update April 1
Please let me know your thoughts.

Using Linux the only difference I have between Dev, Test, and Prod is

All systems have full logging enabled (on the same group settings without

Hi Kathy,

The new PC content is compatible with following CMDB versions - 7.6.03 P1,
7.6.04, 7.6.04 SP1 and 7.6.04 SP2. For each version there is a 'pre-requisite'
patch that must be applied before installing PC content update.

I'll try to simplify the process below,

* Scenario 1 - Customers consuming new PC data for the first time,

o Based on current CMDB version, apply patch that is available on EPD
directly under 'BMC Atrium Product Catalog Data 7.6.xx' sub-tree

* Just to be clear, only one patch is applicable for your environment based on
CMDB version (whether 7.6.03 P1 or 7.6.04 or 7.6.04 SP1 or 7.6.04 SP2)

*  E.g. if you are on 7.6.04 SP2, you need only 'BMC Atrium Core 7.6.04 SP2 -
Product Catalog Data Prerequisite Patch 1'

o Next, apply Product catalog update 2012-Apr-1

* You don't need to install 2012-Jan-1 update now since content updates are
cumulative i.e. July release will contain everything in January and April plus
new entries

* Scenario 2 - Customers who have already consumed 2012-Jan-1 PC Update

o Simply apply Product catalog update 2012-April-1

* In future - 7.6.04 SP3 or 8.0 versions, no patch will be necessary
since all the code changes will be included in the respective version. User
need to simply install the latest PC content update.

Detailed instructions on applying the pre-requisite patch are available in the
Technical Bulletin from the EPD area.

Instructions related to Atrium Product Catalog Data Updates are available
online here: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/pcdata/Home

Do I install the Jan update first, or is the April install cumulative of the

I believe Sp1 and Sp2 should those be installed first.

This is my thoughts in terms of the steps to take:
1. Prerequisite Patch 1 Window product catalog data

Hello All,
7.6.04

We have found an issue where workflow is truncating message and pager
notifications are not being sent.

We have been having issues with the paging system getting messages sent to our
paging script properly. The pager message templates are sticking single quotes
around things and then workflow is truncating the message to 128 chars, but it
truncates the trailing single quote. So, the linux send page shell script that
we use does not get invoked because linux sees an unbalanced set of quotes and
just waits for input, thus longer pages are never sent out.
I see the filter NTE:NPC:Translate_243_PagerMsgAlpha doing a set fields on
'Pager Message Alpha' as LEFT($z1D Translation Text$, 128).

My thought is this... Can I create a filter that does a LEFT or REPLACE... (I
forget the syntax) and stip the single quotes off the message prior to sending?

Thoughts Anyone? I haven't done anything like this in awhile and I'm a tad gun
shy when it comes to modifying anything related to SYS:Notifications.

Thanks in Advance,

Jase

Re: Lead AR System Product Manager - India (Pune)

2012-05-23 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza
I have lived in Bombay (now Mumbai to many) most of my youth, and yes it does
tend to get very hot there. But its an almost tolerable hot, where you can
still do things outdoors. Its never too hot that you just can’t be outdoors
unless you are the type that cannot handle more than 86 F (which is more or
less 30 C).. I recall my days in the youth where I used to play cricket,
football (soccer here) or field hockey even in the hottest known days of
summer.. The hottest days used to get up to 95 F (about 35 C) that lasted about
a couple of weeks before the Monsoons kicks in..

Thankfully just when the summer peaks in the fag end of May, beginning of June,
that’s when the Monsoon season kicks in, drastically bringing down the
temperatures.. If it wasn’t for the summer, then it would be a country where
you would easily have 100+ F but it never ever gets that hot there.

Also Pune has a lot of ‘hill stations’ surrounding it, which you can go for a
weekend getaway. These being on higher altitudes tend to be a lot more cooler
than the city itself. Lonavala which is close to Pune is absolutely gorgeous..
I had been there a few times, once on a high school retreat for the catholic
students, and on most other occasions on college hikes where we climbed short
mountains – I enjoyed all my trips there..

And then theres Goa for those who want to go on a longer weekend.. Goa is
slightly further down south but has got the best beaches I have ever been to as
compared to any other beaches in the world.. All the beach landscape there is
natural with little or none artificial touch added.. That’s the place I am a
native of.. It has a huge Portuguese influence so there is lots to see in terms
of history other than beaches.. If you are a Catholic, you may even want to
visit the St. Francis Xavier’s church in Goa wherein lies the remains of the
saint.. The body is not embalmed and is considered to have miraculously not
decomposed.. I recall visiting this church when I was about 8 and they held a
public exposition where they lowered the body for public viewing from the
golden casket in which it lays high on an alter...

Dolphins are often spotted on some of the beaches near Miramar, Goa..

Do I start / stop the services in the configuration tool ? or by selecting

I looked in the Mid Tier guide and it was showing me how to manually stop

Jase,

Have you tried putting the whole command in a Display Only field, and then use
the set field process action to run it?

That way if the process returns a error code, you would even be able to track

Subject: Need Help Stripping Single Quotes out of a Pager Notification

**
Hello All,
7.6.04

We have found an issue where workflow is truncating message and pager
notifications are not being sent.

Jase

Web-API Certification Error

However the cert is a self-signed cert so I receive an error on the

Re: Configuring Mid-tier for a server group

2012-05-23 Thread Lyle Taylor
With our set up, we can do that in a slightly round-about way. We’ve got 2
mid-tier servers and 2 AR servers. They both behind a load balancer.

midtier.foo.bar (lb)
midtier1.foo.bar
midtier2.foo.bar

ars.foo.bar (lb)
ars1.foo.bar (first server in group)
ars2.foo.bar (second server in group)

We have the load balancer for ars.foo.bar configured so that traffic from
midter1 prefers to go to ars1, and traffic from midtier2 prefers to go to ars2.
I can get to whichever backend server I want by hitting the appropriate
midtier server directly. When I don’t care which backend server I get (most of
the time), I go to the midtier.foo.bar alias and let the load balancer decide.
Note that the ars.foo.bar load balancer is configured to fail over to the
active server in the case that one of the backend servers is down. So, it
prefers a specific server based on the mid-tier server it’s coming from when
everything is operating normally, but will failover as appropriate when
necessary.

Does that make sense? Probably not what you’re looking for, but it’s an option.

** Hi listers,

I'm with ARS and midtier 7.5.

I have two ARS servers named:

a1.contoso.eshttp://a1.contoso.es
a2.contoso.eshttp://a2.contoso.es

balanced both under address ars.contoso.eshttp://ars.contoso.es

I have mid-tier configured only with server
ars.contoso.eshttp://ars.contoso.es.

But sometimes I want to access to one specific server, for instance when
setting ARS Server settings. I currently do it using the user tool. But I want
to allow to select it through mid-tier.

If I allow the three addresses as valid ARS servers at the mid-tier, I see the
entry points lists at Home Page triplicated.

What I want is to always work with ars.contoso.eshttp://ars.contoso.es, but
if user changes the URL, specifying the name of a real server, then connect
directly to this server.

Is this possible? How can you do it with versions 7.6.04 and beyond if no user
tool is provided?

Using ITSM Support Groups with AR System Roles

2012-05-23 Thread Mark Lyndle Johnson
My organization has been running Remedy AR Server for a very long time
solely using custom in-house built forms and applications. We're
transitioning to ITSM for our main ticketing forms and keeping some of
our self-built custom forms. I set up a 7.6.04 SP 2 ITSM server and
have migrated our custom applications over (these were mostly built in
a AR System 7.1 environment), and I'm having trouble using the ITSM
Support Groups to grant rights to our custom apps.

In the ITSM People form, if I make a user a member of a Support Group,
then if I open that same user's entry in the AR System User form, I
see that they have a number listed in their Group List field. If I
then go to the AR System Group form and search for a group with a
Group Name matching that number, I come across an entry where the Long
Group Name field states that it is for the Support Group I just made
the user a member of. Then I go to the AR System Roles form, and I
see that the Test and Production drop down menus that list AR System
groups also contain all of these Group form group name numbers that
related to all of our ITSM Support Groups.

The problem is that if I select one of these number groups, none of
the users in the corresponding ITSM Support Groups are picking up the
rights that that role is supposed to grant to them. I double checked
that the AR System Application that the role pertains to is in either
a Testing or Production state. I dont' understand how to use these
numbered groups to allow us to grant Role permissions to ITSM Support
Group members. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Mark

Monsoons are actually the best times to visit these places if you are going
just to take in the scenery. These places look so good in the rains.. When in
college we used to hike during the Monsoons as the rains would keep us going
longer distances and climb higher hills without really tiring out that much.. I
remember one of the highest peaks I had climbed there was at a place called
Karjat – again outside Bombay. I did that again during the beginning of
monsoons.. And when on top at one point it got clear and we could actually see
the bottom from the peak, and saw trains that ran down that looked like little
pieces of string... we were about 4600 ft high according to a G-Shock watch
that had a altimeter that a friend of mine owned..

problem comes form midtier 2 or ARS 2.

Re: Using ITSM Support Groups with AR System Roles

2012-05-23 Thread Nancy Tietz
Hi -
This is my take on it.
With ITSM, the AR User form and AR Group form are not generally needed.
They don't have enough information.
The People form on ITSM (Administrator Console Application Administration
Console People-View) is the one that has people associated with the
Support Group Names and the Functional Roles which are based on the Support
Group.
It isn't necessary very often to have to look at the actual number of the
support group. Just the name.

I also think it is confusing that you have to do 'Permissions' that say
Knowledge Admin etc, and then do 'Support Groups' and also worry about the
'Functional support Groups. It is a lot to grapple with all at once.

Best wishes!

Subject: Using ITSM Support Groups with AR System Roles

My organization has been running Remedy AR Server for a very long time
solely using custom in-house built forms and applications. We're
transitioning to ITSM for our main ticketing forms and keeping some of our
self-built custom forms. I set up a 7.6.04 SP 2 ITSM server and have
migrated our custom applications over (these were mostly built in a AR
System 7.1 environment), and I'm having trouble using the ITSM Support
Groups to grant rights to our custom apps.

In the ITSM People form, if I make a user a member of a Support Group, then
if I open that same user's entry in the AR System User form, I see that they
have a number listed in their Group List field. If I then go to the AR
System Group form and search for a group with a Group Name matching that
number, I come across an entry where the Long Group Name field states that
it is for the Support Group I just made the user a member of. Then I go to
the AR System Roles form, and I see that the Test and Production drop down
menus that list AR System groups also contain all of these Group form group
name numbers that related to all of our ITSM Support Groups.

The problem is that if I select one of these number groups, none of the
users in the corresponding ITSM Support Groups are picking up the rights
that that role is supposed to grant to them. I double checked that the AR
System Application that the role pertains to is in either a Testing or
Production state. I dont' understand how to use these numbered groups to
allow us to grant Role permissions to ITSM Support Group members. Does
anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Mark

Or, depending on which database (Oracle, DB2, MS Sql Server...) the

There is also a quick way to update fields via the BMC Remedy Client tool,

OT: Using ITSM Workflow to Manage Custom Apps (was Using ITSM Support Groups with AR System Roles)

2012-05-23 Thread Jason Miller
Mark mentions adding existing custom applications to new ITSM environment.
We will be in the same situation as we continue to replace our older
system in phases. Some of our apps do not have an ITSM equivalent and will
still be needed.

There was some discussion earlier in May around People Permission Group
records and syncing to the Group List on User records. I am thinking I
would like to tap into this for our custom apps. We have always had a bit
of challenge managing our custom app/form's specific permissions. Part of
it is maintenance because we can't give it to other teams to manage because
some groups are a bit cryptic and also our Service Desk has no visibility
into the permissions a user has.

I think it would be great to use the People record as a central place to
update Permission Groups as well as Support Group memberships for our
custom applications.

Has anybody added their custom/3rd part apps to the ITSM permission/group
management model?

Remedy to IBM Cast Iron

2012-05-23 Thread Brittain, Mark
Hi All,

What I need to do: When a record in Remedy is updated I need to send the update
to Cast Iron. Cast Iron then populates the information into an XML document and
then sends it to a distant (non-Remedy_ server).

One approach would be to use a Notify Filter to send an email to a mailbox,
then have Cast Iron read the mail and do the rest. However that approach is not
being accepted.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and come up with a solution?

ARS 6.3 patch 20
SunOS 5.9
Oracle 9.2

Thanks

Can you make a web service call to Cast Iron? If so, just create a

Have you tried putting the whole command in a Display Only field, and then
use the set field process action to run it?

That way if the process returns a error code, you would even be able to
track success or failure of the process action..

 Hello All,

 Jase

Re: Remedy to IBM Cast Iron

2012-05-23 Thread Goodall, Andrew C
Mark,

As it states the connection was refused, usually because the ARS Server
cannot communicate with the specified WSDL.

Which could be for many reasons:

-server not up

-target web service not up

-target port not open

-firewall block

-incorrect authentication, if not anonymous

Can you pull up the WSDL in a browser and display with no problem?

Try using SoapUI to verify target web service is functioning as designed
external to Remedy first.

Re: Differences of configuration between development and production servers

2012-05-23 Thread Jason Miller
I like to have Object Modification Log enabled on production as well. It
helps to research unauthorized changes. I also keep the Save Definition
Files turned on in production in case we need
to backout that unauthorized changes.

I usually create a group for client side logging for all environments.
Then I just put people in that group as needed.

 I'm talking about something like:

 On DEV:
  - Allow unqualified searches
  - Development Cache Mode
  - Record Object Relationships
  - Client-side logging group to a wide-spread group
  - Object Modification log enabled
  - Save definition files
  - Same password for all admin accounts (Demo, AppAdmin, Mid-tier
 password, etc.)

 On PROD:
  - Buffer logging lines

Do you have any recommendation about it?

Re: Lead AR System Product Manager - India (Pune)

2012-05-23 Thread Rajesh Nair
Just visited mahableshwar a couple of week back with ma wife and kid, since
it high season you find this place a bit costly, not that costly to burn
your pocket. Climate was pleasant somewhat around 20-25 at noon and 10-15
in night which as compared to the city which is around 35-38 during high
noon, and since the mansoon is fast approaching it even hotter because of
humidity and you can even see some dark clouds hovering your head in the
morning.\

I like the mansoon as lot as the place i stay( 60 KM from Mumbai) is very
close to nature (just like coutry side) and me along with my freind often
go for drive to the river side where we can have blast along with a couple
pegs and a fresh catch from the river.

Even pune is hot in summer, coldder in winter(temp is much less than
mumbai, goes upto 6 degrees)
Best thing i can say about pune is the eatery, awesome food and even
cheaper and the bad thing is the autodriver's they take you for a drive if
you are new to the place. It ways good to have someone with you if he is
local person

I have lived in Bombay (now Mumbai to many) most of my youth, and yes
it does tend to get very hot there. But its an almost tolerable hot, where
you can still do things outdoors. Its never too hot that you just can’t be
outdoors unless you are the type that cannot handle more than 86 F (which
is more or less 30 C).. I recall my days in the youth where I used to play
cricket, football (soccer here) or field hockey even in the hottest known
days of summer.. The hottest days used to get up to 95 F (about 35 C) that
lasted about a couple of weeks before the Monsoons kicks in..

Thankfully just when the summer peaks in the fag end of May, beginning of
June, that’s when the Monsoon season kicks in, drastically bringing down
the temperatures.. If it wasn’t for the summer, then it would be a country
where you would easily have 100+ F but it never ever gets that hot there.

Also Pune has a lot of ‘hill stations’ surrounding it, which you can go
for a weekend getaway. These being on higher altitudes tend to be a lot
more cooler than the city itself. Lonavala which is close to Pune is
absolutely gorgeous.. I had been there a few times, once on a high school
retreat for the catholic students, and on most other occasions on college
hikes where we climbed short mountains – I enjoyed all my trips there..

And then theres Goa for those who want to go on a longer weekend.. Goa is
slightly further down south but has got the best beaches I have ever been
to as compared to any other beaches in the world.. All the beach landscape
there is natural with little or none artificial touch added.. That’s the
place I am a native of.. It has a huge Portuguese influence so there is
lots to see in terms of history other than beaches.. If you are a Catholic,
you may even want to visit the St. Francis Xavier’s church in Goa wherein
lies the remains of the saint.. The body is not embalmed and is considered
to have miraculously not decomposed.. I recall visiting this church when I
was about 8 and they held a public exposition where they lowered the body
for public viewing from the golden casket in which it lays high on an
 alter...

Dolphins are often spotted on some of the beaches near Miramar, Goa..
