Re: ITSM Assignee - Timetable

2012-07-17 Thread Rajendra Kapale
Below idea can be automated if you use assignment engine to do the
assignments based on a rule.

1) Form A which has information of all the consultant along with the shift
timing.
2) an escalation written on this form which will set the availabity of the
consutlant to not available/on vacation on the people form
3) In your assignment rule add a qualification to select only records which
has the availability not set to 'not available/on vacation'

This way only assignee which are available during a timeframe will get the
tickets assigned.

Re: Weird Normalization behaviour

2012-07-17 Thread Anuj DUA
Hi,

If by class mapping, your reference is to 'Attribute list' column in class
configuration tab, then no such mapping is done by me.
At configuration level, I have not changed anything. Everything is default.

Just to clarify again, the entries created manually and via AIE tool are
exactly same, with normalization status set to default. On running the
normalization, it normalizes the entry created manually but does not normalizes
the AIE entry.

Hi,

Cause for this issue is the 'Normalization Status' Field. This is a selection
field with below values.
Selection Values

ID

Other

10

Not Normalized

20

Not Applicable For Normalization

30

Normalization Failed

40

Normalized but Not Approved

50

Normalized and Approved

60

Modified After Last Normalization

70

This field is referred / updated after and before the normalization for each
record. By default this field is not on the default view.
If value of this field is 'Not Normalized' for a record, then only this record
is normalized. When we update or created an entry, its values is automatically
set to 'Not Normalized'.

Please let us know if you are trying to map this field in 'Class Mapping' with
value other than 'Not Normalized'.

The solution is either you should not map this attribute / field, or this field
must be mapped with 'Not Normalized' value in order to normalize the record.

Hello All,

I have an issue while normalizing entries in product CI.

When I create entry through AIE tool, it does not normalize
When the same entries are created manually, they get normalize.

Here, I have checked all configurations -

1)Normalization configuration

2)NE:ProductAlias form

3)Product catalog entry

The entries created manually and via AIE are same. Kindly suggest what could be
the reason ?

fts pluginsvr_config.xml question...

2012-07-17 Thread Rick Phillips

Hi,

In the fts pluginsvr_config.xml file, what is the section
for?

One of the things I'm trying to nail down is the server group
implementation for fts. The doc that I have (from BMC) states that all
fts plugins should reside on the primary server, but the collection
directories should stay on each server group member. So we:

Comment out the secondary member's fts plugin server's line from the
armonitor
In each secondary member's ar.cfg, we point to the respective fts plugin
on the primary server
Update the primary server's armonitor to include a line to start each
secondary server's fts plugin server
When the indexing begins, each fts plugin server writes to the
collection dir on the corresponding member's collection dir (or so BMC
has advised me).

Where is the parameter that tells each fts plugin server to write to the
respective member's collection dir? The only thing that looks possible
is the section of the fts pluginsvr_config.xml.
Also, does anyone know if, during the indexing process, the collection
dirs are written to concurrently? My indexing process has been running
for a day, ft_pending is at 13, and primary collection dir is being
written to, and growing 21 GB, but nada on any collection dirs on
secondary member's collection dirs.

Thanks,

Rick

Sorry, I did not intend to be harsh, and I apologize if I came off that way.
It can be difficult to avoid sounding harsh in writing since none of us out
there can hear each other's vocal inflections or tone of voice. I was trying
to throw in a bit of humor - which has never been my strongest suit. :\ You
can't begin to appreciate what I had to go through in my life to get to the
point of even being willing to *try* to inject some humor despite that being
one of my weak areas. But that's okay, because that's not what this list is
for.

I was simply trying to make the point that acronyms can mean different things
to different people and a question full of them won't get much of a response
unless the person asking makes it clear what he/she means. Better?

Re: Running ARS on laptop - options

2012-07-17 Thread Goodall, Andrew C
It amazes me this is such an issue in today's development world - ARS seriously
needs to deflate (de-bloat) and streamline so can develop separately from a
distributed server.

You can do this in Visual Studio and Eclipse, you develop your code, you
preview, run, debug and tweak as needed; then you publish to server when
desired.

Why can't the same approach be taken with ARS development. I have found it such
a pain in the rear to always have to wait on the server to respond and cache my
changes (as we know dev cache mode is problematic), let alone now flush midtier
(or delete working dir and recycle tomcat), etc

Development in ARS is becoming such hard work, and it should not be that way -
not if you want the ARS environment to thrive as an easy development platform.
I've lost count the number of times I've thought - "I'd be done by now if I was
developing this in .NET"

Hi Tauf,

There have already been a lot of good advice on this thread. I'll just add my 2
cents' worth

After having lots of issues with previous laptops underperforming badly, I'm
currently using an old Dell Precision M6400 with 16GB RAM, two 7200RPM internal
HDD's in RAID-0 (for performance) and in spite of the Dual Core 2.66Ghz CPU, I
am still getting very good performance under Win7 64-bit and VMWare Player
(free) when running ITSM 7.6.4 in a VM with 8.5GB RAM allocated to the VM.
BMC uses VMWare themselves, so chances are good that Remedy should be more
stable under VMWare if not running directly on the host, even though the likes
of VBox also performs well.

Fisrt, ask yourself these questions before buying the laptop:
A) For how many future versions of ITSM should this laptop be good enough?
B) Do you like it when a laptop makes you wait most of the time?
C) Are you going to use this laptop to do development or demo's?
Decide on that and then plan on how much you want to spend.

There are 3 things you should spend as much as possible $$$ on for a laptop
running ITSM, in this order:
1) Fastest possible performing Disk Drive (go dual internal 7200+RPM HDD's in
RAID config OR preferably add a decent SDD to the mix)
2) Stupidly excessive amounts of RAM (go with a machine that can take 16GB RAM
or more and put at least 8GB in it from the start)
3) The best CPU you can afford.
The rest of the config on the laptop depends on personal choice.
Rest assured that it is almost impossible to spend too much on any of these 3
items if you want a laptop that performs well with ITSM
Buy anything less, and you'll probably be shopping for a new laptop as soon as
the next major version of ITSM comes out

If you can't get a good HDD, then at least get 16GB RAM or more so you can use
some of that RAM to create a RAMDrive and put your ARS DB on the RAMDrive when
you need the extra performance.
Running ITSM straight on the host OS gives best performance, but my experience
has been that since using VM's for development, demo's etc., I have had only
one Blue-Screen-Of-Death episode, and only reloaded the OS once (by choice),
since buying this laptop in 2009. (Some of my other colleagues with different
strategies are rebuilding their laptops at least once or twice a year after
having lots of BSOD's). I believe that this is due to the fact that the host OS
of my laptop has the minimum stuff loaded on it (less that can go wrong with
it) and new installs of other software do not affect the host OS when loading
them in a VM.

Hope this helps...

Theo

I received update from my colleauge and R&D that all processes can be run from
the Sample Console, so they will always be visible there.

This is response to your question

The processes are not available anywhere else except sample and per my
understanding you would like to have those processes in different structure
other than Sample

I have validated with R&D that all processes by default shown in Sample and I
am checking, is there a way we can redirect that to some other structure or is
it the product limitation to have it in sample. I am also checking whether this
could be an enhancment or product defect if the current product not allowing
the behavior to redirect to different structure other than sample.

--> My Answer

So you bought the Abydos product and company just to do a sample..

You cannot do SRM, or Incident .. just samples..

PLEASE contact your supervisor.. I cannot talk to you anymore.. thanks..

Re: Weird Normalization behaviour

2012-07-17 Thread ITSM.Support
Hi,

Cause for this issue is the 'Normalization Status' Field. This is a
selection field with below values.

Selection Values

ID

Other

10

Not Normalized

20

Not Applicable For Normalization

30

Normalization Failed

40

Normalized but Not Approved

50

Normalized and Approved

60

Modified After Last Normalization

70

This field is referred / updated after and before the normalization for each
record. By default this field is not on the default view.
If value of this field is 'Not Normalized' for a record, then only this
record is normalized. When we update or created an entry, its values is
automatically set to 'Not Normalized'.

Please let us know if you are trying to map this field in 'Class Mapping'
with value other than 'Not Normalized'.

The solution is either you should not map this attribute / field, or this
field must be mapped with 'Not Normalized' value in order to normalize the
record.

Hello All,

I have an issue while normalizing entries in product CI.

When I create entry through AIE tool, it does not normalize

When the same entries are created manually, they get normalize.

Here, I have checked all configurations -

1)Normalization configuration

2)NE:ProductAlias form

3)Product catalog entry

The entries created manually and via AIE are same. Kindly suggest what could
be the reason ?

You have to use historical data to show a time series. Hivhly annoying.
You can manually create the historical data by pushing your data into the

Re: catch the email before it is deleted

2012-07-17 Thread Remedy Maniac

hi,

many thanks for your input.
Here is what I implemented:
- on an incoming email, I copy the mail to a temp area before giving it
to Remedy
- on error, the Remedy deletes the email and records a log with the
Message-ID
- upon that error, I built a workflow to read that Message-ID, to grep
it onto my temp area and to catch the email and send a notification to
the user with infos about the error so the user may try again

This has been done on an emergency.

Next step will find out how to cancel the rollback and the deletion of
the email

The quick fix was to:

1. Create a filter that runs a notify command,

2. Modify the filters that ran on submit, and

3. Enable the Error Handler to point to that filter.

The filter was set to note the error code, description, mailbox name,
time of submit, from, to, and subject line of the email. This has been
enough to contact the sender and request email be resubmitted or to
forward to the service desk to have them contact the sender by
alternate means.

For more intelligent handling, you can create a series of filters that
read the error code thrown and act accordingly, if you can determine
the problem and fix it, you can even remove the error flag and
continue the submission process.

For more, see “Error handling filters” in your Workflow guide. (I
don’t have 7.5 guides or I’d note the pages. :^)

Had a same requirement for me, long back but to some other reason it did not
kick off, but had a thought of how to do it, but this was going to be a manual
activty for the shift leads/manager

1) Form A which has information of all the consultant along with the shift
timing.
2) an escalation written on this form which will set the availabity of the
consutlant to not available/on vacation on the people form
3) once the status is set as available the consultant is visible in the drop
down.

Had another idea,
instead of doing this in manual way, as soon as the consultant logs in the
status value in the people form is set to available and this consutlant is see
the drop down of the Group.

one more a stupid idea
pop up a window which say this consutlant is not working in this shift

all this point might sound novice though :)

You could have different groups that reference each shift.

Re: ITSM Assignee - Timetable

2012-07-17 Thread Rajesh Nair
Had a same requirement for me, long back but to some other reason it did
not kick off, but had a thought of how to do it,
but this was going to be a manual activty for the shift leads/manager

1) Form A which has information of all the consultant along with the shift
timing.
2) an escalation written on this form which will set the availabity of the
consutlant to not available/on vacation on the people form
3) once the status is set as available the consultant is visible in the
drop down.

Had another idea,
instead of doing this in manual way, as soon as the consultant logs in the
status value in the people form is set to available and this consutlant is
see the drop down of the Group.

one more a stupid idea
pop up a window which say this consutlant is not working in this shift

all this point might sound novice though :)

No...I'm looking to say

UserA is available Mon-Fri 8A-8P
UserB is available Mon-Fri 8P-8A

And during those timeframes, have User A in the assignee listand not when
not during those timeframes...

Oklooking for a feature that doesn't seem to exist, but seems reasonable
that I'm just missing it

We have found where you can schedule a group's availability, but not able to
find a PERSON's availability. Need to basically be able to say this person is
available to receive tickets from this time to that time on these dayswhere
can I find that?

Re: Running ARS on laptop - options

2012-07-17 Thread Schon, Stuart
Both VMWare Fusion and Parallels on the MAC are excellent and easy to
use - both run Win7 without any issues. The biggest gotcha is RAM you
need a MAC with at least 4GB and preferable 8GB

** Rod,
I like that idea. I guess if needed, I can then use the VM Workstation
to run Analytics or another instance of mid-tier which is less resource
intensive than AR.

** Hi Tauf,

I have found that running Remedy without a virtual machine is actually a
lot lighter resource wise and more flexible. You don't need the overhead
of running 2 operating systems at once. I use the free SQL Server 2008
personal edition. On top of that I install the 7.6.4 Suite stack
install. That install only takes around 40 minutes or so. I'm running
Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium with 8 Gig on an i5-2450M.

You will be surprised how easy this setup is to get going and how well
it performs.

All,

I want to buy a laptop and also use it to host an ITSM platform

1. Mac or PC?
2. Solid state hd or standard?
3. If Mac, how good is parallels to host the environment? What
about VMWARE?
4. If PC,is VMware the preferred platform to host the env on?
5. I'm assuming I have to pay for licenses of SQL server and Win
Server. Is this correct?
6. Is it just cheaper to build a server at home to host this and
just
VPN in using any laptop?

If I'm missing something, let me know. I just want to make an
