Re: Search feature in devloper studio

2013-10-04 Thread Rod Harris
Hi Paul,

The search feature isn't really the best for getting a list of filters that
relate to a form. The best way to do that is with a working list. If you
create a "view by form" working list and select the forms you want, then
use the icon in the top right of that screen to "view by type", that is
probably the closest thing you are looking for. The "view by type" screen
will allow you to sort by all the normal options like "execute on" and
"enabled"

The search is good for finding embedded strings within code. Things like
specific error messages or run process commands.

Show relationships is also good for quickly finding all kinds of workflow
that relate to a specific field or other objects.

Hard coding the group ids is not an option. The group id(s) that we don't want
to see the is in an entry in a form we use for parameters like this.

Short summary - it's all LJ's fault. :-)

First off, I wanted to say how humbled I am to have won the ARSList MVP
award. When I got the call from Dan that I'd been nominated and he asked me
to attend WWRUG13, I saw it as a great chance to see a lot of friends again.
It was a pleasant shock to have been remembered by so many on the list that
the voting ended up the way that it did. I am deeply touched that you felt
that I was able to help those on the list in some small way - but what you
don't realize is that you helped me even more. The ARSList is the most
vibrant, loyal and loving community that I've ever been part of and I
learned so much about how a common vision can inspire such a sense of
camaraderie and friendship. While I may have drifted away from the ARSList
on a daily basis, I'll know that we'll always be together as a family.

That said, here's what LJ did. During the MVP awards, he wanted to show
what the nominee's do in their off hours away from work. So he put up a
slide with the results of Googling the nominee's names. If you Google
"David Easter", you get a British actor and a picture of David Bowie on
Easter in his lightning bolt face paint. His quote was something like "and
it looks like David spends the weekends shirtless wearing makeup".
Afterwards, I made the offhand comment that it'd be amusing if I put on that
face paint during the Thursday Night party - and a plot was formed...

I've changed a bit since that early photo of David Bowie Easter was taken,
so attached is a side by side comparison of the original and what I look
like today.

As a quick update on what I've been doing since May, I've joined a company
that provides cloud infrastructure technology and services around OpenStack
called Mirantis . Given that everything is
moving "into the cloud" these days, and BMC itself has a Cloud LifeCycle
Management solution that was partially built on AR System, I'm sure that
I'll bump into many of you professionally sooner than later.

I'm told that just like Miss America, I will be required to crown next
year's MVP at WWRUG14 (or the equivalent). So it even if we don't meet up
in the cloud, it looks like you're _still_ not rid of me... :-)

For those that I saw at WWRUG13, it was like a family reunion to see you all
again - I really missed you guys. For those here on the list, thank you
again for the recognition of my small contribution to this amazing
community. I wish each and every one of you the best in wherever life takes
you.

Take Care,

Hi Ryan,
I think that this phrase sums up perfectly what multi-tenancy is “Tenancy is based and controlled at the Company level”.

However, I think for my issue I would like multi-tenancy to be defined as “Tenancy is based and controlled at the _Organizational_ level while allowing access to company level data”
Here is what I _think_ the issues would still be trying to setup the system with support users having unrestricted access and the end users having access to specific companies.

1. If I give the support users "Unrestricted Access" then all the support users will see ALL the tickets in the other organization’s area and we only want them to see items in their area

2. End users belong to an overarching company of which all the other (support) organizations are children of that company, so end users will belong to that overarching company vs. a specific “sub company” (organization)
Let me see if I can give a use case based on what I really want to do...
I work at GWU and ALL the users (end users and support users) will need to belong to the company "GWU".
I also have 2 organizations, IT and AT, that want to be able to be completely autonomous from one another but still use the same user base (GWU users). I would like to setup the support user in the IT group to belong to a IT “company/org” and the AT support users belong to a AT “company/org”
So when a user calls IT to report an issue, I would like the IT people to be able to
a) Retrieve the user records from the GWU pool of users (which we can with Support Company Access Config)
b) Have the business rules for IT be used to process the ticket.
c) Not have the AT group be able to see the tickets that belong to IT
Then I would like the same to happen for the AT group when a user calls AT to report an issue.
I think the highest priority is based on Incident and Problem, but this would need to cascade to the other ITSM modules as well
Again, thanks for the input. Hopefully the above clears up a little bit what I am looking for, however I think that might not be something that can be done with just configuration options (but I am hoping to be proven wrong)

Hi John,

If I understand your dilemma correctly then ITSM 8.1 should be able to handle this scenario with the following assumptions:

1. Support people have "Unrestricted Access"
2. End users have "Restricted Access" to the Company (department) to which they belong

In ITSM 8.1 multi-tenancy works as follows:

Ø  Multi-tenancy is a feature in the BMC Remedy Applications that enables you to control which records and specific configuration data are exposed to a user, based on the user’s permissions. Tenancy is based and controlled at the Company level.  Various forms in the BMC Remedy Applications expose one or more Company fields that control the tenancy access for a given record.
Ø  Row-level security typically works as follows:
o   On main user facing transactional forms:
§  Tenancy is based on the  Customer Company and/or Process Company defined on the record (sets field 112)
§  Tenancy is also based on the Support Companies assigned to a record (sets field 60900)
o   Child forms:
§  Child form should inherit their parents tenancy permissions
o   Join forms
§  Tenancy should be inherited from either the primary or secondary form identified within the join criteria especially if one of the forms is a user facing transactional form

Ø  Tenancy is implemented using the Row-level Security feature of AR.  In summary we determine which groups or roles have access to a request through the permissions on the Request ID field (field ID 1).

Re: Analytics 7.6

2013-10-04 Thread Sabyson Fernandes
Hi Frex,

I am assuming you want to refresh your universe in analytics from production
back to your test/development server. If that's not the case, then the below is
some information you may find useful.

The universe on analytics can be refreshed between environments by exporting
from one environment (using a Briar file) and importing it to the other.

There are a few best practices that BMC recommends with regards to the ITSM
universe. The main one is to not make any customizations to the universe they
provided, but to create a linked universe and make all your customizations to
the linked universe. That way your customizations are retained when you do an
upgrade and it is also quicker to export and import the linked universe rather
than the entire universe.

With regards to connections to Remedy, analytics connects directly at the
database level and does not go through the API. You can change the connections
and point it directly to the DB that your Remedy instance is using. Only When
doing the install, it connects to Remedy to import the ANA:Fiscal Calendar
forms and data, but subsequent connections are directly to the database from
what I have seen.

Saby

There is no need for JavaScript or anything outside of the ARS system for this

Hopefully each application that connects to your ARS system uses a separate
user and password. You can simply add a filter to your form that the web
service is on where $USER$ = "Application A login" and the fields are NULL and
return an error

Worst case is you could always copy the method and add the 2 new fields to the
2nd method only (You end up with 1 service that has multiple methods)

Hi Neha,

You can have same web service to be consumed by both application , A & B.

What you can do is - add 2 new optional fields on base form where web service
is defined. When Application B will consume web service , do not pass value for
these fields . And, when Application A will consume web service , make it
mandatory to pass those two fields. You can make those two fields mandatory at
Application end using client side scripting such as JavaScript. Get hold of
application guys to make that happen.

Thanks,
Abhijit H

Hi List,

Please help me with your expertise on below query.

There is one Remedy webservice which is being consumed by two 3rd party
application A and B. For integration with one application A, it is required to
add tWo new fields in Remedy provided webservice.
Other 3rd party application B, have to do nothing with two new fields added in
Remedy provided webservice.
So is it mandatory, that application B has to now consume updated Remedy
webservice or it can continue with consuming old Remedy webservice only?

Thanks in Advance

Frex,
Nevermind. I was thinking about something different... more along the lines
of pointing Analytics to a replicated DB. You have to run the installer in
order to get at those scripts and files. If you have the install logs, you
may be able to go through them and see specifically which objects are being
imported.

Frex,
If you look at the install document for Analytics, I think there is a part if
the installation where it's like a manual option. I will look for you when I
get a chance. In that area, it goes into detail about where the def files, SQL
scripts exist. You shouldn't have to always run the installer.

Re: Java API

2013-10-04 Thread Jonas Stumph Stevnsvig
Hi

firstly, It seems as if you are confusing Java and Javascript - i assume
that you are talking pure Java, and "Java Script" is a "Java
Application" - ie a java .class file run with java.exe

Java is a requirement of the Remedy installation as far as I recall, so
it is present on the server. with regards to the JDK, you have to check
by opening a commandline and typing "javac -version" (no quotes)

Java API

2013-10-04 Thread Neha Khandelwal
Hi List,

Please help me with your expertise on below query.
I am working on ITSM 7.6 version. I have requirement to create a Java script
which should extract HPD:Help Desk form data through Java API.

Now I need to check do I have everything already installed or configured to run
Java script at Remedy side.
As I looked into installation directory of ARSystem I found at following path
.../ARSystem/api, have direcories for
Javaplugins
Javadriver
include
lib

Is that mean Java is already installed Or I need to install it specifically.

Can you please assist?

Hi,

I believe you have one web service for both A and B application. In that
case once you have modified the web service both A and B will consume the
modified one.
If these 2 new fields are not used by B application consider creating a
separate Web Service for B application.

Karthik
