CMDB class for circuits?

2008-07-21 Thread ARS Bob
Any suggestions for a solution for representing data circuits in CMDB that
doesn't involve making whole new classes?

CMDB's BMC_Person class: usage?

2007-07-09 Thread ARS Bob

I've got years and years of ARS experience, but I'm a bit of a CMDB novice.

Can anybody tell me the intended (or non-intended but useful) usage of the
BMC_Person class in CMDB? In an ITSM 7.0 environment where we already are
populating CTM:People, I'm not sure what benefits we get from populating the
Person class.

Thanks!

apache to tomcat connector not working

2007-08-06 Thread ARS Bob
Apache 2.0.59
Tomcat 5.5
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1
ARS 7.0.1

I followed all the instructions on how to set up the JK connector to have
Apache passthrough to Tomcat, but when I try to access mid-tier, I get a 404
and the following is found in the mod_jk.log file:

[Mon Aug 06 14:25:57 2007] [5504:3656] [debug] jk_uri_worker_map.c (589):
Attempting to map URI '/arsys' from 0 maps

Mid-Tier works when I use port 8080, and the connector fails for non-midtier
webpages sitting in the Tomcat root folder as well, so the problem appears
to be connector-specific and independent of Remedy or Mid Tier.

My setup was essentially the same, except the JKMount entries were
surrounded by:

 ServerName localhost

and

Commenting out those three lines appear to have fixed the problem.

Thanks!

how should I set up mid-tier prefetch ?

2007-08-15 Thread ARS Bob
>From what I understand, the permissions of the user specified in the
prefetchConfig.xml file determines which users will actually benefit from
the caching.

If I create a user and give it every permission imaginable and use that as
the prefetch user, will that cover everyone, or does the matching have to be
more precise than that?

improper behavior for query 'DateField' < ($DATE$ + (30 * 86400))

2010-09-24 Thread ARS Bob
ARS Version 7.5 patch 003. SunOS 5.10. Oracle ver 10.2.0.3.0

I've got a form with a date field on it. Note that that's a date
field (which at the database level stores a juilian value, like
"2455463"), and not a date/time field (which stores an epoch value,
like "1285214400")

Now, if I try to do a query like 'DateField' < $DATE$ or 'DateField' <
$TIMESTAMP$, that works fine.

If, however, I try to do a query like 'DateField' < ($DATE$ + (30 *
86400)), which *should* mean return all records where the date in the
field is no later than 30 days from now, I get incorrect results. I
get all records with non-null values, whether or not the date is
before or after 30 days from now.

I tried all 4 sensible variations of the query, employing combinations
using $TIMESTAMP$ or $DATE$ and (30 * 86400) or (30) with the same
results.

If I hardcode the date, i.e. 'DateField' < ("8/1/2011" + (30)), only
then are the results correct.

Looking at the SQL log, it would appear that any attempt to perform a
query using a date calculation involving a keyword is translated into
an SQL statement that uses an epoch value, regardless of the fact that
the field that the comparison is being made against is a julian date,
thus the incorrect results.

This appears to be true with queries in the user tool advanced search
bar as well as in qualifications on filters and escalations.

I need to be able to have an escalation that has a qualification along
the lines of 'DateField' < ($DATE$ + 30).

The obvious solution is to replace the date field with a date/time
field, but for a variety of reasons, I would like that to be my last
resort.

Anybody know how to make the qualification behave properly?

License Pricing

Can anybody tell me what the list prices are for Remedy ARS Server
licenses, ARS Fixed User licences and ARS Floating User licenses?

I can't seem to find that info anywhere on their website, and the phone

telling me.

Fixed licenses - $960 each - plus maintenance cost every yearFloating licenses - $2400 each - plus maintenance cost every yearMaintenance is usually 15% of that list price.Timothy Palmer

Just to followup myself with another question  Let's say we decide to start upgrading User Tools *before* we start the server upgrade process.  Would there be any issues using a 7.x User Tool against a 5.x Server?

Multiple Mid-Tier Servers in a load-balanced environment: licensing?

2006-09-20 Thread ARS Bob

How many Mid-Tier licenses would I need for the setup diagrammed below?  I imagine it would be 6, one for each MT on each ARS.  Would that be 6 times more expensive than a simple "Internet-->MT-->ARS-->DB" setup, or does the one license fee cover it?
