Admin Tool - Developer Studio

2010-10-04 Thread Charles Roth
In order to learn the developer studio would it be possible to use the
developer studio on your development server and export the defs to
production while using the admin tool on production (we are running 7.1
server on both dev/production)?

Would workflow developed on the development server and the production
server export/import correctly between servers using different tools on
each server?

Hi Cary,

It's not just a forum that supports attachments - you can also post
documents in a standalone area. For example:

http://developer.bmc.com/communities/docs/DOC-1907

Maybe if BMC [...] customers to contribute (and search the contents of)

The BMC DN does have a pretty good search capability built in. For
example:

http://developer.bmc.com/communities/search.jspa?communityID=2002resultTypes=BLOG_POSTresultTypes=DOCUMENTresultTypes=MESSAGEresultTypes=BLOGresultTypes=COMMUNITYresultTypes=TASKresultTypes=PROJECTresultTypes=SOCIAL_GROUPresultTypes=COMMENTpeopleEnabled=trueq=advanced+admin+tool

was a search of Advanced Admin Tool and it found Vincent's document page
as the first hit.

You are correct that it's not a replacement (currently) for something like
sourceforge.net, but it would be a place to post numbered releases to
ensure that BMC customers are aware of the hard work put into the project
and benefit from it.

David,

I would have suggested BMC DN if it also had tools to help people develop
Open Source projects. However the last time I looked, BMC DN offered
nothing in the way of a source control system, a project Wiki, mailing
lists for the project or any other set of features that would be helpful to
maintain and/or grow a software project.

However, it has been a while since I last looked at BMC DN. Has any of that
changed? Or is it mostly a forum based web site that supports attachments?

Maybe if BMC could use a product like RKM (Remedy Knowledge
Management) for it's customers to contribute (and search the contents
of) then I think it would be more helpful than the forum based web site. (
Just a thought. )

P.S. I sure hope that BMC does not use a forums centric methodology for
collaboration on code development.

** Dear Katherine,

I would recommend MidTier 7.0 for these reasons,

Admins can use the prefetch utility and save time for loading those forms
on the web for the first time.
Users can run remedy reports on the web.
Users can customise their table field and sort it accordingly.
MdTier 7.0 can now display check boxes as check boxes and not as drop down
list that helps me for my shopping cart applications built on remedy.
It comes with a sample SSO Plugin.
Users can save their searches and run saved searches just like macros on
the user tool.
With Midtier 7 you can also have CSS style sheets for individual fields
and forms.
Hope this helps.
