The only question I have is there a way to capture the date they changed

What..

I totally agree with you. This is LUDACRIS! I will definitely also
keep this is mind with the clients I do support because it is too
frustrating dealing with people who won't have a clue besides the limited
training they do receive and then expect to resolve our issues. This is
just another corporate way to save money by decreasing jobs for people right
here in the good old USA and increase their pockets. Besides the CEO only
make about 1.5 million a year he may need a little more because the market
is bad

Some things suck and only get worse as time goes forward.

Hello community,

I have it on good authority from one of my contacts at BMC that they will be

starting to outsource their support to Pune, India and Dublin, Ireland very
shortly.

Am I the only one who is outraged by this?

Our company already pays an unconscionable amount of money for Remedy
Support. If they start to outsource I can guarantee you that our company
will stop paying for support altogether next year because they will be
diminishing the value of this support drastically but our maintenance fees
will not be discounted.

So THEY will be saving a ton of money by giving us compromised support but
they will not be compensating us in any way (and we just renewed our
maintenance contract before I was told of this!).

In my experience, the second most valuable thing besides the actual AR
System platform from Remedy is their support teams and infrastructure. If
BMC is going to start carving the support infrastructure up and outsourcing
it, then thay are going to lose the second most valuable pool of Remedy
professionals next to the engineers themselves.

What is BMC thinking? The executives are obviously boneheads who have NO
IDEA of the value of the Remedy AR System product line and the Remedy
support infrastructure.

I have emailed Bob Beauchamp but have not had a response from him regarding
this direction.

If we can no longer rely on the past stellar support for this product, which

is critical to us in our rapid development environment, we are going to
seriously consider moving to another development platform entirely where
they have on-site American/English speaking professionals - not underpayed
call centre (KB screen-reader) reps who have no understanding and no context

of the platform, and no relationships restricted escalation paths with the

Remedy software engineering community.

As a longtime customer, I am personally outraged by this move and I am
insulted that BMC has not contacted us nor have they solicited feedback on
this initiative.

What does everyone else think? (Please, EVERYONE chime in on this)

What can we do to get BMC to keep their existing support infrastructure and
stop them from farming out their support to people who can not even speak
clear American English?

Well, to take the BMC view for a minute (assuming this is true), all of the
comparisons of ITSM products I have seen grade the product suite very highly
except for one thing - cost. If they're planning on passing on some cost
savings (should any actually be realized) to the customers, this could help
expand the product line by making a superior product at a competitive price.

Subject: Re: I Am Outraged! - BMC/Remedy is Outsourcing Support!!

I've heard rumblings about this as well. I don't expect a complete
offshoring, but a substantial chunk nonetheless. It does concern me as it is
a potentially major shift.

My apprehensions can be summarized as:
1.) Language / Communication / Cultural Barriers
2.) Diminished ability for the support tech to quickly get a feel for how
advanced a caller is and adjust support tactics / pace accordingly
3.) Experience with other offshore support tells me they tend to have very
slow, rigid, scripted support methods that are of little use to advanced
callers.
4.) Severe loss of support staff experience with the supported products

I have no problem with BMC saving a dime so long as the customer experience
is maintained. I can't imagine how a move like this _could_ do anything but
hurt the customer experience in the short term. How it is in the long term
really depends on the quality of the support people as perceived by the
customers.

So as always, if you don't like something - be vocal, complain, escalate,
and use the leverage you have.
A.) The discontinuation or downgrade of your support contract
B.) Withholding of new purchases, letting the sales staff mgmt know why.
C.) Consider the options of using other products (again, include BMC in on
the thought process) These should send messages back up to BMC Mgmt
throughout the support _and_ sales organizations.

Another motivation for BMC may be that another common complaint about BMC is
that Maintenance costs are high - so they must reduce costs to reduce the
maintenance costs. If they don't pass the savings on, that's more leverage
for use in negotiations (reduced quality without reduced price??? Wtf?).

My 2 cents,
-Brian Luke

I created a filter that fires on Get Entry. The Run If was

Dan you are brilliant! My Max Entries Returned by GetList was set to
1000. I set it to 0 and now my Filters are showing. I have 1,664 Filters.

I can't believe this shows my Filters from showing details.

I posed this question to Remedy, but they didn't have an answer.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH DAN!

Dan Hardy [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:

I think this is one of everyone's favorite as designed
features...filters are retrieved using a different call than active
links (ARGetListSQL vs ARGetMultipleActiveLinks, I believe). One is
subject to the maximum get list limitation on the server, and the
other is not. If you have too many filters...you hit the limit. I've
seen that one pop up here surprisingly frequently - I could still be
 wrong though.

How many filters are there on each server, and what is the maximum
number of entries to return from a get list call in your server
 settings?

Also check the following
1. The mask option for change history is enabled for Active Links, which

2. Make sure that the latest Last Changed Time on the source for the

I downloaded Migrator 7 (patch 001) and the bug that existed in 6.00.01
(patch 1488) still exists. That defect is it does not migrate the
 change
 history.

I have reported this to Remedy and they have verified this - the defect
 reference number is: SW00249175.

The previous defect reference for Migrator 6.00.01 is: SW00209601

Remedy had me check to make sure I had the change history migration
option turned on which I did, but still to no avail.

I'm curious if anyone is using version 7 of the User Tool with an older
version of ARS Server running (i.e. 6.x).

I thought maybe version 7 might perform better (i.e. better memory usage,

Thanks.

My company's Canadian subsidiary is in the process of
joining their EDP system to the system we use here in the US. They'll be
creating support tickets using ARSystem for their own Help Desk, but some of
those may need to be escalated to support staff in the US. I'd appreciate
people's thoughts as to how best to accomplish this.
My first thought is just to have them use the same
Remedy server as the US. We'd just add support groups for Canada and French
localizations and we're good to go.
If they want to have their own Remedy server, though,
would DSO be an option? Can it share tickets between servers based on certain
conditions, or does it pretty much just replicate one server to
another?
We're currently running ITSM 5.6 on ARS 6.0.1, but by
the time Canada comes on board, we'll be on ITSM 6.0 (maybe 7.0) on ARS
7.0.

I tend to agree with Scott in that a majority of the
solutions I found were "glorified password managers" that would essentially
store/encrypt user passwords locally. The user could then associate a
stored password to an application and, upon launching the application, the
password manager would supply the data.

In our particular shop, we had Remedy set up to
authenticate against the network, but that functionality went away when we
transitioned to DoD Common Access Cards (CAC) to access the
LAN.

One of the developers I worked with was clever enough to
write his own application to read the credentials from the CAC and use that to
authenticate and log into Remedy. This functionality has been mirrored to
the web. The only "slightly" annoying thing is that you must enter your
PIN, but it works.

This approach is nice in that smart card login can handle
verifying that the credientials on the CAC against a certificate authority when
accessing the LAN, which has all been invented before.

I believe Doug may be
referring to the built in integration to provide an SSO functionality against an
LDAP store. If this is the case, this is just telling Remedy to use the
LDAP store to handle the authentication. This would then handle the SSO
functionality for both the web app and the client. I could be wrong, but
this is my assumption. If Doug could clarify this, it would be helpful in
understanding the stated direction for Remedy.

Having said that, I just worked with a
client who did a major comparison between the leading "SSO" vendors on the
market. All of them could be characterized as "password management with a
nomenclature of sso" Some work better than others, but essentially they are
all pitching the same thing.

For a true "SSO" solution, you would have
to a have central repository that all applications could reference for
authentication information. LDAP is the closest your going to get to that
and not all applications support LDAP integration. As a matter of fact,
most applicationshandle authentication individually with their own login
interfaces. So the closest thing you have in the marketplace today for SSO
is "password management" applications that willallow users to manage their
credentials to all their required applications. To the end user this still
provides the "SSO" experience regardless of how it is handled on the
backend.

It's good to see this discussion
taking place in the ARSList, as thisseems to be the hot topic
acrossmost industries today. I'm looking
forward to ongoing discussions in this area.

Just my .02.

I've noticed something similiar to this when I was using my laptop monitor

without the external monitor it appeared that the User Tool was hung. The
problem however was that the object list was off screen. The user tool was
trying to open the object list on the external monitor even though I didn't
have one connected. You can get a hold of your object list by:
   1. Hold down Alt + Spacebar
 2. Press the M key
 3. Use the arrow keys to relocate the window
 4. Press the Enter key when you have the Window in the desired location

Re: USA - CITIES

2006-05-05 Thread T. Dee
Thanks Thomas - but was hoping to obtain a list of all cities - don't want
to access their web site - want a file with all cities.

I found all cities for Canada, just need USA.

lookup on their website.Hope that helps

Was tyring to provide the users with a pull down menu based on the
 state /
province they choose. I finally found all the cities for Canada, but
 no
luck for USA. I need both the USA and Canada Cites.

I doubt that you are going to find such an item. However are you
 trying to
  build a file type menu?

Re: Integration with Bindview...

2006-05-04 Thread T. Dee
Seth - I have not used Remedy with Bindview, but have used Bindview for many
years. If you get a response to your question I would be very much
interested.

Thanks.

 Hello List,
Just wondering if anyone has integrated with a product called Bindview?
If so, could you provide methods of integration?
 Thanks,
 Seth

OT: Password Form - Expiring Passwords

2006-05-02 Thread T. Dee
A long time ago in a galaxy far away there was a form that someone
wrote that allowed users to change their own passwords. And on the plus
side the Form had the option to force the users to change their password
based on xx days.

Does anyone know where I could find this?

OT: ARS 6.3 (patch 16)

2006-05-02 Thread T. Dee
I'm looking at upgrading from 6.00.01 (patch 1394) to 6.3.

Remedy suggests 6.3 patch 16.

Does anyone have any comments on this?

Thanks.

Question: ARS ver. 6.3 upgrade

2006-05-02 Thread T. Dee
We are thinking of upgrading from 6.00.01 (patch 1394) to 6.3.

I was wondering for those of you who are using ver. 6.3 what patch would you
say is the most stable / reliable?

We are running Windows 2000, SQL 2000.

THANKS!

OT: Password Change Form ?

2006-04-28 Thread T. Dee
I remember seeing an email about someone using a Password Change Form that
someone else wrote.

It would be nice to give the users the ability to change their passwords.

Can someone provide me with more details?

Thanks.

Have a great weekend.

OT: Future Releases

2006-04-27 Thread Tyrone Dee
Does anyone know if the new release will have the ability to keep multiple
views the same. Current if I have to move some fields around in my
English View, then I have to do the same in my French View. This can take
up quite a bit of time. It is important to keep the views looking the same
despite being different languages.

Thanks.

Question: Escalation Problem - Patch ?

2006-04-27 Thread T. Dee
I saw other emails that others are having problems with Escalations.

I too am running into this problem.

I rebooted our server and it resolved the problem.

We are running SQL 2000, ARS 6.00.01 (patch 1394).

Is there a fix / patch to resolve escalations from just stopping for no
reason.

THANKS!

Question: ARInside

2006-04-25 Thread T. Dee
I downloaded ARInside in September 2005. I still have the html files. At
the bottom of my documentation it says:

Main Top ( This page was generated on 2005-09-21 10:33:33 by ARInside v.
0.01.6 rc2 )

I click on the link by ARInside v. 0.01.6 rc2, but the hyperlink failed.

Does anyone know where I can download it?

It is amazing.

Thanks!
