I think as long as you have the DSO forms and the executable all you need
to do is uncomment the line in the armonitor.conf (armonitor.cfg in

If you don't have the forms you can import them (Distributed Mapping,

  Hello,

 ARS 7.0.1 patch 5

We have a ARSever running in Production and when it was built the DSO
option was not installed. Now we need/want to enabled DSO and are wondering
if it is possible to install DSO on the existing ARServer. In Development
we have attempted to run the ARS install in upgrade mode but are having
licensing issues (ticket open with BMC). I am just curious if anyone
has added DSO over an existing AR Server install. The Currnet proudction
system has alot of customization so rebuilding the server would be painful
 just to get DSO working.

Maybe installing ARServer on another machine and then restoring that
database backup? Just looking for any suggestions.

 Thanks,
 Rob

Now I find out I need to install it and when I run the SLM install again I

install the Data Colletcor manually or how to get it in the install steps

Turning off QUOTED_IDENTIFIER

2007-04-20 Thread Rob Backstrom

Hello,

I am restoring a database on SQL7 (don't ask) for a ARS 5.0.1 (again don't
ask). the restore is fine and I have to run the ARS 501 install in upgrade
mode to be able to access the system. My problem is there are some SQL
commands in the workflow which are giving me a QUOTED_IDENTIFIER error, it
assumes the double quotes are column names in the database when it runs the
SQL code. I have QUOTED_IDENTIFER turned off, but when the Active links or
filters are run with a SQL command that contains double quotes it still
gives me the column does not exist when it shoudl be treating it as a value
and not a column.

I have tried several different option including adding the following in the
ardb.cfg file.
DB-Options:SQL Server
{
name:QUOTED_IDENTIFIER
value:OFF
}

Nothing seems to be working, any thoughts?

Thanks,

Web Service - Date/Time field example

Hi,

I am looking for an example of what a date/time field would look like when
you submit via a web service. Does it use the # of seconds format
123214324 or an actual date/time value like Fri April 7, 2007 14:30.
This is using the basic incident submit for ITSM 6.

If necessary you might have to do the following ( *** LAST RESORT *** )

  1. Find the FilterID for each of the 7 filters.
  2. In each of the FILTER_% tables delete the records for those
FilterID(s)
  3. Re-Import the 7 filters

Hope this helps some.

Re: Importing data from and Active Directory

2006-12-12 Thread Rob Backstrom

So the best solution is to create a vendor form to get the data in? We are
running on Solaris with Oracle DB(sandbox) and the AD of course is MS SQL.
We were looking at having the AD server push the data into a separate Oracle
DB and then create a vendor form against this table. But, is it possible to
create a vendor form diretcly to the AD database? Would make things easier.

filter to do a field match to import to the specific entry that matches.
After all of this is tested you can then set an escalation to do the update.
I would strongly suggest that you do not update the CMDB entry directly from
the AD.

Re: Tomcat and Crystal Reports Server XI

2006-11-15 Thread Rob Backstrom
**

When we upgraded to ARS 6.3 (ITSP 4.0) we tried to get Crystal XI running, spent nearly a month chasing BMC and BO around trying to get answers. In the end I installed Crystal 10 and I had it up and running in 10 minutes. Thru all the meetings I had with BO, it seems they changed their security model on XI and Remedy would no longer work with it (something was mentioned about using model like DOD). I know the license pricing of XI is much cheaper then version X due to small business bundles, this is why we spent the time trying to get XI working. In the end we had all users needing report to user The AR user tool and not support reporting via Mid Tier.

My question: does Crystal XI work with Remedy 7.0.1??
Thanks,
Rob

Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2006 18:34:32 -0600From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Re: Tomcat and Crystal Reports Server XITo: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG**

I finally got Crystal Report ServerXI running on the Tomcat 5.5.17 server that mid-tier 7.0.01 installs yesterday. Most of what you need to do is not documented, or scattered all over the place in pieces in the BO documentation and less so in the Tomcat "documentation" which usually tells you to try something that does not work. Note that when you install Crystal Report ServerXI on Windows it will want to run either with IIS and .NET 2.0, or with Java - in which case it installs it's own version of Tomcat 5.something in its own directory structure by default as a JAp server, but still uses IIS for the web server. I was trying to get it to use both the Tomcat JAp AND the Tomcat Web server component that mid-tier will install if coaxed to do so. Note also that the mid-tier-installed Tomcat 5.5.17 has been patched to run with Java 1.4.2 ... normally Tomcat 5.5 wants Java 1.5. ServletExec and RKM and several other things want 1.4.2, not 1.5.

Crystal Enterprise Standard 9.0 as bundled with Crystal Reports Professional 8.0 correctly served up reports for mid-tier 5.1.2 (our current production system) and 6.3, and before that Crystal Enterprise Standard 8.5 for mid-tier 5.0. This is NOT working properly for XI and mid-tier 7.0.01. My working theory is that BO changed the licensing model of the web component server bundled with Crystal Reports Professional form one with 5 concurrent un-named licenses to one with 5 named licenses, and mid-tier is incapable of using that configuration. I reported this as far back as the ITSM EA and have re-reported it this week. It is a show stopper, and BMC Remedy has not been able to explain it. And no, I have no plans (or budget) to purchase a full-blown Crystal/BOXI server of some sort just to make the reports bundled with ITSM 7 work in the mid-tier. If we have to buy some sort of concurrent license for it in order to make reporting work, that will be an unexpected expense.

I am in the process of deciding which direction to go for my Mid-Tier 7.0.01 setup. I have read the benchmarking paper comparing IIS with ServletExec, IIS with Tomcat for the JSP engine with the JK Connector and Tomcat for the web server and JSP engine.

The last option of running Tomcat as the web server and JSP engine looks pretty appealing but then I remember a posting from Christopher Strauss on 9/18/06 questioning running Crystal Reports Server XI (among other things) on Tomcat. We don’t currently own CR Server but are considering it. I have looked at the Business Objects website for requirements and haven’t found documentation stating that a JSP engine is needed. I don’t ever remember having to have a JSP engine for CR Enterprise 8.5 or 9 but it has been years since I have done one of those installs so maybe I forgot about that part. I did find that Tomcat 5.0.27 is supported as the web server for CR Server XI. http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/cr_server_xi_supported_platforms.pdf

Can anybody give me some specifics as to what the problem would be with running CR Server with Tomcat?

Hey Rob,

To return a value, you use a ‘Set Field’ action with the $PROCESS$ key word rather than the ‘Run Process’ action. Create a Set Field and read value from CURRENT TRANSACTION. Then choose the field, and from the Value menu choose PROCESS and then add the process string. The resulting value will look like:

$PROCESS$ process command

For example, I made a set field with a process in a filter on a unix server, with the value as:

$PROCESS$ ls

And my return value was, indeed, a listing of the root directory contents…

Has anyone put ITSM 7 in production yet? How long did it take you? We planned 6 months. We are just trying to do our testing, eval and have come across many issues and are having second thoughts. We are on ITSM 5.6 currently.

I've noticed a few things that might cause some grief for our users and admin's.
The shift just in processes for configuration of base system, CTI into product tiers and operational tiers, ticket submission for IN/PM/CHG, putting a CMDB to tie in properly. All the new roles, permission groups. It's almost a wholesale change for the product and we should just cut over.

We are looking at some different options now that include

Putting ITSM 5.6 on the ARS 7
Going to ITSM 6
Staying on current version.

Comments/Suggestions anyone?
