Re: set fields behavior if no requests match filter

2010-11-08 Thread lisakemes
I'm having a hard time even getting to stage one where you are looking for a
duplicate value on the same field on the same form. When I create my
Filter, I have one Action as well - Set Fields. The Server Name is the
correct server name, and the Read Value for Field From is my Form A. I do a
Set Field If: 'requestid' != $requestid$ AND 'Field 1' = $Field 1$ AND
'Field 1' != $NULL$, then set another field (like your nonUnique field) to
something, save the filter and the Server Name and Read Value for Field From
options go back to CURRENT TRANSACTION.

It sounds like we are doing the exact same thing, not sure why I can't even
get to the stage to at least get my filter to run.

I thought you can read a value from the same form.

Is it normal for a set fields operation, which is set to Set Fields to
$NULL$ if no records match, to actually set the fields anyway if no
records match? I didn't think so. Here is the scenario:

I have Form A with a 'Field 1' character field and a 'NotUnique'
character field. I want a set fields operation to, on modify, check to
see if there are any other records in Form A that have the same value as
'Field 1'. I know this is a great case for a unique index, but lets
just assume that isn't an option.

So my Filter executes on modify and has one action- set fields. It uses
the Data Source of Server and Form A as the source. The qualification
is something like this: 'requestid' != $requestid$ AND 'Field 1' =
 $Field 1$ AND 'Field 1' != $NULL$.  In this way I don't care if there
are Nulls that match, just actual values, and I prevent matching my
 own record.

If no requests match: set fields to $Null$
if multiple requests match: use first matching request
 Set Field: NotUnique = True

So what happens is NotUnique is set to True ALL the time, no matter
what. Very, very strange. Here is the kicker: If I change the Set
 Field to:

 Set Field: NotUnique = $Request ID$

THEN, it works exactly as expected. For duplicate records NotUnique
contains the Request ID of the offending record. If there is no
duplicate, it is null. My guess is it is still broken and trying to set
the field despite no matches, but since there really isn't any value to
get, it sets it to null. Whereas, in the former case I am using a
static string True instead of a field name.

Re: 7.5 Mid Tier Object List Question

2010-06-22 Thread lisakemes
Has anyone been able to figure this out? Looks like the only forms that show
up on this list is the ones with Public Permissions. We want it to act just
like the Object List on the client (where the customer can only see the
forms that they have access to).

Also, is there an easier way for the midtier customer to get to the object
list other than an entry link or adding a button on every single form that
takes them to the MidTier Object List Form?

We enabled the Enable Object List setting on the Midtier configuration,
but it appears that enabling on the MidTier server is sort of an error trap.
The MidTier will bring up the Object List if a bad URL is entered.

I can't get this to work even if I try to use a bad URL (whatever that
is!)

Thanks!

Re: Still See Fields After I Deleted Them

2010-05-04 Thread lisakemes

Hi Doug!

Thanks for responding! I must be doing something wrong then. I don't use the
edit then delete but simply click on my delete button on my keyboard. I
get the dialog box that asks me if I really want to delete and I select yes.
But sometimes it doesn't delete it from my form, but simply puts the field in
Fields not in View.

Maybe I'm hitting no by mistake, saving the form and this moves it to the
Fields not in View? I'm not sure, but I'm doing something wrong!

I just did what you suggested and now everything is nice and clean!

Thanks again!

Lisa,

If the fields are in the Fields Not In View list, then they have not been
deleted. They have simply been moved out of the view.

To delete a field, select the field and choose the Delete option (under the Edit
menu).

If a field is not in the view, you can either
   1) Go to a view that has the field in view
   2) Go to the Fields Not in View list and move it into the view

Then, the field is there, you can select it, and select the Delete option.

There will be a dialog that shows up asking if you really want to delete the
field. Respond Yes to really delete the field.

Then, save the form.

The field will be deleted -- from the form and so from all views.

The only way that the field is present in the list of fields whether in view
or not in view is that it really exists and has not been deleted. That would
be why you are seeing it on lists of fields -- it is really there.

Some people think that just by taking a field off the view -- moving it from in
view to not in view -- will delete it. Only Deleting a field will gaurantee
deleting it.

Now, if the field is a piece of trim, removing from all views may cause the
field to be deleted because it no longer has meaning because all it is is a
display. BUT, this is a side effect and may or may not happen (I don't remember
whether it does or not). If you want a field deleted, select it and select the
Delete operation and it will be deleted.

I hope this helps,

Doug Mueller

Re: DST Issues

2010-01-07 Thread lisakemes
Not sure if this is the same thing (we are NOT dealing with Business Time in
this scenario), but wanted to see what people were doing in this situation.

I have an On Call System that allows the user to create multiple records if
they are on call every XX number of days. So if someone were to type in a
Start Date of 2/2/2010 12:00:00 AM and an End Date of 2/3/2010 12:00:00 AM
and add multiple records every 100 days for 3 times, I get:

Start 2/2/2010 12:00:00 AM End 2/3/2010 12:00:00 AM
Start 5/13/2010 1:00:00 AM End 5/14/2010 1:00:00 AM
Start 8/21/2010 1:00:00 AM End 8/22/2010 1:00:00 AM
Start 11/29/2010 12:00:00 AM End 11/30/2010 12:00:00 AM

(I'm adding 60 * 60) * 24) * $Day Interval$) * $IntervalCounter$) to the
Start Date and End Date)

We understand WHY this happens, but wondering what people do about this?
Once March 14th rolls around, the times in May and August will still be
1:00:00 AM correct? (the customer wants 12:00:00 AM)

I checked the database (hoping that in the DB it was correct and the it was
only displaying in the client differently) but the Database is also showing
these dates and times.

We are thinking about creating a separate table to clarify DST Dates and
Times and if a date falls on a certain date and time, subtracting or adding
an hour to the Start Date or End Date. UGH!

David:

Have a look at Test3, it appears that the business time 1 subtract

Business Time is not DST aware. This has been true for quite some time
now, and is probably why you're seeing the issue. Basically, Business
Time doesn't know that the change from Standard to DST is a 23 hour day
nor that from DST to Standard is a 25 hour day. It's unrelated to the
changes in DST rules for 2007 - i.e. folks have been dealing with this for
 years.

This is somewhat obliquely mentioned in the tech bulletin:

In addition, as happens during any DST event, when DST begins, the day
loses one hour (hour interchange of −1). At this date, a full hour is
skipped and does not exist either before or after the transition, so this
date includes only 23 hours. Workflow that is designed to fire only
during that lost hour may not fire properly. However, since this issue
occurs during every DST event, we expect that customers that would be
affected by this event have already compensated for this issue. This
issue is not related to AR System and thus affects all versions of AR
 System.

Due to the raised level of concern on this issue, BMC is looking into
adding more intelligence into Business Time in the next release (i.e.
7.1.00) to deal with DST and time zones more gracefully. One may also be
able to write some workflow that influences Business Time results to
compensate for the lost (or gained) hour during the switch between
 Standard and Daylight.

What we do here is give the user's start and end fields so we don't have
to have a record per day. A group that may have 1 person on call for a
week would only have 1 record instead of 7. When displaying the on call
we show any record whose start = $TIMESTAMP$ and end = $TIMESTAMP$.

To validate on Submit or Modify we check that the Start Date/Time = an
ending Date/Time for the same group (or this start is in between another
 records start/end dates).

Showing it in a calander is a bit trickier but can be done.
