Re: 911: Trusted Dataset CMDB _ADDM 7.6.4

2012-07-13 Thread Peter Romain
In previous versions of ITSM a CI would fail to be created if its
categorisation didn't exist in the product catalog.

The trusted dataset allowed the automatic creation of product catalog
entries and hence CI creation would then not fail.

That's all the trusted dataset concept meant - create product catalog
entries automatically.

The trusted relationship doesn't exist as such in 7.6.4; CIs can be created
regardless of their categorisation.

The normalisation engine now corrects categorisation and has the setting to
allow product catalog entries to be created automatically if you want them
to be (as I said in a previous email I don't like doing this).

Are you expecting the trusted relationship to do something else?

Cheers

Peter

Hi,

These are the exact steps that I was referring to.

The issue is that step #5 (below) does not exist.

It is not possible to select Trusted dataset is not under Product Catalog
- because it does not exist.

The question is why? Or where can I go to select the trusted dataset as
BMC.ADDM?

How do I create the trust relationship?

version 7.6.00 or later.

Checking the BMC.ADDM dataset configuration

When using ITSM 7.0 with a backwards compatibility patch, you also need to
ensure that the BMC.ADDM dataset is trusted. To do this:

1. Access the Home page from BMC Remedy User or a browser.

2. Access the Application Administration Console.

3. Go to the Custom Configuration page.

4. From Foundation, select Products / Operational Catalogs.

5. Select Trusted Datasets for Product Catalog and click Open.

6. Select the BMC.ADDM dataset for Dataset Name and save the record.

Hi Kathy,

Did you try the ADDM training/doc on the subject? You can find it here
http://discovery.bmc.com/confluence/display/83/Preparing+BMC+Atrium+CMDB+for
+synchronization or
http://discovery.bmc.com/confluence/display/ADDMcet/CMDB+Sync, depending on
the format you prefer.

Hope that helps,

Still stuck. Does anyone know how to create a trust relationship with the
BMC.ADDM dataset in CMDB 7.6.4? I have looked in several of the BMC
technical guides and what is written is not working. The guide states
Trusted datasets is listed in the Admin Console (Custom tab) under
Foundation - Product/Operational Catalogs - and I do not see Trusted
datasets there. Does something have to be installed first? Is there a
permission setting that I am missing. I checked the BMC forums - and no info
was there.

There is a form called PCT:Trusteddataset - so trusted datasets are
associated with the Product Catalog application. At first I was wondering
if certain patches or some software from the Product Catalog has to be
configured first in order to build the trust relationship. However, we have
another Test dataset that was set up as a trust already so I am thinking
we are configured correctly.

Interestingly, the BMC.ADDM dataset does show up in Atrium Core, when I try
to create a reconciliation job.

Hi,

We created the dataset BMC.ADDM as writeable. We are trying to build the
trust relationship between ADDM and the CMDB. However, when I log into the
Application Administrator Console, I do not see 'Trusted Datasets' under the
Products/ Operational Catalogs section as described in the manual. I am
wondering why. When I open the 'Trusted Dataset' form directly - I do not
see the BMC.ADDM dataset that was created. I looked in NE:Dataset options
also.

Any ideas why this is happening.

I assume you want the CIs arriving in the ADDM dataset to create product
catalog entries automatically?

Personally I don't recommend this but it just depends on your processes to
fix the bad product catalog entries that arrive:

- proactively by them failing normalisation and not being allowed to be
reconciled then you fixing this using aliases or adding new product catalog
entries

- allowing the product catalog entries to be created automatically and
reconciled then weeding out the bad ones and updating the CMDB CIs

To allow CIs in a dataset to create product catalog entries you select the
'Allow new product catalog entry' option for the dataset in the
Normalisation Engine configuration.

Cheers
