 Hi,

I am almost sure that the flat-files never supported joins, so that may
affect performance for ITSM and CMDB.

 Hi,

The flat file option was still there in ARS 4.5 by Remedy Corporation.
There were following installation options for:
 - Flat File
 - IBM DB2
 - Oracle 8
 - MS SQL
and surprise surprise the same DB options were available for 5.0 (by
Remedy Peregrine Inc.). The first ARS server version without flat file
was 5.1 (by Remedy a BMC Software company)! The only DB option for 5.1
 installer were:
 - IBM DB2
 - Oracle
 - MS SQL

I wonder how fast flat file would be these days with ITSM Suite ;-)

From my head I remember that flat file was removed in version 5, so
the latest version should be 4.5

Error Messages in 7.6.03/04

2011-02-02 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

The release notes says that the Error Messages has been improved and
better documented.

In my investigations of differences between 7.6.03 and 7.6.04 I see that
39 message numbers has been added and that 78 has been removed, but the
file {installdir}/help/errars.arx has been increased in size.

One interesting thing is that the following message has been removed both
in errars.arx and in the Error Message Guide for 7.6.04:
ARERR [30] You are already at the limit of the number of fixed user
licenses of the following type : Write : (3)

I tried this, but it still gives me the same error in the new system...

I have added the full list of both Removed and Added messages to the end
of this email.

Hi,

I think it was when the Join-forms was introduced, that
flat-file-functionality became complicated to maintain...

I for one missed it at that time. Why not add support for SQLite and
reintroduce the error messages. A simple find/replace from flat-file to
SQLite should do it ;-)

Well...I know that joins were added in 3.0 or 3.2 and I'm sure flat was still
available in 4.x...was great for setting up a standalone dev environment...

Hi,

I think it was when the Join-forms was introduced, that
flat-file-functionality became complicated to maintain...

I for one missed it at that time. Why not add support for SQLite and
reintroduce the error messages. A simple find/replace from flat-file to
SQLite should do it ;-)

Re: Error Messages in 7.6.03/04

2011-02-02 Thread John Sundberg

Could you imagine being a Remedy internal code developer calling functions to
write into a flat-file vs calling an open-source library to write to an
open-source database?

It had to be significant pain to come up with the flat-file strategy.
