Re: Need confirmation that ARS 7.5 will run on Windows 2003 x64

2010-05-24 Thread Howard Richter
I did build up a small server for testing with 7.5 and itsm 7.6 on a
notebook running win 2003 64 bit and it did work. The database was also
local to that machine. I had no issues installing or getting it to run,
other then the system only had 4 gig of ram.

I just needed to strip it down and take my notebook back,

Good luck,

Howard

Did you put the -t as the first parameter in the armonitor file?

It should create log files in the bin directory.

What OS is your AR Server running on?

2010-05-21 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Tim,

Since this server is only for Remedy 32bit we only installed 32bit Java
There were a few rik errors in the install logs, the install hung on the
final server restart and the administration console plug-ins were not
working (sounds consistent with java issues) after manually starting ARS. I
ripped out everything ARS and started with patch 1 -> 3 -> 4 successfully
without changing anything else.

If you put -t in the armonitor.conf after the arserver then it creates a
startup log in the bin dir. It may have something in there or indicate where
it is crashing.

Is it creating a core file? If so you can pstat the core file

We're using 32bit Java.

The only entry that shows in the Windows events logs is an Application
event for armonitor.
0 : AR System server terminated -- fatal error encountered (ARNOTE 21) :
The Server process terminated.

Jason,

When you try and start the service do you get any error in the server
event logs?

We have successfully implemented ARS 7.5 Patch 4 on a Windows 2003 64
bit server.
Make sure you install a 32bit version of Java.
The only thing that was out of the normal install procedure was we had
to make sure that the install pointed to the 32Bit Java.

Trying to manually start the service generates the following error...
Windows could not start the BMC Remedy action Request System Server on
Local Computer. For more information, review the system Event Log. If
this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer
to service-specific error code 1064.

Trying to manually execute arserver.exe generates this error...
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc005). Click on OK
to terminate the application.

I've installed Remedy many times, but this is the first on a 64bit
system.
So I don't know if the problem is something I'm missing with 64bit or
part

I have also had (different) issues using 7.5 p4 for a fresh install. This
was on Windows 2008 64bit. I end up installing patch 1 since I had
successfully done fresh installs with it in the past. Then we went to patch
3 and finally patch 4.

I am thinking what you are seeing most likely related to the hardening but
it might be worth a shot to start with p1.

2010-05-19 Thread Rick Cook
Jason, I saw that error on a 32-bit Win2k3 system installation. The problem
had to do with a group domain policy that prevented the domain from caching
the server name or something. To test that, see if you can start the
service if the machine is disconnected from the domain. If so, that's it.
Your Windows admins got a little overzealous in their security settings,
and should be able to address it easily.

2010-05-19 Thread Walters, Mark
The Windows version of ARS is a 32 bit application and requires 32 bit database
clients to connect to the database (the installer uses JDBC rather than the
native db client). Double check that you have the 32 bit db client files on
the arserver machine. Also try the -t option on the arserver.exe line in
armonitor.cfg to get the startup log which may give you a clue as to exactly
where it's failing.
