Hi Roger,

Sometimes it is deliberate, happens a couple of times a year.

It is only when they say "don't tell my boss, they don't know I am looking

While we are on that topic, can someone tell me what "employee-at-will" is?

Does this mean a full time employee of the contracting company without any
employee benefits or notice of being let go; so the contractor has the worst
of all worlds: Lower pay as an employee and no protection or benefits?

Re: Remedy System Administrator Opportunity at the Federal Aviation Administration in OKC, OK

2013-12-19 Thread Brian Goralczyk
You know, no one has actually told Dan what at-will means.

At-will means that you are employed by the company at the will of the
employee and the employer. You can be fired/let go for any reason without
notice. You can also leave for any reason without notice. The employer
isn't bound by contact or edict to keep you employed. A non-at-will state
means that a company can't fire you unless there have been specific issues
and they are all documented. Most, if not all, of the United States is an
at-will employer. But lawyers have made it so companies (even in at will
states) have to worry about getting sued for negligent dismissal.

Hope that helps.

Thank-you Brian, and yes I usually google but I thought I would ask those
that had posted it in case there were others that needed an answer as well.

So my guess was right, and you might as well take a higher rate as a
contractor rather than be an at-will employee.

Thanks Dan

Tammy,

It is a serious developer 'forum', but sometimes people can get a bit
wackyand you will find Dan is from Canada...so I can guarantee you he
doesn't live in an 'at-will' state, although I don't know how those same
rules apply to the province he lives in, or laws in general in Canada...

I thought this was a serious developer web site? Try googling
"Employee-at-Will" states. You might be surprised that you belong to one
yourself.

Hi Roger,

Sometimes it is deliberate, happens a couple of times a year.

It is only when they say "don't tell my boss, they don't know I am looking
for a new job" that one has to wonder about their attention to detail :)

While we are on that topic, can someone tell me what "employee-at-will" is?

Does this mean a full time employee of the contracting company without any
employee benefits or notice of being let go; so the contractor has the worst
of all worlds: Lower pay as an employee and no protection or benefits?

Dan

The FAA is looking to fill the vacancy immediately. This position requires
somebody on-site, Mon-Friday, 7:30a to 4:30p. Remote support is not a
possibility.

Relocation assistance may be negotiable for out-of-state candidates.

This contract position is expected to renew for at least one year after

There are all sorts of rules around employee vs contractorif you treat
them as an employee, they become employees in the eyes of the law, with
certain rights and such...depending on the state...usually a contractor
will be 1099, where as an employee, even in an at-will state will typically
get W2 and health benefits, 401K, etcso there ARE benefits to employee,
even in at-will states.
