Un-Fragmenting SQL Indexes for ITSM 7.5 + SQL Server 2005
All, We are about to deploy a AR System 7.5 + ITSM 7.6 on SQL Server 2005. What is the recommended way to handle un-fragmenting of the ARSystem Db indexes? More Specifically: 1. Does un-fragmenting the indexes give us any performance boost or does it cause more problems when trying to fix? 2. Should we schedule a job to reorganize or rebuild the indexes? 3. Our deployment is considered a medium sized deployment. Should the job be scheduled quarterly? Monthly? Yearly? 4. Should the indexing job be done with the ARSystem instance is online or offline? Thanks. - John ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug10 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature

SQL Server 2005 Dbase Error
Hello All, ITSM 7.0.01 SQL Server 2005 We are getting the strangest error in the sql logs, trying to reference the table spt_server_info. I have spoken with our DBA and he said this table only existed in SQL Server 2000 and not in 2005. Has anyone seen anything like this? I don't know how to proceed. Yes it is, this object has been removed in MS-SQL 2005. https://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=229015SiteID=1 It is looking for this perhaps because the AR System server was installed on MS-SQL 2000, and the database was later upgraded. Two things you can do to resolve this.. Install the MS-SQL 2005 client. If this doesn't resolve your problem, run the upgrade the AR Server and this would install any 2005 specific libraries if that is missing.. Re: Any found Issues with BMC Remedy AR System 7.1 and SQL Server 2005
None. I just installed a new 7.1.00.001 system against SQL Server 2005 Sp2 on a separate server - both servers are on Win2K3 Enterprise x64. The secret I have found to the installation is to be logged in to the AR server with the Windows domain account that you want the service to run under, and that will be the dbo of the ARSystem database on the SQL Server; then everything installs exactly as it should, including the Windows service for Remedy. I usually add it to the local admin group on the AR server but not to the db server; on the db server you can add it to the SQL Server Security Logins and give it a dbcreator role, but the installer will usually do this for you. I just like to set up the default user and default data and log file paths on the SQL Server _before_ this installation since the dialog box for file information only works if SQL Server is local to the AR Server. If you are using local accounts instead of Active Directory, it is just a little less complicated (and secure) to set up. I NEVER use SQL Server authentication if I can help it - too many Code Red scanners still out there hammering on anything they can see. Let me guess.. large tables in the join, unindexed join criteria? Resulting in a table scan - it will eventually show the results if you do not press Stop, but your solution is check the join criteria and make sure that the fields in that criteria are indexed from the AR System. A DB level index will not help the AR System to interpret the index. Try an API log. That will give you which API is failing.. Is there anything that is written on to the arerror.log at the time of failure? I'm assuming you know how to read API logs after you generate them.. If you do not know, send them in either on the list or directly to me, and I could have a peep. SQL Server 2005 CLR and ARS API
List, I am attempting to create a stored procedure written in .Net that uses the ARS .Net API. Everything works as expected except when adding the ARS API part. I am not sure if this is even possible because it seems that you can only have one .dll file inside a SQL Assembly, and the BMC.ARSystem.dll and BMC.arnettoc.dll files are required. Running this command (after adding a reference to the ARS .Net API)... ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] FROM 'D:\ClassLibrary8.dll' ...produces this error: ALTER ASSEMBLY for assembly 'ClassLibrary8' failed because assembly 'bmc.arnettoc' is malformed or not a pure .NET assembly. Unverifiable PE Header/native stub. After I then add these files (no errors)... ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] ADD FILE FROM 'D:\BMC.arnettoc.dll' AS N'BMC.arnettoc.dll' ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] ADD FILE FROM 'D:\BMC.ARSystem.dll' AS N'BMC.ARSystem.dll' ...and then run this command: ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] FROM 'D:\ClassLibrary8.dll' ...produces this error: ALTER ASSEMBLY failed because assembly 'Classlibrary8' has more then one file associated with it. Use ALTER ASSEMBLY DROP FILE to remove extra files. Has anyone been able to get this to work with any ARS API version (C, Java, .Net)? It would be great if this could work - there are a lot of cool things that can be done using .Net in stored procedures and functions.
