Re: too many groups for one user

2007-05-24 Thread Jason Miller
Would creating a computed group that has all or most of the 36 groups for
that user?

You didn't mention what the goal of adding this person to 36+ groups was. If
you are looking to give this person permissions (forms, records, workflow,
etc.) then this may work for you. If you are looking to add them to the
groups for request assignment reasons then this may not be an option.

Hi All,

After reading all the answers, I am still trying to figure out any answers.
I still got a user who needs to be added to many groups (my client says more
than 36)
and it causes the ARSystem to crash.

Q: is this an ARS issue? if so, does anyone know if there is a patch / fix
for it?
thanks

Re: too many groups for one user (U)

2007-05-24 Thread Pickering, Christopher
Although I haven't done it, why not create a single notification group
and make that notification group a member (nested) of each of the other
groups this person needs to be a member. So in reality he/she would only
be a member of one group via the user form.

Are you referring to Support (Skill) or General groups?

1. If Support, will this user be expected to resolve tickets as a member
of these many groups?
2. Or, does this user need to stay informed of the ticket activity of
these many groups?

If #1, good luck, that's just crazy.
If #2, you could build Notification Filters to keep the user informed of
ticket activity.

Re: too many groups for one user

2007-05-21 Thread Axton

I suggest not increasing the length of this field; you could run into
some nasty problems if you hit the actual limit of the original db
colum, which measures against group ids separated by semi-colons.

With the 6.0.1 user tool, the field constraints were enforced against
the db value (group id's separated by semi-colons). Starting with
6.3, at some point, the field constraints started checking against the
interpreted value (group names separated by spaces). The former still
holds true with 6.3 and later releases if you do not interact with the
form directly (e.g., push fields to user form).

The original problem was that the user tool crashed, he already had 36
groups in the group list.

Open USER form in admin tool.

Modify field 'Group List', ID=104 from 255 to 4000 characters.

In ARS version 6.3 running on MS SQL 2000 it works OK.

Chanan,

What version are you using?
V 5.6 that I am using, does not allow more than 256 char in the groups
field on the user form.
I had the same problem when I tried adding a certain user to lots of
groups.

Although for me, it just does not allow the addition, so no crashes were
involved.
