[AsburyPark] Re: C8 is scrap metal little resistance to corrosion
Hi All, It was hard to interpret what Werner was saying about the C-8 Structure the way he framed it. And I am not a Civil Engineer! BUT, with that said, I did go to College and took two simple courses known as Physics I and Physics II. And having taken those, I am well aware of what can happen to virtually ANY unprotected Metal that sits for 20 Years next to the Ocean! My old Suburu was partially submerged in the Point Pleasant Floods of 1992. It took only 3 Years for the bottom third of that car to totally rot OUT after the flood! And the car I bought brand new in 1989! I do realize that Building Steel is a MUCH more resilient type of Metal that it's built out of. But even PLANES, which fly every DAY in questionable Weather and are made of Aluminum or Titanium (Some parts) have serious problems with the Weather affecting parts even the Fuselage. Ask any Aerodynamics Engineer ...Or even an Aircraft Mechanic (There are actually two different types of Aircraft Mechanics that work on different parts of the Plane ..Both are underpaid for their responsibility since President Reagan halved their salaries in the 1980's). Anyway, there absolutely MUST be a measurable degradation of the Frame that remains of the C-8 Building! Even for Werner to say there isn't, sorry Werner, but you have to go back and Crack your old Physics Chemistry Books Open again and re-state what you said! Considering those facts, there ARE experts who are TOTALLY qualified to re-examine the C-8 Structure and completely determine whether it IS or IS Not Safe NOW ..Today! They are best fit to determine that, not ME or Werner or Skip Bernstein Or certainly the Mayor, who's a Musician! I did write a Paper on Laser Fusion in 1978 while in College, and that's certainly a MUCH more Complex thing than determining the Safety of a Steel Frame on a Building! In fact, I'll tell you NOW that a Combination of Magnetic Fusion and MagLevTrains will BE the Transportation/ Energy Combination that SAVES the Earth from Global Warming IF we develop and/ or USE them SOON! Steve Wider --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Skip Bernstein [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The only things relevant are: has corrosion thinned the steel below the load bearing spec, and can below spec areas be repaired/replaced. To the contrary, the building as is, represents millions of dollars invested in clearance, foundations, superstructure, etc. It makes sense to use it if technically/financially feasible. It's hard to imagine that steel not being well below the load bearing spec; structural steel offers little resistance to corrosion in high moisture or wet applications, the presence of salt air is particularly deadly. The below design details list is for highway bridge construction where salt is only a seasonal concern. Design Details. For uncoated steel in bridges and other highway structures, the following items should receive careful consideration: (1) Eliminate bridge joints where possible. (2) Expansion joints must be able to control water that is on the deck. Consider the use of a trough under the deck joint to divert water away from vulnerable elements. (3) Paint all superstructure steel within a distance of 1 1/2 times the depth of girder from bridge joints. (4) Minimize the number of bridge deck scuppers. (5) Eliminate details that serve as water and debris traps. (6) Hermetically seal box members when possible, or provide weep holes to allow proper drainage and circulation of air. (7) Consider protecting pier caps and abutment walls to minimize staining. (8) Seal overlapping surfaces exposed to water (to prevent capillary penetration action). C-8 was designed to be encapsulated in concrete with general weatherproofing; with 20 years exposure the chance that that structure won't fall under its own weight seems extremely remote. The floors are crumbling and collapsing every day. There are no floors, only the corrogated sheets that the floors would have been poured on. They have mostly rusted away and will be replaced. Then the floors will be poured. I am sure there is going to be a request to change the plan, we should say no. What change are you anticipating to say no to? There are two options, complete it as designed. Or, raze it and build to the new controls. It doesn't take a lot of vision to understand that the structure is of no value (beside

[AsburyPark] Re: Letter to the Editor of the TriCity News
Amy, I partly agree with you about Anybody's, and partly do NOT! I'm not Gay, but I'm Pro-Gay and sympathize with the Crap that many Gay People go through, just as the Indians, Blacks, Hispanics and others have lived through all over this Country. I occasionally write articles for Dan at the Tri-City, and just about ALL of them have been about Social Justice in one form or another. Dan was wrong about Anybody's not deserving the Right to Fight Eminent Domain! But you are also wrong about Soriano being one of the Cutest and nicest People in Asbury Park! He's NOT! If he's Lenny, then there's a side to him you NEVER Saw! I was in Anybody's two times, and I, as well as a NY Times Photographer, were BOTH treated very unfairly, in fact RUDELY, by Soriano, the Owner! I went there BOTH Times to HELP the Owner to Fight more effectively against the Eminent Domain NOW taking Place. And he was NOT at all receptive either Time! He was Cocky, Self Absorbed, extremely Lacking the Knowledge and People he needs to WIN an Eminent Domain Fight and just UNWORKABLE as a person I was seriously TRYING to help! The Second Time, I brought a Photographer who is from the NY Times. He (Radcliffe) is doing a Story on the Abuse of Eminent Domain and how it's affecting the People, both Business Owners and Residents, here in A.P., as well as in Neptune and Long Branch. I spent four hours on the 10th, and 5 hours on the 17th going around to visit People with Radcliffe. And we visited approximately 12 People, and Radcliffe visited approximately 20 to 24 Total so far (Some in Neptune)! Anyway, when we went to Anybody's this past Saturday, Soriano REFUSED not only to have his Pictures taken, but to even TALK about his situation! But he was also extremely RUDE and unprofessional about it! He virtually came within a Pubic Hair's distance from THROWING Radcliffe OUT! And Radcliffe is a mild mannered Black Jamaican Man, who's spending Mostly his OWN Money on taking Pictures of Eminent Domain Victims, to be followed up by a New York Times Story which will be done by a Reporter who's now IN Rwanda, writing about the Genocide THERE! So, to summarize what I believe will happen, or should happen, to Anybody's, here it is: Since Soriano refuses to work with Neighbors United, which is affiliated with about 100+ Owners in Neptune, Asbury Park and Long Branch, he MAY lose the Bar! And he deserves to, NOT due to his lack of right to Due Process or being Protected by the Fifth Amendment! But because he REFUSE to Unite with Home and Business Owners, the Press and Competent Lawyers who can possibly SAVE his Bar! Now, on the Gaza strip thing. You're 100% WRONG about the People on the Gaza Strip, the Jewish People, that is! They KNEW that the Land there would eventually be given to the Palestinians, and yet they built there (Recently). Palestine, now Israel, was taken from the Palestinians in conjunction with a Post WWII Deal which NEVER should have even happened! President Clinton wrote almost the Exact Plan to rightfully give Land to the Palestinians to compensate them for what they lost years ago that is NOW finally being DONE! Plus, it was Jews removing Jews, NOT Palestinians forcing them BACK! I'm NOT Anti-Semitic, in fact, Senator Lautenberg is one of my favorite People in the Country. Not to mention that my now dear Friend, Dorothy Argyros, who's the Anti-Eminent Domain Queen, was BORN to four Jewish Grandparents. My other friend in Lakewood, Rena Amada, is also of Jewish decent, and feels the SAME as I, and Dorothy do about the Jewish People here in NJ forcibly taking Land for Profit! But the Palestinians are being given the Land on the Gaza Strip to END (Some Day) the more than 88 Years of injustice that has been done to them (It actually started ...In Recent History .. in 1917, after WWI)! And they DESERVE to get that Land, every square INCH of it! While at Anybody's the first time, I spoke to a Gay Man who works in the City delivering mail. He was not only abused, but beaten, by someone he knows! He's also highly abused at the Post Office daily! I told him of one very Powerful Person to contact about it, and I WILL check back with this guy! I also notified the Prosecutor's Office about it! I'm against ANY Injustice! And I'm not Anti-Semitic, but the Gentrification going on here in Asbury Park which WILL also push OUT the Gays one day, is being DONE by the Jewish redevelopers On PURPOSE! Right now, they are in a hostile and illegal way evicting over 130 Mental Health Patients from the Atlantic and Belmont Hotels on Asbury Ave.! They are totally harmless, but also fragile People who CAN't fight for themselves! And a Gay man on the City Council, John Loffredo has been Voting for, and endorsing this Gentrification for 4 YEARS now. What's' your take on THAT? And what will the Gay People DO when the Jews knock on THEIR Doors five years from now, and tell THEM it's time to SELL their House? It WILL happen, as it has, and is, in

That's almost verbatim what the talking handpuppets on the radio say about the Liberatarian Party. If certain people want to take themselves out of the genepool in the manner you described, no need to waste valuable police resources on 'em. At least he's against eminent domain, except, apparently, in Asbury Park. (see his ISSUES page) LOL...I noticed that too. I guess with all the dead voters that rose from the grave to vote last November, he figures the Democratic Party already has Asbury Park spoken for this November. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/16/nyregion/16jersey.html Yahoo!
