[AsburyPark] Homeless Woman
Hinge, Could'nt reply to your post, but I thought the elevators and City Hall portion of the entry way was locked, after hours? Who knew? Why wasn't she taken to a shelter? It's pretty sad, that there is a Mission for homeless men. What about women? There's something wrong with this picture! I read that article in the Press, yesterday. On the prostitution issue, I assumed that fighting this was ongoing, police activity. Seems a few years back, the Johns and Madams, were picked up, names put in the police blotter and I knew some of those being picked up! None were from Asbury Park! Seems they come here to get their kicks! Actually, I knew one individual! It caused him to retire early from his job, at the PRESS! They no longer live in the state! Needless to say, I did laugh, because these people see themselves, as pillars of the community! They were from as far as NYC and Atlantic City! Many were from Deal, Spring Lake, Sea Girt, Neptune, Belmar, Neptune City, Toms River, Brick and yes, Howell! On another matter, looking for a theme, for my year as State President, of a veteran's organization. I will need pins to give away at my installation, July 2010. Since I am native, to New Orleans, I wanted the fleur de lis, but they would be awfully hard to find here. Being a resident of AP, for 14 years and 36 years in Monmouth, I thought of the sea-horse or carousel. I will need a table display for all state meetings, about 300 pins and 15 specialty pins for the State Officers. Right now, I am serving a one-year term, as Chaplain. Next year, I will be Historian and on up to President. I was thinking of Jewell Marketing, but if someone knows where I can purchase carousels, pins and models of the old AP, I would be grateful. Please email me or write to: S. G. Boone PO Box 1243 Asbury Park, NJ 07712-1243 (732)685-5995-cell [EMAIL PROTECTED] note: I already receive catalogs ffom Collections, Etc. and Oriental Trading. Would love for all of you to see me installed. It's right out of the 50's! Kinda like the Baby Parade. My organizations raises money for respiratory diseases in children, The Children's Miracle Network, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, St. Jude's Hospital and Nursing Scholarships. It is the Fun and Fellowship, arm of The American Legion Auxiliary, State of NJ. We are all wives, daughters, sisters and grandaughters of Veterans, who are Legionnaires. Since Asbury Park is my home, I am cordially inviting this group to share in it. I don't always agree on everything, but know that I love you all, because you mean well. When I was President on the County level, I had all of my formal dinners and installations, at the Historic Berkeley-Carteret. They were wonderful. I even had one dinner at Rooney's, in Long Branch. If I didn't know better, I'd swear, I grew up, here! So, if anyone can lead me to some good pins and give-aways, I'd be eternally grateful. What led me to ask, is, I saw a display in the current issue of the Coaster! Loved it! Thanks, Sharon Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Kate Mellina take on the Freeholders!
Clean government group calls on county to adopt pay-to-play measure Proposal already law in Mercer Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 01/12/07 BY BOB JORDAN FREEHOLD BUREAU FREEHOLD The co-chairwoman of a clean government advocacy group saying residents are tired of seeing Chris Christie's face on the front page of the newspaper urged the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders on Thursday night to take action on a pay-to-play ordinance. Numerous county residents who attended the meeting at the Hall of Records said they endorsed the proposal by Ocean Township resident Kate Mellina, a former Asbury Park City Council member who is a leader of Citizens' Campaign. Her reference was to political corruption-related indictments and arrests overseen by Christopher J. Christie, the U.S. attorney for New Jersey. Mellina said a key component of the proposal is limiting contractor donations made to nonlocal candidate committees, political parties and PACs that wheel money into Monmouth County elections. But Manalapan resident Rhoda Chodosh said any action the freeholders might take on various portions of the proposal could be made moot by action the state Legislature takes in the future. At the state level something has to be done, Chodosh said. It should start at the state. Angel Matos of Keyport disagreed. I think waiting for the state would be wrong, Matos said. I think they should start whenever they can. Freeholder Director William C. Barham said the ideas will be considered. We will discuss them and see what merit there is in the documents you've forwarded us, Barham said. However, about a dozen residents some of them saying they are members of Citizens' Campaign and others saying they are not affiliated with the group but hopeful of changes in how elections are conducted said the freeholders should fast-track a strong ordinance. I want you to pass a resolution on this, said Carl Beams of Howell. Beams said the cost of government is driven higher by lucrative professional contracts awarded by successful candidates to those who supported them in elections. Taxes are unbearable, Beams said. This might be the one way to control costs. I'd like to think we're progressive enough to do this, said Jennie Mistretta of Freehold Township. Mellina said Citizens' Campaign drafted a model ordinance that has been adopted by 75 municipalities, including Asbury Park, Belmar, Red Bank, Marlboro and Millstone. Mercer County has also adopted a pay-to-play policy, she said. Under the proposal, Monmouth County could not sign contracts with any professional or vendor who had donated more than $300 in the previous year to any single municipal, county or state party, candidate committee or political action committee that regularly supports Monmouth County elections. Potential contractors would also be limited to $2,500 in aggregate donations to these groups. Bob Jordan: (732) 308-7755, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Sean Kean getting nervous...
I guess I have them worried: Sean Kean , Assemblyman in the 11 th District is not only up for re -election for the Assembly this coming November, but he is also expecting to get the Republican party approval to run to replace Senator Palaia who is retiring and not seeking re-election this year. I announced my intent to run for the Palaia seat, and all of a sudden Sean wakes up. I brought Bruce Mac Cloud to him 4 years ago. He did nothing for 4 years to help those suffering from eminent domain abuse. Now all of a sudden he realizes he has made a mistake. The following appeared in a local newspaper: Kean bill targets eminent domain abuse statewide by STAFF Posted: 2007-01-11 Assemblyman Sean Kean, R-Monmouth, has introduced a bill that that would strictly limit when municipalities could use the power of eminent domain to seize private property. The measure was introduced on December 14 would amend the State Constitution to prohibit the use of eminent domain for private development unless the property is demonstrated to be detrimental to the public's health, safety and welfare of the community. “Right now, perfectly good homes are being seized and handed over to private developers who only care about lining their pockets,” he said. “Eminent domain was never intended to be used in this fashion and the Legislature must act quickly to rein in this abuse of government power.” Kean introduced the bill in response to what he considers the abuse of eminent domain in New Jersey and in his legislative district. “Hardworking people are having their homes taken from them simply because they happen to be located in areas coveted by developers,” he said. Kean said the bill would ensure that citizens' homes cannot be seized simply because development at that location would bring in more tax revenue. And if the legislation, ACR-225, becomes law, a ballot question will go before the voters that ask if the Constitution should be amended to allow property to be taken when the municipality proves it negatively affects the community. “People should not have to live in fear of having their homes taken out from under them by governments that want to increase ratables,” he added. Kean is hopeful that his colleagues in the Legislature will recognize the need to act quickly on this measure. ++ Don't be fooled by this political ploy. Sean cares about one thing, Sean! Rev.
