I foresaw many of the problems we have today but no one paid attention

Very telling is the timing of my 'exile' from participating in the

Perhaps now we can prevent that from happening again with this 'global

Sounds good but could result in disaster. If JCPL owns the lamps, they
can replace them at will if its determined that they are too expensive
to repair/restore.

That's what happened to Ocean Grove years ago. All the historic lamps
along their boardwalk were taken out and replaced with modern ones.

Luckily someone made an issue of the area being a Nation Historic
District. The original lamps were located in the utility's scrap yard,
 retrieved and reinstalled.

Exactly. No hysteria at all.
Of the 6 nice vintage Westinghouse Cast Iron lamp poles, only one is out, the
one on the
North eastern path running diagonally into and out of the park.
The generic, which works intermittenely, has been vandalized, as were the 3
lights on the
top of the fountain.
I believe that repairing the generic light would solve the lighting problem in
the short
term, as it's the only viable light in the center area, which is where the
problem is.

[AsburyPark] Buy the Coaster read: Main Street as City’s Next Bustling Business Area

2007-11-08 Thread Mario

My favorite is the last sentence.

=

Adapted from today's Coaster:

Developer Sees Main Street as City's Next Bustling Business Area

Asbury Park real estate developer Pat Fasano thinks Main Sreet in Asbury
Park can be the next Cookman Avenue.

Main Street is a visual experience, he says, explaining that
the average person driving down the major thoroughfare will think to
himself Asbury Park still looks the same, because not much has
changed on Main Street while there is major redevelopment underway
throughout the city.

Fasano says Main Street, which is also Route 71, sees 30,000 cars a day
and he thinks it's important that what those drivers see is a new
look along the way.

One of Fasano's supporters is Asbury Park Roastery, located on the
Second Avenue side of the building. She says Fasano has been very
supportive of her business and has brought her new customers since he
bought the building. She recently agreed to sell Asbury Park Roastery
coffee at the Whole Foods Market in Middletown.

Fasano cites other positive Main Street developments, including
…retail space on Main Street between Sunset and Sixth Avenues. A new
Italian market will be the first business to open there.

Support the Coaster and its advertisers.

[AsburyPark] Re: Asbury Park Jam

2007-11-08 Thread John C. LiDestri
Sharon,

the fund raiser comment triggered the Newman connection.

we have plenty of capacity in out plant to accommodate additional
Jam productionthe trick is getting it to market.

there are a few ways we get product to market

1)you can develop a brand and go directly to retailers and pay
slotting feesvery expensive.

2)private label: you can pack for supermarkets with their store
brand, for instance packing a Kirkland Signature item for Costco or
packing Jammin for Wegman's.

3)contract packing: you can contract pack for other brands such as a
Classico, Tostidos, Barilla, Newman's Own, etc.

The most difficult way to go to market is by developing a brand as
it very costly and there is a risk factor if the brand does not
succeed.

Well, you did a nice job with that grape seed basting oil - you recommended,
I bought, I liked.

I'd recommend strawberry / rhubarb, but no one in the world except me likes
that combo.

Anything with Asbury Park, Greetings from, Salt Water, should be marketable.
Geez, I remember seeing on eBay, offerings of Asbury Park Sand for sale
when Bruce did his Rising thing on NBC's Today Show.

[AsburyPark] How NYC Deals with a Recalcitrant Developer

2007-11-08 Thread dfsavgny
Someone needs to get tough here.

Bloomberg unveils Coney Island plan
November 08. 2007 3:32PMBy:
Kira Bindrim

Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday unveiled a rezoning plan for Coney
Island that would create a 15-acre outdoor amusement park and edge out
property owner Thor Equities, which wants to build condominiums and
time-shares -- a $1.5 billion project that would also require rezoning.

Mr. Bloomberg's 47-acre rezoning would divide Coney Island into three
development zones surrounding Keyspan Park. Coney Island North would
contain 1,800 residential units and 100,000 square feet of retail
space, while Coney Island West would include 2,700 units of housing
and up to 360,000 square feet of retail.

The real changes lie in Coney Island East, a 21-acre segment of land
owned primarily by Joseph Sitt's Thor Equities. The city's plan would
zone Coney East for amusements, hotels and restaurants, thwarting Mr.
Sitt's plans to build condominiums and time-shares in addition to
amusements.

But Mr. Bloomberg will have to get approval from the state
legislature, and acquire the land from Mr. Sitt through a cash or land
swap deal. Only then could the city issue its request to developers
for proposals to build the amusement park. If Mr. Sitt doesn't
cooperate, he would be entitled to rebuild his lots according to
present zoning rules, which prohibit condo and time-share developments.

We're disappointed by the mayor's presentations, but are optimistic
that a deal can be reached between the city, the landowners and the
community to make Coney Island an even greater place to live and
visit, Mr. Sitt said in a statement.

City planners anticipate a 12- to 18-month rezoning process, which
will include public hearings. Construction could start by mid-2009,
and could take up to 20 years to complete.

Just imagine the economic impact on this community if a new,
revitalized Coney Island, with its exciting new attractions, could
hold just a fraction of our city's 44 million annual visitors, Mr.
Bloomberg said during a press conference at Coney Island's Gargiulo's
Restaurant.

Mr. Sitt's development plan was never without controversy. City
officials had said his design for an enclosed amusement park seemed
more like a shopping mall, and community leaders complained about the
allocation of seaside locations to residences instead of amusements.

[AsburyPark] Re: Legalize This!

2007-11-08 Thread 2fine4u
Mario,
I had heard about the jammers on CNN, last week! When I heard they
were illegal, that thwarted me from buying one! Are phoners, that
needy, that they have to be ON the thing, 24/7? I wonder sometimes,
if there IS someone on the other end, or are they THAT rude? Whatever
happened to manners, like excuse me and thank you? Bring back
TELEPHONE booths! We're a rude, MEANspirited, JUST ME society, now!
Great piece!

afternoon in early September, an architect boarded his commuter train
and became a cellphone vigilante. He sat down next to a 20-something
woman who he said was blabbing away into her phone.
She was using the word `like' all the time. She sounded
like a Valley Girl, said the architect, Andrew, who declined to
give his last name because what he did next was illegal.
  And some of the
letters in response are even better. Like: 1. As my fellow riders

can't quite hear you in Brooklyn.3. You want to talk real
loud about, like, nothing? You can do that at home as much as you want.
Oh, you don't want to waste your time at home talking about nothing?
O.K., then save it for work. No one expects anything else of you there
anyway.Excerpted from letters: Click here: When Your Cellphone Is
