I gave the Deal Police a poster and also Brian from Market in The

eye on the building across the street to make sure he is not there. Madison

2007-11-14 Thread Jack Pitzer
I'll take a drive around the city tonight and see if I can help find Maxie.
I'd also suggest that the owners contact the APPD, as well as the Loch Arbor
and
Allenhurst PD with a missing dog report.
Hopefully Maxie will be found safe and sound.

Nelson,

I have contacted my friends in the area with the information from your

I hope that Maxie is found soon and happy to tell her story!

I don't recall the store name, but if you enter the Shoppes at the
Arcade from Cookman, go to the lower level, to the first store on the
right (after the PhotoBooth), they had some peace necklaces. I hope
that helps.

[AsburyPark] The saddest thing I've read all day...

2007-11-14 Thread Jack Pitzer
Teen killed in Asbury Park by hit-and-run driver
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 11/14/07

BY ED JOHNSON
AND MICHELLE SAHN

ASBURY PARK — A 15-year old boy was hit and killed Tuesday night by a van
driven by a
city man
who authorities say was unlicensed and driving while intoxicated.

The driver of that van, Baltazar Martinez-Cruz, 35, parked the vehicle about
150 feet west
of the site of impact on Fifth Avenue near Sunset Park and fled on foot, but
police found
him at his First Avenue home, authorities said.

Martinez-Cruz was charged with being involved in a fatal collision while
driving while on
the revoked list, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision, and
driving while
intoxicated, said First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw
Jr.

The 35-year-old city man was also issued summonses for reckless driving,
leaving the
scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, driving while on the
revoked list, and
being an unlicensed driver.

Friends of the victim, Joseph Kavon Dickerson, a 10th grade student at Asbury
Park High
School gathered Wednesday at a makeshift memorial near the park. They
remembered the
boy they alternately called "Joe D" and Kavon.

"He was just riding that little go cart when a van came out of the apartment
driveway and
hit him,"" said Theresa Burr, 12, Joseph Dickerson's girlfriend. "I held his
hand. The last
thing he said was I love you.""

Burr and other witnesses said the van hit Dickerson as he tried to spin around
the street
on a peddle operated three-wheeled cycle.

"The guy was going full speed. He just hit him and dragged him up the street,""
said
Anthony Sab, 14. "He got hit by the hood and went under the van.''

Dickerson was pronounced dead at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in
Neptune at
6:44 p.m., Warshaw said.

At his family's Seventh Street apartment family and friends remembered the boy
with the
infectious smile and a propensity for practical jokes. The boy who participated
in Silver
Gloves Boxing when his family lived in Ohio and hoped to become a professional
boxer.

His brother, Tyshon, 12, recalled the sibling that taught him how to box and
recounted
the
arguments both had over the years.

"We'd say we hated each other, but never meant it. We'd be playing together
right after.
Now I'll miss him,'' he said.

At the parkside memorial his sister, Lashana, 14, walked away crying. "I can't
believe it. I
can't believe it."" she repeated as a relative embraced her.

Monique Whitehead, Dickerson's mother, said she'll struggle with the loss of
the son who
hoped to be a professional boxer.

"I'll get by day-by-day,"" she said. "I'll remember his smile and his sense of
humor.''

""He was the best. Such a handsome boy,'' said Cynthia Whitehead, Dickerson's
grandmother. "He was a wonderful grandson. Always smiling, always joking. He
had many,
many, many friends. He made friends with everyone. Just a great guy.''

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, family members said.

looking

1. It could still be arcitectually pleasing - to someone walking by. I
could look at a nice brownstone, a house in Deal or the Empire State
Building and draw a conclusion.

...looking back at my old doodles of Ocean Ave..I eliminated 6th Ave,
2nd ave and the west lanes of 3rd and 4th ave, curved ocean ave west a
bit between 3rd and 4th to make the east side of the bw larger...

You can still stick a big building 15 feet off the ground and create
the "sense" of space.

[AsburyPark] MISSING DOG, PLEASE HELP!

2007-11-14 Thread nferreira2000
Hi Everyone. I am posting this message on behalf of a couple of
friends of mine who suffered two terrible losses last night. Two of
his dogs went loose last night around 6:30 between 7th and 8th ave.
Unfortunately, Smokey, a pug, was killed by a hit-and-run driver by
Deal Lake. Maxie, an English bulldog, is still missing

Please help us her find her! At this point we're thinking someone
probably took her in.

Maxie is 3 years old and responds to her name. She did not have a
collar on.

Please call Anthony, one of Maxie's owners at 201-481-9609. I do
believe a REWARD is being offered as well

I will try to attach a photo in the gallery. This picture was taken
when she was a puppy.

"Missing" flyers are also being posted throughout town

Thanks

That was Articulate and Practical. A better focus for us would be
determining how to get the "Green spaces" back to what they should
be like getting plantings back into Bradley Park again. That is
feasible and would look beautiful. Scaling back the building is a
non-starter so lets focus where it may have an impact.

First of all, this isnt New York City, this is Asbury Park. In New
York, there are hundreds of streets and blocks, different areas of
density, a heavy flow of constant foot traffic... if Asbury Park ever
has as much density as New York City then God bless it. And that rule
only applies to high density areas of New York like Times Square,
Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue, etc. Things that would be the
equivalent of the Boardwalk, Cookman Avenue, Main Street.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed mostly homes for suburbs with yards in
his career. Natural light, glass, stone... these were things designed
to make people feel comfortable from the INSIDE of the building, not
people walking by on the street. His houses were designed with
interior spaces in mind, he is sometimes credited with creating what
we would today call an open floor plan.

If you really want Asbury Park to rebound, then you have to accept
the fact that things aren't going to be like they were in the past.
Wake up people, you cant get developers to build single family homes,
motels, one story restaruants and bars, etc in a town which has
blocks and blocks of empty oceanfront real estate. I dont care what
the name on the door of the company behind the redevelopment is, its
a pipe dream if you believe the past is going to come back.

Theyre going to build big with alot of density, and in the case of
the Esperanza, or North Beach, or anything else thats going to get
built for that matter, you have to utilize 100% lot coverage (or
close to it) at street level in order to accomodate parking under the
building as well as mechaincal equiptment, lobbys and entrances,
retail, and also being able to fit a pool on top of the building in
between the towers. Without those things the building wont function
properly, and you arent utilizing all of your potential as a
developer... and as an architect, you design based on what the
developer wants. If the architect said to Metro Homes, "hey I think
you should scale back your project 75 units and set back your
building 10 feet from each side to include a lawn," they'd tell him
or her to go screw themselves and they'd get someone else to design
the building. Remember, theres a business aspect to all of this too.

And do you really think people aren't going to come to Asbury Park,
or residents aren't going to walk down the street to the beach
because the Esperanza is too close to the street? Come on.

Well, you gotta know I love the artist painting barriers idea.

I also keep thinking about "point of difference" in marketing. That AP
encourages art would be part of that point of difference.

BTW, did you know that artists not only gentrify a neighborhood when
they move in, they also keep a sort of fraudulent runaway gentrification
from happening by stabilizing it.

I've read this before but I'm also seeing it happen in my building on
