here's a thought regarding taxpayer money or funds raised by
citizens/mm/asbury partners. Win or lose something special should
be done for this football team by this town. Show these kids (and
the younger ones who look up to them) what can happen with hard work
and dedication. It also sends a message that the town is united and
is willing to stand behind the kids when they do good things, not
just arrest them when they do bad things. Any ideas?

They are 9-1, having won 9 straight. An enourmous turn around
from
last year when they were 1-9. In their defense, the board of ed
last
year acutally let them start the season without having a coach.

Anyway, since APHS hasn't won a title in 23 years and hasn't
played
for one in 20, this is historic.

A town gets judged by its football.

Maybe it would be a good idea to go up to Rutgers next weekend to
 support them.

It just so happens that Howell is playing the same day at Rutgers
for
 a Championship in a different sectiton, so I get a 2 for 1.

Man, just blackberried a message about that on the subway. Long range
plan in my view to increase office space here but need to lay the
ground work now.

No need to move muni center. Sell the site for office development
(multi-story) with huge underground parking. The city gets back a
built out condo for the space/floors it needs. Interconnected to NEW
transit center.

Lobby NJT to electrify the line down to Bay Head. In this day and age
with global warming concerns, there is no sense running diesel
locomotives. With electrification in the future years increase the
number of express runs.

Office use trickles down to downtown. New muni center plays into Main
St. redo. Old office bldgs downtown will become residential condos
eventually. I see office use by transportation center and along Memorial.

Most important thing is to keep quality of life and safety
improvements going. You have that you have everything.

[AsburyPark] Re: Missing Red English Bulldog. Please keep looking

2007-11-19 Thread nferreira2000
Jack,

There were a few sightings yesterday. I attached two more PDF files in
the Files sections that shows where Maxie was spotted

The files are labeled:

Maxie Sightings MISSING Maxie2_2_

Another one of Maxie's owners (Anthony also) tried to post this email
to the group yesterday, but was unable to. I am posting it on his behalf

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and effort in searching for
Maxie. We know you have been doing so much and have seen and talked
too many of you in the last couple of days. Your help and support
means so much to us and will never be forgotten.

Our hopes were raised this weekend, as there were several sightings
yesterday morning (Saturday 11/17) in the southwest section of Asbury.
A large group of us canvassed the area Saturday and Sunday and while
we received several leads, we still haven't found her.

The first report came from DeWitt and Bangs and Dewitt Mattison,
around 10 a.m. Later, around 11:30 a.m., we talked to a couple of
different people who saw her on Springwood and Adams and Springwood
and Union. This morning we also talked to someone who saw her early
this morning (Sun 11/18) around 2-3 a.m. around Rollo Plaza and Munroe
Ave. This was the last sighting.

I've attached a map which plots the various sightings and times.

The lack of sightings today could be due to a number of different reasons:
-Given the rain today (she hates rain!) she probably found a warm spot
to curl up in and stay dry
-She may have moved on to a different neighborhood (although she seams
to be going in circles!)
-Someone may have picked her up and be keeping her inside

We all feel we are close in finding her, and ask for your continued
support. If you can help in any of the following ways, we would be so
grateful:
-Continue to canvass the southwest section of town during daylight hours
-I have attached a flyer you can print/handout/post
-Please only do this during daylight. If someone were put in harm's
way helping us, we would be even more heartbroken.
-Widen search to neighboring sections
-We searched south in Neptune across Hwy 33; east to the ocean; west
past Hwy 35; north past Asbury Ave and in the Northwest section of
town, but posting/canvassing increases the odds of finding a lost pet
by 200%, so the more the better.
-If you know anybody that lives in these areas or in any neighboring
towns, please forward the flyer to them and ask them to post in their
local merchants

Thank you!!

Thank you for your concern and interest Jack

Nelson

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and effort in searching for
Maxie. We know you have been doing so much and have seen and talked
too many of you in the last couple of days. Your help and support
means so much to us and will never be forgotten.

Our hopes were raised this weekend, as there were several sightings
yesterday morning (Saturday 11/17) in the southwest section of
Asbury.
A large group of us canvassed the area Saturday and Sunday and while
we received several leads, we still haven't found her.

The first report came from DeWitt and Bangs and Dewitt Mattison,
around 10 a.m. Later, around 11:30 a.m., we talked to a couple of
different people who saw her on Springwood and Adams and Springwood
and Union. This morning we also talked to someone who saw her early
this morning (Sun 11/18) around 2-3 a.m. around Rollo Plaza and
Munroe
Ave. This was the last sighting.

I've attached a map which plots the various sightings and times.

The lack of sightings today could be due to a number of different
reasons:
-Given the rain today (she hates rain!) she probably found a warm
spot
to curl up in and stay dry
-She may have moved on to a different neighborhood (although she
seams
  to be going in circles!)
-Someone may have picked her up and be keeping her inside

We all feel we are close in finding her, and ask for your continued
support. If you can help in any of the following ways, we would be
so
  grateful:
-Continue to canvass the southwest section of town during daylight
hours
-I have attached a flyer you can print/handout/post
-Please only do this during daylight. If someone were put in harm's
way helping us, we would be even more heartbroken.
  -Widen search to neighboring sections
-We searched south in Neptune across Hwy 33; east to the ocean; west
past Hwy 35; north past Asbury Ave and in the Northwest section of
town, but posting/canvassing increases the odds of finding a lost
pet
by 200%, so the more the better.
-If you know anybody that lives in these areas or in any neighboring
towns, please forward the flyer to them and ask them to post in
their
  local merchants

  Thank you!!

Thank you for your concern and interest Jack

Very Claver !

It would be helpful to also plot Home and the last place the dog was
known to be.

That way the other points will either make sense of not.

2007-11-19 Thread Jersey Shore John

The New Jersey Exodus That Wasn't

By MARY E. FORSBERG
Copyright 2007 The New York Times Company
The New York Times

NOV. 18, 2007

It seems as if everyone is talking about a recent study by Rutgers
University that suggests that New Jersey is soon to be a barren state
devoid of people, shops and commerce.

Reaction to the report has been breathless, with newspaper headlines
proclaiming Exodus from N.J. grows and Honey, I shrunk N.J. The
accompanying news articles are using phrases like population drain
and fleeing the state in droves. One editorial suggested that New
Jerseyans should not bother getting to know their neighbors, since
they'll be leaving soon. The Mercer County Chamber of Commerce held a
discussion on the report and vowed to create a foundation aimed at
changing the state's business climate.

But a closer inspection shows that the Rutgers report's doomsday
forecast is based on selective use of census data. The report notes
that more people are leaving New Jersey for other states than are
moving in from other states. By this measurement, 231,565 more people
left than came.

When only state-to-state movement is considered, New Jersey is indeed
one of 24 states that are losing population to Southern and Western
states. But such movement is only part of the story. When births,
deaths and immigration are figured in -- data that the Rutgers report
did not include -- only Louisiana and North Dakota have lost
population in this decade.

The United States population has grown by nearly 18 million people
since 2000 and 40 percent of this growth is immigrants from other
countries. New Jersey benefits from this, having the fifth-largest
immigrant influx of any state.

The Rutgers study ignores these people. It does not point out that
New Jersey's population has actually grown by 310,213 since 2000. Nor
does it mention that the number of people coming to the state from
other countries is greater than the number who have moved from New
Jersey to another state. Census data not found in the Rutgers report
reveal that nearly 360,000 people have moved to New Jersey from other
countries; just under 278,000 have moved to another state.

So, New Jersey's population is not declining. True, it is growing at
a slower rate than in the past. But is that a bad thing for the
nation's most densely populated state?

The Rutgers analysis says New Jersey is not just losing people, but
money too. It uses Internal Revenue Service data that track the
residence of federal tax filers to show which states people move to
and from each year. But here again, major points are missed. For
example, though more people leave New Jersey for other states than
move in from other states, the median income of people who come is
higher than that of those who leave. This suggests that many who
leave are retirees, while many who come are in their peak earning years.

A more accurate picture can be seen by examining state income tax
data from the New Jersey Division of Taxation. In 2005 (the most
recent year for which state data are available), more than 2.7
million income tax returns were filed in New Jersey, an increase of
6.2 percent from 2001. State income tax in 2005 was assessed on gross
income of $258.1 billion, up 15 percent from 2001. And, in 2005 there
were 37,648 tax returns with incomes greater than $500,000, up from
28,000 in 2001.

New Jersey is holding its own, but that doesn't mean there are no
problems. The lack of affordable housing remains an issue, and for
too long, government has ignored the need to invest in transportation
and other areas that will make the state more livable and maximize
the advantage of New Jersey's location. What we need is an honest
look at our priorities and how to pay for them, not scary warnings
for the last person leaving the state to turn out the lights.

There's no question that New Jersey inspires ambivalence among its
residents. But despite quality-of-life challenges, it continues to
attract and offer economic opportunity to hard-working people from
all over the world. Despite the claims by the Rutgers report, the sky
over New Jersey is not falling.

I know it is a little crazy, but the two of you could get a friend
to drop you off at the corner of Ridge Avenue and Deal Lake and walk
home. Think about how dogs track fugitives.

The lake is a perfect barrier. Leave some food, Maxie's blanket or
such and maybe a couple of your T-shirts in a pile outside your home.
Good Luck.

A high-rise building on this site or one of the adjacent sites would

in addition to the ocean to the east.

Perhaps some of the building could be marketed as a regional center

Scent. Scent molecules linger for days above where something has

level basements - pool, theatre, recital hall, gyms, etc etc. Then
ground level level open all the way up between 2 buildings, 15,000
students.

You need to be bold and build something that connects the downtown to
main to the west side.

[AsburyPark] Missing Red English Bulldog. Please keep looking

2007-11-19 Thread Anthony Granito
Hi Werner, this is AnthonyG, one of Maxie’s owners. It is very hard to say
how Maxie ended up on the west side.

My first thought was someone had to bring her there. The night she went
missing we had 9 people (not including people on the AP list that went out
after we posted it) looking for her from Sunset Lake to Deal Lake and from
Main Street to the Ocean. It was/is hard for me to believe we all missed
her. However, I guess it is possible that she wondered there on her own. It
was 3 ½ days before anyone called and said that they saw her. Saturday was
a the first beautiful day since she was missing, Maxie loves to take in the
sun so maybe that why she was out and about. The weather has not been to
good since Saturday and if she is still outside, I’m hoping she is just
taking cover.

I do realize most of us are taught to stay away from stray dogs, however,
Maxie has never bitten anyone, she does nervous and sometimes has separation
anxiety. Maxie is very loveable and loves to cuddle with you on a couch.

That be said, if anyone sees her, don’t be afraid, she just may be happy to
see you and she will want to jump in your arms.

Very nice - what makes no sense is that there is no path from 'home'.

Is the theory that someone abducted the dog and moved it to the West
side of town?
