Strike that... The NJSIAA has APHS listed as an enrollment of 348, not
398.

Is the school really that small - 348 students?

[AsburyPark] This needs to be fixed

Asbury Park Little League Runs Into More Obstacles by Board

By TOM CARDINALE

The ongoing renovations at the Asbury Park Little League field at
Asbury Park High School have run into some new obstacles, according to
Little League president Danny McKee.

I've been working on this for two years and everyone was aware,
McKee said. The school board voted that we could go ahead.

McKee says, after meeting with school board member Frank D'Alessandro
and the district's Assistant Business Administrator Michael Steinmetz
on Mon., Nov. 12 he was told to move forward with the completion of
the project. The lighting structures were en route from Iowa and set
to be delivered on Nov. 15, he says, when he received a call on Nov.
14 from Aiman Mahmoud, the district's Head Business Administrator,
advising him that he would not be able to move forward with the project.

Mr. Mahmoud called on Wednesday and said `Stop everything' and I
couldn't even store the lights at the field, McKee said.

McKee said he believes Mahmoud, who has been a supporter of the
project, was acting on instructions from someone from the board.

They're always coming up with more hoops for me to jump through,
McKee said.

The latest issue, according to McKee, is that the board wants a soil
test done on the field to ensure the sandy soil can support the
lighting structures. However, McKee says that the electrical companies
- Lucas Electric and Musko Lighting - have constructed similar
lighting towers in far sandier locations.

They've installed lights at the bay where they had to wait for the
tide to go out to do it, McKee said.

McKee says Lucas was aware of the sandy soil throughout the project
and has planned ahead for it. He also said he looked into getting a
soil test but discovered that it costs nearly $10,000, a cost that
would be impossible for the league to afford.

If I had $10,000 I'd do the soil test, he said, but I'm on a
shoestring as it is.

McKee says he hopes to convince the board that the lighting will be
safe and secure using testimony from Lucas Electric.

Lucas Electric; it warms me how they've handled it, they're storing
the lights until it gets resolved, McKee said.

The board, according to McKee, has also asked for information from the
Little League. Information sought includes bank statements, how much
money is in escrow and who will have a key to the field-house. The
board also asked about insurance.

I asked about the insurance issues a month ago and received no
response, he said.

Finally, McKee says, it was determined that the deed governing the
land which the field is on would need to be changed in order for the
project to be completed. He said that the deed prohibits any
structures within 25 feet of the street. Under this rule the fence
installed by the school is also illegal, McKee said.

The school board wants the league, however, to pay the $300 necessary
to change the ordinance, McKee said.

If this is a microcosm of what's going on down there then they have
serious problems, McKee said. The kids, who everyone is supposed to
be working for, are nowhere on the radar.

Acting School Superintendent James Parham declined to comment on the
situation.

I can't talk about that right now, he said. There are some legal
issues that need to be addressed.

McKee says his only choice at this point is to try his best to fulfill
their requirements.

I could hire an attorney but then what? he said. If I have to hire
an attorney that's where I get off.

The only reason I haven't given up is because if I do this project
will never get done, he said, and everyone who read about it will
say same old s— different day in Asbury Park.

[AsburyPark] Things noticed in MM's offices

2007-11-23 Thread arcman210
Walked by Madison Marquettes offices today... through the windows both
in the conference room on the boardwalk and on the side of the
building, noticed alot of presentation boards with plans and renderings
on them... i'll run down what I saw (it made me feel very optimistic
about the future for the boardwalk):

Plans for Casino Arcade: four concepts with different layouts, they
appear to be for that market they are talking about... they look like
kiosks being shown placed in different locations and how they create a
flow of people through the arcade (doesnt include plans for the
carousel house or remainder of building, only the arcade part which is
open now).

Plans for a nicely designed mini golf course were on a display board.

Updated sight plan from May 06... shown are a different layout for the
hotel area not including the Palace, with ample space in front of the
carousel house. The Stone Pony is also still drawn in that plan as well.

Updated Wesley Grove phase plan: Phase I of the remainder of the
project includes the block across the street from the current phase...
the block where the former boe offices are was drawn in as Phase IVa
and IVb. Could this mean that a new developer is taking over and doing
things their way?

Many plans for 5th Avenue Pavilion on display. New renderings of the
exterior and plans for the ground floor retail and the upper bandshell
portion. A run down of things noticed on these boards:
1) Rendering of proposed renovations, very similar to what we saw a few
years ago but without the roof over the seating area of the
bandshell... original brick color, rebuilt ramps, and overall looked
really nice.
2) Ground floor plan, showing retail bays and area around the
pavilion... to the south a larger walkway (extended about as far as the
south end of Madam Maries) curvy, with planters, flowers, etc...
3) Second floor plan, showing new seating pretty much the same as the
old one and the rebuilt ramps...

Also, Convention Hall looks amazing inside with the new shops,
Christmas tree, bright lights, and music playing with lots of people
around... really a warm feeling that you never got before when it was
all closed up inside... and the facade of the building which has been
redone really looks great too.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.

I took my 6 month old Mastiff to Philadelphia for the Purina National

Just my way of keeping her memory alive!

==geez, I was almmost ready to say it.

I up now, because my son decided to rollover in a go-cart and broke a
wrist on on hand and chewed up a finger on another and we are to be
leaving in a few hrs to Flso it's 3am and I jsut got back from the
hospital and he'll be ok. Another lesson in his daredevil days.

As far the Little League goes I don't know if I can help with the soil
test, but I'm gonna make some calls to a few engineers I know and see
if I can get anything out of them. I've worked with a few larger
companies - not sure if I'm it'll work, but I'll try.

don't forget to tell the BOE that the league will go on with or
without the lights - on that field. Then
