[AsburyPark] Council Meeting at Asbury Tower ?
An reports of what happened at the meeting last night? I had heard previously that there was a movement to have the Townhouses, planned for Ocean Ave in front of the Tower, eliminated. Restoration groups say the rescues of beautiful old theaters reflect dual desires: a devotion to movies and live drama, dance and concerts; and adding value to downtown economies. _Curtains Rise Again - New York Times_ (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/05/realestate/commercial/05theater.html?_r=1oref=slogin) L'Or v'Or, L'Dor v'Dor : From Light to Light, From Generation to Generation Happy Hanukkah **Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. [AsburyPark] Re: Main Street Revitalized by Renovations of Old Theaters
I recall a few years back a successful movie theater owner/manager was approached (I don't know who approached him) to renovate an underperforming/derelict theater in AP to restore it to its original stature. The catch? He would have to build, open and manage a movie theater in Niagra Falls, NY. Netflix, Blockbuster, etc. has challenged the industry. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: Main Street Revitalized by Renovations of Old Theaters
Netflix and Blockbuster may have challenged the industry, but is the industry all that challenging anymore? What I mean by this is that personally, I think the US movie industry is slipping big time, as is most entertainment. Quality is down, commercialism is way up. Most mainstream movie releases are pretty weak until this time of year, and Hollywood saves their good films for the Oscar push. That gives us 11 months of marginal crap and 1 month of movies for movie lovers. I have a lifetime subscription to Netflix from my old job, and I've seen all the movies I always wanted to see by now. Many of us have too many distractions to be able to devote 2 hours to watching a movie, at least as far as the younger generation goes. Myspace, video games, the internet in general, text messagesall of the so called great technological innovations that make our life so great are alienating us more then ever, and shortening our attention spans as time goes on. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Netflix, Blockbuster, etc. has challenged the industry. LOL Werner Hey Werner, you think approving something in the past is bizarre, how about this gem from their agenda tonight: ANNOUNCEMENT BY MAYOR SANDERS as to compliance with Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 231, P.L. 1975 ,that adequate notice of this meeting has been provided in the following manner: The Annual Notice was forwarded to the Asbury Park Press, The Coaster, and Star Ledger on December 27, 2007, and posted on the City bulletin board the same date. All notices are on file with the City Clerk. What tense do I use if I want to ask the city clerk for a copy of the notice that will have been filed on December 27, 2007? Is that the future imperfect? If so, it is surely not as imperfect as the past or present for that matter. Note also that the Sunshine notice was already posted in the future. Does someone out there have a Theremin? (That's the instrument played prominently in both The Day the Earth Stood Still and Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.) Does anyone have a dangling participle we can add to the notice above? All in all, I guess it's not as bad as someone in the BOE office not sending out the Sunshine Notice in time for a meeting in early November. Hey, that's the answer to this conundrum! Send out the notice sometime in the distant future for events that will take place in the near future. If the universe is really curved anyway, it'll all catch up to itself someday. Does any of this make sense to you, Werner? If so, please explain something much more puzzling: how did the council approve that redevelopment plan in the first place? I guess we're all a little tense lately. F. D'Alessandro Yahoo! I agree with you. I would never buy a wii game for a giving tree. Basketballs, art supplies, mittens, simple toys...kids don't need what they want. The kids i know who don't have much are getting shoe boxes filled with art supplies, writing tools, writing pads, fun chewable vitamins, kid tooth brushes, toothpaste, calculators. I will do my best to never buy toys for giving trees and if i do i will buy the basics. I WILL try to make sure that I always have kids IN my life that i know have less than most so i can not only have the opportunity the share with them personally, but also be able to talk to them about greed advertising and EXTREME poverty the likes of which will never exist in Asbury Park. but this post started about FOOD. Man, people with less means, buy their kids this stuff! Not saying it's right, but kids need to have their expectations, LOWERED! Since they are bombarded with the buy me advertisements, I can't blame them, for wanting one. When you received $25.00, that amount is equivalent to the high cost of kids things, now. Hell! A Soda cost a nickle, candy bars, chips were all 5 cents! They cost a dollar and upwards, now. Kids now, don't even know what penny candy, is! What do you think? I say back to stick ball, tinker toys, and Etch-a-Sketch. Steven Weber is a bit more of a curmudgeon today. The rest is HIS-story! brutes compared to, say, the BBC World News, which has a far more catholic response to the expectations of its audience. But back in America, Don't know WHAT, this means? Catholic response? mass mediocrity has become the adhesive that binds its citizenry who are no longer incentivized to want better education, to be more vigilant about food and product safety, to expect responsible civil service and to dare hope for accountable leaders. This is to the point of criminal! I think this is perception, in scope! More than 50% of Americans, know exactly what's going on. [AsburyPark] Re: Bush Freezing Sub-Prime Rates?
So Henry Paulson is going to freeze the interest rates on home loans and Ben Bernanke is going to lower the Fed discount rate a whole point. It’s kind of like fishing with a shotgun in a glass bottom boat. You get a swimming lesson after you pull the trigger. http://tinyurl.com/23jchx What happens when you freeze the interest rates? Go out and try to buy any house with financing, its just isn’t going to be there. What businessman will loan money under fixed assumptions only to be paid under a changing set of rules. Georgia a while back passed a law to protect homeowners and effectively shut down the loan industry in the state. This is the old “Pull the rug out from under the lender routine.” Then we have Bernanke lowering the Fed funds rate. It doesn't take much thinking to figure out that the exchange rate on the dollar will fall. In this case, smart money will refuse to renew their Treasury Bills. Since it’s competitive bidding, less bidders, means higher prices. There is a couple of trillion dollars that could vote with feet. Foreigners will sell the dollar now and wait. Then buy when it hits bottom. If things don’t go right, this could be like catching a bag of cement dropped from the second floor (messy to say the least). Treasury bill rates could surge up as soon as tomorrow.
