[AsburyPark] Organ's Gig Finds It in Fine Voice

2008-08-23 Thread Mario
In a message dated 8/15/2008 , [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: On Thursday
evening, I was on a bike ride heading south, and I heard organ music in
the distance coming from The Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove. It was one
of a series of free concerts there, with a notable guest organist.
Several hundred people were in attendence. Very cool. I sat there in awe
of the sound and technique required to master such a daunting
instrument. Pipe organs continue to have fans around the world, and many
of them travel great distances to experience what I did, for free, 5 min
away from where I live. What Jack heard:Excerpts from Organ's
Centennial Gig Finds It in Fine Voice, 8/24/2008,
http://tinyurl.com/5jcnb8 http://tinyurl.com/5jcnb8 : The Great
Auditorium organ, among the largest in the world, is at once both
massive and fragileIts sound is as distinctive a part of a New
Jersey summer as the horn-driven rock 'n' roll that once
flourished just across the Wesley Lake footbridge in Asbury Park, Ocean
Grove's worldlier neighbor The doors had been slid open to let
in the sea breeze, and the music rolled out into the twilight. The sun
was setting behind the auditorium, a natural spotlight hitting the
stage, focused not on any of the musicians, but instead on the tall
golden pipes of the organ. The light climbed as the music ebbed and
flowed, until it finally ascended out of sight, and the windows filled
with darkness, and the organ played on. from Organ's Centennial Gig

Although they do go to Liverpool to visit the Cavern Club... which isn't
the real Cavern Club.

Golden opportunities are being mixed. It is an industry waiting to be
capitalized. You do not even have to create it. Make the Pony part of a
working music museum. If yoy ran things right you coud probsbly keep a
hotel fully booked with foreign Bruce tourists.

That being said, I highly doubt people like that would come to Asbury
to see a relocated Stone Pony in a building like the casino.

A hotel/restaurant/museum on the Stone Pony block would be an absolute
score... packed with tourists and music enthusiasts all year round.

Asbury Park's Cavern Club was the Student Prince. Maybe someone
should open one that isn't the real Student Prince.

There's lots of old clubs that could come back .

The Saint, in my day, was the Clover Club.

I miss the Clover Club.

I didn't know the building was ever anything other then The Saint.
Hmmm... This could explain the neon clover over the door?

It was more then that. It was THE place to go when you looked old enough. It's
historic as
well for many reasons. Like Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Ocean Twp kids. 2 for 1 Rum and
cokes,
flaming shots...the bayonne girls... lots of good times..kamikzi by the
pitchers..

Let's see if Tommy D can come up with the owner / b-tender name.

Clover Club before the Saint.

My Pontiac Catalina died out there. I tried to put the air filter cover back on
at 2 am on
the wing nut fell into the carb. I thought it would make it back home to
wanamassa. The
wing nut found its way down into the engine and seized it up

There's another 100 Clover Club stories better

You DO realize that you are now officially known to this group
as Wingnut? WN for short. This could have happened to me (and
still could!) Shit happens... apparently to you first and me
second, I'll be WN-2!!
