I don't agree with the suggestion that
participating in a community-oriented message board and
performing good works are mutually exclusive activities.

I do agree with Glenn's suggestion that
posting a list of all of the children's interests here would be a good
idea.

I do know that specific requests for help posted to these boards generally
get a good response.

And, to cop a phrase from post # 44070, you could have simply posted a
request for volunteers
without taking a stab at those who post more frequently here,
without being judgmental about how they spend their time, and
without making assumptions about what they do or don't do during their spare
time.

Did you resolve to spend less time on this message board this year?
I've got some things to help fill your spare time...

Besides always needing volunteers to help kids with homework at Holy
Spirit's After-School program, I would like to try and match some
adults from the community up with certain kids to fulfill some
specific requests and needs.

Here are some examples

I have one little girl that would learn how to play the keyboard.
Any musicians out there that could spare some time? She received a
small keyboard for her birthday.

A 7th grade boy I know would really like to attend the Marine Science
Academy in Sandy Hook when he enters high school. I am looking for
someone who could just tutor him in general now and/or maybe help
prepare him for the entrance exam next year.

There are, of course, many other cases. I know volunteering can
sometimes be an intimidating commitment to get involved with. These
kids already attend Holy Spirit's after-school program so the venue
is there and we can work out a schedule that completely suits you.

Hope to hear from some of you. Feel free to let me know if you have
any specific talents that you would like to share.

Kerri

So condense and summarize where you can, but do the explaining,

The details would take a book. What I'm going though is overwhelming
to say the least. The 'system' has taken over $65k that could have
fixed all my alleged 'code violations'

Summonses issued, dead body reported, home raided, search warrant,
raided again, condemnation proceedings, lawyer1, told to empty home
into dumpster, refinancing, $35K lien discovered, lawyer1 refuses to
do the work, lawyer1 quits, 45 day jail sentence, lawyer2, $10.5K
legal fees, get out of jail, lose $35k, court every Friday, lawyer3,
$5K legal fees, ordered to sell home, order refused, contractor
steals money, lawyer3 says City sued, lawyer2 quits, 30 days in jail,
friends build deck, bedbug bites, pneumonia, get out of jail, 19 more
summonses, lawyer3 did nothing, public defender denied, told to sell
home again, facing 14.5 years $38K fine

To answer Allan's question specifically, I was jailed the first time
for 'contempt' in spite of having refinanced as ordered. I was jailed
the second time supposedly due to a guilty plea entered by lawyer1,
however the record shows 'contempt' again as the charge.

NJ Court Rules specify an automatic stay of sentence for a charge of
'contempt'. Both times I was hauled out of Court directly to jail.

Justice??? Due Process??? Legal Ethics??? Proportionality???

Call my dad at Monmouth U- marine bio professor for the past 100

willing to listen, he'll talk all day. All the school has to is call

Kids at MU have to volunteer etc.

[AsburyPark] Brookdale and BRAC

2009-01-12 Thread MarioAPNJ
Colleges' Role in Military's Restructuring, January 2009

from The Chronicle of Higher Education: Money and Management:
http://tinyurl.com/7kess7

Brookdale Community College, in New Jersey, is advising local businesses
that will be hurt by the impending closure of Fort Monmouth. The college is
devising short-term training programs to help former military employees make
the
transition into other professions, including computer networking, project
management, and teaching, says Linda Milstein, vice president for outreach,
business, and community development. The majority of the base's 5,500 workers
are
civilians, and many are expected to stay behind.

Colleges Play Crucial Role in Military's Restructuring - Chronicle.com

Those familiar with the base-realignment process, which is commonly known as
BRAC, say colleges--in particular community colleges, with their experience
in work-force education and their ability to build up programs quickly — will
play a vital role.

Across the country, colleges like Anne Arundel are devising strategies and
designing curricula to meet the demands created by the substantial troop
shifts. They are adding degree and certificate programs and refashioning or
expanding others, in areas as diverse as network security, procurement and
contracting, and nursing.
The colleges are attempting to anticipate the midcareer training needs of
military personnel and government contractors who are moving. They are trying
to
prepare local residents, like Ms. Sanborn, to fill positions vacated by
defense workers who opt not to make the move. And in places where the armed
forces are scaling down or pulling out completely, they are stepping in to
teach
workers new skills and counsel small businesses that have relied on a military
 clientele.

Oak,
That's why I have a problem wth the phrase single Mom! For a
stick-in-the-mud-old married lady, single Mom meant an unwed Mother!
Today, it's any woman raising kids alone. I prefer divorcee, a once
married woman and widower, meaning the man/woman is dead!

Single Mom, conjures up a lot of negative pictures for me. Whatever!
Not familiar with your acronyms either. Don't know what BK means
since I'm not in the real estate business. All I know how to do is
read and negotiate contracts and manage projects, thus project
management! As far as Sears, I guess I was just lucky. When I left
New Orleans, my washer and dryer, both Sears, lasted 20 years! I gave
them to my Mom, who had just bought her first home, when she and my
dad divorced and my youngest sister was in her last year of undergrad
in college.

Anything made in China means cheap and poorly made!

What's that $85millon year to just ap schools - not a bailout to
property owners in AP? It has to be done and I don't how it can be
done fairly. Life is not fair I was always told - so work hard.

People that abuse the system make it worse for those truly in need. If
you have a rent subsidized house in NYC and you sublet it and pocket
the change - fair or not? IF you rent out a room in a home you get a
voucher for and don't report it - fair or unfair? If you don't pay
your rent, tell your landlord (or bank if you own) go ahead and evict
me and proceed to party in front of that new tv - fair or unfair?

You worked hard and did it right - so is it fair or unfair? Or is it
 the system.

Did you listen to Obama the other day? It's ugly out there if you're

I know people complain about how expensive MC is but with Brookdale,
our amazing parks and our libraries, we have incredible resources
here. The Brookdale Library is a gorgeous space and MC residents can
borrow books. And it is a beautiful campus.

My heart goes out to those who have been really comfortable in a
position and it gets pulled out from under them. But the reality is
that there is no such thing as security. A friend of mine has been a
union employee for 20 some years, company was bought, may lose her
job. She has never sat in front of a computer. Sorta makes me mad at
the union. If the union was there for her benefit wouldn't they have
urged her to diversify her skills? Instead they may strike.

[AsburyPark] Re: New Year's Resolutions

2009-01-12 Thread martin_kerri
Whoa Mario! That's not at all what I meant. Just thought I would
start the post a little light-heartedly. Sorry if I offended
anyone.

I do agree with Glenn's suggestion that
posting a list of all of the children's interests here would be
a good
 idea.

I do know that specific requests for help posted to these boards
generally
 get a good response.

And, to cop a phrase from post # 44070, you could have simply
posted a
 request for volunteers
without taking a stab at those who post more frequently here,
without being judgmental about how they spend their time, and
without making assumptions about what they do or don't do during
their spare
 time.

I've got some things to help fill your spare time...

Besides always needing volunteers to help kids with homework at
Holy
Spirit's After-School program, I would like to try and match some
adults from the community up with certain kids to fulfill some
 specific requests and needs.

 Here are some examples

I have one little girl that would learn how to play the
keyboard.
Any musicians out there that could spare some time? She received
a
 small keyboard for her birthday.

A 7th grade boy I know would really like to attend the Marine
Science
Academy in Sandy Hook when he enters high school. I am looking
for
someone who could just tutor him in general now and/or maybe help
prepare him for the entrance exam next year.

There are, of course, many other cases. I know volunteering can
sometimes be an intimidating commitment to get involved with.
These
kids already attend Holy Spirit's after-school program so the
venue
is there and we can work out a schedule that completely suits you.

Hope to hear from some of you. Feel free to let me know if you
have
any specific talents that you would like to share.

 Kerri

[AsburyPark] Call to Service-Sunset LAke Clean Up!

2009-01-12 Thread bailyquinn
All,

The Environmental and Shade Tree Commission has teamed up with the
Sunset Lake Committee to do a clean-up in support of the National
Call to Service
(http://www.theyoungturks.com/story/2009/1/12/172350/754/Diary/From-
Michelle-Obama-Your-Call-to-Service).

Volunteers will gather at Sunset Lake in Asbury Park to clean up the
lake. The city's Department of Public Works will provide tools
(rakes, nets, gloves) and receptacles for the trash as well as a boat
in order to troll the lake for debris.

High schoolers can use these 3 hours for Community Service projects.
The Asbury Park Environment and Shade Tree Commission also will
provide documents of support to assist immigrants seeking
citizenship.

The Clean Up will begin on Inaugural Weekend - Saturday, January 17th
at 9:00AM and will continue until Noon.

Volunteers are asked to gather at the Emory Street foot bridge on
Sunset Ave.

Coffee and donuts will be provided. All are invited. Dress warm.

Amy Quinn

OK
It sounded like another scolding about the missionary position.
