[AsburyPark] beach ordinance
Dear AP Citizens and Friends If not mistaken, the city council dug this law up to prevent women's right to a topless option - since they cited the law so they didn't have to rule either way on the option it now stands to again haunt all rights from being exposed above the knee. silly to say the least, reggie On the beach ordinance, we're into the 21st century and since the revolution of the 60's, who cares what anyone is wearing? I say take the regulation off the books! Asbury wants to be visitor friendly. Channel 5 and Channel 12 were on, live this morning, asking visitors what they thought. My thought is, throw the regulation out! If you're swimming, sun-tanning or whatever, people have to go onto the boardwalk, if not, but for a bottle of water! Nothing personal, but what era is SHE living in? I haven't been posting, as I saw nothing relevant to post about! Just my 2 cents! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Dog Park YMCA
Dear Mr. Thoman; Library Park is truly a beautiful park and lovely setting; however, it doesn't seem to the serve the community as a whole since it is all too often occupied by those who vandalize that which you have worked so hard to improve. It actually might be best for the preservation of its partial beauty to host the canine community and its owners in the lovely oasis so that just through their abundant presence more citizens will take notice and will enjoy the park; as well, mischievous conduct will be deterred. I personally thought the Grand Ave religious organizations fine Churches would get more involved with Library Park; however, that does not seem to be so, given that most special occasion photo ops occur on the boardwalk. Just curious, i watched the slicing of original relief on the Young Mens Christian building this past weekend recently purchased by johnny mac co., does the historic society have an opinion or suggest control on what can be destroyed on such a historic building? Thanks for your patience to my obvious lack of knowledge of your efforts. Kindly, Reggie On Jun 7, 2012, at 6:54 PM, Hinge wrote: Also, dogs aren't permitted at the beach area from May until Sept. Subject: [AsburyPark] Dog Park As a member of the Asbury Park Historical Society, I among the majority of others on the Board of Directors, listened to Rachel Hirchfeld's presentation to the Board a few months ago touting the virtues of having a dog park located in a section of Library Park. Having spent in excess of $60,000 dollars to bring the park back to its former glory which included restoration of the fountain, putting in a sprinkling system to water the many hedges and plants and trees we planted, we informed Ms Hirchfeld that as a group we were not in favor of setting aside a portion of the park for the dogs of Asbury since there already is a portion of the beach set aside for the dog's socialization as she called it. The park historically was intended for the use of the people of Asbury, not for its canine population. We are vehemently opposed to turning this historical property over to those who view it as a dumping grounds for the use of dog-owners and their pets who, perhaps, are too lazy to walk their pets to the beach area! We wanted to know who would be responsible for cleaning up the dog-droppings, maintaining the set-aside area, paying for the installation of fences around the designated area, etc. Ms. Hirchfeld said that would be determined as plans for the dog area progressed and invited us to appoint members of the historical society to the planning board. Teddy Chomko and I volunteered to serve on that committee, but as of today, we have not heard a word from the committee. Now, it seems, the plans for the dog part have have been approved by the council to try it out. Thanks again, Asbury Park City Council, for including the Historical Society in the decision making process!! Even though we were instrumental in bringing the park back from oblivion, you have chosen to ignore our work and our wishes! What is it about Jim, that riles you to want to have harm visit him? He valiantly speaks for ALL who live here, including me! I've lived in Monmouth County over 40 years; 20 years in AP, 20 in Neptune and 18 months in Belmar. Are you a part of the solution or part of the problem? Gangs just didn't pop uo here. It was years in coming to an area, depressed by poverty and unemployment. Substandard housing and racial discrimination of all forms. Do you think the schools in AP got bad overnight? I've heard countless stories about what really happened here. Sending districts began sending their students to Ocean Township and Red Bank, making Asbury Park virtually all Black/Hispanic and as far back as 1972, a substandard school system. That's just for starters. So if a man who happens to be white and a Christian in every sense, feels passionate about anyone not living their dream, you want harm to come to? Please, you sound just like the rest of the newbies, who have no clue that AP is NOT SoHo South, but a microcosm of everything that's wrong with this country. When 2 million Blacks and Hispanics are incarcerated, yet make up 12% of the population, something is definitely wrong with this picture. If teachers aren't teaching our kids, I say fire them all and get some who are interested in teaching us the way I was taught 50 years ago. I believe too, the Police, Firefighters and Emergency technicians have more than they can handle. The State Police have patroled Asbury's streets ever since the riots. The Authorities need to get to the bottom of how sophisticated, gangs have become. They operate out of the prisons and offer unsupervised youths a glamorous life, money and a false sense of security, where none is offered at home. Television offers up a glamorous lifestyle to youths living in the ghetto, promising them bling like the pros have. Role models begin at home. My son works a gang intervention program. Which thankfully we have avoided for the most part. Also, keep in mind, many visitors do not see the Asbury crime first hand like us residents. 99% of the Crime in AP takes place off the boardwalk. Creating a nice cover for the book that is AP. Very few of these visitors read about the crime because the APP is hardly read outside the immediate area. God forbid the TriCity mention any crime... Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Massive Tree Massacre Cookman Elsewhere in AP?
Yes, it is a pity that we somehow equate progress with loss of history. The trees have been debated for months, there are those professionals that say they are healthy and a vibrant heritage keepsake which should be protected and pruned and there are those that have a plan for a new urban street scape appealing to hmmm that's the question, hard to say. Anyways the trees were planted by Asbury's Men Women in Blue after the riots which burned our beautiful street scape. The police department wanted to beautify the city so folks from far and wide would still want to visit Asbury during the spring easter bonnet parade, that is why they choose the flowering pear. Sure it's a hard woody tree that looses an occasional limb if not properly cared for but it's history that is being RIPPED from the ground and replaced with concrete. Shame to the village that has permitted the destruction and violence towards nature. Shame on all for not being more proactive and voicing our opinions to council. As far as they are concerned they feel this is necessary and appropriate. Wonder what folks in Greenwich Village, NYC would do if the same street scape plan was proposed to themtake down ALL... EVERY SINGLE TREE in your beautiful village... for a new CONCRETE ... NON PERVIOUS sidewalk and matching curb, to accommodate a 4' round pvc pipe of led infrastructure lighting that we don't own, can''t afford, but hope to some day buy So come enjoy your village this weekend at the Yoga Festival by the Sea, because once it's over every tree on Mattison will be ripped from the ground.
