Actually, it is not the City that does not care about the litter, it is the LITTERERS that don't care. I watch miscreants drop their trash on the street all the time. They look me in the eye when they are doing it. It is simply an undertated way of saying F. U. Their are signalling to the rest of us that they do not give a damn about this city. Tragically, this is the attitude that is ruining their sorry lives. Police should issue summonses whenever they see this happening. Much of the daily garbage I encounter in my neighborhood is discarded liquor and beer containers. This happens every single day. I've never seen anything like it. 2 houses away from mine is a recently restored home that has a nicely landscaped yard, and they spent money to replace the depleted grass on both sides with sod. This weekend, some a-hole dumped the remains of what looked like a whole case of beer on that sod and drove away. Things like that make me crazy. Give them some clean up supplies and send them into the park. Maybe it would be good for both the people seeking charitiable help, as well as keeping an otherwise beautiful park clean. Of course, I'm constantly reminded of how Europe deals with their parks and street cleanup. And of course it takes money that we don't have. Anyhow, in most European cities, you will see clean up crews every single night cleaning the streets and parks, and emptying the trash cans. It's almost like what happens at Disney everyday. And from what I've seen from my many years spent overseas, people are less prone to trash their cities, so theres less crap to clean up. Yahoo! As I read back my post below, it occurs to me that I'm beginning to sound like a one-track mind jerk, so I apologize in advance. I thought about deleting the post, but I figure it's better to be honest and let it stay. I guess part of the problem for me and litter is that I've never lived in a place where it's so prevelent. It truly disgusts me. The nearest local town I lived in prior to moving here was Allenhurst, which we all know is pretty spotless. Same goes for Edgewater up north. When I think back to around the year 2000, I was living in Allenhurst, and dating a girl here in AP. Occasionally, me and my dog would spend the night at her place, and I'd take my dog for a walk in AP and back then I vowed never to live in a place this dirty. So I guess I can only blame myself for moving to a place that had a problem I already knew about. Personally, I can't relate to the mentality of a person who thinks it's ok to just drop their trash anywhere they want to. I guess growing up in the 70's and watching that commercial with the Indian crying had an effect on me.
