[AsburyPark] Maxie Update
Hi Everyone. I'm posting this on behalf of Maxie's owners... All, We have sad news, more than two months ago in mid-November we asked for your help in finding our Maxie, we are writing today with the final chapter. Maxie was found today in Deal Lake, only a few blocks from where she went missing. From the appearance of her coat and body, she had been in the water for quite some time. We will always be grateful for your help (in actions, comforting words, and prayer). While we are extremely hurt and pained by the news, we are grateful to have closure. I'm very sorry for your precious loss. I know how much a pet means to the owners and the grieving process can be just as long for a pet as it would be for a beloved relative. In fact, your pets are apart of your family, just as a child. They cost just as much. At least that is what I believe. Just remember the good times and when possible get another pet to ease the pain if you can. I know from where I speak. And I hope my story will bring you comfort in your time of loss. I too had to bury 2 precious pixi bobs since Dec. The medical bills are huge, but I tried to comfort each of them because they brought me much joy, laughter and love into my life for years. And any thing I could have done to let them know how much they meant to me was my pleasure. We had a very nice painless passing because each of us knew we did all we could have done. I brought her home from the hospital on my birthday to be with her family. And when it was time, my Precious Sheba took her last walk from the dinning room into the kitchen, said her goodbyes, headed towards the door and died. My heart jumped because I thought she was better. It was such a courageous jester that she did to comfort me, I laughed, then cried. Her kittens enjoyed fish, beef and chicken breast after the burial, licked their chops and playing together gracefully, Even though they knew we would have to perform another ritual in a month. 17 month old Eloise Precious Sheba, my late mother's name sake never made a sound when it was her time. She was strong enough to delay her death for a month. She spent New Year's in hospital and when we found out she wasn't pregnant, we brought her home in hopes of a miracle. On a diet of antibiotics, vitamines and chicken breast smoothies her last days were spent jumping up on my bed. And EACH TIME SHE WAS SUCCESSFUL WITH HER JUMP, the look on her face was that of NOT BAD FOR A DEAD GIRL. I laughed with delight in hopes of defying the doctors last rites. But in the end, she just jumped up on my bed Monday night, laid in her basket and went to sleep. I was so confident I'd have another day with her that I too slept like a baby only to wake up next to her cold little body. I was amazed that she never uttered a sound so as not to awaken me to distress. I thanked her for her grand jester. Her sisters had stir fry, chicken breast smoothies, licked their chops and are now playing gracefully...in hopes of not repeating this ritual again for a long, long time to come. [AsburyPark] Maxie Update
Hi All - We hope your holiday season if off to an enjoyable start. We just wanted to give you the latest update on Maxie and thank you once again for your thoughts, prayers and help. I ran across a quote the other day from Pamela Dugdale that sums up our feelings for you all: Dogs bring out the best in humankind. You all have truly demonstrated this again and again and we are grateful. Maxie still hasn't come home and we are now trying to follow up on one more credible lead. We received a call about two weeks ago from a woman who lives in the senior building at 206 First Ave in Asbury. She said she thinks she spotted Maxie in her building. She said she saw a man with a dog in the elevator around Nov 14, around the time Maxie first went missing. She had never seen him with a dog before so she commented on the dog and asked where he got it. He said he found the dog on the beach, loose. At the time, the woman hadn't seen our flyer, so she didn't think much about it. Two weeks later she saw our flyer, recognized the dog, and called us. Unfortunately she doesn't know what apartment the man lives in and the building is very large. She promised to keep an eye out for him and let us know if she sees him or Maxie again. Both the timing, when this man claimed he found the dog on the beach, and the location, make sense. And the woman seemed sure it was Maxie, so we are viewing this as a credible lead. Any help you can offer in following up on this lead would as always be welcomed and greatly appreciated. We have spent time watching the building in the hope of seeing him bring her down for a walk, but no luck so far. The building is large and has many entrances and exits. We continue to go past the building and, coincidentally, will be moving next week to a building just a few blocks away from the senior building. We are looking into our ability to get inside the building, and if we can we will canvass all the occupants (or as many as possible). As Christmas presents for ourselves and for our male English Bulldog, Muscles, and to help us in the healing process, we bought new puppies Anthony N. and Rick now have a 9 week old female Pug, Bella, and Anthony G has a 13 week old male English Bulldog, Tank. Both new additions are adorable and are bringing lots of joy to us, just what we needed!! But we still need Maxie to come home to make us feel complete as a family!! [AsburyPark] Maxie Update
Maxie Update: We had another Maxie sighting today, in the same neighborhood. A 15 year old boy called us around 1 p.m. and said he saw a dog that looked like Maxie being taken into a house at 1617 Heck St. He seemed credible and described the behavior of the dog, which matched Maxie's -- she's on the hyper/jumpy side :) We immediately drove to the house and met with the boy in person and he confirmed he saw a dog that looks like Maxie being taken into that house. Then we actually saw the owner of the house and her daughter outside and asked her about the dog and she said she had not seen any stray dogs. She did not mention being a dog owner. We then went to the Neptune Police Department to see if they could do anything, but the officer behind the desk was not helpful in the least. While we are grateful that Maxie may be warm and dry and being fed, we want her home! We don't want to falsely accuse anyone, but need to follow up on this lead. We have been by the house off and on all day and have posted flyers on poles surrounding the house. The house is on the corner of Heck and Myrtle and has a chain link fence around it, giving a good view into both front and back yards. We plan on continuing to drive by the house and post more flyers around it tomorrow and Friday. We might do a stake out -- the dog has to pee! If anybody can help us by driving by this house at any point in the next couple of days, we would be so grateful. Again we don't know for sure if this is her, or if there is a dog in that house at all, as we haven't seen her first hand.
