You're right about them sounding better as long as the vinyl is not damaged. I
don't miss the clicks and pops of a worn out record but when CD first came out
I did the test listening to several of the same record on both formats and
digital just can't reproduce the warmth of a record.

Amazingly, vinyl records sales are up more then 80% this years.
Why?
Nostalgia factor, plus new generations are discovering that it's nice to hold
an album in
your hands, and cover art is being rediscovered. Plus, vinyl is now cheaper.
I think it's time for me to get a new record player. I miss vinyl. It still
sounds better then
CDs.

Pay satellite radio has flourished despite the availability of free
AM and FM radio and the ubiquity of iPods.

I once had a brief assignment for someone looking at Sat radio. I never
did get it, other then if you're a sports fan or really needed to
listen to howard or that stuff.

Our first record player was from sears. * track from two guys. My
cassette recorder from bradlees reel to reel from the hadassah thrift
shop...as was the am/fm radio. Cd player fromanother place that went
 BK..

The speakers in my room were from a bunch of old radios, masking tape
to the walls tied into an earphone jack..never purchased a record,
cassette...maybe a few cds for my kids and wife.

 WJLK was am and fm.

I got XM for my wife when it came out casue it was portable...She said
sirrius was better. And now. I canned the cable box in the bedroom.

Sat radio NOW is given away free with one or two years paid in new
cars...on units that can hold a ton of donwloaded music or music from
your cds or ipods. And play AM/FM.

SO I listened to Outlaw country radio this morning on the way in.

AM and FM radio and the ubiquity of iPods.

The article was published yesterday, but I, too, wondered about pay radio.
Never bought into it myself, and it looks like Howard Stern may be sorry he
made the switch._http://tinyurl.com/a457d9_ (http://tinyurl.com/a457d9)

But in the same article is this: Even though Sirius XM is one of the very
few media companies whose revenue and number of subscribers are growing these
days, a dime and a nickel will get you a share of the company's stock (with
some change left over). [52 week change = minus 95 %]

I guess Wharton is referring to the public's continuing appetite for pay
services, not whether an individual company has made wise decisions.

I always opted for at least one premium TV and one On Demand package; then
added NetFlix early on, 3 at a time for approx $18/month. Then, oddly, was
able to get unlimited On Demand from Netflix by adding the Roku gizmo for less
money, $9/month (less than the price of admission at most theaters).
Now Roku offers Amazon's OD with more companies to follow

So some media companies with smartz have been able to thrive in a fast
changing technology environment. As a media consumer, I knew Netflix would
thrive
when I saw the 60 minutes segment in 2006. _http://tinyurl.com/2ch4ve_
(http://tinyurl.com/2ch4ve)

Back then he was already gearing up for streaming directly to TV, not PCs.
But what impressed me most was his understanding that customer service was
paramount. NetFlix stopped hiding their contact numbers and went to 24/7/365
live phone reps. Amazon has a similar system with almost immediate call backs
when you submit your phone number online.
