Re: [Assp-test] fixes in assp 2.4.2 build 14092

2014-04-04 Thread James Brown
Looks like it is still happening under Mac OS X:

Apr-04-14 01:01:11 [Worker_10001] Warning: got unexpected signal SEGV in
Worker_10001: package - main, file - sub main::BayesWordClean, line - 11!

ASSP version 2.4.2(14092)

I know what you are going to say about Perl versions! (I’m just too scared to
upgrade in case it breaks things!)

James.

 Hi all,

fixed in assp 2.4.2 build 14092:

 - an exception in an 'eval' closure caused a SEGV exception under certain
 conditions in Perl 5.12
  on some OS's (mostly nix)

IT IS recommended to use a still maintaint Perl version - at this time
 these are 5.16 and 5.18

All I can say is that I upgraded to 5.16 without too much hassle; as a
note, a good way to run such upgrades is running ASSP inside a
dedicated VM; in such a case you may just clone the VM, upgrade Perl
and the modules and once everything will be ok, update the corpus of
the new VM with the one from the live ASSP and then swap the VMs;
notice though that in my case I just upgraded the current ASSP Perl in
place w/o doing the above (the above is just a suggestion to help
running the upgrade in safe mode)

Re: [Assp-test] fixes in assp 2.4.2 build 14092

2014-04-04 Thread Thomas Eckardt
I see four choices for you:

1. upgrade perl - in case of nix I recommend to compile it (Perl 5.18.2)
from source with a given {prefix} - and to set the Perl-path for the assp
user to the given {prefix} folder
so, your system will use the old perl , assp will use the new one
To install perl under a custom 'prefix', just run Configure with e.g.
-Dprefix=/usr/local/perl-5.18.2/ (read the install instructions)
after installing Perl 5.18.2 this way - use CPAN to bring the
installation up to date and use the assp module installer to install the
required modules
This way you have both Perl versions available and you can switch back
in case of problems.
2. disable 'SignalLog'
3. ignore the warning
4. enable the rebuild debugging (create the file assp/rebuilddebug.txt) -
search for the timestamp in this file and remove the files processed at
this time
if this happens for reported files, maillog.txt will give you the
filename
