Mike,

Did you tried with make all instead of make linux26? That worked for me on
FC5.

On FC6, I have to reinstall everything and worked with make all.

I believe I noticed that I had upgraded the kernel, but not yet restarted.
I restarted, and I think that was all I had to do to get it running again.

Any chance that this is just a missing depmod run?

  depmod

Or maybe you installed the modules to an incorrect directory:

  uname -r
  find /lib/modules -name zaptel.ko

If so, it probably means you built it with incorrect kernel source /
configuration.

RE: [asterisk-users] Re: FW: zaptel 1.4.0 on Fedora Core 6 x86_64

2007-02-26 Thread Carlos Alperin
 Tzafrir all interested on it:

After tried another options as CentOS 4.4 Server that didn't work, since I
went back to hardware unstability as in FC4
I decide to retry FC6 x86_64.

After install it, I run yum update yum, then yum update, then yum install
kernel-devel.

Then yum install kernel-devel-xen.

This time I decide not to make the symlink to Linux26, since there was a lot
of different opinions about if you need it or not.

And then, I install zaptel-1.4.0 with ./configure, make menuselect, make
all, make install make config.

No more errors, it loads and works. Now I can start to play with the tdmoe
and res_snmp, wich I couldn't get the xxx of the menu.

Thanks, and I hope this time invested save someone else their time.

 Thanks,

Maybe it does not load because it was not built correctly. For building it
correctly you need to have these RPMs installed:

net-snmp-devel
newt-devel
lm_sensors-devel
bzip2-devel

Check in [EMAIL PROTECTED] and

Check with the people over there.

Ok,

I understand about the the wrong link, and I agree with that.

There are no kernel-devel-xen. I also tried with yum install
kernel-devel-xen and there was no match for that. But I found
That the right one is kernel-xen-devel, which I already finished installing.
I find out that there are no xen-headers or headers-xen.

I put a symlink on /usr/src to linux-2.6

  linux-2.6 - /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6xen/build

I'm going to try again to compile let you know.

obviously, the makefile used an incorrect kernel source tree to build your
systems. The package kernel-devel provides a partial kernel source tree
which is good enough for building modules (or at least: for building
Zaptel). However it seems that the wrong one was used in your case.

Does FC6 have a package of the sort of kernel-devel-xen ? Or is one of the
two kernel-devel packages listed above for you intended for the kenel-xen
you have?

Have you generatd the symlink
/lib/modules/kernel-xen-2.6.19-1.2911.fc6/build manually? It seems to point
to an incorrect kernel tree.

Well,

I tried with the xen-devel and same result.

I tried changing the symlink to linux-2.6 -
/lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6/build but that is incomplete since build
directory doesn't exists.

Also, I tried with no symlink and on each case:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] zaptel-1.4.0]# modprobe zaptel
FATAL: Error inserting zaptel

It looks like allways keeps going to fc6xen/misc directory.

Axel,

Thanks for your advice, but as I tried to found the real problem overpass
the search is just like close my eyes.

I'm trying to learn in order to not repeat same mistake twice. I don't know
how the rpm's are build, and I don't think that
You can apply on every kind of variation you can find. Also, there are
additional functions I going to add, that are directly related
To the full system, so I cannot drive this on blind packages.

Thanks a lot, but I'm going to search for the solution and find what mistake
I made.

2007-02-20 Thread Carlos Alperin
Ok, let 's go one at the time:

1. I didn't build any rpm. I just install zaptel, libpri asterisk 1.4

2. I can run asterisk, that is what I mean that everything goes OK, No
ERRORs on compilation. Asterisk works.
However, if I try to run zaptel/ztdummy, I cannot since modprobe zaptel
reports FATAL: Module zaptel not found.

3. I modified since I saw a couple of recommendations about this problems,
and several recommends to modified the ztdummy.c

4. Regarding the procedure: I did make clean, make menuselect, make, make
install make config.
First time I read about make all.

That's going to be my next try, and send the compilation output to a file.

Thanks,

community for the non-documented changes.

This is only to share experiences that can teach the rest, as I learn
reading all the e-mail with other people problem.

As I said, I updated the kernel and the recompile zaptel. Then, as in FC6
zaptel ztdummy modules are not longer there.

Error in modprobbe: FATAL: Module zaptel not found. On the compilation I
couldn't see any error. Now I 'm going to follow your suggestion and output
the compilation on a file to search errors.

The make all made the difference in FC5 with kernel 2.6.19-1.2288.fc5

RE: [asterisk-users] Re: FW: zaptel 1.4.0 on Fedora Core 6 x86_64

2007-02-20 Thread Carlos Alperin
Tzafrir,

You 'll going to love this one:

There was no /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6xen/misc, and of course nothing
as *.ko.

But there was a /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6/misc with all the *.ko
modules.

I finished to copy the misc directory to the fc6xen, but still running
modprobe zaptel
I get:
FATAL: Module zaptel not found.
And on modprobe ztdummy
FATAL: Module ztdummy not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for ztdummy

The /lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.fc6/misc has all the .ko files, including a
'xpp' and a wct4xxp directory

[EMAIL PROTECTED] misc]# ls
pciradio.ko wcfxo.kowctdm24xxp.ko wcusb.ko ztd-eth.ko ztdynamic.ko
tor2.ko wct1xxp.ko wctdm.ko xppztd-loc.ko
zttranscode.ko
torisa.kowct4xxp wcte11xp.kozaptel.ko ztdummy.ko

Something get twisted on the directories, or the make generated the fc6/misc
directory, and didn't take care of the
Fc6xen directory, on /lib/modules.

I ran into this same problem compiling ndiswrapper on my MacBook with FC6. I
uninstalled the old-time GCC and used yum to install gcc++3.3, I think it
was and then re-compiled. FC6 has some wierdness with compiling. Ask me how
fun it was getting everything working in my MacBook.

Get any Linux distribution. You can purchace a CD in just about

see to be the most popular to run Asterisk on. See those links for CD

Ooops! I wasn't very clear. I apologize. I've obtained a few older PCs.
It seems like they could be set up as VoIP boxes, and put out into the

available for purchase to put on these older PCs?

You can connect them by SIP or IAX, it depends on what kind of media you

2006-12-27 Thread Carlos Alperin
There was a new format_g729.so but there was no codec_g729a.so, so I put the
right one for the x86_64 kernel.

I choose that on the make menuselect already.

After your question, I saw in the messages the report that codec_g729a.so
was not able to load, so I moved out. No messages about g729 after stop
And reinitiate it.

I don't see the module on messages, and there is no translation between g729
and lin or slin.

Thanks for you overnight counseling.

2006-12-27 Thread Carlos Alperin
I got the same messages but as far as I can see my problems are still with
translation codec problems between g726aal2, g726 and g729.

The problem with the G729 is refered to registration, since I cannot see
anything on the CLI referred to my license, however the message says
that is there.

Also, I have video working h264 on SIP but not on IAX.

RE: [asterisk-users] Is ZTDUMMY still required with Asterisk 1.4?

Do you have a zap section on the CLI?

Just do ? And check if you have that. I have zaptel working on two machines
with wtc1xxp and ztdummy. The one with the card doesn't show zap section,
the other one with ztdummy does.

I thought that both should show the section on the CLI.

Is ztdummy still required with Asterisk 1.4 when no zaptel cards are
available to use for timing?

In all the beta releases I used to get a warning when Asterisk started up,
saying that no timing device was found. The warning seems to have gone away
with the full release of 1.4, which prompts the question...
Is it still required? Does 1.4 do something different for timing?

Is anybody else having problems with Asterisk 1.4.0 with the G.729 codec?

I am running on a Dual PIII-866 and have tried the i386, i586, i686 and
pentium3m (not in that order) versions of the module.

Whenever a call comes in that needs to be transcoded, there is no audio for
a couple of seconds then the call is dropped.

RE: [asterisk-users] Number forwarding and porting?

2006-12-26 Thread Carlos Alperin
This is obvious (However not an Asterisk question):

You need to ask your old cell provider to port the number to the new one.
Also, in the meantime you need to ask to forward the number to your new
number.

However, since there is nothing forced to him to do that, this is going to
happen if your old provider is willing to do that. There are a lot of
provider that can make your life
miserable when it start something like this moves. They not only hate to
loose you as a customer, they also hate to loose their numbers ( This is
because they believe that the did belongs to
them and not to the customer that pays for it).

Good Luck,

All:

(This time with a subject line!)

I am looking to move cell phone providers. I have acquired the new cell
phone and LOVE my new number but want to keep the old number as well. The
new provider only will allow me to use one number or the other. They will
port the old number if I want, but will keep my new number if I ask them to
port the old one.

Where can I go to get the old number ported from my old provider (the
account is still active) and have it forwarded on to my new number (for
cheap)?

RE: [asterisk-users] Asterisk 1.4.0 (release) and G.729

2006-12-26 Thread Carlos Alperin
No, I didn't said a new machine.

I have a license with 23 active channels for G.729 for testing purposes.

I only erase the old configuration before recompile it, since I was doing
tests with the beta-2 release where the license was working.

So, the only thing I didn't delete was the /licenses directory
(/var/lib/asterisk/licenses).

I'm using an AMD Athlon Dual 3800, so I'm using the 64 bits x86_64 code.

After finishing installing everything, however I put back the codec
formatxx.so files on /usr/lib/asterisk/modules
And then go the console, I don't see any reference to G.729 on the list.

And when I go to translation options I have no reference to any translation
going to or from G729.

Thanks

When you say new system, are you referring to a different computer?

Your license is bound to the machine (well the network cards/MAC
addresses) that it is registered to.

If you use them in a machine with a different network configuration (or
change the network configuration of the machine asterisk is running on), you
need to re-register.

You can do this by running the registration application again (can only be
changed once without speaking to digium).

The problem I'm having, the number of licenses show up correctly but as soon
as the codec is in use, there is no sound and the call drops.

The codecs I'm using are from:

ftp://ftp1.digium.com/pub/asterisk/g729/asterisk-1.4/32-bit/i686/codec_g729a
.so
  etc.

The module loads correctly (afaict) without reporting any errors and if you
query the number of licenses, it appears to work.

It's only when the codec is actually encoding/decoding a stream that things
go wrong.

Did someone knows what version of Linux is using on Asterisk Now?

[asterisk-users] Same issue, different way to ask.

2006-12-06 Thread Carlos Alperin
Since nobody answer my previous question (It looks like g.726 is a bad

One as ulaw and the other as G.729
Only one at the time if I define both as G729

No way to make calls between the two extensions if both are G726, or both
are G729
Or if one is G726 and the other is G729 or ulaw.

I allways get codec not match or invalid on the console.

Grandstream claims that they can handle two g729 calls at the time ( I never
was able to do this), and even when I change the rtp.c the G726 is not
working at all. (I 'm not sure but it looks like is more an
Asterisk problem, since the modification was made for Sipura boxes, but even
when other phones, after the 1.2.6 we have fast busy problems on those
devices with that code)

So at this point. if someone has any other experience that want to share
I'll appretiate it.

In the old asterisk use to have an exapmle of fiance calls, so if the system
knows the caller id of the caller and match, you allways get busy..

Try to get the example, but this is nothing to do with the kind of device
SIP or IAX or MGCP.

All,

Is there a way of rejecting a call using SIP in the Asterisk Dialplan?
Essentially, I want to look at the called number and if it matches something
I don't like I want to send back a SIP response which will not cause the
other end to 'hunt'. The response codes that will achieve this are:

401 Unauthorized
403 Forbidden

Is there a way of getting Asterisk to send back such a response in the dial
plan without answering a call?

Cheers,

Then the only way it is going to be to use an Asterisk box with a PRI card.
If you choose a dual one, you can install a Channel Bank on the second PRI
and feed the PBX with up to 23 Channels. I don't know how many channels do
you need on the PBX.

[asterisk-users] FW: G.726 on Asterisk 1.4.0

2006-12-06 Thread Carlos Alperin
This is what I found today googling on the Web, also I post it now in order
to save time to others:

 The G726-32 codec:

* It has been determined that previous versions of Asterisk used the wrong
codeword packing order for G726-32 data. This version supports both
available packing orders, and can transcode between them. It also now
selects the proper order when negotiating with a SIP peer based on the codec
name supplied in the SDP. However, there are existing devices that
improperly request one order and then use another; Sipura and Grandstream
ATAs are known to do this, and there may be others. To be able to continue
to use these devices with this version of Asterisk and the G726-32 codec, a
configuration parameter called 'g726nonstandard' has been added to sip.conf,
so that Asterisk can use the packing order expected by the device (even
though it requested a different order). In addition, the internal format
number for G726-32 has been changed, and the old number is now assigned to
AAL2-G726-32. The result of this is that this version of Asterisk will be
able to interoperate over IAX2 with older versions of Asterisk, as long as
this version is told to allow 'g726aal2' instead of 'g726' as the codec for
the call.

Now, I can complete a call but I have now audio yet. I believe that I need
to restore the original rtp.c and recompile it.

I hope this help someone else...

Today before to find the new information:

2006-12-06 Thread Carlos Alperin
I downloaded this two days ago from digium ftp.

It reports to be 1.4.0-beta2.

I also have the g726nonstandard=yes on the sip.conf file.

Now, do I need to modify or not the rtp.c that is on /main directory?

I already checked, I don't have audio on g726, with both ports on g729, and
with both ports on ilbc.

I have audio with one port in g729 and the other on ulaw, or both on ulaw.

I don't see any rtp traffic on the previous cases.

Thanks,

Make sure you are using the latest 1.4 branch, I already fixed a G726-32

Steve,

It seems like you don't have the full sources on your linux box.

Do you have a directory /usr/src/linux, which is a soft link to
/usr/src/kernel/2.6.18.-1.2849 ?

If not, or if the directory is empty means that you need to complete your
sources first.

I have this version of Zaptel running ok on 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5, but you can
see on your errors that linux/config.h says no such directory

I believe that we have the option to be a sub-group off of the glima network

They are a non-profit org for technology people in Michigan.
They are backed by Automation Alley and have resources if needed. (meeting

we would be able to post our meetings on their calendar.

$250/hr...I'm hoping to find something a little less than that.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Sip t38 gateway tests

2006-06-16 Thread Carlos Alperin
Andy,

Harry was looking for test T.38. Right now, I facing two options:

I have a 1.2.7.1 box connected to a PRI, with SpanDSP that never was able to
do more than Fax Detection. After that the line hang up on the Asterisk box.

I'm preparing a second box with 1.2.7.1 from SVN, and I have the patch for
T.38, but I couldn't get the procedure to patch the asterisk.

Also, on a different PRI, I have a Cisco 3640 almost finished to work as a
T.38 gateway. The problem is that I couldn't get the way to bypass Asterisk
to make an ATA register with the 3640. If I need to use Asterisk, and the
passthrough doesn't work, nothing is going to work. Now, If I can get
passthorugh working, may be in the short future I'll not going to need the
Cisco anymore.

Also, I have a couple of Sipura 2100 ready with T.38 software for the test.

Yes, if you 're interested, we can start the test as soon as I ultimate the
details.

How did you patch the 1.2.4? I mean the full procedure.

Harry is in France, I'm in Michigan USA, where are you located?

The documentation on the Cisco is always referred to the call manager. All

Is any way to get an configuration example of that?

I know that we cannot send the T.38 through the Asterisk, that is I'm trying
to avoid that, but there is no way to register the Sipura 2100 on the Cisco.
It's not a Gatekeeper or a VoIP Server.

However there is 1.2.7.1 patch for the T.38 passthrough, I didn't tried yet.

How do you send that SIP REFER to the Cisco?

exten = 555,3,Meetme,500|xApMs|1234

/var/spool/asterisk/outgoing/)
exten = 556,2,Meetme,500|xApMs|1234
exten = 556,3,Hangup

the 1-test file looks like this:
Channel: ZAP/4/phonenumbergoeshere
Callerid: 1
MaxRetries: 1
RetryTime: 60
WaitTime: 30
Context: from-internal-custom

When I disconnect all users that dialed ext 555
the zap channel is still on

I am using tribox asterisk.

Make the VOIP users 'marked' users in MeetMe, and then also use the option

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Strange Zaptel issue

2006-06-15 Thread Carlos Alperin
Before to do anything else, upgrade your FC5. It is known issues with older
FC5 versions where zaptel doesn't create a device. I suffer that on the
past.

Just run yum update, then start everything again.

By the way, if you finish with make config after make install, it is going
to install all that you need as a service. All that you have to do is modify
zaptel file on etc/sysconfig to load the device that you use.

Check what is the content of /lib/modules/2.6.15-1.2054-FC5/build?

If it is empty, then you need to do yum install kernel-devel again.

the one that you're checking.

A 'make install' still complains with:

RE: [Asterisk-Users] cdr translation

2006-01-17 Thread Carlos Alperin

Did someone made or implement an script to
move all the info from the standar cdr format to a PostgreSQL or MySQL?

Were going to start moving all the
last two years of cdr soon, and really I never take this point on my schedules.

Thanks,

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] asterisk
down because of cdr

Hello,

After 2 weeks and 4 days without a problem, Asterisk went
down.

What happened is that I am using Asterisk 1.2.1 on a machine
and have a MySQL for CDR on another machine.

The machine with MySQL went down and the Asterisk box was
unable to connect to MySQL. This made Asterisk to go down and it was unable to
restart until MySQL was back.

I know that Asterisk displays a lot of warnings, but still
works, when the cdr table is corrupt. But isn't it a strange behaviour to go
down when MySQL is down?

Thank you

Dov

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Problem with installation of rpm's, Please help me.

2006-01-17 Thread Carlos Alperin
As you can see on your link, the reference on the voip-info web site is for
Centos 4.1

I recommend you to compile asterisk instead of running the rpm install. That
is going to give you a more accurate idea of what is going on with the
modules that you need to be able to run asterisk.

All that you get are errors that seems to be loops, you cannot need asterisk
1.0.9 to install asterisk 1.0.9, something has to be hiding the real
problem.

Carlos Alperin

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Problem with installation of rpm's, Please help
me.

Hi All,

I am a newbie and trying to install Asterisk from instructions given in
http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+RPM. We have Centos
3.3 so
I downloaded rpm's from
ftp://ftp.linuxsys.com/pub/LSE/packages/CentOS-3.4/asterisk-1.0.9/ and tried
installing one by one but I get the following errors

error: Failed dependencies:
asterisk = v1.0.9 is needed by asterisk-libpri-v1.0.9-4.RHEL3.LSE

error: Failed dependencies:
asterisk = v1.0.9 is needed by asterisk-addons-v1.0.9-4.RHEL3.LSE

Under Centos ftp 3.4 we have 6 rpm's and I was unable to install any of
them. In
the installation guidelines we have names of few rpm's but those names
exactly
do match the rpm's under centos 3.4.

Later I tried rpm's under Fedora at
ftp://ftp.linuxsys.com/pub/LSE/packages/Fedora/asterisk-1.0.9/

When I tried to install asterisk-libpri-v1.2.0-1.FC1.LSE.i386.rpm I get a
similar error message

error: Failed dependencies:
asterisk = v1.2.0 is needed by asterisk-libpri-v1.2.0-1.FC1.LSE

Am I missing any package that should be pre installed before all of these
packages? Please help me to know where I am going wrong and install Asterisk
successfully.

Thanks,
Manoj.

Here's what I did:

To create a CDR table:

create table cdr (
accountcode varchar (30) NOT NULL,
src varchar(64),
dst varchar(64),
dcontext varchar(32),
clid varchar(32),
channel varchar(32),
dstchannel varchar(32),
lastapp varchar(32),
lastdata varchar(64),
calldate timestamp NOT NULL,
callpickup timestamp ,
callhangup timestamp ,
duration int(8) unsigned default NULL,
billsec int(8) unsigned default NULL,
status varchar(32),
userfield varchar(128),
PRIMARY KEY (accountcode)
);

To update the CDR table from the Master.csv file

cat /var/log/asterisk/cdr-csv/Master.csv | \
egrep -v '^,' | \
sed 's/,,/,,/;s/\(^.*$\)/REPLACE INTO cdr VALUES\(\1\);/' | \
mysql -u root your_db_name

Cheers,
Jean-Michel.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] loading zaptel drivers automatically upon reboot

2006-01-17 Thread Carlos Alperin
Yes,

I did exactly that, but when I boot zaptel doesn't load wct1xxp. Then
asterisk dies with error code 1.

But if I stop the service zaptel, and start it again, then zaptel loads
wct1xxp, and everything works fine.

Then as I said, I don't get why zaptel doesn't load wct1xxp when boots.

I have always just used make config..

then edit /etc/sysconfig/zaptel to comment out the modules that i dont need.

That's easy to test: before you restart zaptel, look at /proc/zaptel .
if /proc/zaptel exists, zaptel was loaded . if /proc/zaptel/1 exists and
reports those 24 channels, then wct1xxp has loaded and identified your
 card.

Another possible reason: make sure that the zaptel init.d script runs
before the asterisk one. It needs to have a lower start number. Use
'chkconfig --list asterisk' and 'chkconfig --list zaptel' to verify
 that.

Then, that is the reason for Asterisk to fail loading.

However I change the MODULES RMODULES on the zaptel on /etc/init.d
 /etc/sysconfig, it continuous same way.

Just add another init.d script. See the skeleton in /etc/init.d (there's

Ok,

We got it.

I stop asterisk, then I reboot the machine.

However the lsmod reports zaptel loaded, there is no file at all on

How to change priority on the process. Do I need to define a custom pid?

If I don't load before modprobe wctxxp doesn't work properly.

Any way to fix this?

On Redhat / Centos / Fedora I usualy do :

cd zaptel ; make config
cd ../asterisk ; make config

chkconfig zaptel on
chkconfig asterisk on

At boot, it will start zaptel then asterisk.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Re: loading zaptel drivers automaticallyuponreboot

2006-01-14 Thread Carlos Alperin
This was too fast.

It works the first time.

After I did the make config for asterisk, especting to load it as module
(But before removing the modules that I don't use = everyone but wct1xxp)
It failed to load both wct1xxp and asterisk. Only zaptel, and at least 20
times the mpg123 ( due to all the times that asterisk tried to reload).

However after the make config, I run service asterisk start it worked.

Any ideas???

As you can see, everything goes fine. If I run this at boot, the problem
that I can see on /var/log/asterisk/messages is that the module wct1xxp and
wcusb are not loaded when asterisk is already loaded, then it dies with code
1, and so on

Asterisk is not waiting (or not gave zaptel or wct1xxp) to the previous
module to finish loading. And that it looks that makes impossible wct1xxp to
load, just zaptel loads but not wct1xxp nor wcusb.

There is any prevention in order to make asterisk load after zaptel finish?

Thanks,

After install everything on the supposedly right place, my conclusion is
that zaptel doesn't load wct1xxp module.

Then, that is the reason for Asterisk to fail loading.

However I change the MODULES RMODULES on the zaptel on /etc/init.d
/etc/sysconfig, it continuous same way.

rc.local is run after the standard init.d scripts. Thus if you load

late.

Just add another init.d script. See the skeleton in /etc/init.d (there's
a README there IIRC).

[Asterisk-Users] Bizarre ( probably dummest) question

2006-01-13 Thread Carlos Alperin
Hi,

I believe that this should be for Steve Underwood, but just in case some
else can shoot me too.

After trying to make the fax work during long time, and due to new
modifications on our system, I would like to ask: Spandsp it is supposed to
work same way if we have a TDMoE link between the asterisk box and the PRI?

We 're going to split functions, so we can create a bank of PRI, and a
cluster for databases on Realtime Voicemail. So, Asterisk is going to be
running without the overhead of the PRI.

Thanks,

Carlos Alperin

Hi,

Just installed Asterisk 1.2 on a brand new clean machine running
RedHat 9.0. I have a TDM400 card inside. When I boot, the card seems
dead. When I do:

modprobe wctdm
modprobe Zaptel

Since you use Redhat, From zaptel src directory, do a make config, it
will create init.d and sysconfig file for zaptel.

You will be able to control zaptel using chkconfig and service (service
zaptel stop/start). Same thing for Asterisk. (make config).

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Pri Gateway Hardware

2006-01-11 Thread Carlos Alperin
As far as I know, you define the interface to TDMoE when you choose the
zaptel driver to work with. One of the options is Zaptel over Ethernet.
After that everything belongs to a PtP Ethernet connection between the box
with the TDMoE the Interface to T1, FXO or what ever you has and your
asterisk box. So, echo cancellation has to be taken care on both sides.

Regards,

Carlos

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Failover Device?

2006-01-11 Thread Carlos Alperin
Do you need failover on wich side? PRI or Asterisk? Both?

Straight to the last option:

PRI: the best if you have more than one PRI is to do hunt on the provider
side, so when one is full or down, all calls are going to be directed to the
second one.

Asterisk: Do redundancy, so you need to have a second Asterisk box ready for
failover, taken all the traffic of the first one in such case. You can do
Hearthbeat, or DNS handling for this. I never try to run asterisk in a
Cluster, that can be a third option.

Any experience on that direction???

Regards,

Carlos

First,
Something seems to be wrong with the list. I'm not the only person
who has expressed seeing their messages either arrive late, or not at
all.

With that out of the way..

Is anyone aware of any type of failover device for PRI on asterisk?
I've found the ISDNGuard, however it is currently not made in the
U.S., nor does it run on U.S. power.

Is anyone aware of a device that will detect (heartbeat?) if Asterisk
is running, and if not, failover to a backup server?

Low level requeriment, just you transfer everything using level 2. So you
don't need to the overhead to have Asterisk running to route that traffic.

All that you need is at least two boxes:

1 is going to be the PRI Asterisk box, which
interfaces with the outside world. Also has to be able to communicate via SIP
or IAX with the second box.

2 is the real Asterisk pbx with all the extensions,
and the pbx features. Also has to be able to communicate via SIP or IAX with the
first box.

Done.

Yes, We do that on that way.

But doesn't mean that you cannot split the PRI on one box, and do the ipbx

direction in order to backup get redundancy on pri's, ipbx, and other

You donot need multiple asterisk boxes for a single t1. A single p4
box should be helpful, you can use digiums te110p pci card for a
single pri line into the box. The same box could also be on another
network dealing with SIP.

Hi,
I am running the latest version of asterisk. (1.2.1) When the
machine is first started, asterisk runs great and there is no echo.
As asterisk is running for a few days (2 weeks or so) echo begins to
become more and more noticeable.

The echo is noticeable to both parties (both sides of the call) at
different times. A reboot of the machine clears the echo for a few
weeks.

Any thoughts on what is going on and/or how to fix?

Two RJ45 plugs and a length of Cat3 cable (two pairs). Pins 12 on the

As far as I know, if the second server has only sip, it is going to be

save bandwith. Your total bandwith always it is going to be 0 kbps.

OK,

From a provider: How do you think that you
re going to build your connection to the Outside pstn world? Do you have
a regular telephone line, or you are gong to connect yourself to a carrier through

This is your first point.

You have already an Asterisk box, I assume
from your non good experience. How is that box setup?

How many lines to the outside world are you
going to have?

This is for start to think about your needs.
