I have the IP600 and like it a lot. However, I really LOVE the Aastra 480i CT. It supports more lines than the ip600, has a backlit LCD, and the cordless handset is GREAT! You can essentially treat the base and handset as 2 separate phones. It's not quite that way as they are the same SIP ID phone so some inter-phone things like transfer is odd, but other than that, it's a really nice phone. And don't get sucked into the a base can support 4 or 10 handsets, as the system can only support 2 active calls or something like that. You can have 7 calls holding but only 2 active (off-hook) channels at the same time. Clarify that, but I was originally going to get 1 base and 4 handsets and after talking to Aastra I realized I needed 3 bases with their 3 handsets. And Aastra seems to be actively supporting it, in the 6 months or so I've had them there have been 2 significant firmware upgrades. Make sure you put 1.4 on the phones if that's not where they are out of the box. Yes, the functionality is as described. You can only have two simultaneous calls. I have no problem with interference with my WLAN. I have two APs (one G type, another B type) and the Aastra phone. I also have a Panasonic 2.4 Ghz wireless phone nearby. I only have one so I cannot comment on their interaction when multiples are at one site. I tried the Hitachi WIP-5000 before buying the 480i CT. It was a major dissappointment. Then for a while I used a Panasonic cordless phone and an ATA. The Aastra 480i CT beats both of those setups without question. You can provision the phone from TFTP/FTP/HTTP server, including uploading an XML based contact directory. It registers with multiple servers. The cordless handset provides sufficient volume, a proble I found with the WIP-5000, and supports a headset. You can even mark contacts as "public" and sync them from the base to the cordless. Did I mention the backlit screen?! This is one of the major flaws in many phones. Working in a dim office (as I prefer) the backlit screen makes a huge difference. If you only have one or two phones you'll find that making the config settings on the phone is WAY easier with the 480 than any Polycom phone. With the Polycom phones just about any significant change forces an immediate reboot. You can sit through 20 reboot cycles getting one configured without a config server. I still keep a few Polycom 500/600s around...but the 480 is the phone that sits on my desk. To be honest I most typically use the cordless handset with a headset plugged into it. That way can can get up and walk away from my desk when on long conference calls and tech support marathons. I think that the criticism of the two call limit on the 480 is really unwarranted. It's similar or even less money than an IP600/601. It as good in almost every way, and the cordless capability opens up a whole new realm of flexibility. Don't think of it as a bunch of extensions...think of it as one extension that can go portable when required. You can answer or place a call on the base, then pass it to the cordless without needing to park it at the server. You can conference the base, portable and two lines. It's really pretty incredible. In all of the phones I've tried (about a dozen different models overt two years) this is the one that really stands out. It sucked in so many other ways that I was happy to sell off. The other thing to consider is range and coverage. The Hitachi WIP-5000 worked well withint about 15m of my APs...then became seriously unreliable. The 480 cordless unit I've tested to approx 90m away from my desk before the call quality drops. I suspect that the corldess unit is not unlike a normal 2.4 Ghz digital cordles phone as when its call quality suffers it over distance it manifests in analog noise and choppiness...not a dropped call like a wifi handset. Screen looks prettier due to better resolution :-) Screen resolution, number of lines, and poe is the only differences that I know of. I was under the impression that the speakerphone, handset, etc are of all the same quality. They are also used for the speeddial assignment. Plus, the 601 can use the expansion module. It was nice that our "attendant console" was the same phone as everyone else so that if we had a failure it was easy to swap since it was not unique.
