The freeze-ups were due to a NetGear NIC card. Haven't had a freeze
since I removed that card.

I'm running RH9 and it locks up on every kernel that I've used since
before 9.0 came out. For me it's been the thing you have to live with

Steven,

You know me well enough to know that I am not defending RedHat :) We have
had random system lockups on our Mandrake 9.1 / TE410P system over the past
couple of weeks - since this Dual PIII sever was put on line. We have not
had anything jump out at us as a probable cause.

Tilghman asked if we should put our prior server back in service and I told
him no because we had already sold the T400P out of it :/

Memo to Digium, some of us are pining for another run of T400Ps

Re: [Asterisk-Users] System freeze

2004-02-09 Thread Mark Spencer
Currently in progress of trying to debug similar
problem on my own system. Sometimes it happened
during call transfers, but this last time,
it happened all by itself at 4:00 AM, no calls even
close. Complete system Freeze, Nothing at all
 workings, except the reset button.

You setup is vastly different from mine to.
Dual Pentium III SMP, X100P Dual TDM400P

We have a tracking bug, 963, for the system crash. Things which seem to
be most commonly associated with a system freeze:

SMP
MMX
MeetMe
eepro100 or e1000 ethernet

I've been working with alexz on the SMP + MeetMe issues and believe we may
be nearing some closure there. However on systems with more than one
card, I also have a potential fix which would essentially force
zt_receive() and zt_transmit() to only be called for a single span at a
time using the same bigzaplock that prevents you from changing
conferencing during the major conferencing chunk of code (as well as
opening/closing channels). If you have a problem like this, please try to
follow bug 963 and try to get at the heart of what causes it.

Remember that for there to be any valuable information in the backtrace,
you will have to take the results of the panic and feed them into
ksymoops. Thanks!

Mark

I had two system freezes this weekend, first time. I just setup Musiconhold. The
kernel panic referenced mpg123. I turned off musiconhold until I could look into
it more.

Just a data point for you Mark, My main phone switch has dual eepro100s
in it and hasn't experienced a freeze.
System specs.
SuperMicro 5011e (I think)
Asterisk ver. 10-22-03 up 6 weeks 1 day
Kernel 2.4.20(stock kernel.org version) up 104 days PIII option.
No MMX in zaptel, nor kernel. No meetme on machine.

We haven't had a system lock up yet at least.

Again, please post your comments *on the tracking bug* number 963, at
bugs.digium.com. Please include whether you have SMP, MMX, Meetme, etc.
and if possible attach the ksymoops to the tracking bug. Also might be
helpful to indicate if you see the problem occur w/ or w/out SMP, MMX,
etc.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] System freeze

2004-02-09 Thread Michael Welter
Today I had five system freezes. After re-examining the log file I see
the following line precedes each freeze:

Got event 2 (Ring/Answered)

However, I also get this same message numerous times without a freeze.
Many are followed by Unable to create channel of type Zap.

This is a single processor Athlon system with two T100P cards. As far
as I know, there were no calls in progress when the system froze. There
has been no meetme activity. There shouldn't have been any inbound call
activity on the new T1 (the TNs haven't been ported yet)--inbound calls
use the POTS lines, outbound the new T1 circuit. Each T100P has a
separate IRQ.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Mike

I have a Gigabyte K7 motherboard with an Athlon 2400+ processor. Before
the T1 install I had two T100P cards, one for the channel bank and the
other unused. This ran perfect for a month.

Last week we installed a new integrated T1 into the unused T100P (to
replace POTS lines and DSL.) In BIOS, I disabled some unused
peripherals so that each T100P would find its own unique IRQ.

I also installed the updated asterisk, libpri, and zaptel sources.

I have seen two system freezes--one on Friday and one this morning. The
whole system freezes--no LAN, no phones, no console. During this
morning's freeze there were no calls in progress. The logs say nothing.

Has anyone else seen this? I suspect it isn't an asterisk problem, but
I would appreciate feedback.

Thanks,
Mike
