Re: [asterisk-users] new install: no re-invite and unwanted transcoding

2014-05-14 Thread Eric Wieling
Inband audio, such as ringing, busy, intercept, silence, etc require
transcoding. We solved the issue on our Asterisk installs by purchasing a
hardware transcoding card (for G729, but the card supports several codecs in
hardware. In my experience transcoding happens, accept it and move forward.

I can't help on the first issue, but for the second have you tried doing
Set(${SIP_CODEC}=ulaw) before dialing the trunk? I'm in a similar situation
where we have g722 internally but our trunk provider only offers ulaw so I see
g722->slin->ulaw transcoding. I'm thinking of trying it here (on 1.8.14.1) to
troubleshoot our occasional outbound issues.

[asterisk-users] new install: no re-invite and unwanted transcoding

2014-05-12 Thread Stewart Nelson
I am unable to get re-invite to work on a new system. Also, unwanted
transcoding is occurring on PSTN calls.

The new system (FreePBX 2.11.0.37, Asterisk 11.9.0, CentOS 6.5) will
eventually replace an old system (FreePBX 2.8.1, Asterisk 1.8.7.2,
CentOS 5.8) currently in production. Both systems are on VPS with public
IP addresses. Goals for the new system include: HD (g722) connections on
internal calls, Asterisk only proxies audio when necessary, no unwanted
transcoding.

For initial testing, I've set up two Yealink T26P extensions and one
Localphone trunk. Internal and external calls work, except for the
problems above. The extensions are behind a NAT, but are set up with
STUN, unique SIP and RTP ports, and proper forwarding. The router
handles hairpin connections properly. When registered to the old system,
calls between the test extensions re-invite correctly. On the new
system, no re-invites are attempted and I see nothing logged to indicate
why. Re-invite also fails on inbound and outbound trunk calls, and on
trunk-to-trunk calls (tested by setting follow-me to an external number).

The extensions are coded with:
Asterisk Dial Options: r
canreinvite: Yes
nat: No - RFC3581
disallow: all
allow: g722&ulaw&alaw
Recording Options (all): Never

The trunk (both PEER and USER Details) has:
canreinvite=yes

In Advanced Settings -> Device Settings I have:
SIP canrenivite (directmedia): Yes

In Asterisk SIP Settings I have:
NAT: No
IP Configuration: Public IP
Codecs: ulaw, alaw
Reinvite Behavior: Yes

Other settings are defaults, except for a non-standard bindport.

An entry from sip_additional.conf, as generated by FreePBX:

[1001]
deny=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
disallow=all
secret=password
dtmfmode=rfc2833
canreinvite=yes
context=from-internal
host=dynamic
trustrpid=yes
sendrpid=pai
type=friend
nat=no
port=5060
qualify=yes
qualifyfreq=60
transport=udp
avpf=no
icesupport=no
encryption=no
callgroup=
pickupgroup=
allow=g722
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw
dial=SIP/1001
mailbox=1001@device
permit=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
callerid=John Doe <1001>
callcounter=yes
faxdetect=no
cc_monitor_policy=generic

The dial command produced by FreePBX also looks reasonable:
  -- Executing [s@macro-dial-one:43] Dial("SIP/1002-007e",
"SIP/1001,,rI") in new stack

A second issue is that on outbound PSTN calls, Asterisk is accepting the
phone's first-preference codec (g722), speaking ulaw on the trunk side
and transcoding, resulting in degraded quality. Incoming calls escape
this problem; Asterisk offers ulaw/g722/alaw, the phone accepts the
first (ulaw) and no transcoding occurs. How can I tell Asterisk to
prefer ulaw over g722, when it would otherwise need to transcode? (The
transcoding issue also affects the old system, but I gave up debugging
it and just disabled g722 on the phones.)

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

Stewart

[asterisk-users] New Install using DAHDI

2008-09-04 Thread Joseph L. Casale
I am about to setup a new Asterisk box which only uses SIP.
I used to simply use menuselect with Zaptel and choose the tools
that Asterisk required to exist and ztdummy.

Now with Dahdi, I am reading
http://svn.digium.com/view/dahdi/tools/tags/2.0.0-rc2/UPGRADE.txt?view=co
and I understand I no longer can use menuselect as everything gets built.

Everything looks pretty trivial except the echo canceller portion.
I have never configured this on my SIP only systems without any
physical hardware (no digium cards) so can what should be my
strategy for running dahdi_cfg tool in this scenario where I
have a few SIP did's coming in with several SIP phones on the inside?

Thanks!

The short answer is that if you're not using the AA50 as a router you
cannot use the LAN ports on the AA50. You'll have to connect your
phone to a LAN port on your switch. As Rob mentioned, you'll need to
configure the Grandstream manually.

Also, if your SBS server or your router is providing DHCP be sure to
turn off DHCP on the AA50.

My suggestion is you implement sbs2003 the correct way with a 2 nic
solution.

Yes a 1 nic installation is possible but you lose all the benefits.

Tell whoever set it up to tear it down and implement it properly.

Then I use 1 port on the router which is linked to the asterisk appliance.

but as Rob hillis said.

It will work via WAN which ive now got. SO I can access the asterisk
appliance via 192.168.1.15

The problem is now.How do I connect the phone.

Ive got the phone (Ethernet) connected from the LAN port on the phone to a

im using the grandstream 2020.

The Asterisk appliance has it's place. Once you understand the
restrictions and/or design limitations, it does it's job just fine.
After a few teething problems, it ran just fine. Certainly for future
installs where there are a few PSTN lines, I'll be considering the
Asterisk appliance for the job.

Yes, I like the flexibility of modifying the dialplan directly, but for
smaller installs something like the Asterisk Appliance fits just fine
and isn't as much overkill of a full Asterisk install on a half-decent
server. Problem is that the middle ground - Asterisk on a desktop
machine - isn't something I'd recommend to /anyone/. The appliance
should handle up to 20 extensions without too much problem (I know they
say it'll do up to 50, but with the embedded processor it has, I find
that hard to believe) and for anything beyond that, it's worthwhile
dropping an extra few hundred for a decent low-end server.

Re: [asterisk-users] new install of asterisk appliance.

2008-07-02 Thread Rob Hillis

This thread makes me glad that I've avoided the Asterisk Appliance and
Asterisk GUI. I have a similar installation using Astlinux and had not
trouble defeating the router function. With Lonnie Abelbeck's revised
web interface it's a pleasrue to configure.

Re: [asterisk-users] new install of asterisk appliance.

2008-07-02 Thread Rob Hillis
Yeah, it's a real pain in the proverbial.

Short version is that if you're not planning on using the LAN interface
for phones then you need to enable provisioning on the WAN interface,
allow access to the web interface from the WAN interface and configure
the provisioning URL with your WAN interface's IP address.

You /will/ need to use the WAN interface in order to be able to access
the appliance from any subnet other than the one you're directly
connected to since you can't set a default gateway that's on the LAN
interface (/don't/ try and configure the LAN and WAN interfaces to be
part of the same network - that's a guaranteed way to get the appliance
upset with you!)

I spent a good few hours on my first appliance tearing my hair out
trying to work this one through! To make it easy on yourself, wherever
possible /always/ keep phones on the LAN interface - but that LAN
interface needs to be separate from your production LAN unless you're
planning on using the Asterisk appliance as your router.

Ok so as you describe it you are only using 1 nic card in your sbs2003

But you have two devices connected to it? Care to explain?

Hi All,

Ive just purchased an asterisk appliance. (AA50)

ive connected the AA50 to my pc directly via Ethernet and logged in via
192.168.169.1 and I can log in fine.

But then when I go into the asterisk gui > network to change the
settings to get it on our LAN im having trouble.

It just won't connect via the ip address ive assigned it of 192.168.1.15

Im on a windows network. (sbs2003 server)

The changes Ive made in asterisk are as follows.

(Under lan)
IP = 192.168.1.15
DNS = 192.168.1.1
IP start range = 192.168.1.15
END range = 192.168.1.150

Im assuming that I have to change this info so I can access it via the
network, rather than to have it connected to my pc all of the time.

What am I doing wrong?

Regards
Davey.

The Asterisk appliance is a but naughty - is really like the idea of
handling DHCP on it's lan ports (and having the phones on them) and
hooking up the WAN port to your local network.

I have heard you can get around this, but it's a bit of work. (no

Netcomm is directly connected to the server via server network card.

ive now got it up and running. I changed the WAN info in asterisk appliance,
not the LAN info.

Now the phone wont get connected. Ive added an ip directly into phone with
correct settings.

but when I access it via web browser it doesn't come up.

Should I be able to access it.

Hi All,

Ive just purchased an asterisk appliance. (AA50)

ive connected the AA50 to my pc directly via Ethernet and logged in via
192.168.169.1 and I can log in fine.

But then when I go into the asterisk gui > network to change the settings to
get it on our LAN im having trouble.

It just won't connect via the ip address ive assigned it of 192.168.1.15

Im on a windows network. (sbs2003 server)

The changes Ive made in asterisk are as follows.

(Under lan)
IP = 192.168.1.15
DNS = 192.168.1.1
IP start range = 192.168.1.15
END range = 192.168.1.150

Im assuming that I have to change this info so I can access it via the
network, rather than to have it connected to my pc all of the time.

What am I doing wrong?

Davey.

First, can you ping 192.168.1.15 from the LAN, not your PC?

Shut down the appliance and try to ping 192.168.1.15, if you get
replies, then you have an IP conflict.

When you changed your network settings on the appliance, did you
restart the box? I am not sure if this unit makes netchanges on the
fly.

Can you get root on the box (of course you can), just hand edit your
ethX config.

BUT, first, I would call the vendor, in this case Digium. I am sure
they can help you.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro

2008-07-02 Thread Dean Collins
Hi Davey,

Just confirming that 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.150 is your existing lan
range correct?

(and not a new address range that you didn't configure properly in
sbs2003 - also I'm assuming you are using Isa2004 as well correct?)

Cheers,

Dean

Subject: [asterisk-users] new install of asterisk appliance.

(Under lan)
IP = 192.168.1.15
DNS = 192.168.1.1
IP start range = 192.168.1.15
END range = 192.168.1.150

Im assuming that I have to change this info so I can access it via the
network, rather than to have it connected to my pc all of the time.

What am I doing wrong?

Regards
Davey.

With the 2.6 kernel, you can just load ztdummy and not worry about the USB
controller.

[Asterisk-Users] new install

2005-04-15 Thread Michael Di Martino

I am
attempting my fist asterisk install.
I do not
have any digum cards so use ztdummy.
However
according to the Asterisk install guide it says to look for one of the

following
USB controller chips.
UHCI USB
controller of OHCI USB Controller.

However,
when I run lsmod to determine which have neither show up.
Can I
continue the install and if I do will I have timing issues?

Well, that's the least verbose email message I've seen this week.

Can you put more precision ? like what version of asterisk, the exact
message you got on the CLI
