Michael Hi Michael, I just saw your topic on -dev (which is not appropriate there) and it reminded me to write a reply to this post (i've marked it for reply anyway :). The directions at voip-info.org are originally written by me, i spent lot of hours searching mailing lists etc to get at least something working. So, the question is - how far did you get with this. With this setup you should be able to do: Hylafax = T38modem = Asterisk = T38modem = Hylafax. That would be a verification for setup, that you should have everything working. Then you would want to test it with switch of SIP provider to see if it understands T38modem (as in quoted diagram). Unfortunately i didn't manage to get T38modem to understand switch of our provider, so i quickly tested with callweaver, and ended up with: PSTN = T.38 SIP provider = Internet = Asterisk = Callweaver = custom scripts = Hylafax. In my setup everything is located on the same machine and Callweaver runs smoothly together with asterisk on different ports. You should be able to do the same as Callweaver does with Asterisk 1.6 (if you're not bound to 1.4 setup) Recently i also posted some rough configuration sample of my setup on http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-users/2008-November/222531.html Please mind, that if you're trying T38modem, you should get versions exactly as specified in voip-info.org, otherwise they might not work with Opal (which adds SIP protocol, as T38modem was originally for H.323) Regards, Atis -- Atis Lezdins, VoIP Project Manager / Developer, IQ Labs Inc, a...@iq-labs.net Skype: atis.lezdins Cell Phone: +371 28806004 Cell Phone: +1 800 7300689 Work phone: +1 800 7502835 ___ -- Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com -- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

On the subject of faxing - is there a way to interface Asterisk and Hylafax running on the same box? I have tried the directions at- http://www.voipinfo.org/wiki/view/T38modem+configuration+with+Asterisk and I just can't get it to work. Does anyone know of a way? (Even mention paid software)... Re: [asterisk-users] Asterisk / Hylafax
For some odd reason the call registration issue doesn't seem to stop it working, except a few seconds after Hylafax answers the call it hangs up, I suspect because Asterisk only supports T38 pass through. Here is my data path PSTN = T.38 aware SIP provider = Internet = My machine (Asterisk) = IAX modem on localhost = Hylafax. While I am aware from being on the Hylafax mailing list that IAX does work, no one there has been able to advise of a way it can be done with a SIP upline provider. I think people generally use it for ISDN PRI = Asterisk = IAX modem = Hylafax setups. Now Call Weaver apparently does have some better fax capabilities though I can't find any info on how to integrate it with Hylafax. Does anyone know how it can be done with Call Weaver and/or if there is any 3rd party software to enable what I am after? Re: [asterisk-users] Asterisk+HylaFAX+SpanDSP+IAXmodem tutorial.
Michael J. Liberatore wrote: Alex, I thought asterisk 1.4 supports faxing internally now without the need for extra software? Is your solution a different one? I have no experience with faxing yet but plan to soon, that's why I ask and will read your blog entry. You need extra software, whether you use Asterisk 1.2 or 1.4, and its the same software in each case. You either add spandsp, and a couple of very simple interface apps -rxfax and txfax - directly into Asterisk, or you use spandsp/iaxmodem/hylafax+ over an IAX link. The former has issues, if you use G.729, as spandsp is GPL software. Using a program over an IAX limit gets around that. It is possible to use hylafax or efax with iaxmodem, but most people use hylafax+ Steve ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation Provided by http://www.api-digital.com-- asterisk-users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk/Hylafax = Receive/Send faxes
I have hylafax attached to a Sipura ATA, and just have Asterisk route calls to the fax DID to that ATA. I wouldn't recommend doing this as it is highly unreliable and only about 50-60% of the faxes actually finish. As far as I know, you can't route faxes to hylafax within the same box, however Asterisk does have some fax functions, with spandsp which works similar to hylafax's faxgetty. -- Tom On 7/18/05, Jian Hong GUAN [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Can you tell me how to configure Hylafax + Asterisk in order to be able to receive/send faxes. Jian Hong GUAN wrote: Can you tell me how to configure Hylafax + Asterisk in order to be able to receive/send faxes. If you have an incoming T1/E1 line: telco -- T1/E1 -- TE405P/TE410P -- Asterisk -- TE405P/TE410P (another port) -- T1/E1 fax modem -- HylaFAX or: telco -- T1/E1 -- TE405P/TE410P -- Asterisk -- TE405P/TE410P (another port) -- channel bank -- analog fax modem -- HylaFAX If you don't have an incoming T1/E1 line (you've just got analog lines coming in) then just get yourself another analog line for your analog fax modem and bypass Asterisk altogether. Look up the archives for TDM and fax to get a synopsis as to why you don't want to run fax through Asterisk on analog channels. (http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+and+faxes) Is somebody can help me to deploy both on the same machine (Asterisk is already running...impressive ;-) ) Don't know if it still applies, anyway here it is. I have * and hylafax running on the same machine. One extension is reserved for fax, the others are voice. I just configured chan_capi to manage all voice extensions, and capi4hylafax on the fax extension. Everything is fine, the capi layer isolates all those applications. couic -- Rémi aka hobbes ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
