 Suggestions ?

 Yup,

 YaJHFC http://www.yajhfc.de/ --- Hylafax --- t38modem ---
 BeroFix http://www.beronet.com/product/berofix-gateways/ --- ISDN32

 By the way, which t38modem did you use ?
 On my debian system, version 1.2 is packaged and I wonder if it's
 worth the effort to use lastest 2.0 version.

We use the 1.2.0-1 version on a debian system.

 No Asterisk in this case but it does work excelent. With the
 YaJHFC software you get a Windows/Linux/OSX printer driver.
 The BeroFix could be replaced with Asterisk but I do not have
 tested this.

 Michel.

Not being familiar with WinFax, we currently use Winprint HylaFAX: It
creates a fax printer under Windows that allows printing directly to
HylaFAX+

My iaxmodems are configured as such:

[macro-faxreceive]

;
; * Pass the fax call to iaxmodem/HylaFAX+
;

exten = s,1,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem.com01/${ARG1})
exten = s,n,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem.com02/${ARG1})
exten = s,n,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem.com03/${ARG1})
exten = s,n,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem.com04/${ARG1})

I have 23 of them. I can specify what modem to use if I wanted, by the
dial command. You need to send a call to modem 4, then dial:

exten = s,n,Dial(IAX2/iaxmodem.com04/${ARG1})

This is assuming that you've configured your iax config file to mimic
the above.  Mine looks like:

cat iax*

[iaxmodem.template](!)
type=friend
host=dynamic
trunk=no
allowcallerid=yes
disallow=all
allow=slinear
secret=some.password
qualify=no
trunk=no
context=faxes

[iaxmodem.com01](iaxmodem.template) ; Software modem COM1

[iaxmodem.com02](iaxmodem.template) ; Software modem COM2

[iaxmodem.com03](iaxmodem.template) ; Software modem COM3

Thank you for your response Doug,

how/where to join the mailling list (as this is the only one I have

I have 2 physical Fax machines connected to the GXW and people will be
sending faxes old fation from thembut instead of having an analog line
direct out, I have the PBX which does the actual deliveryso, I still
need to have diferent customised numbers when faxing out from each one of
them.

I have configured the (ttyIAX) modems with the specific valuesI was
hoping I could choose which one to use for each of the sip clients (defined

 Why would you need to choose a specific modem? I believe everything can
 be set from the command line, when generating your fax. Granted, I
 haven't read the complete thread.

 If you have specific HylaFAX+ or iaxmodem questions, it'd probably be
 better to move this thread to either of those lists.

Hi Michael,

I just saw your topic on -dev (which is not appropriate there) and it
reminded me to write a reply to this post (i've marked it for reply
anyway :).

The directions at voip-info.org are originally written by me, i spent
lot of hours searching mailing lists etc to get at least something
working. So, the question is - how far did you get with this. With
this setup you should be able to do:

Hylafax = T38modem = Asterisk = T38modem = Hylafax.

That would be a verification for setup, that you should have
everything working.

Then you would want to test it with switch of SIP provider to see if
it understands T38modem (as in quoted diagram).

Unfortunately i didn't manage to get T38modem to understand switch of
our provider, so i quickly tested with callweaver, and ended up with:

PSTN = T.38 SIP provider = Internet = Asterisk = Callweaver =
custom scripts = Hylafax.

In my setup everything is located on the same machine and Callweaver
runs smoothly together with asterisk on different ports. You should be
able to do the same as Callweaver does with Asterisk 1.6 (if you're
not bound to 1.4 setup)

Recently i also posted some rough configuration sample of my setup on
http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-users/2008-November/222531.html

Please mind, that if you're trying T38modem, you should get versions
exactly as specified in voip-info.org, otherwise they might not work
with Opal (which adds SIP protocol, as T38modem was originally for
H.323)

Regards,
Atis

1. Do I need T.38 between Asterisk and Hylafax as I am using T.38 over SIP to

2. If this is workable, does using IAX to SIP cause extra CPU load / loss /

2008-12-13 Thread Michael
For some odd reason the call registration issue doesn't seem to stop it
working, except a few seconds after Hylafax answers the call it hangs up, I
suspect because Asterisk only supports T38 pass through.

Here is my data path

PSTN = T.38 aware SIP provider = Internet = My machine (Asterisk) = IAX
modem on localhost = Hylafax.

While I am aware from being on the Hylafax mailing list that IAX does work, no
one there has been able to advise of a way it can be done with a SIP upline
provider. I think people generally use it for ISDN PRI = Asterisk = IAX
modem = Hylafax setups.

Now Call Weaver apparently does have some better fax capabilities though I
can't find any info on how to integrate it with Hylafax.

Does anyone know how it can be done with Call Weaver and/or if there is any
3rd party software to enable what I am after?

First of all, thank you for sharing your experiences on how you setup

I am currently trying to figure out on how to setup an inter-Asterisk
faxing on my local test bed. Once this will be proven reliable, this
will soon be setup to connect two Asterisk v1.4.x PBX over the
Internet. Basically, I want the users on both ends to send and receive
fax the way it was using a regular analog fax machine. The users don't
need to know that they are faxing over the Internet. The diagram of
what I want to accomplish is illustrated below.

  + IAX2 +

As you can see, the two regular fax machines are connected to the FXS
port of the Digium TDM400 Dev Kit for each Asterisk v1.4.x PBX and
these two PBX are connected via IAX2. My questions are the following:

[1] Do I still need HylaFax for this kind of setup?
[2] How will I configure the Asterisk configuration files (iax.conf,
zapata.conf and extensions.conf) in such a way that /dev/ttyIAX is
actually the Zap/4?

Any advice you can share on how I can properly accomplish my
objective? I am attaching my Asterisk v1.4.13 configuration files for
your reference on what I'm doing on my local test bed.

Thank you in advance.

Not entirely. :-) Your deployment involved a lot more FreePBX than I
would have liked, not to mention some unsolicited WorldComputingGrid
clients.

I mostly just tried to take all the information already out there on the
voip-wiki, etc., follow it, and then sum it up more coherently.

2007-11-23 Thread Steve Totaro
No functional FreePBX, I just used the ISO for a quick linux install and
World Community Grid is a better benchmark than bogomips.

Neither of which have any bearing on how I setup Hylafax and Asterisk,
otherwise, great job of reverse engineering what I did and documenting
it as your own development, ideas, and deployment, lol.

I also like the way you blind carbon copy customers on private emails
between two consultants.

Maybe a howto on passive recording is to follow or did you not reverse
engineer my work on that one yet?

Re: [asterisk-users] Asterisk+HylaFAX+SpanDSP+IAXmodem tutorial.

2007-11-23 Thread Steve Totaro
Why would anyone hate the most stable version of Asterisk?

What is ABE using these days? If it is not 1.4, I wonder why? Maybe so
all the free developers and eager and silly early adopters can iron out
the bugs, submit patches and sign away their rights. I am sure if they
are not using 1.4 it probably has something to do with reliability and
the costs of supporting that release. Any other theories?

 From the readme http://www.digium.com/en/docs/ABE/README they have not
progressed very far past 1.2.9.1

Release Notes
~
Asterisk Business Edition B.1-1
 -- Added numerous bug fixes from 1.2.9.1, including chan_agent update
 -- Updated Lumenvox Speech Recognition Software
 -- Added new tarballs for Cepstral-David Text-To-Speech Engine

 Asterisk 1.4 does have this ability natively. However, it is somewhat
 limited in its flexibility / in terms of what I can do with it, and
 I have gotten reports that HylaFAX works better. I haven't actually
 done a comparison between the two.

 Being someone who hates 1.2, I was strongly tempted to go this route,
 though.

You need extra software, whether you use Asterisk 1.2 or 1.4, and its
the same software in each case. You either add spandsp, and a couple of
very simple interface apps -rxfax and txfax - directly into Asterisk, or
you use spandsp/iaxmodem/hylafax+ over an IAX link. The former has
issues, if you use G.729, as spandsp is GPL software. Using a program
over an IAX limit gets around that.

It is possible to use hylafax or efax with iaxmodem, but most people use
hylafax+

This is when you need to use the iaxmodem record feature (see the
README file or http://iaxmodem.sourceforge.net/howto.php) to make
recordings of the call and to examine the iax recording to see why it
thinks that there is no fax signalling from the receiver.

Or... you just send those recordings to me (the *.raw files that appear
in /tmp/).

Thanks,

Lee.

Re: [Asterisk-Users] Asterisk/Hylafax = Receive/Send faxes

2005-07-18 Thread Tom Hayden
I have hylafax attached to a Sipura ATA, and just have Asterisk route
calls to the fax DID to that ATA. I wouldn't recommend doing this as
it is highly unreliable and only about 50-60% of the faxes actually
finish.

As far as I know, you can't route faxes to hylafax within the same
box, however Asterisk does have some fax functions, with spandsp which
works similar to hylafax's faxgetty.

If you have an incoming T1/E1 line:

telco -- T1/E1 -- TE405P/TE410P -- Asterisk -- TE405P/TE410P
(another port) -- T1/E1 fax modem -- HylaFAX

or:

telco -- T1/E1 -- TE405P/TE410P -- Asterisk -- TE405P/TE410P
(another port) -- channel bank -- analog fax modem -- HylaFAX

If you don't have an incoming T1/E1 line (you've just got analog lines
coming in) then just get yourself another analog line for your analog
fax modem and bypass Asterisk altogether. Look up the archives for
TDM and fax to get a synopsis as to why you don't want to run fax
through Asterisk on analog channels.

Don't know if it still applies, anyway here it is.

I have * and hylafax running on the same machine. One extension is
reserved for fax, the others are voice. I just configured chan_capi to
manage all voice extensions, and capi4hylafax on the fax extension.

Everything is fine, the capi layer isolates all those applications.
