Please double-check. I could not figure things from uhort.no, and
podsafeaudio.com seemed partially down, but at least the one artist I
did look at there licensed his work under the terms of CC-NC (actually
version 2.0 of it) - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.0/

Any Non-Commercial member of the CC family will not allow you a usage in
a cemmercial PBX. I'm not sure about any setup that is "non-commercial",
as using a file for MoH may be considered public performance[1]. Surely
you may be able to renogetiate other terms directly with the artist. But
then you don't rely on the existing license.

If you have content licensed under the terms of a CC license that does
not prevent non-commercial use (CC-BY-SA or whatever), you should
probably be OK[1].

There was another issue raied in a separate post: what if the author
changes their mind later? Well, the CC licenses are irrivocable (just
like the GPL). Unless the music was not his to license (was copied from
elsewhere), you should be safe if you have it properly licensed.

[1] As already noted, I'm not a lawyer. I may actually get some legal
issues right. But then again, maybe not.

Other options include music-on-hold companies, that create and license you
their own music. One of the benefits of this route is that your company can
customize their hold music, add targeted messages, etc. I've had clients
that have chosen this path before and been very happy. The price is usually
pretty reasonable, too.

The answer is, as long as the music publisher for each piece of music has an
agreement with BMI to license their music, yes. You can verify each

Note that the current MoH files distributed with Asterisk are licensed
under the terms of CC-BY-SA 3.0[1] which has an explicit references to
such royaltiy rights.

Also note that I'm not a lawyer and this is not a legal advice.

The proper licensing authority in the United States for hold music is
BMI (Broadcast Music Inc). If you use music for MOH which is not royalty-
free, then BMI requires a payment for each trunk line per year which is
using such music. If you want to use for-royalty music, it is very
possible, but it will be a continual expense. Not paying the fees upfront
will cost you dearly in legal fees at the point at which you are caught
(it's really only a matter of time).

http://www.bmi.com/licensing/entry/534929

For future reference, I now work for a company which gets paid with fees
generated by the music business (including MOH), so fair warning: if you
announce that you're illegally evading such royalties (note that the use of
royalty-free music, as is distributed with Asterisk, is perfectly legal),
you may get a visit from the BMI enforcement division shortly thereafter.

Since you specified a relative path ('does not start with a slash'),
Asterisk will prefix (by default) '/var/lib/asterisk/sounds/' to your
path yielding:

/var/lib/asterisk/sounds/home/abejide/Desktop/a.*

is this what you want?

Depends on the country, and what licence you posses. Googling '
hold music regulations' may help.

[asterisk-users] On-Hold Music

2011-02-11 Thread Danny Nicholas
Hi gang,

In 500 words or less (if possible), please explain what is a
legal music-on-hold file? My boss hates the stuff provided with the
distribution and I figure that I'm asking for trouble if I take my Les Mis
tracks and run them through Audacity and SOX to make new files.

Thanks in advance

Danny Nicholas

2005-01-18 Thread C F
Make sure you have:
1. a timer sourece
2. mpg123
3. the caller is actualy on hold, or you are using Dial(,m.)
4. musiconhold.conf is setup correctly.
It would also help if you give us the CLI output. Does it show
anything about started/stopped music on hold?

This may sound kind of crazy and I maybe missing something. But are you
placing the call on hold so you can hear the hold music. This may not
be the case but you may have to place the call on hold to here the
music.

Also you mentioned sound, you do not need a sound card in the asterisk
box to use this hold music feature.

Hope this helps.

I think from memory the correct version is 0.59r

Also, I think Redhat has simply made a symlink to mpg321 (which is *not*

You don't need any sound card for musing on hold to work.
Loot at this webpage it will guide you:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+config+musiconhold.conf

uncomment in musiconhold.conf one of the line:
[classes]
;default => quietmp3:/var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3
loud => mp3:/var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3
;random => quietmp3:/var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3,-z

specify in you extension.conf what you want to play, example:
[office-open]
exten => s,1,Wait(2)
exten => s,2,Answer()
exten => s,3,SetMusicOnHold(loud)

I'm confuse because I was able to install on a shit machine and everything
works fine even though It was not necessary installing such "timer" what you
just mentioned. NOW that I just installed it on a better machine "Celeron

music on hold. Is there anything I've forgot during installation and
configuration. I'm running Red hat 8.0 as recommended with X100P Card.

Do you have Zaptel cards installed? You need to have a timer installed
(whatever that means). If you don’t have a zaptel card, then use ztdummy to
fake one.

You need to download and compile the zaptel drivers (from asterisk website).
Edit the makefile and find the line:

TZOBJS=zonedata.lo tonezone.lo
LIBTONEZONE=libtonezone.so.1.0
MODULES=zaptel tor2 torisa wcusb wcfxo wcfxs \
ztdynamic ztd-eth wct1xxp wct4xxp wcte11xp # ztdummy
#MODULES+=wcfxsusb

Then remove the “#” before ztdummy

Type Make All
Type Make Install

Add a line to load the module ztdummy on boot using the /etc/rc.d files
The command is modprobe ztdummy

You can specify a directory full of mp3's that * will pass to mpg123 to
play in random order.

No need to string them together.

Just put them in the MP3 directory and it will play them one by one, taht's
all i have done.

My largest MP3 plays for 20 minutes.

Can I ask an addendum question to this.

How large can the mp3 file be? I haven't played with this yet but
wondering if I can connect about 20-30 mp3's together so my people on
hold don't hear the same music very often.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

Rather than have my hold music play from a sound file I'd like to have a
live feed from a sound card input or MP3 stream. Is this doable and if
so
how?
