RE: [Asterisk-Users] Buzzing on TDM400P FXS?

2004-04-05 Thread Brian Cuthie

Haven't seen this, but I do hear a loud click about 5 seconds into any call
involving a TDM400P port. Seems like something might not be quite right with
the Zap driver.

 Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Buzzing on TDM400P FXS?

 I have an intermittent problem with the one FXS line that I
 have. On most calls, the first ~5 seconds of the call has a
 loud buzzing noise on the line. After 5 seconds or so, it
 fades off to nothing, and the sound quality is great.
 Searching for buzzing on the list doesn't give a whole lot
 to work with. The buzzing happens on calls that are routed
 over both my FXO line and IAX to NuFone, so I'm pretty sure
 that it's happening on the FXS end.

 Here's that chunk of zapata.conf:

   context=inside-analog
   signalling=fxo_ks
   callwaiting=yes
   callwaitingcallerid=yes
   cancallforward=yes
   callreturn=yes
   threewaycalling=yes
   transfer=yes
   echocancel=yes
   echocancelwhenbridged=yes
   relaxdtmf=yes
   rxgain=1.5
   txgain=0
   immediate=no
   musiconhold=yes
   usecallerid=yes
   callerid=Analog Phone 2201
   mailbox=2201
   channel = 2

 Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking?

 Scott

2004-04-05 Thread Ryan Courtnage
I had slightly different problems - but the resolutions might help you:

I had a problem with an intermittent loud buzzing on my X100P (heard
when accessing PSTN from my SIP and Zap clients). The problem went
away when I physically moved the card down a PCI slot (further away
from my TDM400P and my power supply).

I also had an additional problem with jittery/choppy sound when
receiving calls from PSTN on SIP devices. This was due to my X100P
sharing interrupts with other devices (e.g. NIC).

Cheers

Had a similar problem

What kind of phone are you using on that line?

My case, the line was sharing a Palm modem on it.
Electrical noise from the power strip was causing the
problem.

Also when My cell phone was too close to the phone,
same problem

Also found the VMWI logic was not working well with
the PALM modem and took the mailbox off that line

You know, I never really considered that it could be noise on the line;
 I just assumed that it was an issue with the zap drivers and hardware.
 Unfortunately, I only have one FXS port at home, and that makes it
hard to debug audio problems. Fortunately, UPS dropped a Cisco 7940G
off this afternoon, so I'll have a second high-quality audio device to
play with, and that should make it a lot easier to fix.

I'm having a similar problem. The difference was that if I reloaded
the zaptel drivers the buzzing went away. It seems like the card got
into a strange state. It might be the system though, because I have
another box that hasn't experienced this problem. The x101p's don't
have very good filtering. When I had a gig-E card in one box is was
causing a lot of faint bleeping or buzzing. Taking out the card helped
a lot, but I still get some odd sounds. I wonder if these can be
filtered out using a software bandpass filter since the remote site
doesn't hear anything.
