2006-01-09 Thread Carlos Alperin

All that you need is at least two boxes:

1 is going to be the PRI Asterisk box, which
interfaces with the outside world. Also has to be able to communicate via SIP
or IAX with the second box.

2 is the real Asterisk pbx with all the extensions,
and the pbx features. Also has to be able to communicate via SIP or IAX with the
first box.

Done.

You donot need multiple asterisk boxes for a single t1. A single p4
box should be helpful, you can use digiums te110p pci card for a
single pri line into the box. The same box could also be on another
network dealing with SIP.

Yes, We do that on that way.

But doesn't mean that you cannot split the PRI on one box, and do the ipbx
on the other one. Actually, we 're splitting our infrastructure on that
direction in order to backup & get redundancy on pri's, ipbx, and other
funcionallity boxes.

TDMoE is stable and stale, There is no more development planed or needed as it
only opens up a pipe between two ethernet points using Layer 2.

Low level requeriment, just you transfer everything using level 2. So you
don't need to the overhead to have Asterisk running to route that traffic.

TDMoE should allow for simpler firmware as it allows Asterisk to handle
all of the details and just handles transferring the TDM data and
failover in case of Asterisk server failure.

It's about the same price as a TE411P and doesn't take a slot in your
server(s).

RE: [Asterisk-Users] Pri Gateway Hardware

2006-01-11 Thread Carlos Alperin
As far as I know, you define the interface to TDMoE when you choose the
zaptel driver to work with. One of the options is Zaptel over Ethernet.
After that everything belongs to a PtP Ethernet connection between the box
with the TDMoE & the Interface to T1, FXO or what ever you has and your
asterisk box. So, echo cancellation has to be taken care on both sides.

Carlos
