Re: [Astlinux-users] Updated documentation

2009-03-02 Thread Martin Rogers
Hi Darrick

thanks for the links. Can you comment on DAHDI support in 0.6.3? I
understand that it wraps Asterisk 1.4.23 so it providing it is compiled
in it should be available.

If it is supported in 0.6.3, is there anything specific I need to do at
the Astlinux level to enable it for TDM cards. For example is the
ZAPMODS variable still in force.

Thanks
regards
Mart

Hi Darrick,

I have all the same files that were there in /mnt/kd/asterisk.. I have not
deleted anything at all. What was strange is that it worked right upto the
point where I applied your solution to get the TDM card to work at boot up
and since the Asterisk web gui does not work anymore.

several
reboots and powerup to make sure and it works perfect, now waiting for a
solution why my Asterisk GUI is not coming up at all.

What files do you have in /mnt/kd/asterisk/ ? Did you delete any of
those files?

I have a clean install (new system) that works just fine.

There may be some problems with the asterisk-gui which is why we don't
include a direct link to that from the web interface. Feel free to use
it, but don't be surprised if things break. Someone on the list is
working on a possible fix which may help out and would be included in a

We're using the net5501 target for the alix until an alix specific image

I have successfully used the Geni-586 image with the 1d and its built in
vga port along with the keyboard/mouse splitter/adapter to a usb port
sold by them

I thought I made a post to that effect the other day.

I didn't make the CF on the Alix, but installed one I made elsewhere
into it.

This was an earlier 0.5 version, but I assume any should work.
I generally am not impressed with the 1d though.
Between the shipping from the manufacturer, the rather poor vga
resolution, and the fact that, for some reason I can't boot Damn Small
Linux from a USB, I think the HP thin clients are a better buy if bought
properly off eBay

Just my opinion, of course. Worth what you paid for it.

[Astlinux-users] Install 0.6.3 from iso/CD

2009-03-02 Thread Graham S. Jarvis
Hello all,

I've been running 0.4.4 on an old Pentium4 PC for so long without
problems that I'm really not inclined to change but I have a bit of
spare time so I thought I'd give 0.6.3 a try . . . .

Here's what I did:
- 'took the astlinux-0.6.3-geni586.iso and burned it to a CD
- put a 128Mb DOM in another old Pentium4 PC (who knows - it might run)
- put a 128Mb USB stick in the usb slot (note: the kd was genkd'd on
0.4.4 so it contains a rc.conf)
-put the CD in the drive and booted the default (astlinux live with usb
keydisk).

When it was up I logged in and ran astinstall

Once I hit OK the messages were displayed very quickly and when I
reboot without the CD the PC says there's no OS and I should put in a
diskette.
(I must say I would prefer a vanilla version of this install screen
rather than the menu interface which hides all the error messages).

I rebooted the CD and as far as I can see from /usr/sbin/astinstall once
the DOM has been sdisk'd the hda is 'populated' from /oldroot.
I had a look in /oldroot and it's empty.

Is there any reason why the install doesn't dd an image file to /dev/hda
rather than the tar and copy type?

I was expecting that a full install would happen and even overwrite the
old kd that it found.
I like the kd idea and I thought that it hadn't been scraped.

All help gratefully received!

-Graham S. Jarvis-

[Astlinux-users] How to create a user?

2009-03-02 Thread David Kerr
This is probably simple, but I couldn't find an answer through google. How
do I create a new user on astlinux. I want to enable anonymous FTP, right
now I can login to ftp only as root, but my reading of the ftpd manual
suggests that if I create an ftp user on the linux box then it will work
for anonymous. Or is there another way?

Thanks.

[Astlinux-users] Building the 0.6 Branch

2009-03-02 Thread Joe McNeely
Hi,

I'm having a tough time getting this to happen, so I'm hoping to get
some help. I have rev 2545 from the svn 0.6 branch. I tried to build
on a debian (etch) box, but it complains about the loop device. It
looked from the list archives like centos was in common use to build, so
I loaded up a box with centos 4.7. Still no joy. Both times I was just
trying to build from the oldconfig. Both download and build everything
OK (except net-snmp, which I got from another source - built fine).
Both seem to generate the .run files, etc. However, in neither case
does it make a usable disk.img - it just makes an empty one with dd,
which doesn't seem to get a proper filesystem (won't boot). The geni586
image from sourceforge works in the machine, so I guess I'm wondering
what the environment looks like that built it.

Can anyone give me a rundown of the build machine that you have used
successfully? It would be very helpful to know what packages you have, etc.

All help is greatly appreciated! The stock image is great, but I need
some things that are not there (a real touch command, chan_unistim,
chan_mobile).

Thanks so much,
Joe

Darrick, Thanks for the suggestion. It does indeed work, and in fact had
the device been connected when I booted astlinux, the boot process would

If I disconnect the USB disk/memory stick (after umount) and plug in another
different one, do I need to rerun dmesg again?
