wade machine handles all the syncing for you. You just load up the .mp3, and have the .srt in the same folder. the .srt has time codes that help control when the subtitles play, and wade machine reads those. It's like a subtitle thing on any other movie player, the only difference is that it pipes the subtitles through the screen reader instead of putting them on the screen. but it's totally automatic. just start the movie and enjoy. So with this system all someone'd have to do is make an srt file with audio description data rather than foreign language translations, and that is easily done (assuming you can see to describe a movie of course).

The term for what Google Glass does is augmented reality and it has a lot of exciting applications, unfortunately conveying that to us is rather more difficult especially without it compromising our ability to hear dangers in our surroundings. You could argue that a talking GPS is a form of augmented reality of course, though the current solutions either have no digital compass at all or don't align it to your physical facing which would be a very nice next step. It'd be expensive but adding a digital compass to some bone conduction headphones like the Aftershokz could be rather interesting since it could reliably tell which direction you're head is turned at least, even if not which way you're facing.Virtual reality is actually a lot simpler for us than sighted people, take some 5.1 headphones like the Roccat Cave I use and couple it with some kind of tracker for which way your head is facing. Not doing this can in sighted people lead to nausea so I ima
 gine it could do likewise with us, as well as just making things much easier. Combine this with some form of controller, be it a keyboard, trackball or gamepad and you've got the most basic elements. Adding in haptick feedback would be incredibly, incredibly useful though not technically necessary.

Steel reinforced concrete bunker in your basement with heavy steel door bolted with a ginormous steel bar from the inside and 24 hours worth of food and water. It'd give you a chance to catch up on your reading at least.Or buy a retired armoured vehicle from the army, they do actually sell those just with deactivated weapons, and seal yourself in. When I say deactivated weapons they apparently weld a steel rod down the barrel so it can't be used.

I have never gotten a post-game questionnaire, for one thing.For another, I'm having one hell of a time with Metallic difficulty, and I knew I was going to. Let's just say that the orb fight in the dungeon beneath the temple is utterly murderous. Those big stomping demons that grunt and take forever and a day to kill (I call them cyclops or giants usually) tend to spawn in pairs, and since they're all higher level, they hit for like 7-8% apiece. Killing them is no easy feat either, since the damn orb also spawns those monsters that shoot fire or whatever it is. Anyway, my issue is with the orb itself. I know you have to smack it into the pit, but I don't fully understand how to make it move. Sometimes it will, most of the time it just seems to block my sword-strikes when I'm hitting something else, all the while I'm being whomped on rather righteously. The very first hit into the pit is easy, but almost every other hit seems kind of random. I s
 wear, I can have the orb on my right, the pit on its right, can tap right-arrow, can then hit the attack button, and instead of going into the pit, the orb just moves southward, and usually I end up carrying myself into the damned hole. I really would like to know if there's a way to actually hit the orb reliably, because hitting it from every side sounds the same, and it only seems to move some of the time. If I could kill it faster, I could win the fight; as it stands, however, all the monsters it summons eventually overwhelm me, because they very very rarely drop health pickups.I had this problem on Impossible as well, but not quite so pronouncedly. I think I won that fight at 60 percent health. And on Metallic, I think the greatest number of hits I've landed on the orb is eight.

I want to go beyond the check-box sort of deal.Let's say that you're in a tower, and on the third floor you come across a locked door. You obtain the key, unlock the door and, lo and behold, there's a prisoner. Simply by going out of your way to have unlocked his room will be enough to get you whatever that particular side-quest entailed. If you did the dungeon without rescuing the prisoner and never came back, then let's say his wife, who's back in town, will always pine for him and will never help you (whereas releasing him causes her to react more favourably toward you).I do like that actions might sometimes change how people deal with you but I want to stay away from check boxes or simple radio buttons to select. I like the player having to go find stuff, or bring things to the right person, rather than just clicking a box after a "Will you rescue or kill the princess?" prompt.I am thinking that there are three villains, r
 eally. The main one starts out being angry and frightened, and by the end has simply become desperate to keep what he has at all costs. Not evil, per se, but letting him have his way is going to hurt a whole lot of people. The second villain is related to the first, and knows in her heart that what's going on is wrong, but can't find it in herself to take the right side. The third starts out quiet and fairly unknown, just helping the antagonist's cause, and then I think something's going to happen that sends this last villain rogue in a big way.

Hi Jayde.No I don't want the game to play like a gamebook either  I just meant that after something is completed you use checkboxes to decide what you do next sort of like playing a table-top game except there's no dice. Almost like playing silversword accept that game is still inaccessible. Also what I meant by good and evil is that you slowly become good or evil throughout the game depending on your choices. So maybe if you choose to kill another character just because they annoy you you might become slightly more evil. Or if you choose to side with one antagonist or another. But if you decide to help another character do something boaring like get them food it makes you good. This would also make the game more interesting since it will change how npcs react to the characters in your group. Choosing whether your good or evil at the beginning of the game would be pretty disappointing like you said it would really limit the story. It would also be nice i
 f the bosses had distinctive personalities. I've always wanted to make a really smug villain in a game if you've played mortal kombat 9 and seen Quan Chi and Shang Tsung in the story mode then you'll understand what I mean. One of those characters you love to hate. And I'm glad you don't have a problem doing without voice acting since we could make a game and add the voices later if that's what people want.

Ok I have just played this, it is a really cool fps particularly if you are a first time developer. The 2d aspect is an interesting take on an fps. One thing I notice is that it is very difficult to find people, maybe if the map was smaller it might help. Does the map remain constant? Or do the maps cycle through a list?

I'm not going to go into language preferences; my thoughts on this are very well recorded elsewhere.Cross-platform is hard.  Many good programmers including myself struggle with it.  There's a lot of systems (including Python) that say they're "cross-platform", but then you end up in the "if you don't use this feature, don't call that library, and don't make this other assumption about the system you're on" land.Pick one platform, whichever one is your primary.  Make a game for it.  I would posit that Mac is potentially a good choice from a technical perspective because if we had Core Audio everywhere else I'd not be doing Libaudioverse; Core Audio appears complex and not super well documented as far as I can tell.  XCode itself highlights every accessibility issue with the Mac, at least last I looked at it (I was, for about 2 months, going to do IOS development with Objective-c. 
  The slowness of getting things done with XCode stopped it).  I've heard rumors this might get better soon, but they're only rumors and definitely not substantial.The other thing that's big here is math and basic computer science, no matter how much you want to avoid them.  Anything remotely complex is going to require both.  If you don't know much trigonometry, there are certain types of games that are basically not doable.  Namely, Shades of Doom and any other FPS.  If you aren't comfortable implementing pathfinding, you need to find a system that already does it and stay well within its constraints (I am unfamiliar enough with BGT's implementation that I do not know what that specific one lets you do or not).  The pathfinding algorithms can be done in under 100 lines, but the motivation behind why it works is not the simplest thing ever.  The alternative is to give enemies fixed paths, but this won't let 
 them respond to changing environments like the player running away.  1d Side-scrollers are pretty easy and avoid all of this, but 2D side-scrollers like BK3 get a bit more complicated.  If you want any sort of real AI, you're headed for some non-newbie areas.  Top-down games (Shadow Rine) can be as simple or as complex as you want to make them.  I'd argue that a top-down might be easier than a side-scroller because you don't have to worry about gravity.  But really, as long as it's not an FPS, the difficulty is set by you and how much you want it to do, with the clarification that raising the bar above a certain point is like tripping on the edge of the deep end of your swimming pool while not knowing how to swim.I can barrage you with worthwhile terms to Google, but don't think that will help at this point.  Googling is your best friend as a programmer, especially Googling for Stack Overflow answers.  Really.

Hi Rory.No unfortunatley there aren't many mainstream games accept for skullgirls injustice and the smugglers games that have accessibility options. Resident evil 5 6 and darkside chronicles have an option where if you check your PDA to find out where you are supposed to go when you close the PDA you will turn in the correct direction. Resident evil 5 is for pc, xbox 360, and ps3 but resident evil 6 and darkside chronicles only has ps3 and xbox 360 versions at least for now. And the dead space games are only for xbox 360 and ps3. To navigate menus you will need sighted assistance. You should make a list of a game's various menus that way it's no problem navigating menus. Resident evil 4 and 5 have iOs versions but I checked them out a long time ago and they are completely inaccessible. I don't think there will be access changes to the iOs apps since they haven't been updated in quite a while.Hth.

Hi Everyone.Rofl aprone that was a good one. Well I didn't listen to this movie since it seemed like one of those goofie sci-fi b-movies but it is an interesting point. What on earth would we do if the purge was worldwide? Everywhere people would be getting killed or robbed or just about any crime you can imagine. And what happens the rest of the year when the purge isn't going on? Are crimes committed or are people just nice and polite to each other until the purge comes around again?If we did have a purge day that would pretty much be a serial killer's christmas since you just go out and kill all the people you want until the purge ends.

Complete does not mean bug-free. Just look at Jaws. Haha.Anyway, I do agree with one general point. While I do think whining about a lack of a demo, in theory, is bad form, I think charging for a beta whose details are scanty is equally dubious. By all means charge money for a product that's been well-tested or has more content, but if you want people to pay just to attempt to try your game, you may hurt yourself that way. I'm saying this as advice, not as a punch in the stomach. You don't want your player base thinking you're overreaching, and your one post, where you yanked the links and whatnot, seems a bit on the premature side.Look, here's what it comes down to. You're going to do things, and some will be right and some will be wrong. Hopefully you learn which is which, and I do wish you the best of luck.

A few things:1. I am not against something being screenreader-based. Voice-acting is secondary to me. If I can get voice-acting, great. If I can't, oh well.2. I am absolutely dead set on a turn-based RPG where battles are random, aka Final Fantasy. Perhaps for some optional bosses you will be able to approach them and be able to see that they're there, but generally I want it so that, barring fixed fights, you do not know what sort of encounter you'll get next, or exactly when. Some areas (outworld, dungeon, etc), will have random enemies. Some areas (cities, towns and houses) will be safe. Certain maps will have certain encounters (you won't get a wicked strong dragon rampaging around the first area of the game). This turn-based thing is one issue I really, really don't intend to change my mind about.3. Regarding a gamebook sort of thing...to some extent I want there to be choice, but I don't want the game to play like a gamebook. 
 There may be things you can do to make certain people like or not like you so much, and I fully intend for a few subquests to have mutually exclusive choices.4. The way my story is shaping up, being "evil", as such, would consist of just letting the villains continue to do what they're doing. There's really no game there. I understand what you're saying about good and evil, and perhaps there will be a few different endings with various degrees of quote-unquote good, but I feel like the more open you make a game, the more you make it like a sandbox. I'm not a total purist, but I do like a bit of honest-to-goodness driving force in an RPG; if you constantly let a player choose to be good or evil, it results in two soft options, while making them commit, to some degree at least, to the side of good means that you can focus a great deal on one side of the spectrum.5. That said, a few things from the villain's perspective are par for the cou

Hi Jayde.Well I myself am not a fan of turn-based systems but if it's really important to you how about something like alter aeon's combat system? For example you scan ahead and see an enemy you walk up to it and combat begins. Instead of just making your choices and then seeing what happens you will have to do something like type in the names of your attacks. Like kick, punch, cast spell etc. This way it's a little of both a action and turn based system. Then you just press a key to run away if your health is low and your close to dying or you win the fight.I know a lot of people on here like games with voice acting in them but what if the whole game were text-based? Of course it would still be an audio game but instead of having people acting when you talk to other characters or things like that it is all text-based. For example you can have a very long conversation with a character without spending all the money on high quality actors. Let me tell you
  this makes the game a lot cheaper to produce and it also makes it simpler to add more content because your not loading a whole lot of large media files at once which will slow down the game considerably.You also mentioned you wanted a main villain with a storyline. One of the things I've noticed authors of books like stephen king and brandon sanderson do is they have the main storyline and then throughout the main storyline they have interludes where you get to see things through the villains point of view. I think this would be really something interesting to put in an audiogame. So for example your playing through the game you finish a certain task and then the gameplay will stop and you will see the title screen interlude and apart of the bosses story. Maybe in each interlude you get a bit of information about the boss. The more you progress through the game the more interludes you read until you have all of the bosses story. So when you finish the last interlude prob
 ably soon after you'll have to fight the boss himself.And what  about having a gamebook like system in the game? Maybe you finish a level or quest and have to choose between several things you do next? Like maybe you finish a boss battle and then you have to choose between saving a princess or completing another objective. If you decide not to save the princess and do something else maybe she get's killed and you make an enemy out of the king. This way each choice you make will effect the storyline in some way so that each time you play the game it has a different outcome.And just one more thing. I don't know why this has never been in an audio game before but I think you should be able to choose whether your good or evil. This would make the game very complex.Sorry for the long post after I posted here the other day I started thinking about what would make a good rpg and a good game in general so let me know what you think.

I wasn't exactly aiming for that, however, making it subscription or payware at the actual time of release might be an idea, that's how I would do it. Just plan some kind of game mode or additional thing that makes peopel want to pay for it. making it freeware also means you can test what happens when masses of people connect to your server at once, since I did have exactly that problem with RTR at first and only was able to fix it later.

Hi,I had an idea that Iw was wondering what y'all think.So we have audio description for a limitted number of movies, and the reason is that they are so expensive to produce.  We have a program developped by our very own aprone, called wade machine.  It's job is to read subtitles while a movie is playing, and I find it works quite well.Would you all watch films, if a .srt (subtitle) file was made with descriptions?  You would use wade machine to play the descriptions and the movie at the same time.  the only difference is that they would be read by the screen reader.  any thoughts?

Hi all,I'm creating this topic because I've been looking at topics that I've found interesting on the surface, but ultimately become ramblings, arguments and such on computer science theory and applying this info to what languages carry out tasks better than others.Because of my limited knowledge of this stuff, which I'd probably need a few college courses to understand in detail, I'm creating this topic from one gamer to another who simply wants to sit down and create a game, but needs help with choosing the language.For me, idealy I want something where I can create audio games cross platform. iOS would be cool, but Mac and Windows for a start. I'd be interested in finding some PureBasic documentation that's newer than the 2003 docs I found online. Also, I'd love to have BGT-like docs for PB. That is to say, audiogame-specific docs, because I don't want to pay for PB unless I'm damn sure I can make a game, even 
 a small one.Heck, for Mac I want to create a flexible Youtube player, because MacTubes is not what I want in a youtube player. I want Youtube search, with youtube channel search, easy playlist viewing, etc.I wonder how easy this'd be to make in Swift, but I question the accessibility of XCode.Lol. At the end of the day I wish AudioGame Maker hadn't failed in a datacenter fire. And if I find another "Learn X language in 30 days" book I don't know what to do with myself. Those things amake me nervous as it puts my state of mind into some kind of panic if I can't learn Java in 30 days. I'm glad Philip didn't do that with BGT.

The reason that I am charging for the beta is simply because the beta is a completed project, but it may be unstable. If it wasn't complete, then I wouldn't have released it. I only call this beta because it may be unstable. And when I know 100 percent that it is stable, it will be released.

I agree with both sides here.It's very true that you don't get demos; I've talked to people who bought games that ended up being complete obominations; but though they were not very good games, they were complete versions.  That being said, however, the reason it might be nesesary for demoes for audio games is that with those, your purchase is pretty much final. Unless I'm ignorant to how audio game purchasing works, unlike what you can do with mainstreem video games, I don't believe you can simply take an audiogame back for a refund.I could be wrong, and please let me know if I am. But if my argument is true, then I could see the need for demos in audiogames.

Oh, and as for the director:Use one of your Embodiment scrolls (my choice is Embodiment of Power from Cecil or Embodiment of Selflessness from Shauna). That will do fairly good damage. On the next round, use a different scroll, because he's immune to your previous scroll. Do this even if you screw up a scroll, never use the same scroll twice in a row, ever.Do this, and you should win.

Uh...I don't think he's immune to Toxic Ball, but I could be mistaken.Regarding that Renzina demon fight, if you're not at level 100 and haven't spent a lot of coins on your characters, you're going to struggle. Also bear in mind that you should be strategic about it...get your active character below 100HP without it getting killed, and you can opt to switch it out. The most dangerous character to do this with is Kelly because her defense is so awful, but if you're careful you can still do it. The idea is to pelt her with scrolls till your character is at 100HP or lower (or one hit from dead), then switch out. You should be using Death Dimension with Kelly and Final Oblivion with Simon. Using Mass Slaughter with Cecil and Murder on Demand with Shauna wouldn't hurt either. Ross can stick to Destruction of the Heavens if you have trouble with Meteor Rush, and Gabriel can use whatever you're comfortable with. If you do this, you should b
 e able to win.Regarding Pierre, don't yank anyone from battle immediately. Even if Gabriel gets the call to use Aura Master, probably the weakest overall damage you can do to Pierre, that's still one round of small damage and one round on which your other characters are not being hurt.As far as galactic dusts go, Bryan, did you do the second floor of Tower of Fear? If not, go do that, then revisit all the save points.Regarding the Protector, I'm quite sure I'm right. The item in question is hidden though, so start mashing Enter when you hit the top wall and move from one side to the other. You'll find it.To be clear, I'm talking about the area where they said there was a cave-in.Regarding Final Shot: get your level up. Higher level means more HP and higher defense, which translates to more rounds to screw up. Don't worry, you'll figure it out.

Jade, if I came off sounding spoiled that wasn't my intention. although in this day and age, demos are actually very common. And as Key said, the games that we fork out money for are usually tested and complete. If you look at the page, you'll see that there's nothing to even hint at what the game is like. There's a features list and nothing more. Even the instructions and release notes don't say much. There's no trailer, no sampling of the game to go off of. that and the fact that it's in a public beta stage... and betas, if released to the public, are not usually paid.

but those games that you pay for are usually full, complete and well tested. This game is still in a beta stage. You can't charge for a product that still needs most of its features added. Microsoft doesn't charge for developer preview builds of windows; it charges for the completed product. However, sound Worx seems to be charging for an incomplete product here.

I'm quite frankly appalled at some of the attitudes I've seen in here. Have you any idea how spoiled many of you sound?When your average person buys a mainstream game, do you think they've had a demo? Hell no! Odds are quite good that they've seen screenshots, looked up reviews or otherwise have done their research to see if the game is worth playing, but most people fork over cash without having a playable demo.Don't get me wrong. I myself enjoy being able to play a game before buying it. But unlike many of you, I see this as a luxury, and not a right.I personally am wary when I know little about a game, and will almost always wait for other opinions first, but sometimes, if the description or related material tells me that a game will be worth playing, I'll just pounce.

I agree assault freak, that we shouldn't have to buy a game that's not complete. Probably it was unwise to release a public version of the game, as he does have a team of private testers. I'm not even sure why he did. Perhaps he is just that desperate for money? If so, that is not the wisest way to get it. I do advise, however, that no one buys the game until he releases either a single player demo version with bots, as this game is pv based, or he declares the game as complete and stable.

Hi Guys.Good news I'm working on a guide for dmpa and it's almost finished. Once I complete it I will post it in the articles room.@Vlad25, it's like a simple simon game make sure you get the clicking tones correctly then press enter. If you did it correctly you will hear a sound and you can open the door.@Danny, at some point in the future can you replace the hacking clicks with beeps or something like that? Because it's really hard to pick out the different tones of the clicks since they sound exactly the same.

I've read the story and it is also awesome.    Suggestions:Can you add in a way for us to alocate the attribute points manually when leveling?I really loved how the beetles can go away from weapon reach, but do you plan to add ranged weapons in the future?It can be cool if you add affects like poison, freeze, stunned, confused and such.In addition to different affects you may consider add different kinds of damage. Like fire, cold, lightning, earth, piercing, slashing, crushing... I know it will take time, but will allow a broad range of fighting styles and planning.I'm not sure if you intend to add in the monk class in the future. editI need to make the status menu better. Out of combat, it will probably display the numbers as well as parts that are about to be mangled and parts that are. In combat, the numbers should be replaced by the text.edit 3Yep, I forgot to allow you to be able to wear boots. That was my screwup.

Well, those aren't really manageable at this point unless you press random buttons and get them right... fortunately, the QTE doesn't have that much of an effect on you. Story mode is very beatable even if you miss them.

hello, there is a qte in the game which someone I know has a problem with and he is also blind. It's the thing where the joker throws knives at you and you need to avoid them by pressing sertain keys. the problem is the knife sound is always the same and the key to press isn't read to you. how do you manage qtes like that?
