Hi.I just need to write this post quickly, and then follow up on the other posts later today.@Wightfall: I don't like to say this, and please, don't take this personal.You need to understand my instructions on how to update the translation file. If you don't understand the instructions and you can't get someone from Thailand who is better at english to explain to you what to do, then I can't use you as the translator. I really hate to say this, but that's the trooth.I'm not sure on what you have done with the file, but there are two issues: 1: The file doesn't know what language you are translating the strings into. 2: You have not translated the new strings but only the old strings. That means if your file is implemented in the game at the moment, the new strings will still be in english. In other words: Your file is useless, and you can't use this to update the translations in the future.The issue is that
  you are not asking me for any help. I can update the file with the new strings for you if needed, but if I have to do that with every language file, then it's going to require a lot of work. Therefore I have written some instructions on how to do it, and I don't know how to improve those instructions. So please tell me, do you need any help?

Some sad news to report

It is with a heav heart that I must report te passing of Thomas Ward, one of our longtime audio game developers. Tomas passed away on February 8th in an Ohio hospital following a brief illness. Asidefrom being a game developer he was a good friend to many within the blind comunity. I learned of his passing only a short while ago after seeing a link to his obituar on his Facebook page. He will certainly be missed.

Bleh. I've found a few bugs involving the Select Tool and Select Canvas functions, so thanks for digging them up, heh. It seems if you pick the Select Tool, hit space, then use the Select Canvas function, it won't deselect properly. Another issue seems to be if you select a region, then change the tool it will glitch out until you pick the select tool again and hit space. I'm putting together a fix now and i'll upload it in a bit.The Select Canvas function will automatically select the whole canvas, which will replace the canvas with the currently selected color, but it will also hold on to the previous region for you to move around. Selected regions aren't bound by the canvases borders, which is why it went so far, the number keys for selecting colors will also not work, and the Sonifier will only scan that selected region until deselected. Instead of the normal 3 tones that play per pixel, it will only play one standard tone when a region is selec
 ted. Bugs aside, you can deselect a region by pressing space, using the "cut" option in the edit menu, or pressing backspace to delete it. You  can tell if you have a selected region by holding "C", normally it should say "Canvas X by Y", if it says "Region X by Y" then you currently have a selected region.Edit: just finished uploading the update, let me know if theres any further issues.

Ah, I think I know what it is. When you use the Select Canvas function or Select Tool to select a region, it will grab and hold on to that region and replace it on the canvas with the currently selected color. That region will stay selected however, allowing you to move it around until you deselect it by pressing space, using the "cut" function in edit, or deleting it by pressing backspace. Unlike in regular paint mode, a selected region isn't bound by the edges of the canvas either, hence why you were able to move so far out. You can tell if you have a region selected by holding the "C" key, it will eventually say "Canvas X by Y", if it says "Region X by Y" then you currently have a selected area being held. If you have a region selected the color keys will also not function, and the sonifier will only scan the selected region, regardless of which canvas you happen to be on.I did find a few other bugs while looking in to it as a

World of Warcraft, or any more sound role-playing games.

Hello everyone. So I was thinking about all of the different role playing games we have. Where it would be solara,  or king of dragon pass.  But it would be cool to have a version of undead assaults for the android.  Also I've been thinking about maybe a version of World of Warcraft. That we can play on mobile devices. That way we can go on quest trade items and help each other using team speak.  And it would be cool for some of the mud clients to have sound. Not just for the computers, but for the mobile devices as well.  That way you can play alteraeon  from an iPad.  Also another idea that I had was a developer to make a    god of war game   that would have   the same kind of concept as a blind legend. Now that would be cool.  Also if it had those choices like an audio interactive novel.  Between that, and the sword fighting  that would be a cool game.

Ah. I played Rebound when I was 11-12-13 but I didn't really get the whole Breakout concept, though looking back now I'm sure I'd have been addicted. But in my breakout version you don't necessarily have bat extentions, -- bats have extends and width property, and that varies on the pattle. Currently I have 2 in the store, though adding them is quite simple, (typing 1 line of code), and I have 2 balls in the store as well.  I've also designed it so that it's not "required" that you purchase upgraded equipment in later levels, however I designed the higher levels so that they cannot be beaten with low level equipment, and not purchasing that will cause you to miss out on rewards.  I'm currently working on a timed level that involves breaking Chester the cat out of his cage, which he calls jail, in which his master put him for using the newspapers in the office again and allegedly breaking down the gate in order to g
 et in and do so, and not to mention knocking all the bricks from the table and sleeping on it.  --Yes, I know. Normal people would know that their cats cannot break down a metal gate or smash all the 30 bricks they placed on their kitchen table. but Chester's "Master" is a very peculiar individual... obviously.  That aside. You have to break it down in a certain amount of seconds to earn tradepoints, and even less time, which can only be achieved with the highest paddle and ball you can afford, to perhaps earn a useless ball.

Anyone interested in a Castaways 2 public beta?

Castaways 2 is getting closer to being released, but there are still several balancing issues that are being worked on.  The current testing team is not quite large enough to help us see how the game will play out after it goes live.  As a result, I am considering posting a public beta for at least a week, so we can have a larger scale test.Before I actually go through with this plan, I need to know if enough people are interested and would participate.  If I won't really get many people, then there isn't much of a point bothering with a public test.Thanks in advance everyone.  No one is obligated to participate just because they post something in here.  I just want a general idea of how many people might join in.

I tried selecting black, then hitting the select tool first, then the edit menu let me choose  select canvas. after this, my whole canvas was black. How many spaces are their supposed to be in the coordinates though? I pressed space along with one of the arrow keys, and it got stuck going and going to the right until i was at like 3000 or something like that. And it was black too! lol

Made it possible for admins to capture everyones attention with out notify, just a gentle little, you might want to switch to the english chat channel kind of thing. Notify will still be used, but if there's a small notification like how i'm going to restart the server or for people who know english to visit the english chat channel to partake in a conversation, we can now use that. Made it so you can press F12 to copy the last thing spoken in survive the wild to the windows clipboard! There has now been a bit of work done 
 on sounds when combining, also now for some items, you have to press t multiple times, such as making a spear. Fixed a bunch of bugs with looking at people. Fixed a fiew random bugs reported by people and that I have found. They were just quick little fixes, so I don't remember all of them and thus can't list here. And now for the biggest thing in this update... Added shelters! For now there's only wooden ones. Keep in mind these wooden shelters are ment to be extremely hard to build. When combining objects, you usually have to press T many times before it actually completes. Instructions for building. You will need a big fat load of wood, branches, and some glue, not to mension a hammer. Turn wood into planks as needed. First, take a branch and smear glue over it to get a sticky shaft. You will need a lot of these. Then, take a plank and combine with the sticky shaft. Do this again and combine the 2 results together. You will then have an item calle
 d shelter_wall_2. Add a plank to this item and it will change to shelter_wall_3. Add another plank and it's now shelter_wall_4. Continue doing this until you have the item saying shelter_wall with out a number. Then, repete the steps above to make another shelter wall. Make one of them sticky by adding glue, then combine the shelter_wall with the sticky_shelter_wall. This will give you a shelter_wall_half. Now repete everything above to get another shelter_wall_half. make one sticky, and combine shelter_wall_half with sticky_shelter_wall_half. This will give you an item called loose_shelter_walls. Use a hammer to tighten them and you'll get shelter_walls. Then, repete the process for making yet another shelter wall. But then add wood to it, and it will turn into a shelter floor. Add glue to the shelter_walls, then combine the shelter_floor with the sticky_shelter_walls. This will give you a roofless_shelter. Cool! Now, make another shelter wall, but this time make a plank 
 sticky with glue, then throw that onto the shelter roof. Then, make the shelter sticky by adding glue to the roofless_shelter, and combine the shelter_roof with the sticky_roofless_shelter! Now you have a loose shelter, do one last round of hammering and your shelter is ready to be placed! Draw your wooden_shelter, and walk to whare you want it and press space... And enjoy your new shelter! Keep in mind that once you place a shelter, you can't move it! If you are not in your shelter for over a week, it will automaticly be destroyed. When your not in the shelter, your shelter will loos 1 stabilization every minute. It starts with 1 stabilisation. If you continue visiting your shelter though, it won't always drop so fast, and will instead go up. But, it is possible to attack shelters! You just use weapons on them. So you can safely demolish your own, but look out for people who want to rat you out and destroy you! If you want to destroy a shelter, your PK must be on to h

I beat it!!! It took me 69 days, I lost 6 of my party (5 to starvation), and unfortunately my only child died after busting a leg when I had no splints for ages. I was on baby steps and ended up with a final score of 2903.

well I agree that undead assault probably shouldn't be on this thread but just to be a hipocrit:I tried it earlier. needs a lot of work and I'm interested to see where it goes but rite now calling it a first person shooter is wrong and misleading,  and comparing it to call of duty is flat out ridiculous.the basic concept though is good and I think it will be a lot of fun when it's finished.

I've had experience before, beta testing the first audio snowboarding game called snow race as well as helped to publicize the game. Now on the topic of a drm system. Gene, Steam requires an internet connection to log in. Steam starts by logging in. Through the rather confusing interface you can turn on the offline mode and run your games offline, but I'm not sure how long they will function in offline mode, since they aren't very clear about it. They could have a system like spotify where whether you keep your subscription up to date or not, the offline tracks will delete after 3
 0 days in offline mode. Therefore, I'm certainly not using the offline mode in Valve's defense, but just pointing out there is a way to play games offline. It's, doable, at most. For the games distribution service, I have an idea for a system involving license files. There would be no limit to the amount of computers or activations you can get, but when you register a game, it will download a license file to your computer, in a directory you can access, so you know where it is. However, the license file will expire in a year. To renew, you would connect to the internet, and the license file would simply redownload for another year. And although the license file would be tied to your computer to counteract piracy, there would be no limit to the amount of computers the license could be downloaded. While no activation system is perfect, it is a good counteract against piracy, while still not being invasive for legit users. It could even make more people actually want to 
 buy games through it, for the people who's motive for pirating is because of invasive drm systems. While that is certainly no reason to pirate, invasive drm is a valid problem.

well I agree that undead assault probably shouldn't be on this thread but just to be a hipocrit:I tried it earlier. needs a lot of work and I'm interested to see where it goes but rite now calling it a first person shooter is flat out wrong and misleading,  and comparing it to call of duty is flat out ridiculous.the basic concept though is good and I think it will be a lot of fun when it's finished.

There's a firefox addon called captcha monster, but I haven't tried it myself. I don't install addons for firefox simply because I'm using that from a vertual machine and also because my ISP had the really stupid idea of limmeting how much data I use and charging me for going over, which in my oppinion is a dick move.

by the way, soloud hss more features than elius, including an inbuilt tts engine (based on the same algarithem used by dectalk, though the voice sounds more like a otrax succesfully atempting a brittish accent), and support for more formats including midi, various tracker formats (mod, xm, ...) and even playing of sid music ripped from the c64.

I tried this, but it seems to think the sample images are black as well. I could change the yellow color to gold, but once i had selected the canvas, and filled it with black, the number keys no longer told me the colors. I tried changing the tool, but I still couldn't get my colors. the sonifyer making click noises for my black canvas makes sense, but it doesn't change when i change the canvas.

Hi all,I spent some time last night writing a MUD proxy.The point of this bit of code is to get around the annoying antiscripter employed by Miriani (and probably other games) which only allow you to enter so many commands a second before they start complaining. All my code does is throttle the number of commands per second back so only so many can go through.All commands are entered into a queue, then sent on as the preset time threshold has been exceeded.To run it, type something like:python mud_proxy.py toastsoft.net 1234 -i 0.33This makes the proxy forward any connections to toastsoft.net, port 1234 (Miriani), and only allows a command through every 0.3 seconds (so 3 commands per second).Using this I can type as quickly as I like and not get any adverse reaction for my apparent scripting.I don't think this is breaking any rules (although I've not checked), because far from speeding you up and giving you an unfair
  advantage, it actually slows you down, just to below the threshold where the antiscripter catches you.You can download the code from here.If you would like to try Miriani with my running instance of the proxy, point your client at code-metropolis.com, port 1234.Commands aren't logged or anything, so I can't see anything anyone is doing. If you don't believe me, then good for you! Get the code, read it, learn from it, and run it on your own machine.The only requirement outside of the Python standard library is twisted.The code should work on Python 2, and Python 3.I hope this is of use to someone.

Hmm. By default BrushTone automatically creates a 64 by 64 black canvas on start up. If your not hearing anything other than a click with the sonifier or the same low pitch with the window scan, then that would imply that the canvas is entirely black, for whatever reason. Try loading some of the sample images like "dithering.png" and enable Batch Mode and Loop Mode, if its loading any of the images properly that should give some results. Whenever a new image is loaded, it will replace and push the previous image back on the stack, and you can switch between them by pressing "tab", but it will not replace or delete images in the process. So if you load an image on start up, the default black canvas will be pushed back on the stack and the new loaded image will be displayed.For color, you can press any of the number keys from 0 to 9 on the keyboard, but to customize them you have to press and hold a number key. You can then press the up and down arrow keys
  to select a color by name, press the right arrow key to customize its RGB values, or press the left arrow key to pick a color from the canvas to replace the currently selected color.

hi sam, i alsow have same problem like smoke j, when i have 2 or more bears around me it lagg so mutch, my ping gos from 150 to around 3000, my network is the fastest network in sweeden and it lag mutch for me. my ping is dont stable, sometimes my ping is on 100 ms but it jump up to 3000 fast. Bringing this from the dead since I read Cae's mini paper that he linked to in the PS room. My question having read ll of it is, what do you think of BK 3's platforming and indication system? This whole writing was a general summation of the state of platforming in audio games and I'm jsut curious to know what you think since in terms of platforming, it's the most advanced in my own experience where audio games are concerned.

This won't answer your question if you insist on accessing the games hiding behind CAPTCHAs, but it is my solution.When I encounter such a site that uses a CAPTCHA without a bision impaired friendly alternative, I send them an email requesting that they either provide a vision impaired friendly alternative. If they refuse or ignore me, I just pass over the site and move on, there are blenty of other vision impaired friendly browser based games to play, that missing out on the few that insist on inaccessible CAPTCHAs isn't a problem.

Let's first clarify something.Steam is first and foremost a DRM system. To make it more paletable, Valve has put a game store and distribution system wrapper around the DRM system.Because Steam requires an active internet connection to let you play your games, I used it only for Valve games, for all other games, I bought them from a retail or online stores that shipped me a physical box with the game discs inside. So Steam or Origin wasn't needed.If Steam or Origin was needed no matter where you bought the game, I didn't buy or play it.I wont use an online store that requires that I install some proprietary download manager, like Direct to Drive before they were sold to Game Fly.If you want me as a customer, allow me to download my purchased game my way, either with my browser or with a third party download manager like GetRight, or send me a physical disc.If you insist on DRM, I'll accept a name and key registration th

and the irony is, I heard a roomer that the early versions of oppra (dating to around the time windows95 was released) was accessible with some screen readers. I can neither confirm nor deny these roomers as my experience was with a newer version.

Yeah, I've confirmed this. The resource list for the crashsite was showing the knife, and when the missing member stumbled into camp, he turned up at the crashsite with knife in hand.
