in this (controversial) article, a former FS employee claims that the cost of building a 490cell Pacmate was around $400 as of 2006. If the braille costs $1/dot, this is plausible. Ward, you will be greatly missed. I went ahead and posted this on the developers list at USA Games. Ward was a great mentor, often explaining programming concepts to me that I was finding hard to grasp.He was also the person I would talk to about Linux and when ever I consider developing apps and whatnot cross-platform, he is the first one I think of when I wish to get something tested on Linux.I never had any arguments with him that I can remember and he was also very active in some of the discussions we would have on how to do certain things when making games or apps.Does anyone know what will happen to the USA Games email lists?

Well, I am not very good at describing sounds. I would say it's a kind of high pitched "tinglingling" sound. It somehow reminds of the sound when you encounter a shiny in a classic Pokemon game, but it is not the same.

Hi sam. For two days, I bought a new laptop and I have a little problem. My model is assus g551J who don't have the end key. I can use only the numeric keyboard one wich can't decrease the game music volume. What to do? How to play with this music at a lower volume without this key? A specific setting I think that can solv that problem. It sounds strange but that's the true. I have only an end key on the numpad, and it can't decrease to background game map music.

Oh and now that I remember, I caught a Pidgey in the previous version. The thing is, that Pidgey made a special sound after it's cry, and when I enter it's menu to switch him/give him an item, that special sound plays. So, is it possible that this Pidgey could be shiny?

I'm a little confused at last post. About the joystick, I can make an option in the main menu so you can learn the buttons like button 1, 2, 3 etc. So guys, I just added something kind of cool to stw, and that is a location map! Basicly if you allow the server to, it shows not your character name, but just your location and nothing else on a little map on my website, and it's actually kind of cool seeing whare people play from. This might sound like an invasion of privacy but that's not what this feature is here for, simply type /private and your location will never show up on the map anymore, unless you type /private again, then it will toggle back and your location will be available again. And remember it only shows locations, no names. If you want to see the online map, you can go to http://www.samtupy.com/games/stw/stw_map.php it's pretty cool! Just remember I am absolutely not trying to invade any 
 privacy,, but just to make a map that shows whare players are playing from, just for fun! And if you don't feel comfortable, just log on and type /private! I hope you enjoy this little location map, I think it's pretty cool!

Damn, your right. That does sound exactly like it, the B2G site says its supposed to be launching this month, apparently. B2G seems like a later generation of flexible braille display prototyped back in 2005 though you wouldn't know it from looking at it, but if they already had a functioning prototype since then why haven't they rolled something out ages ago? I'd imagine a cheap credit card sized flexible braille display could work as a base model without all sorts of extra features.

NVDA speak problem

I uninstalled avast then installed the new version And as soon as I did this NVDA started not reading things and it says unknow for some programs and these were programs that it did well reading in. It will not read things in file explorer on windows 7. It did all this very well before the avast thing.

You can drink instant health and skill point restoring potions outside of combat. However, you can not drink buffing potions outside of combat. To drink an instant restorative potion outside of combat go into inventory, click the "use" button then click on the potion you wish to drink. I can't recall but I believe you can learn which are buffing potions by inspecting the info screen by clicking "info" then the potion.

Hi RachelI know your time is limited, but if you ever want a brain breaker, here's one:I have two systems running windows 10. On one of them, braillemon plays just fine. Copying the folder on a pendrive to take to the other, works as expected. Here's the thing: if I start playing on the other system, saving the game results in two files being modified and created: savegame.enc and savegame.sgi. As soon as that happens, next time I want to load a game, the game simply crashes. I've disabled windows defender and everything I could think of that might cause issues, but still no luck. Weird, isn't it? Additionally, it seems that only initial saves work. If I start a game, and save for the first time, the files are created as expected. Consequential saves seem to ruin it though.

Pythons a fairly good cross platform language, though you'll have to find and tinker with the required supporting packages. Pyglet, PyAL, Pygame, and other API's are good for windows, mac, and linux development, if your going for mobile you should have a look at the Kivy API. I don't know its level of accessibility, but another choice might be HaXe, which is also cross platform and allows you to compile code into other native languages.

Moderation! I'm moving this topic out of new releases sinse the game's access is in doubt at the moment, indeed "access" in terms of roguelikes is a difficult thing owing to the amount of on screen information anyway, playable yes, playable with the same effort as a sighted person who can just look at the screen? perhaps not. For people who are wondering about what a roguelike is and what the access issues are, I did answer some of those questions and wrote a brief explanation in post five of This thread suffice it to say ascii graphics in an overhead view with lots of looking around to be done, near impossible without a braille display, and slow work with one, also requiring massive spacial awareness to remember where everything on the screen is (especially I imagine if zombie hoards are involved).

Hi All,I don't often post on this board, but I recently encountered a new game which I thought was worth mentioning. It's called Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, or CDDA for short, and it's essentially an open-world, zombie survival roguelike.Basically, you're an average survivor in a near future version of New England, and you wake up one day in an emergency shelter. You have to figure out how to find food, defend yourself, and in general just stay alive. The game has an amazingly detailed crafting system, dynamic world map, and no overarching goals to speak of. You can be anything from a guntoating survivalist to a martial artist to some kind of mutated scientific experiment. There are vehicles, which you can make and repair yourself, tons of weapons, and, of course, zombies.There's a catch. This game isn't as accessible as it could be yet. There are some annoying display issues, and the current "experimental," version is w
 orking on fixing them. I play on Linux with Speakup, but there's a Windows console version too, which should be playable as well.It can be found here. A forum thread i started for accessibility help is here.This game definitely isn't for everyone, and is very in depth, but I think there are at least a few folks on this board who might be interested in something in this style. The game is displayed in a console window like a lot of older dos style games so you You need to read the screen with a screen review curser, for it to work, ie, the jaws curser or the nvda review curser. It's not about "the game not supporting"  screen readers, it's just about using what the screen reader already has to read the in game text.I'm not sure how Jaws or Nvda work with the game, but it has run successfully with both in the past using the right curser, it's also an amazingly awesome game so is well worth playing.

As a hint, you need to scare the lady who's playing the organ, and so need to catch a creature to do it, one of the books in the library should help you with this.If your still stuck (that one is a bit obscure), Have a look at This walkthru for Chillingham written by Michael Barns and posted in our articles room, it should have all the answers of how to get through the game, though I'll warn you, Chillingham is not very long so you might as well try stuff out yourself first.

Hi. Has the link to the updated braillemon been posted yet? I checked her website, and I didn't see it. And I don't think you're being annoying. I think it's vital to report, especially since it's so new, it can give the players and the developer heads up on what's not quite ready to be played yet. I still play, rarely, and I still find mount moon a pain in the foot, since I can't get out. I tried a walkthrough, I posted a link several pages ago, and I still haven't figured it out. Follow the narrow tunnel? Find the second ladder? I know it's not written for blind players, but it's still pretty interesting and somewhat descriptive, and I haven't found a walkthrough that matches this walkthrough's details. Even though I couldn't use it, mainly because I've been wandering mount moon a bunch of times and I probably misplaced some of the landmarks it mentions, some people might be interested, so I'll dig out th
 e page and post a link. Maybe I'm just not spacially aware.

Sorry to come back on it, but actually the damage is calculated with the attacking pokemon's HP, and not the defending one. For instance I made a couple experimentations with my Golem on route 9, and the attack will always do 117 damage to whatever pokemon, even on a Pidgey which has around 50 hp max.Now if my Golem's health is reduced to 113 HP, it does 113 damage, and 40 damage if my Golem has 40 HP, and it would mean my Golem would not even be able to kill a Pidgey with Rock Throw in such a case.Now I know some moves use the HP of the attacking Pokemon in the damage formula, but I am certain Rock Throw or Earthquake don't.ON the other hand, my Golem is the most affected with that then my other Pokemon, and I understand if anybody else thinks the game acts normally. This is to complicated, and I think I'd better  consider there is no glitch at all. Plus you may think I'm anoying always talking about it.

Lol. I have a mac. Trust me, I got it around november of 2014. I can tell you, I do, to some degree, wonder if you can set one up witout having an ITunes or an Appstore account. LOL. Basicly, I do wonder if one can be set up without setting up an apple account of any kind. Didn't think to try it at the time. Then again, I need to get up the nerv to go try linux again. I do listen to some of the shows off of the TWIT network and MS has and do keep on making the news there for some reason. I wonder why... Oh weight, I know, MS really want people to upgrade! LOL.

Hi RachelI know your time is limited, but if you ever want a brain breaker, here's one:I have two systems running windows 10. On one of them, braillemon plays just fine. Copying the folder on a pendrive to take to the other, works as expected. Here's the thing: if I start playing on the other system, saving the game results in two files being modified and created: savegame.enc and savegame.sgi. As soon as that happens, next time I want to load a game, the game simply crashes. I've disabled windows defender and everything I could think of that might cause issues, but still no luck. Weird, isn't it?

First and formost really starting to get into this game and appreciate the fact you made it. Quick question though, is there a way to drink potions outside of battle instead of equipping them? Interesting! The web speech api works well with Chrome and Windows 8.1. Synthesis uses the default SAPI voice and additional Google Voices. Recognition works well too, and without learning (at least in this example), but requires to allow the browser every time to use the mic.Couldn't make synthesis work with Chromium 37 in a Knoppix Live CD.It's impressive how the espeak synthesizer could be ported to _javascript_. Requiring the user to have Chrome is good enough for me. Having the meSpeak option (just in case) is great.So, it's possible to have full control on the speech, but I wonder if it would be great to also use the web page as a way to display a lot of structured text info (tables, etc) freely accessible to screen readers. are some of the entrances in the rock tunnel and routs mislabeled? it got confusing when i was walking through the tunnel it pepped saying second floor when it was the third floor and rout 10 when i went deeper in.

Changed the topic info.I know that _javascript_ is one of the simplest cross platform language, and I have experienced coding a game using a _javascript_ game engine called Enchant JS. However, _javascript_'s audio support is not so good. Also, when loaded with different browsers, it sometimes changes its behavior or simply doesn't work.PureBasic and Python are the ones I'm really interested in. Python's useful libraries and PureBasic's lightweight executable module sound really nice. Want to learn sometime.Since I don't have MAC computer, I can't test iOS app development now. Buying a reasonable Android tablet and experiment with Corona is honestly much cheaper.I've tried Visual Studio some times, but couldn't get what I should do at all. Eventually, the installation info was broken for some reason, and I hated it.I've written some basic codes in C#, using the command line compiler which is in the windows f
 older, forgot the exact location though. I'm not really sure what can be done through command line, and what can't be done unless I use VS.

Hello,I have  released version1.1 of this tool. I will first post the change log, then the readme. Enjoy!WHAT DOES THIS DO?This tool allows you to easyly add footstep sounds into your sound productions. Before creating this tool I needed to select each random step sound that I was going to use and mix them manually. I have decided that this work should be easier. Instead of you selecting the step sound manually, you press the space bar as fast as you want and the program will select the sounds for you and play them.The program can also play object carrying sounds, so you can simulate a person who is carrying an object.How does it work?PreparingIn the sounds folder, there is a folder called step. Put your step sounds in folders. For example, grass, wood, river. You can name those folders as you like. Then, put in wav files inside your folder. The names of the wav files can be as you like. The folders do not even need equal file amounts. There are 3 example folders.Object carrying soundsThis is a feature that you may like if you want to make a person who is carrying an object. If this feature is turned on, for every step sound that plays the program will play a random object carrying sound. You can put your object carrying sounds in sounds/t. The files must be in wav format. There is no limitation on file names or The amount of files that you can put in. There are 6 wav files that you can use.Realistic stepsThis is a feature which pans the footsteps. If you want more detailed walking then this is a feature you might like to use.When you're ready, you can press spacebar as you like to make the character walk and record it with stereo mix.Keystrokes:Tab and shift tab: Navigates through foldersT: Toggles object carryingS: toggles sounds. This is used when tabbing through folders.k: Toggles speech. This is used when tabbing through folders.G: Toggles realistic walking.ctrl+g: Opens the folder menu. I thought this would be a quicker way of navigating through folders than tabbing through sometimes.Space: plays a footstepA: Says how many steps you took.Ctrl+A: Resets stepsI hope this may help you.What's new in 1.1:Re-written folder finding system. You no longer are dependant on numbered folders. That means you can name your folders as you want. You no longer have to set how many step sounds you have in your folder either. The program will do it for you. The only limitation is that your files have to be in wav format. The same thing also applies to object carrying.Do to the rewrite I had to remove the number row as well. I will find a way to re-add it. Removed f1 key as I felt this was no longer needed.Replaced the folder navigation sounds with the first sound in every folder.Added a menu which opens when you press ctrl+g that lists your folders. You can navigate with up arrows and press enter on one to instantly focus on that folder.Added the command ctrl+A to reset the step counter.The program automatically detects your screen reader when launched. Sorry for the bugs. I'm updating the file again with the fixes to the captain's room and Mr Fuji. I'm currently building a new kickstarter for the other game I'm working on; the demo will NOT have accessibility mode ready but I should have a demo with that ready within 3 weeks of the kickstarter being released. However, that will be the main focus of my work for the next few months. I greatly appreciate any donations at this time since I'm very tight on cash and the UIA is really slow.

If you ever played Star Trek: Final Conflict or any of the beta releases of Mysteries of the Ancients, which we generally referred to as MOTA, those were Thomas' work. Unfortunately he obviously won't be able to finish MOTA or the new Star Trek title he wanted to write.

Hi Yukio,C# is another option for cross platform development, and in some ways the closest to Unity3D since they both use mono to work on operating systems other than windows.I have made C# apps that run on Windows and Linux because those are the operating systems I have easy access to, but Mac also supports mono.If you want C# to run on iOS or Android you have to purchase a special Xamarin license to do that.Unity3D also charges you to deploy to iOS or Android.If you use native dlls then you'll have to ensure you only use those that can compile on all your target platforms.There is a free framework called MonoGame that gives you a bunch of cross platform game related libraries.http://www.monogame.net/I'm pretty sure Xamarin Studio is not accessible, but Visual Studio is reasonably accessible and you could probably use the command line Xamarin tools to compile for the smart phone plat
 forms.Visual Studio is free, and it is free to compile for windows, linux, and mac.It looks like compiling for iOS requires a Mac.Unity3D is basically C# and mono, but they've added a bunch of helpful game libraries and tools, and gone to the effort of making sure they all run cross platform.MonoGame is similar, but not a commercial product so doesn't have the quality or broad set of tools that Unity3D has.And as mentioned, you purchase the ability to compile for iOS and Android directly through Xamarin, instead of through Unity3D who must have their own deal with Xamarin.All that said, this is just one option.I haven't compiled for the smart phones myself, but I have used C# and Visual Studio for a very long time, so can help with those if you went this route.And you would still want to verify that Xamarin has command line compilers.Good luck with whatever technology you choose.

If you want to develop for both PC and phones, web is probably the best option. If you want to do cross platform Windows and Mac development, Pure basic or python are good options - for pure basic you'll want to use an external library like bass instead of its built-in sound functions. For iOS and Android, you can look into corona which is what Liam used to make his audio archery game.

Maybe look at Varazuvi.com? Most of their stuff is commercial, but they have a selection of CC3 tracks.I remember finding a site with a seemingly endless collection of CC music (to the extent it was cumbersome to search), but I don't remember where it was. (It might have been creativecommons.org , for all I remember.)

That's more or less how the piezoelectric, pneumatic, and EAP/artificial muscle stuff works. (And also how LCDs work.)I kept reading things that said that arranging so many small parts into a cramped space is part of the difficulty, but... they've been doing that since the 1930s, at least, with CRT televisions, haven't they?The descriptions make it sound like fitting the circuitry in it would be difficult, but again, LCDs can be pretty thin without trouble.So... yeah, aside from some minor details, it sounds like what you described really should work, and I'm not entirely sure why it doesn't.[edit]If this wasn't dated 2009, and didn't mention that it was picked up by the National Braille Press, and if other papers I found didn't suggest that it turned into the B2G, I'd say this tried to sound like exactly that:http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/n
