In all honesty, I think Christianity, while probably worthwhile in the beginning, was subverted by Romans and the books altered to promote a religion based on fear. If you don't believe in God you go to hell. If you don't obey the church, you go to hell. It's all about control, especially as I understand it, the old testament doesn't even have the word hell, and the Hebrew word Sheol has a different translation. Hell isn't even mentioned until Mathew 5:22, and the word Jesus used is Gihenna which was more along the lines of a purifying fire than a punishment. You can also make a reasonable argument for reincarnation and karma based upon Mark 8:27-28, and John 9:2-3 (How can one sin before birth to be born blind?). Still, things like Jacob having two wives and sleeping with their servants being okay with God, God himself saying he's jealous and punishing the sins of t he father to the third and fourth generation? God telling people to kill their enemies down to the children? How is that at all loving? the best quote from the Bible in my opinion is 1 John 4:8: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. That should be what Christianity was meant to be. Imho, Mathew 7: 1-5 is something most Christians forget, and why I no longer follow organized religion at all. The idea is to center the bit of debris your salvaging, not right on center unless you can, but center it as close as possible. If its too far off left or too far off right, then the operation won't be successful. Do keep in mined that the bit of debris will move back and forth. My stradegy for this is to go in the oppisit direction its going, that way when it swings around I have the best chance of catching it. Under normal circumstances the rca converter is nothing more than an audio passthrough for a 3.5mm audio device to a device with rca jacks. Should work with the mixer. The high impedence from the mic preamp, and the fact that it's not a line level channel is probably what's causing the buzzing. Also, make sure what you are connecting to the line in port of your soundcard is an output connection, not an input, as I've said many times. you said you're connecting the RCA jacks to the soundcard, but make sure they are outputs. If you really have to connect to one of the main mic inputs, make sure the gain is turned way down on the preamp. Pokémon Showdown is indeed a harsh terrain, I spent weeks just reading and studying the metagame, going through lots of team analysis, and even so it took me three months to start winning more than loosing, it's a really wild competition environment, but it's all accessible, the reason why I'm not a top player is that I am lame, not that it's difficult for the blind I have and old project about Magic the Gathering, one that would require someone with real programming skills, not the poor ones I have. There is/was an application for Windows which I used when I was sighted, the name is Apprentice. Apprentice was a server-client app that would connect via IP and allowed you to play Magic the Gathering. The graphics were greatly simplified, with no card illustrations, and the rules were kept by the players rather than by the app. So, if you take 3 damage, you gotta deduce 3 life points from your total, the game won't do it automatically. All that said, it was a great way to play Magic, and it had no complex interface, just a list with your cards, a tabletop, a chat and some buttons.It would be just wonderful if we or somebody could create it for the blind. I tried some years ago with BGT, but got stuck on it and in the end it seems that an app made in Python, with an interface that sighted players could use too, would be a nicer pick. Generally anything built in DIKU/ROM and sometimes CircleMUD, anything with that little character customization prompt after creation, has it's experience per level set at a given number. Muds that have progressive advancement are rarer. Not sure if it's me being used to and wanting to play RPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but I prefer games where experience per level is dynamic. Even if that means I have to kill 6 black cyborg dragons of ultimate obliteration to get to level 20. I know that sounds contradictory to say I don't like that they've slowed the progress of the game down in one sentence and then say I don't mind slow progress under certain conditions in the next. I think it's just because it started as a very quick levelling process, where you could max out a character in a couple of weeks and actually get to your cool skills early on, and now to try to add more longterm play value th ey've just drastically slowed down levelling.I feel the same about games that use limited turns to keep players replaying, or add limits to events where you can only do one part of that event per day. I'm looking at you, sryth. I think if a developer wants to extend the value of their game, they should actually develop more playable content like Lands of Hope, Puppet Nightmares and other games have done. Not just add cheesy replay hooks like slower levelling or limited play per day. Re: List of 1st person shooter games Kai,Ironically I had to treat the wands in the Sarah game as guns as there was no wand function in the game engine.I made the wand like a sawed off shotgun with a wide spread of shells that would guarantee a hit if you were facing your target.I do plan on developing a FPS named Cops, a temporary name,based on my DOS Cops game where you can ride in a police car but have to leave it to confront the criminals. It's got a main mix, There's the main mix, xlr and then the rca ins and outs. The rca adapter I have has 2 rca connectors on one end, that go into rca jacks, and then a 3.5mm connector on the other end where you plug your headphones or one end of patch cable. I plug the other end of the patch cable into the line-in on the usb soundcard. I'm plugging the stream into one of the jacks on the main mix. That's what's producing buzzing. Trying to find a game to call home Hi! I'm looking for a MUD to call home. Here is what I'd like, requirements first and then some requests.The Requirements1. Enforced RP. No ooc chatter unless it's on a dedicated ooc channel that can be turned off. I played a game recently that claimed to be RP-enforced, but there was no way to turn off the ooc channel.2. I'd like a reasonable playerbase. I'm not going to get fussy about numbers, since the popularity of MUDS is declining, but I don't want a game that feels empty half the time.3. I'd like a variety of organizations to be apart of, especially when it comes to religious affiliations. Games where you can be killed because you're not a part of the state religion don't give much room for storytelling, in my view. No offense to those people on the forum who play the inquisition. Advancement based on one's merits, not on how often they bash monsters. A windows defender scan came up clean as well as a Malware Bytes premium scan. However, its using about 50 to 60 percent of the 8 gigs that it has. It doesn't really impede usefullness, and other games haven't been having similar issues, I just don't like it. I shouldn't really have gotten a virus as this computer's only 4 months old and I haven't been to any sketchy sites but yeah if I can't find the cause I'm headed for a reinstall of windows. Re: Computer Science Majors: Current and Past I, myself, wish I brought this up before I attempted computer science. If I had, I might had found ways to not fell at it. LOL. It was mostly the math that drug me down. That plus a touch of putting off hard things until I could no longer do so, and the fact that I did not demand the major stuff be in braille among other reasons. I am not too sure that the adaptive tech center where I went to university knew how best to braille some of that out. The result is that I know some tiny bit of programming, could possibly maybe recognize it if I see it, know that looking math up on the net is useless at times, that the computer does a lot for us in the back ground, having other people write stuff down that you tell them that you wish to remember for scratch does not always work out if you depend on looking at it at that time visually(scratch as in math and yes I had one that wished to see my work), that some teach with a vary visual way, accessing a linux machine via putty is not good enough at times, and that I made a few mistakes that cost me. I hope that made some sort of sense there. To say that I crashed and burned is sort of a understatement on my part. All exaggerations aside, I completely agree with Dark, in that an FPS generally has certain qualifiers, and I really don't like this tendancy for people to try and label game(s) in multiple genres just for exposure. Sarah, for example, just because you can walk around and "fire" spells, does not qualify as an FPS. She has no gun, ergo no shooter. Lonewolf and GMA Tank Commanders might be shooters, but they are clearly vehicle themed, so don't really fit as an FPS shooter, either. This is underscored by the fact that it's implied that you are commanding a crew aboard both of those military vehicle games, rather than playing a single character. Would you count a pure arcade game like duckhunt? and if you would count fast action arcade games, why only those with guns? how about something like pipe 2 blast chamber?I admit I kept the action games category in the database, but it's not one I'm happy with, since hell something like rhythm rage is an action game .Generally it's a sort of catch all for anything that isn't an arcade game and doesn't fit anywhere else, but again not really a perfect one hence why I prefer categories like space invaders games etc.@Phil, again, lone wolf is probably less of a first person shooter than tank commander is owing to how you control a sub in complete vectored movement and targeting is based on firing solutions. Sarah also seems more of an adventure game to m e, though it's certainly first person and you target and shoot spells etc so who knows. Generally in "first person shooter" when I've used the genre classification in the db I mean something like mainstream fps games like call of duty or indeed the classic doom that shades is somewhat a homage to, ie, play a single character running around with a gun, able to turn a full 360 degree circle, having to target and shoot things, complete with cover, obstacles, strafing and all of that sort of fun stuff, still since the very term "first person" is a bit confusing in audio anyway it's pretty flexible. Re: Erion mud Well I didn't know about the xp change you mention, so it obviously is not as much a deal breaker, or at least not for me. Actually I like the fact that in erion as opposed to most games gaining levels takes roughly the same amount of xp, meaning youll always know when to get a new one, and while levels do take a number of kills, getting qp equipment is mch easier than in other games which is definitely a bonus.Indeed I always find it silly in games when it takes 20 rat kills to get from level 1 to 2, and yet it takes 200 red dragon kills to get from level 19 to 20, as though red draghons are worth less than rats even though the amount of xp you gain is so much larger (though in terms of total amount to progress a level it's actually smaller).I also like the fact that in erion the missions are pretty easy going as far as guess syntax goes and people are willing to help. it is also nice that the zones tend to have interesting stuff like extra shops etc to find in them.the only thing that is a little off in Erion is the fact that you don't seem to get many interesting skills to play with that quickly. There are interesting things to do in the game itself, but it would be nicer to get more combat abilities, indeed most of my practices have been converted into trains for stat gain since there is no point sitting on a huge pile of practices I'm just plane not going to use. As for how it compares to aardwolf, yes the university and autoquest systems are similar, but various other things are different. Erion has far more random stuff to find while exploring, in terms of random rewards, sigils, runes etc, plus erion has missions that are actually possible where aardwolfs goals system could get bloody obscure, oh and the fact that you don't get told "well that goal isn't for you" if you can't get the goal is a major bonus. I also happen to like erion's wri ting better than aardwolf's though this is likely is just preference.in general I'll say there are more complex games, but for a bit of random slaying and something based very much on running around and smack stuff, erion seems to work rather well. Re: Erion mud Not nearly as easy as it was when this mud was Rising Kingdoms. Back when EXP was calculated by level and you could earn your first 30 levels just from doing the newbie stuff. I pretty much gave up on this thing after they changed the levelling requirement to 10 exp per level no matter what level you were at without consulting any of their players and drastically changing the feel of the game. Now they think they've compromised by dropping it down to 50k, but when the game used to be a massive power-levelling fest that was a blast to play and now it's a tedious near-aardwolf clone lacking in uniqueness, it's just not for me. I totally understand that some people are happier with slower progression, and I am too as long as that's how the game starts like 3Scapes. So I'm not going to totally trash the game or anything. I just don't think a game should be drastically altered like that just because someone got a bug in their bonnet about player s levelling too quickly and instead of making more endgame content, decided to mess up the levelling formula. Medievia lost three quarters of it's player base by doing something very similar with equipment, and from what I see when I bother to check up on this game they haven't exactly had an influx of players since the change either. There is a new witch class in the works which sounds interesting, though at the moment I'm still working for qps and experience. Still, the game is fun, particularly because of how progression seems relatively easy.
