Re: New BPCSharedComponent.dll
Re: New BPCSharedComponent.dll I agree with 58 and 59 on this one. I wasn't exactly impressed with 46 either, though I kept my thoughts to myself when I originally read it. This is exactly why I lean towards native programming languages rather than interpreted ones more than often: the solution may be simpler in Python or Java, for example, but if I'm making a product that just might not be open-source when its released, perhaps because I use my own cryptographic schemes or algorithms, and I'm not ready to share them, but the risk to someone decompiling it and then bragging about the accomplishment for all and sundry almost sickens me. (That's not the only reason I prefer native languages rather than interpreted ones, but that's one of the big, major reasons.) At least when I build programs in C++ or Go I can be reasonably assured that it would take someone quite a while to get anything approaching useful out of the decompilation process. I mean, I'm sure other developers would feel the same if I found a vulnerability in their registration system for their shared products and publicly posted, no, bragged how I had cracked it and how incredibly easy it was. But I wouldn't do that: I'd do the right them and contact them privately and say something like, "Hey, just to let you know, there's a vulnerability in X and Y that lets me do Z with X. Here's how I did it..." and so on. Re: New BPCSharedComponent.dll
Re: New BPCSharedComponent.dll I truly wish people here would spend less time acting like they know everything, and spend more time learning what they don't know. It's okay to say you don't know something or aren't sure of it. But making claims that a language can't do something, when it clearly can proves you don't know as much as you think you do. And ya know? that's totally fine. I speak for myself when I say this but I do not respect a person who knows it all. I respect a person who doesn't know it all and can admit they have learning to do. I'm learning new things every day when it comes to Python, and to be fair I've actually taught my friends a few things they didn't know too. Also post 46 hurts me on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. So I just won't. Re: water master BK III
Re: water master BK III I don't think the water master should be available during a normal playthrough either. While I would have welcomed it when I was playing normal, it would have made everything far too easy and taken a lot of the fun out of the game. Having it available after beating normal or maybe exciting would make it more useful without breaking the first playthrough.@ZuckussYou don't need the water master to defeat the biocontrol system. You can kill it with something like the triple yoyo or many other weapons. I'd recommend using shields and/or jumping out of the way of its attacks. Just stay close to it as much as you can. If you listen, you'll notice that it makes a particular sound just before it attacks. How are your HP and defense looking? It may be necessary for you to upgrade one or both of them if the above strategy doesn't work. If you have some defense drinks and life boosters, you could use them to mitigate some of the damage as well. Re: Getting Started with Python?
Re: Getting Started with Python? @3 2 options at this pointeither do python path to file like:python c:\users\bla\desktop\python\file.pyOr you could just click enter on the python file and open it that way. But by doing that your screenreader won't catch the console output as a result, your program will open for one second then close, if you're performing printing stuff. That's why it's recommended to use it from cmd. Re: Getting Started with Python?
Re: Getting Started with Python? Hi,When you install python, there is a check box called add python to path. What that means, is that you would be able to run your python code from anywhere. Don't worry though, even if you miss that check box you still can do it manually. Open your command prompt (windows+r> type cmd> press enter). Now type this command:set path=c:\python37Just replace the path with where you copied your file as you said in a previous post and you will be all set to use python from anywhere. Re: SoundRTS, a real-time strategy audio game
Re: SoundRTS, a real-time strategy audio game Nice changes! The terrains should add an interesting touch. If you could make it so that only certain units can go through a certain terrain, then we could have the water and water-going units that people have always wanted. Maybe at some point in future the terrains and their unit-slowing and cover-providing properties can be defined in the rules. It would be interesting to be able to modify those properties in individual units then. For example, having a terrain that slows down most units but some units could move through it normally, or a terrain that blocks most units but some can move through it. Re: Sonus Audio Game Console this sounds fun, I'd be interested in giving it a go when it comes out. The USB thing sounds like it would be a pain though, those things aren't cheap and given that half the games developed around here only keep me entertained for a few hours at best I feel like I would end up installing a game, plugging it in, playing it, ripping out the USB in disgust, deleting the game and then repeating. I'm not sure how easy this would be but having multiple games on a single USB would be a good feature to have, many of the games that will get made won't take up all that much space anyway. Multiplayer functionality would be a good bonus as far as I'm concerned, I think that it would be a lot more fun to play games if they were on line. Finally, if I made a game and wanted some people to test it for me, a functionality should exist on the store to privately host a game and to have a link to it made available to me, I could send that to my testers and they could download the test version. I can see issues with trust here but I still think it would be necessary. Re: Creating an audio game using Sable, by Ebon Sky Studios Hi everyone,As ever thanks for all the positive comments, and below are a few more answers to questions which have come in:-@ number 34, so to answer a few of your questions:-Yes, Sable does support a Z axis, but at present the player can only move up and down the Z axis at specific points such as things like stairs, doorways etc.-there isn’t a fall system in place due to the way mentioned above in which we currently handle z axis navigation-traps can add an interesting mechanic to an RPG, we’ve played around with a couple of prototype ideas for traps, but can’t say at this stage whether they will make it into the final release or not, so this is one of those areas we’ll have to wait and see.-as for the battle system, Sable only supports a turn based system for battles.-@ number 35, I didn’t think any of the final fantasy series were playable by someone totally blind, but as a huge FF fan, I’m really intrigued as to how this would work. I don’t want to veer this post off topic with final fantasy stuff though, but if you want to drop me an email off list I’d be really interested to know how that works. You can reach me at my personal email paul.lemm@sky .com and like I said I’d be really interested in how this would work-@number 36, i haven’t ever used RPG maker, but I think that the mechanic you mentioned where you can see how their game was made and edit it once you’ve completed it is a very clever idea. As mentioned in a previous post, we want to release two games created using sable before we release the development tools, this will give us a chance to hone sable before its release and hopefully show everyone what can be achieved using sable. We probably wouldn’t include something which would let you edit these games, but I think when we release sable it could be a great idea to include a few pre-created maps for people to play around with and test stuff on to give an idea of how stuff works. Again can’t promise this will definitely make it into the final release but it’s a really good idea and definitely something the team here will discuss in more detail.Again huge thanks to everyone for all the interest in the project and some really great questions tooThe Ebon Sky Studios Team URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/post/399756/#p399756 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: FireFight is back
Re: FireFight is back Ah, another FPS that doesn't know what they're doing again. Why does every top-down shooter have to include a save feature so that people can just frag newly spawned players without effort? What's wrong with pulling a RTR and just resetting the map when new people come on to have an even playing field? As some example show on here, the only thing saving systems tend to encourage is highly evasive gameplay, where people refuse to fight anyone that can fight back, and log out the first signs of trouble is coming to them. You know the type, the ones that kill new characters, but when you prove to be trouble, spend the entire time running away and healing like crazy, until they can log off. Also what's with the large maps by default? Again, how can one game set an example for fun timewasters like RTR, and every other shooters that comes after proves to just be godawful? You are not an rpg or role playing game to be having saved loadouts, stop acting like one. It's a bit interesting that the previously mentioned game is having a revival of sorts, despite the limited server selection. Re: Sonus Audio Game Console Of course most people want a release date and understandably so. The main reason this project has taken so long is the amount of time it takes to design and trail new PCBs andcomponents. Im currently in the process of seeking funding to outsource that to someone who has the equipment to progress with it quicker. Leaving me to focus on the sonus features and the G D E. So if all goes to plan we should see more next year. And possibly a release the year after. Although ideally i'd like it sooner. As for a demonstration. Ill see if I can make anything for the next sample game I make to test the G D E's new script feature out. (Not the python script, its something called G D E script which is just a quicker way of writing actions into events rather than selecting them one after the other) URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/post/399751/#p399751 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

In an ideal world we wouldn't have to worry about such a thing, but as post 46 elegantly proves, we certainly don't live in an ideal world. send to braille graphical interface?
send to braille graphical interface? hi,currently the send to braille free braille translation program is difficult for new people to use, because you have to edit bat files to switch braille translation tables. its website is at:https://tech.aph.org/lt/and it installs itself into:C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\SendToBraillecould some programmer on this forum please make a simple graphical interface so send to braille is easier to use? a browse button for choosing input and output files for translation, translate button, and a combo box for choosing valid braille tables? currently if i want to translate spanish or foreign language braille, i have to edit some bat files and change table filenames to do that and change them back when i am done. i think send to braille supports all ctb, tbbl, and utb files. but i'm not sure. thanks. Re: Sonus Audio Game Console Hi Defender. There are a lot of valid points and concerns in your message. There will indeed be a game store, where games can be uploaded to by developers and downloaded by players. I wouldnt expect developers to have to handle the distribution. For people who dont use the internet as much I plan on setting up a phone system to also be used to purchase games and those games be sent out on a memory stick, this will all be handled by us.I understand the concern of having games on memory sticks and I even addressed this concern once before, I believe adding the ability to download the games onto the console from the stick would help, or even program in access to the game store through the console itself. It is all possible, but as you said, I'm one guy at the moment and getting essential functionality is top priority at the moment. We could spend forever making it perfect and never get chance to release it, this is why I made sure it could be updated. When we have a revenue stream we can afford a team. and with a team more updates will come much easier.Another aim is to introduce game development to complete beginners and start developing a communist of audio game creators, with a place to sell or give away their games easily. Hopefully this will see an increase in the games available. Of course it will take time.Could you explain more about what you mean about the architecture limiting developers? if we can highlight the issues I'm sure we can work them out.As for developers updating their games, they can re-uplaod them to the play store.Your message was quite long so I hope I havent missed anything. I would like to recap what improvents this fourm has highlighted that the sonus needs:1.Lithium-ion batteries to make it rechargable - its worth noting the unit can already run from mains power as well.2.The abilitiy to download games from the stick to be stored on the device, and possibly a direct connection to the play store to download games.3. Python programming capabilities + API4. More TTS options other than espeakAgain I feel I need to stress that although I want to acomplish all of this and as soon as possible, pursuing all these goals at this stage could actually be counter productive, but please let me know if you feel I have missed anything.I am aiming for the finsiehd unit to have Lithium ion batteries and python programming capabilities, this will get us off of the ground, and once we are off of the ground the other items on the list will be much easier to achieve. I cant thank you all enough for this valueable feedback. Re: Soundrts Map making Hi,There are several problems with your map:when you define players, you've got two options:you can use the starting_squares starting_units and starting_resources statements, something like this:starting_squares a1 z1starting_units townhall 5 peasant farmstarting_resources 500 500This will set up 2 starting positions, at a1 and z1, with a townhall 5 peasants and a farm, and with 500 resources of each type. If you would want to add a third player, for example at m1, all you would have to do is modify the starting_squares to include m1 and increase the amount of maximum players with nb_players_max.The other way you can add players is with the player command:player 500 500 a1 5 peasant farm b1 townhallWith this statement, we create a player and specify the resources, units and starting squares on one line. This is also the only way to start a player out with units on several squares or to have different players with different resources. The downside to this is that you will have to copy-past the player statement, so for large maps this becomes impractical. To be honest, I don't know if you can combine these two statements, eg. define 3 starting squares with base units and have another player statement giving you 4 players in total, but as a starting map maker you might not want to worry about that yet.Since you have two players with different units, you will have to use the player statement twice, don't use starting squares as you already give those in the player statement. Ai's are also players when you make a map, you only use computer_only if you have a scripted ai like the campaign. Re: Is it worth the money to buy a Victor Reader Stream?
Re: Is it worth the money to buy a Victor Reader Stream? I have the same thoughts as BlindNinja. If I wanted something dedicated to books and podcasts, I would get an android. Nowadays you can get an android phone for under 100 bucks. To make the battery last longer, Turn location and flight mode on. If you wanted it to last even longer, you could root the device and install an app like screen standby, this would let you turn the screen off completely. When I was in school I had one, I wasn't a fan of pressing one button to find your books, at least on the one I had you had to do that. Re: Can someone teach me how to edit audio? Hi. There's really no better way to learn audio editing, or anything else for that matter, than reading guides and manuals, understanding the stuff in question and experimenting: blundering on the way, messing up a couple of important files and shouting everything to hell - and then - trying again and gaining some knew knowledge and skills on the way for sure. It's also a truely important point not to be afraid and just start somewhere. At least that has been my way of doing it and it still works the same when I'm starting up with something new and previously unknown.
