Re: your favorite sound chip?

I've always been a junky for wavetable/psg/sample chips. So, roughly in order, my favorite sound chips are:1. The sound chip used in the PS1 and PS2 (when music is sequenced, not streamed). It's basically an upgraded version of the Snes's SPC700 but it has more channels, more sample ram, and better reverb.2. Snes (SPC700). It has a warm sound that I like because of gaussian interpolation. It has very limited memory though for samples (I know this from experience because I write Snes music). So, it's a special kind of challenge to make use of the warmth of the SPC700 with the low amount of sample memory and do something that makes the best of both.3. Nes (2a03 and 2a07). I'm not a fan of the simple stuff because I tend to gear toward more complex, but the complex stuff is really cool.. And it's a popular chip to work with, so there's a lot of good stuff for it.4. Konami VRC6. If you enjoyed using it once, you'll never stop using it afterwards. It's obviously meant to complement the 2A03 and it does that really well.5. mos Technology sid (c64). Not a fan of how overboard some of the music can get to squeeze more out of the limited channels, but the chip is literally a high quality subtractive synth, just with limited polyphony. You can't fault it for having an emphasis on traditional synth design. If it had more channels, then making music for it would be scarily similar to doing it in an 80s studio with all your modular setups. Furthermore some people developed cool strategies to play samples on the C64, so I find the chip intriguing.6. PC Engine, can't remember what the sound chip is. From what little I've heard, it sounds like it could really be made to do awesome things if used right. Would absolutely love to see music for a Castlevania game or something like that made for the chip. Maybe it exists, I just haven't gotten around to looking it up. The Konami KSS chip is also tied for this spot because while the PC Engine has slightly better specs in most cases, I'm spoiled by the very few soundtracks I've heard for the KSS which have all been awesome. It's late 80s Konami though, what do you expect lol7. Namko N163. Would tie it with the other wavetable chips above, but it has a lot more distortion. Still, in the right context it sounds really cool. I'd also put the Famicom Disc System (FDS) here, but it only has one channel and 1 channel is boring lol. That said, it can make interesting sounds and it is cleaner than the other wavetable chips.8. Paula (amiga). Too few channels for my taste, and also not a fan of how you're locked to a certain stereo seperation, but people have done cool things with this chip. I also like how raw and gritty the samples become. It's a polar opposite to the Snes and playstation, which for me, isn't necessarily a good or a bad thing, it's just different. I suppose if you're going for a natural sound that's clean, it would be a bad thing, but obviously that will depend on what you want to do.I also like listening to GBA, Nintendo DS and N64 music, among other things that use samples. I'll admit I really am not an FM fan. I appreciate and enjoy the sound when it's done super well, but otherwise I don't like it as much because it sounds like it's trying to be something it's not, if that makes any sense.

@redfox no, turning off voiceover would be a bad idea. The game is however fully compatible with voiceover without trouble, you can read everything on screen with standard vo gestures and play by tapping the buttons. As I was playing it just now for a couple of hours before finally being victorious, I can highly recommend it, its surprisingly addictive >

Re: Accessibility headway with music trackers.

Open MPT is the only one I can use semi-reliably. The only thing I haven't figured out how to do at all is create multisample instruments. You can import SFZs and do it that way, but I want to do it normally if possible. Aside from that, I have actually started some modules with it, complete with patterns, the order list, and customizing the different envelopes on the instruments. It's still a very painful process for me to produce something with it, especially since tracking in general isn't what I'm used to, but I am getting better at it . One day I plan to start some kind of podcast on it, since I think it would help others. But I'm lazy, and I still have large gaps in my knowledge, so I have no clue when or if this will happen. My experiences with Famitracker are mixed. It's easy enough to set up instruments but there isn't much in the way of looking at your pattern grid and this discourages me. Also, I don't know how to add effects columns. I'm the type of person who likes to add a lot of effects to things, I don't just want bland notes. So, I have given up writing serious things with Famitracker until it is easier to read things. Sadly, that doeswn't look very likely with the way current development affairs are going. Last I heard, there is no official development, and the branches that exist are either discontinued or are slow, with 0cc being the only one that's considered active. I do like 0cc though, but don't know if the guy is interested or able to address accessibility improvements. I would guess not.I haven't looked at Raster music tracker. In fact this topic is the first i've ever heard of it, but it looks interesting from the web site at least. I'll have to see what I can make of it.

Re: Accessibility of online therapy apps?

2019-02-11 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Jayde via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Accessibility of online therapy apps?

A few points here:1. I live in Canada, not the United States, but in general, TalkSpace and Betterhelp are set up so that you pay for a service. if you do not get the service, and if there is no record of you receiving the service you paid for, then you will be able to pursue legal action, and such a thing would be an absolute media shitstorm if it broke. You could make their life absolute hell if that did happen to you, and while I know that's not terribly comforting and not an answer you want to hear in pursuit of therapy, the reality is that, knowing this, these companies would be extremely unlikely to reject you due to your blindness. I suppose nothing is impossible, however. My suggestion would be to write to them before signing up in order to ask them if their services are screenreader-friendly. Best cast, they are, and you give them a try. Worst case, they ignore you outright, and you're up a creek...but at least you haven't bought and paid for something.2. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the accessibility of either platform and do not have the available means to test the services themselves (financially or time-wise), but I would be willing, if you like, to write to the company and ask the question posed in point #1 myself, so you don't have to. I could then give you an answer regarding the accessibility of one or both companies, providing I got a response.3. Your bravery is to be commended. People can and do lose their jobs and stuff over outing mental illness, but I really wish that weren't the case. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone has their own various struggles to go through, and we all need help from time to time. Whatever your problems may be, I wish you the best of luck in finding the help you need.4. Pursuant to that point, I'm offering to help if I can, even if it's just an unofficial/casual thing. I am not a registered therapist, psychotherapist or counsellor. I am in semester 4 of a social service work diploma program, which means that while I know a great deal about social work in general, I am not a qualified, accredited expert just yet. That said, I am trained in counselling techniques and am quite up to date on various approaches which may help you, depending on the nature of your concerns. You don't know me from a hole in the wall, though, so I will more than understand if you find this forward or offputting. I won't push this offer, I'll just leave it here. Reach out in PM if it's something you're interested in making a go of. Good luck either way though.

I have ignored it for 10 years, tried to ignore that I haven’taccepted it. It is not that i haven’t tried, it is that I am ignoring that I haven’t accepted it yet.I tried. I tried telling my dad, that I haven’t accepted it 10 years later. But he doesn’t understand. He first asked if this was a problem for a week, and then when I said, no, ever since it happened, he thought I was talking about an x girlfriend.I was going to ask for videos of when I could see, so I would know what life was like. Because to tell you the truth, I don’t remember how much I was able to see, or how useful it was, I have an idea, but I just remember colors the most. I thought watching videos might give me a sense of how life was with my very limited vision. I was going to ask, but my dad doesn’t understand. And I know I wasn’t too clear, but I tried. I tried. It took me until 9th grade  to ask about my past, which he knew nothing about, and until now to ask for videos, and that didn’t work either. And my mom is dead! The person who would understand with a few words, the person who did know my past! She’s gone!

No. The reason you're only getting 1 tile of range might be because the sword actually turns with you, it doesn't always swing forward. If your last step was south, you're swinging south. Running has nothing to do with the sword's range.

Re: monthly chat February 2019

Retrospectively longn post ahead, watch out!I graduated in computer engineering right before christmas, finally! It's a four and a half years long bachelor's degree of 8 semesters and 5 internships. I'm currently on vacation before starting to work for real for Microsoft, Redmond. It's going so fast!I've had a lot of interviews, articles and even some TV lately, because apparently it's not common to finish a bachelor's degree with a perfect score whilst being blind even though I think being blind doesn't have to do much with grades. Anyway, I had the chance to give the blind community some exposure so I gladly did those media things. I don't know why, but here in Quebec (it's in Canada) there has been a lot of news recently about blind people and blindness in general. This is a good thing. After one of the article, the grandmother of a 11 years-old boy who apparently has the same disease as me wanted us to meet. He's very smart and super positive about that even if he was diagnosed only two years ago. He reminds me of myself when I was his age, though he's actually further ahead than I was, because he's already developing Mods for MineCraft in Eclipse. Hee's also passionate about computers so he's really like a mini me. We'll keep contact so I can give him some advice. This way, he won't have to struggle as much as I did to find solutions along the way. I also promised him I'd chat with the Ubisoft crew so he could visit the studios, he was nuts, apparently it was one of his biggest dream, let's make that come true shall we ? Gotta remember to do that. It's been frickin cold here. I walked with a friend around a lake nearby when it was minus 26 degrees Celsius. After 5 minutes I wasn't feeling my legs anymore, it was kinda stupid to do that, especially with really thin pants. It then got a bit warmer. Good you might think ? Hell no. The thick layer of ice covering every outdoor surface whatsoever started to melt. Combine ice with water on top and you develop a new skill: walking without having to lift your feet. There was massive accidents involving 150 cars, 75 suffered damage. And of course, because I just graduated, the school closed twice in two weeks where it never happened a single time in my whole bachelor's degree, screw you weather, get your things together.I'm currently trying to get a work visa to work in the US. By I'm trying, I mean Microsoft is trying for me, though they keep shooting me a ton of paperwork I have to fill. So this is my last month of vacation unless I'm delayed by my visa not arriving on time. Delays would mean more vacation though... Kidding of course. Right Microsoft? if you see this, I never said that.Game-wise, I restarted to play A hero's call and man that game is awesome, I forgot how cool it was. I made a necromancer, I'll see if it was a good choice. The navigation system is so brilliant, just plain genius in my opinion. With quick audio clues on your sides indicating interactables or openings / narrowing as well as useful beaconing system. Plus this system has the pro of dealing nicely with the usual back and front 3D sound problem, you just don't hear and require to hear what's behind you. I also tried your adventure from non vision goms and it's pretty cool.I also started to develop an app to make browsing reddit blazing fast, but the guy who wrote a nuget package a I use stopped answering my e-mails after I requested a missing feature in his nuget, so perhaps I'll have to implement it myself which is kind of a bummer. I don't know if this app will be useful to anyone, but I'll open-source it. I just prefer desktop app to browse reddit instead of the web site loading dynamically the content with JAWS not realizing the DOM changed.And... voilà! I think I'm gonna stop there. I always write too much, which makes me think of those reports and exams I won't have to do again.Yippers and cheers!

Re: I need help eliminating visual schizophrenia and synesthesia

[The vOICe] is a program written by Peter Meijer that converts a visual image into sound. In many respects it tries to instill a sense of synethesia to "see with sound" as it were. How it works is each pixel of the image is represented as a tone, with the pitch determining how high or low each pixel is. The sound plays in stereo from left to right over time, and that stereo panning over time tells you each pixels horizontal position. The brightness of a pixel is also represented by how loud or quiet the sound is.So for example, if you hear a high pitch on your left at the beginning of the sound, that would mean there's something in the upper left of the image, and if you hear a low pitch tone on the right near the end of the sound, that means there's something in the lower right of the image. There's a training guiide with examples [here] you can listen to, and ther software itself is free. There's been some ongoing research on building portable versions people can walk around with normally for some time, and so far there are two smart glass devices that can run the android version of the vOICe. One woman in particular even managed to regain a sense of depth perception while using it, which you can read about [here].

Re: suggestions needed for good quality laptop

I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad 320-15ABR earlier this year, and ended up selling it about two weeks later.  After topping off the Ram, and adding an SSD, it was still giving me hell for what I needed it to do.      They are not terrible machines, but they don't run very well for more advanced multitasking, like studios, etc.  It  was worth noting that my model had the  AMD A12 CPU in it, so I couldn't speak for the celeron systems or those with the other CPUs.  I know when it'd load NVDA, NVDA would stutter  some often.I did find this very interesting and thought I'd share, but there's a company that sells their memory on Amazon, and probably on other sites as well, called Adamanta.  I was rather skeptical at first on using them, but after reading many different reviews, I purchased  a couple of 16GB sticks for my laptop, one at first for testing, then one later after I could verify it was working nicely.   THese modules run extremely well and have not given me any issues.  A16GB module of 2666MHz DDR4 PC4 notebook memory ran me about $92, whereas Corsair or something similar would run about $140 here in the USA.    When I checked Task Manager, it sowd the memory actually running at 2667MHz and yes it's dual channel supported as well.

Re: what good keyboards are there for android for the blind to type with?

I finally got a phone. I settled on the samsung galaxy 9a. Too early to tell, but first performance and accessibility related stuff leaves me with a very good impression of the whole thing. As the voice xbi or however that thing is spelled will probably never be available in Spanish I decided to get an app to remap the button and its pretty neat actually, because you can have a few more functions, the mapping is pretty versatile as well.I tried Wireboard. A few minor setup hassles and a website that is practically broken with absolutely 0 documentation made me almost quit, but then the app magically connected and so on. But then the next disappointment came: Typing in the Wireboard window using the pc keyboard was horribly unreliable, at least when entering my phone number in an app. So what I did was type whatever i wanted in a notepad file, then literally copy paste the text in the window and it worked just wonderfully.

Re: I need help eliminating visual schizophrenia and synesthesia

Facinating. I don't think you'll find many treatment options for synethesia available, at least not in conventional circles as its not considered a disease so much as a cognitive state.  Most things like that are often found in more eclectic occult or spiritualist sources, so i'd suggest trying meditation with a combination of conditioned association and mindfulness to try managing it. For example, find a state where you see the color black, and try to focus and hold on to that color while introducing a single sound over time. I'm quite curious how your current cognitive state would react to visual sonification with something like the vOICe though, with practice it could be beneficial for an improved sense of spacial processing.

Re: suggestions needed for good quality laptop

I got a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P back in 2014. It was big, heavy, prone to getting hot if I used it hard for a long time, had about four hours of battery life, and is still working to this day. It's banged up, it's literally falling apart, but it still goes. It also had excellent speakers. It wasn't fun to transport, but it was a solid laptop. Nice key depth, too.In November of  2017 I got hold of an HP notebook of some kind (I misremember the exact specs right now, but I kitted it out pretty nicely). This thing goes for about nine hours if the lid is closed (so it's great for music or audio and whatnot), and about six hours with the lid up. Its keyboard is absolute trash (I've had to replace it twice, and may need a third replacement eventually, but for now I'm using a cheap external keyboard that does the job) and its speakers are fairly tinny...serviceable, but not great. But it's seriously fast (boots in about eleven seconds), is very quiet, is extremely light (I can just tuck it under an arm and go) and its build quality, apart from the keyboard, is quite good. I shove it in a backpack pretty much daily, and there's still no sign of wiggle on the lid or anything like that.So I can't make any recommendations, but I like my HP with the external keyboard, personally. The Lenovo had its upsides though. I've always wanted to play with one of those Dell machines, though.

In his defense, the number of actually good admins in the community is incredibly low, and they are spread out between various games, though Redspot going down and Firefight just coasting  has made that less of a problem lately.Seems like most of them are on the MUDS, and the rest are on STW, at least in the English speaking world. Not only that but you need to keep cycling between them as they become too busy or bored of the game.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

2019-02-11 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Jayde via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Ironcross,Gender has been socially created. You don't get to reject it just because it causes problems for people. You can no more simply wish a hurricane out of existence because it's about to trash your house. Gender as a social construct is real. And yes, it absolutely does cause problems. When girls are dressed in "girl colours" as infants, when they're encouraged to play with toys which enforce gender stereotypes, and when this also happens to boys as well, it enforces society's idea of gender on children long before they have any concrete idea of what the hell they are. This is why you're seeing a lot more gender-neutral toys and colours and general consciousness. When a baby is born with a penis, society works very hard to tell that child, in thousands of little ways, that this is how they should act. The same goes when a child is born with a vagina instead. From a very young age, children are guided to think in certain ways, play in certain ways, interact in certain ways. Gender dysphoria often comes up because that child's brain is not, in fact, programmed to think the same way, and they begin to experience a disconnect between what they feel and what they're expected to feel. This pretty much slams the point home. Social construct. Like it or lump it, but please stop arguing it. Nobody gets to arbitrarily ignore reality just because it's inconvenient. And regarding privilege? If you experience little undeserved bonuses because of your skin colour, then you experience white privilege. Game, set, match. If you do not experience oppression, you are experiencing white privilege. Game, set, match all over again. This doesn't make you or any other white person bad by default. It doesn't mean you're awful. It doesn't mean all people of colour, or other minorities for that matter, are by their nature lesser. It simply means that (again with the social construct thing) we have systematically treated these people and their ancestors badly for generations. You can't just hand-wave that and make it go away. It doesn't stop existing just because we're better now than we've been in the past. You are by no means responsible for the awful stuff that happened in the past, but if you deny white privilege, you are a definite part of the present-day problem. A smaller one than those who actively try and make life difficult for minorities, I'll grant you, but still part of the problem. If you really do want to help on the equality front, the very, very first thing you must do is to acknowledge the existence of white privilege as a thing that is still happening. You can't help otherwise, because you aren't seeing the problem. it really is that simple, that clear-cut. None of this disempowers the voices of people of colour in any way. You're not saying "See? We're better than you". You're saying, "Yes, we have advantages granted to us that you haven't had. Let's work on that". See the difference? I hope you do.For context, btw, I am thirty-five (turned thirty-five last year, actually). I'm not just an idealistic young student with a head full of doctrine and no ability to process it. I've studied this stuff academically. I've read quite literally hundreds of articles (both academic and not), I've read textbooks, I've attended lectures, I've read the facts. There is no un-seeing this. I speak from a position of considerable experience. But please remember that one of my primary thrusts throughout this whole thing is that boosting the voices of those who have historically not been heard is of paramount importance. We don't get to decide all the paths that must be walked, but our first step is acknowledging the need for change, and further acknowledging that our historic position of power is at the heart of it.

Re: New Text-based Roguelike For IOS and Android: Path Of Adventure

OK, I rather suspected that might be the case for burnt webs, but haven't tried out absolutely everything. Honestly, there's a lot of hidden content. I left a bull whip on an island once, and had the chance to go back the same way, but didn't and have always wondered about it. - the road not taken, sigh.and I don't think I've ever gotten the 7th elixir, but thx for the heads up.I also wanted to add some more about how the witch works so players understand, and mention that you need to use a sharpening stone before clicking the shop button if you want to sell a weapon for more money. For the next version, some ideas include, having the fire spell do 2 damage, 4 with hat or pipe, and 8 with both. could be interesting, especially if it discounts enemy defense.or a separate damage spell, but there's already too much to find and not enough days to find it all. That being said a heal spell with the same numbers could be interesting, but this could get into changing game dynamics too much. It has a pretty good balance, and a heal spell might alter a lot. For another class beyond Thief I was thinking the cursed path. Your character has a status ailment. -1 life for each day on the path. Not an item that can be sold. Curse does not work in dungeons, but poisin would, and poisin on the path would be -2 life 1 for curse and 1 for poisin.Call it impossible mode. I still haven't beaten Theif, so I don't even know if this would even be possible.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything in post 35 I must say. Though Brandon you always seem to mention the extreme right as an afterthought because it's expected, and focus holy on the extreme left, which tends to make you seem really biased. You also said you don't mind allot of the left's ideals but their current party, which is fare, but that seems to go against allot of what you've said before. I mean maybe you do think that but you haven't really shown it...I can understand Jade's point of view too, but considering how many members of the very races in question are starting to be against groups like BLM, or allowing illegals in, I think that speaks for it's self, why not ask them about their reasoning in the context of how they grew up as well? There is a reason that people over 35 don't tend to like these things, and it's not just because they've been ground down by the heal of society or something, but because they've matured emotionally and they are now able to see the bigger picture and look past the media panic to a degree. As for transgendered people being mentally ill I was recently of the same opinion until I saw someone lay it out really well in a thread on Reddit.Basically they said that gender dysphoria was the mental illness, and that becoming trans was the cure to that in the huge majority of cases based on the suicide rate, but since most people can't afford a full transition, the meds we have only treat some of the symptoms without touching the underlying issue, and society is very harsh on them even in the developed world, that they are at even more of a disadvantage.Said person sighted a crazy amount of studies from many reputable looking sources but I didn't really want to go through them all. Many trans people also answered in the affirmative with their own experiences... So that was quite enlightening and made allot of sense to me.I realize that I shouldn't take it from just one person on the internet, but these people seemed pretty knowledgeable and the user in question wasn't the only one that said it, they just said it best.

Yes marks would be for instance placed at top left and bottom right, then fill in the square/rectangle bounded by the marks with tile of choice, or if you had more marks to make somewhat more complex shapes like triangles or angled rectangles. Auto drawing means it just places as you move without you having to press a key but it's only a small savings in time anyway. That's great that you have a preview feature!Have you made a way to quickly jump to coordinates, save the map without using the  menu, and delete tiles/undo your last command? The second one isn't necessary but it will probably cause people to save more often. And what about resizing if you want to add more to your map later on or get rid of extra space, E.G. remove existing tiles from 00 to 10 10 or from 100 100 to 90 90, or add new blank tiles from 100 100 to 110 110.And does this use user made zones for announcing area to the screen reader? If so, how many levels can you have, for instance sofa in the back room of the tavern in the village, or just sofa in the tavern's back room.

Re: suggestions needed for good quality laptop

17, there are actually safeguards in place for that. A laptop will not let you flash wrong image.  Also, there is the battery in case of power failure, and many laptops backup the old bios, which you can restore with a key combination if you somehow corrupt the bios.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

I reject this societal construct of gender because it doesn't do any good for anyone, therefore, sex and gender are synonymous. As for white privilege, No I have not been called the N word or other pejorative terms, and I agree that we don't need to be doing this towards one another. I have not been discriminated against due to skin color, etc. But putting a label on not having bad experience, then affixing that label to the color of someone's skin, but not of someone's skin, of a group of people, that is systematic racism. So not only as I've said previously does it oppress the groups we use to site how evil the white man is, it teaches them it's OK to play the victim mentality game.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Bashue,If you purport to give someone advice, it suggests that you think you know, at least in that specific instance, better than they do. It supposes that you have something to say which will help, else why speak at all? So in that moment of advice-giving, part of you must be thinking something like, "I have something which will help". combined with your own self-blaming mentality, and the way you phrase things, and the points you make, it's easy to draw a map. You at first basically said that people have to not give in to their inner darkness, and that if and when they do, all the bad shit that happens to them is their fault, and they should take ownership. And then when I brought up examples of where otherwise innocent-seeming people still get punished, you first tried the "god can be evil" argument, or tried to, and then gave out a version of your theology which says that we must've done something evil prior to being born into this world. Nope. all the nope. And again, when confronted, you backpedalled and said you were really only applying it to yourself. If you'd started from that particular point of vantage, it's likely I wouldn't have engaged you at all, because you're free to think the moon is made of cheese as long as no one is getting hurt. it's when you start making generalizations that I take issue. What follows may shock some readers. If you are triggered easily, please proceed cautiously beyond this point.Yup, this is an emotional slam, but beyond this point, I simply refuse to engage on this subject. On October 28, 2005, my nineteen-year-old brother woke around 5:00 a.m. to make his lunch for work. When my father woke an hour later, he found my brother unresponsive on the kitchen floor. Emergency services were called, and my brother was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. He died of an enlarged heart. There was no warning at all.Bashue, your theology says that my brother deserved what he got somehow. He must've done, or else it wouldn't have happened. He gave in to his inner darkness, either in his current life or in some previous part of it that no one can credit. But here's what I know. He was a good brother. He stood up for me. He could be a jerk sometimes - all siblings are probably idiots sometimes - but he meant well, by and large. He had a partner. He had many friends. He worked hard and wasn't afraid of standing out if it meant helping someone. He had a bit of a hot temper, and didn't like showing himself to be vulnerable. He was not perfect - nobody's perfect, of course - but virtually everyone who knew him would have said he was a pretty good guy.He did not deserve to die randomly at age nineteen, with his entire adult life ahead of him.If given the choice to believe you, or to believe me (remember, I knew my brother and you did not), who do you think most sane people are going to believe? Are we to accept that you, or the theology you espouse, somehow can justify the loss of my brother by fabricating some heretofore-unknown crime or heinous act which necessitated that he be punished by dying? How do we do this when there is absolutely no evidence to support the claim, and plenty of evidence to support the alternative, that he died randomly and with no relation to his life choices? Or maybe you think it was we, his family, who deserved to be punished by having him snatched away. At that point, we get to talk about collateral damage, plus the burden of proof which calls you forward to demonstrate that all of us who were affected by my brother's loss deserved to suffer in this way.Just...nope.At this point, it just feels like you're trying to flail and snatch for an explanation, any explanation, which tries to make sense of occurrences that have no real rhyme or reason. You want so desperately to believe you are the product of a generally benevolent creator that you are willing to forgive that creator anything, and are willing to shift blame literally anywhere else, in order to vindicate him. it doesn't matter to you if the target is a twelve-year-old child, a faultless victim of sexual abuse, a trans individual, a young disease victim, a hit-and-run victim, a person living in a home when a tornado wrecks it. Nope. You would rather scrabble for a reason to blame them, even if you'd never confront them with it directly, than just admitting that if there really is a creator, he's pretty freaking unpredictable, and probably not worth trusting.I...have no words left. I am stunned, disheartened, furious. This is the greatest and saddest delusion I have ever borne witness to on this forum. Indulge if you will, but for the love of all that's good, have a heart and consider the impact of your words before you simply spray them all over a public venue like this. I'm saying this as a forum user, and not as a moderator. This is by no means an official censure, and you can ignore it if you wish without any fear of reprisal. But honest

Re: (Xbox One) The Division 2 Private Beta Accessibility Discovery

Sightlesskombat missed it but there's actually a spoken prompt on the main menu telling you how to turn it on too, so should be all doable without sighted assistance. To the questions about the mechanic and accessibility - despite technically being the same genre as Diablo 3, it plays very differently. It is a third person cover based shooter, like gears of war.The rest of this reply is mainly in reply to crashmaster and anyone else who may have similar views. Here's my take on it:1. The game isn't released yet, someone else may still beat them to it. But as it stands it's the first AAA game to have voiced menus. The world has never seen such a thing before. That's big in itself. 2. Ubisoft, one of the biggest publishers in the business, has just poured money into considering blind accessibility. I don't think I really need to explain how much of a big deal that is, and how much awareness will be raised by a game that's as high profile as D2.3. There has been some doubt over whether CVAA would have any actual benefit, that devs would all just rather just dump comms than meet requirements for text to speech etc. This is conclusive proof that this is not the case.4. As has been said many times even on these forums, games are supposed to be fun, not a chore. While there are plenty of super hardcore people here who are willing to memorise menus and use menu guides and trial and error, that isn't representative of the wider population. Tell literally any sighted gamer that the menus would be hidden and they would need to use trial and error and memorising and menu guides and they would A. Laugh in your face B. Not play the game C. Pan it as the worst game they'd ever encountered. People here are often a bit desensitised, but I think it's worth remembering just how awful an experience blind gamers are forced to battle through compared to everyone else. Point being that there are lots of blind gamers who will never play without accessible menus, regardless of how accessible gameplay is. Entirely justifiably IMO.5. It's a proof of concept. I've spoken to many developers who are scratching their head over this kind of stuff, and Ubisoft have just handed it to them on a plate, a nice demo of how it works for other developers to play with and learn from.6. As it is the gameplay isn't accessible to people with no sight, but obviously most people who are blind can still see. Text can be way harder to see than gameplay visuals - for context your avatar takes up a full 50% of the height of the screen, and the UI text is a tiny fraction of that. It will make a tremendous different to low vision & legally blind folk.7. The game is playable with sighted assistance. With a few changes the game may require less sighted assistance. And if there is one thing this work demonstrates, it's that Ubisoft - or Massive anyway - are willing to go beyond what's required for complaince.8. This is it, this is the first taste of what's to come. I for one have never been more hopeful about mainstream accessibility. I don't just work in accessibility  for blind gamers, I work across all kinds of disabilities and in the 11 years that I've been doing that I cant think of a turning point as significant as this. This game is a glimpse of the future, that future is here and it is looking bright. So again, to crashmaster and anyone else - please think about the bigger picture, and what this will mean for the wider industry. It's something everyone should be happy about. I am not blind, my vision is actually better than 20/20, and I'm still ludicrously happy.

Re: your favorite sound chip?

Here are some examples of chips I listed in post 2, which has been updated with some more chips that popped into my head.1. RP2A03, used on the Nintendo Entertainment System and its variants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi7qrZo110M2. DMG-CPU-B, used on the Game Boy line of handhelds. Sound wise, it is related to the 2A03, but with a few changes (the triangle channel has been replaced with a custom programmable wave channel, and the noise channel sounds a bit different): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JTeN8sy3Wc3. Atari POKEY, used in the Atari 8-bit computer family, as well as in Ball Blazer and Commando for the Atari 7800. Most people make Atari music with with a program called RMT (Raster Music Tracker): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSrRkFfsQrI4. Texas Instruments SN76489. This chip was very basic, with only 3 square waves and a white noise generator with two modes, white noise and periodic noise. This example primarily uses the noise channel's periodic noise mode to create a bassline, since the noise channel could be set in a mode where it stole the pitch information from the third square channel, leaving only 2 square channels to be used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM-vXscAoVA4. General Instrument AY-3-8910, used in a lot of computers such as the Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, and ZX Spectrum. A rebranded version by Yamaha, the YM2149, was also released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdROMMP-YAM

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Ironcross, I am torn between ripping your arguments apart and just shaking my head. I'm leaning more toward the latter, because you've got some ideas about the left that just don't work, and frankly, I had a friend tell me today that you can't help everyone, and I've come to realize (I knew it before, of course, but sometimes we all need reminding) that it's true. What I would like to say is the following:1. Gender is a societal construct. It is not sex. This is science. This is not opinion. If you have not done extensive research on this - and I have, by the way - then you are not qualified to have a valid opinion on the subject, any more than I'm qualified to talk to a physicist about nuclear fission. I hate to be sharp, but there it is. At some point, a person just has to say "you don't know enough, and your opinion isn't going to fly", and that's where we are on this specific point.2. White privilege simply means that we have set up a society where white people often have unearned advantages not enjoyed by others. Again, this is fact. This happens in America, in Canada, in Britain, in lots of other largely white-dominated places. If you're white, there are things you've simply never gone through on account of your skin colour. This doesn't make you actually better; that's not what white privilege means. It just means you've gotten some breaks you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Again, this happens. This is not debatable. If you refuse to believe this, it's on you, and I can't change your mind, but it's not supportable.3. White privilege has nothing to do with whether or not we believe minorities are better. And here's a surprise: I agree with you that we should not be arbitrarily deciding how to improve the lives of minorities. And we don't. We listen to them. We include them. We want their voices heard loud and clear (at least, most of us do, the good ones do). We don't just want to oppress them, decide what's best for them and then do it, because that perpetuates the very thing you protest so strongly against. And you're right to. But when minorities say they've experienced problems, we listen. When minorities say that they have not historically had equal voices, we understand that, and in a lot of cases we agree with them. So we try to use our power - because god knows we have a lot of it, even still - to try and get other more resistant individuals to listen, and to relax systems which are still supporting racism and classism and all sorts of things. The fundamental ideology of the left says "Tell us what you need", and then seeks to fill it. There are democrats on the mid-left who basically just want a more inclusive form of capitalism, but that won't fix things. There are mid-leftists who want to try and make the world racially colour-blind, because they think that's the best way. That won't work either. There are a lot of dated, half-busted systems that most people don't want to change, because change engenders new things they're not used to. That's understandable, to a point, but most of the people who don't want change are people who are benefiting from the system in some way, or who would stand to lose if the system changed. I am pretty far to the left.4. Based on some of the things you've said, you are not nearly as right as you think you are. Right of center, maybe, but you're not the raging conservative you pretend to be if you truly have problems with inequality. Unless, of course, that's just lip service, and you'd rather everyone just shut up and let everyone get back to the task of passive (and sometimes active) oppression.5. Political correctness. One of the left's greatest failings - they've got a few - is cannibalism, and a willingness to jump down the throat of whosoever misuses terms or makes an error. I actually don't like this at all, so I'm partially in agreement with you. But here, look. Rather than quibble about "undocumented" vs "illegal", how about we actually make the system better? Because if you require documents to be legal, then by definition, lacking documents means you're illegal; this isn't political speech or dodging, it's fact. And the term "illegal" has a whole lot of connotations which in many cases are not deserved or justified by people who enter the country without appropriate documentation. You won't ever catch me saying that that whole situation isn't wobbly and potentially dangerous, by the way, but as far as seeing as the same threat you do? come on, let's get real for a sec. The grand majority of crimes committed in America are committed by American citizens, people who were born, raised and inculcated right in your own backyard. I daresay addressing the problems which created people like that might be just a teeny bit more important than building a wall across the southern border, the way Trump wishes to. We do have to do something about what's happening, but a border wall is not the answer. And after

Accessibility of online therapy apps?

2019-02-11 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : turtlepower17 via Audiogames-reflector

Accessibility of online therapy apps?

Hi all,I've been fighting with myself for months on whether to post this, but recent events are piling up for me and my fear of potential consequences for posting such a thing is being outweighed by all the shit I've been going through.Over the past couple of years, there have been a few online platforms for receiving therapy which have cropped up. You can text chat with a counselor or psychologist, as well as video chat. The two I've heard the most about and which seem reputable, from my research, are Talkspace and Betterhelp. I'm leaning more towards Talkspace because a couple of podcasts I listen to sometimes offer promo codes so that when you sign up, you get a discount on your first month of service with them. The main thing that is stopping me, though, is whether or not such platforms are accessible. I know that many custom video chatting services are a nightmare to work with when it comes to using a screen reader. I don't necessarily want to write to the sites in question and ask if they are aware whether their platforms are screen reader friendly, though, because if I do that, and sign up, they might decide not to work with me because I'm blind. I think it would be better to disclose that later, once I've already been matched with a therapist, much like most of us only disclose our blindness once we've gotten a job interview. As sad as it is, people do discriminate, and I don't want to be out money if A. the app turns out to not be accessible after I sign up, or B. people decide they're uncomfortable after I've already paid. So, does anyone have any experience working with these platforms? Since I am well aware that this is a sensitive, stigmatized topic that most people don't want to attach their names to, hell, I'm squeamish about it myself, if you would rather respond to this via PM, please feel free to do so. The closest I got to an answer was on an Applevis forum post where someone asked this question, but never got any responses, which I can only assume is due to the fact that this is such a taboo topic.Oh, one more thing, the reason I'm not pursuing a more traditional approach is twofold. First, there would be major issues with me being able to get transportation to and from appointments, not to mention that the people I live with would not be at all supportive of me doing this, to put it mildly. Secondly, most private therapists charge a lot more than these sites do, and no, we're not talking about something that's too good to be true, at least not from what I can tell. Betterhelp apparently costs $40 a week, and I think Talkspace is slightly more than that. I'm going to struggle to pay for this as it is, but it's better than the alternative, since most therapists charge upwards of $100 per session. So, if anyone can shed some light on the experience they've had with such services, I'm primarily interested in the accessibility of the IOS apps, as well as how well they work in a browser, as well as any comments you might have about whether you found the therapists to be accepting of blindness/disability in general, I would sincerely appreciate it. And, again, if you do have experiences but don't feel comfortable sharing, please don't feel pressured into doing so. I am well aware that this is a public forum, and that people lose their jobs over having their mental health struggles outed all the time. Thanks in advance.

No rush.

I think he/she's talking about a feature that would let you place marks between two points and then select a tile to place in that spot.I could be wrong though.Later!

Re: somethin else, again...

It's the nature of Apple devices. Apple does not follow the if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality very well. They always pull a windows vista except when Microsoft did that, they learned from their mistake when they saw folks jumping back to xp in droves. Apple never does.I'm not saying this to specifically bash either, but Droidflip for example. Hasn't been updated since who knows how long, and it still works on Android Pi, probably half a dozen major versions after this game's release. Same with audio archery, that's still going strong. Granted those games did not make such heavy use of complicated tools, but try any age-old game on IOS and watch it crash.

Re: My second BGT project, Screaming Strike!

This is one of those quality over quantity things... the game is probably the simplest thing ever... but the atmosphere is just so funny you can't help coming back for more. I only wish that the game could support changing voices internally. My windows 10 TTS settings for some reason doesn't effect the game, which means I can't play the japanese version because it always tries to use microsoft david as its default even though I change it in windows speech settings.

Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

@nolly That's exactly it, and I think that people were completely ignoring the fact that the developer clearly stated this was a pilot run and they were well aware of the problems that existed in the game.As for voice acting, you might want to get in contact with someone like Munawar or Out of Site who did this same thing, i.e hiring a production team/voice acting crew *matter of fact, most of the voice actors in the flight simulator game Three-D Velocity were from this community, so if you offer this openly I'm sure you could get good results.* That game had some superior voice acting you wouldn't see in many other games. Long and short of it is that you don't always have to try and hammer out a deal with the pro-folks, as several members of the community are happy to offer up their experience. You did mention the issue of people with different audio setups and it being difficult to manage that, well firstly having multiple audio production folks can speed up that process some, and second, you can generally be pretty selective if you're auditioning voice actors.

Re: Bad trip, a mud more deserving of a larger player base

As far as I know,  The quest system is lacking. You ask for a quest and he gives you a random target to kill  or object to find.  I use MUDRammer  for iOS, so I can play virtually any mud without any trouble.  As far as classes go, it is your standard warrior, mage, ranger, and thief.  Classes are human, elf, and giant.  Or at least, those of the ones I know of. However, what I like about the weapon system is that it offers you a gun at the beginning of the game, so you can kill anybody in your scanning range if you simply want to shoot them and your gun has  infinite  ammunition.  Just type the word chute  and the desired target in scanning range and the gun will fire.  The combat system is the same as every other mud.  It is nothing complex.

Accessibility of online therapy apps?

2019-02-11 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : turtlepower17 via Audiogames-reflector

Accessibility of online therapy apps?

Hi a..,I've been fighting with myself for months on whether to post this, but recent events are piling up for me and my fear of potential consequences for posting such a thing is being outweighed by all the shit I've been going through.Over the past couple of years, there have been a few online platforms for receiving therapy which have cropped up.
