Okay, yes. There is effort being made toward updating things. I like that magitek is now mission-based. That's cool.The current administration has been fairly stable for at least 3-4 years. What stops them from saying "Qinfo is no longer an issue. Discuss it privately, please, but otherwise go ahead. We're going to be making all this stuff into missions one day"What stops them doing that? The answer? Nothing. Well, one thing. Gatekeeping. They're hesitant to just give up the goods, which is actually rather funny since there's a doc floating around with qinfo in it.So do I appreciate that change is happening? Yes I do. But that doesn't mean that all mistakes and issues are forgiven and forgotten either. They could have done far, far more to address the qinfo situation, and while they are making strides, it's nowhere near enough.I know how to build a character, thanks. I've built several over the years, and as I say, I've got a legend str-vit character who mostly uses swordsman/templeknight.Regarding the bit about "you don't have to do quests to enjoy the game"? Um...okay, fine, that's fair. But they do provide benefits. Certain jobs are locked behind quests. Certain commands are locked behind quests. None of them are essential for you to be successful, but all are at least a little helpful. And to just say "well you don't have to do that so shut up and deal" is kind of silly. It was silly when elitists used it to defend their elitism in MUDs thirty years ago, and it's silly today.

I don't usually say this kind of thing simply because I've seen too much unfounded criticism already, but Jade don't you think anyone else would have gotten a caution for post 41?  I can imagine you telling them they are just stirring the pot, and that it's disrespectful to a developer, and that it doesn't need to be rehashed...This is exactly why I always have a separate personal account with no tie to my admin account, weather it be on a game or forum, and like I said right at the start, you really should have done that.Maybe that's just my style, terse, simple, as consistent as possible moderations with as little question and answer session or justification of my actions as possible, and a request that any issues with my moderation be discussed with me or another staff member privately, but it sure seemed to keep the BS down...Anyway, my intention is not to derail this topic, so I'd apprecaite it people wouldn't take this as an invitation to once again dog pile on Jade and use him as a punching bag to the detriment of the forum.

Don't be a jerk Zarvox, you know very well that STW has graphic animal killing in it.And yeah, ABL has a bear in that cave, that large bird that attacks you on the mountain after the Marauder, and that wild bore in the forest path to the demon, among others probably.I wouldn't suggest Shades of Doom because you kill birds, dogs, and rats in that one.

So it's only available to those who have gamer accounts, yet he'll only answer to those who post on said restricted forum...Great.I'm also not sure why this is happening now?  I could understand starting a new general audiogaming forum, but not one specifically for Aprone's online games.  Swamp never got it's promised update so the influx of new players fizzled out for the most part within a couple months, castaways2 is dead, and no other large projects like the planned Swamp Rewrite have come to fruition, so I'm not really sure what there is to talk about?  It's not like Questions directed towards Aprone about Swamp for instance, unless emergency stuff, were being answered here anyway, so I don't see how that's gonna change just because it's on a different website.Ideally of course, this will result in more experimental games which may turn into something, with easy access to already vetted testers, and more player feedback will be answered, but I'm not all that confident.I guess we'll just have to see if my cynicism is founded or not.

I'm not sure what niche this program is filling, seems more like a practice project to me.I mean typing 5.00 CAD in USD into Google for instance, gets you the same result.I could see this being useful for seniors who are scared of the internet/google though I guess.

It seems to be a general forum where you can talk about anything. There's just two areas where you can post any topic you like. The two areas are a tavern in which you are supposed to make an effort to be civil, and the street, where you should accept that to an extent, shit happens. At the moment Aprone is only allowing account holders to register in an effort to limit undesirables without having to do much admin. Seems he's open to the idea of branching out though. It remains to be seen whether it'll take off as a forum, or just be a place to ask game-related questions, or whether it'll prove to be too much hassle altogether.

I am not making a custom interpreter, I will not changing the python's sintax or anything, I only tailuring it to audiogames, like one may do with lua.I don't make this into a python library because I know what problems people face when dealing with imports, dependencies and so on, so I decided to make it in a standalone package, including the interpreter and probably a kind of compiler in the future.Can you clarify your post abit? @38, what you are doing is a custom interpreter. Sure, your not modifying the syntax or the internal functionality, but your embedding it for a reason. There's not really a point to embedding it for this reason, though. You could very easily make a kit for Python and call .NET from that using Pythonnet. You don't need to embed Python -- it will be a lot of time wasted because you'll most likely spend more time on getting the interpeter working than actually coding built-ins or extra functionality.

Ok I'll bite.I think most of you probably saw this coming so I won't hold off anymore. SBP is once again being discontinued, and this time for the last time, at least on our end. Part of the agreement with mason was that he was still allowed to maintain and develop his own version of sbp, so you may still see updates from him but of corse using the older sbp before it was rewritten, but I wouldn't count on it since I dout he cares much more than we do.I'm sorry to those I've dissapointed with this decision. I think it's been pretty obvious how little I've contributed to the rewrite in general, the last time I really worked on sbp was probably in about april of this year after which I just completely lost any hope that there was much that could ever be done with the game other than small bug fix updates. The rewrite only prolonged it's lifetime, and it's about time it died. Myself and Ivan both have bigger and better projects we have been spending most of our time on. There's my livestreams to think about, then there's bloodbath and extreme runner, both of which have much more potential and interest from testers than sbp probably ever did. Not to mention my livestreams which take up a lot of time I could be spending coding, but I'm not complaining because I enjoy those streams a lot hence why I've been doing so much lately.

I'm actually a conformist, it's a coincidence about supporting qinfo.Administration has shifted but the old administration is still looming in the background.Anyway, why does it take so much xp to level later on, Why do I need to be level 30, 60, or 100 to use this job,why do I need to be level 100 to have another race, why do missions ask for more mobs then I can kill in one go, why do I lose so much xp when I die, and I'm sure there's a bunch of more whys I left out.Someone even mentioned about so many overlapping jobs.For sure there is no perfect mud with other issues always popping up.

@40, no, Lua was explicitly designed to be embedded. Though Python has C bindings, I doubt its explicit goal was to be an embedded scripting language like Lua. _javascript_ is embeddable, yet its not easy to do because JS as not designed for embedding either. I don't know how good Pythonnet is compared to Iron Python, but Pythonnet does allow you full access to the CLR.

C# editor and compiler

So I eventually want to get a job in computer science field (I realize that the field is big and I will need to choose exactly what I want sooner or later) and one of the things somebody suggested was to learn more languages. Recently I brought up pathfinding and one of suggestions was to write it in another language besides Python. Since c++ seems to blow your head off if you screw up a small tiny thing, I decided to look into c#.I'll still be doing Python for the most part, but I'll also be trying to learn C# on the side. My question comes in terms of compilers/editors, I am pretty sure I'll be able to find plenty tutorials online.I heard of Visual Studio, but I have no clue as to what install to be able to create simple c# applications. I tried getting VS code to work with Python, key word being tried. I haven't heard of many cmd compilers for c#, so that's why I brought up VS code. I probably should get used to it anyways, since I feel like if I do get a job with c#, there's a good chance we could get VS up and running.So, suggestions as to what to install to be able to make c# apps will be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to gently remind you all that you may be setting your expectations a bit too high. When I played the game, it didn't seem too special (I actually prefer Shadow Line in some aspects). Sure there's fishing and there are also rumors of mining, but when you boil it down, fishing is a reflex minigame, and I don't know what mining will bring to the table, but I don't expect much. Combat seems quite basic as well, jumping over projectiles is the most special part I personally have encountered. I'm not saying that the game won't be good, but I'm gently reminding y'all that in the nutshell, there isn't much that sets this game apart from others.

I normally pass the ball, then hit circle to spin while running forward.  I'm trying to figure all this out as well, so half the time I end up losing yards as the receiver.  Slowly feel like I'm making progress though, which is encouraging.  Then I'll have a game where I can't complete a single pass.

The overlapping jobs and abilities thing is easy to answer. For abilities, it's so that people with different stat builds have access to similar attacks or buffs that would otherwise you wouldn't have. If you're coming from a game like alter, this might seem like a foreign, concept, but here, you have the freedom to pick and choose any job in any order, but a skill's effectiveness is highly dependent on your stats, with a few exceptions, like chemist abilities. Yes, in alter you have a minimum stat requirement to use abilities, and a few skills work better if you have a good amount of a specific stat, but your stats are limited by the game's maximum class level,. To further demonstrate, in alter, the damage of greater fireball and lightning bolt cast by a player is determined by cast level, of which at this time is maxed at 55. In uossmud, the damage of firaga and thundaga are determined by your wisdom stat, of which there is no limit. So, to demonstrate my point, you might have one hp draining ability that relies on wisdom, and another hp draining ability that relies on will. And that's why some jobs have seemingly overlapping abilities. As for overlapping jobs, great care has been taken to ensure that no two jobs play alike. Kinda like how priest is focused on solo healing, while cleric specializes in group healing.

Replay factor is subjective... there are people who will play the game again and again to try everything, and there will be people who play it once, decide it isn't for them, and ditch it. And anyone who knows what they're talking about and considers game console level is comparing it to older console titles, not this generation. This could easily be another ps2 RPG from the early era, similar to Shadow Rine. as for primitive sounds, that discussion has already been covered. Welcome to the Japanese school of sound design...

Actually I've played the concept demo which I loved. Much better compared to SR in terms of combat. I also listened to the show they also uploaded to the YT where you can hear a lot of new stuff, combat improvements. I am a huge fan of n64 games and this is what is reminding me that era in terms of sound, music and the overall atmosphere which is great.As I said before, it reminds me of zelda and this is great for me!For me replayability means a lot of content like secret stuff to unlock, many side quests, new game plus for example with news stuff. This is what many games had before, especially on PS consoles or mentioned n64.

Honestly I'd much rather it be done with angelscript since the syntax makes a lot more sence at least to me, but I can work with python and I'll still check it out when it gets released. I'd still advise you try to stick with angelscript though purely because that way at least devs won't have to rewrite there games just to work with your system.

I actually do like SBP and had some pretty big things for it planned. Here are some reasons why this never happened.1: Lack of interest. Most people were just tired if SBP this, SBP that. Given its history in the past I don't blame the peoople who were highly against a rewrite. However, there was some interest shown, so I wripped out the server code and a lot, and I do mean a lot of the client code and just rewrite it on the server. This as a result cleared up a lot of the mess we were dealing with. Players not syncing as htey should, items not removing from the client when they were no longer there anymore, problems with the server updater and custom servers, the server list going down and changing for no reason what so ever, on and on and on. I cleaned up the code and started everything up again. Asides from a few hickups here and there, we sorted everything out with the player safezones, etc. Still, there were only a few players who were online and most of them were just on afk.This brings me to my second point: time. I don't have the time this year as I once did, now that I'm starting college and trying to get my life in order, maybe even moving out on my own soon, I can't spend 3 days coding patches and adding new features. The demand in making online games is just too much at the moment, and I just want to keep myself very distant from online games for now. Anyway, I have left the server up on the machine if anyone happens. All maps and player data is still here.

@429 I totally disagree here. Not overhyping, but according to the demo alone, I could say that this game has potential and would certainly be bringing up something special to the table. I do build my expectations on what I've experienced from the public demo itself, plus some other factors. It's seemingly far better than Shadow Rine, as (while it has the basic RPG elements SR does have) it has more advanced combat, drastic expansion in terms of items, exploration and so on. And nop, how do you say that fishing and the like are limited to being them minigames while they're ones of major things in the game that would help you along your adventure? I mean dude, you can take advantage of fishing by grilling your catches or benefiting from them in maintaining your health, or even selling them as one of many ways to earn money. So needless to say: if this game would be as massive as SR with all of those expansions you folks see, I'm sure it'll be the best RPG audio game in its time. Again I'm not overhyping, I'm expecting the results if the game did really live up to what I've mentioned above, which is hopefully not strange to Galaxy Laboratory.

What's this about setting DMZ to a device that directly faces the internet? Isn't the router that particular device?When I tried the DMZ thing some times I put my computer's internal IP in there, then again I am not fully aware of the workings of DMZ.I have a cellular based connection yes, and the house I live in doesn't have the equipment for stuff like ADSL. It's also cool because I can use the router anywhere, unlike an ADSL thingy where it's fixed to a single address and the ISP has to swap it. Back on topic though... Oh by the way, I just have an Huawei b715 4G router, idk if that's a router / modem combo and i'm using a single router with devices connected to it through WLAN.According to my ISP, their cellular based connections are indeed behind NAT by default, and so they are a private IP address. Through an add on to the data plan, which adds 2 euros per month to the monthly bill by the way, an user can have a public IP. They especially say on their site that if you play online games, use a some sort of security camera or some such the installation of a public IP on the service is recommended so the services work better.It's just interesting how I could host crazy party servers through crazy party's own UPNP thing before the central server was a thing, but now, without UPNP, nope.

I could help you. Its actually not that complicated. The only thing you need to do before putting the ipa files on to your phone, is to create something called app specific password on apple.com. Its under the security section I believe. Then, download cidia impactor:www.cidiaimpactor.comYou'll also have to download the game that you wish to play.After that, open cidia impactor and connect your apple device to your pc. then press alt, two times right and five times down. You should be on a button called instal package, press it, locate your game, and then type your apple ID and your app specific password. The ipa file will start instaling automaticly, so give it a few minutes.After waiting check if the game you want to play is on your home screan.That's it. Overhyping is definitely a danger, as we have seen with games like A Hero's Call. As for this game, all I can say is that I can't give concrete facts one way or another. You all will just have to wait until the game comes out then judge for yourselves, but reasonable expectations shouldn't be forgotten.

@10 Unfortunately many currencies miss because the API I'm using does not include some currencies. To get more currencies I'd have to switch to a Paid but more complex API, but I do not have financial resources to handle the API as cheap as it could be.
