I've heard of people going to grocery stores and freaking out, buying way too much toilet paper and canned food. My college is still open but it has suspended all nonessential services.MLB, NHL, NBA and others have all suspended their seasons, and good for them. As annoying as it is, it makes sense.At this point, Covid 19 has gotten loose, and it's going to keep spreading. Estimates now say that approximately 71% of the population will get infected eventually, and that's on the kind side.A few observations from my side of things:1. Trump is foolish. This is a guy who has no idea how to deal with what's happening, and his ineptitude has no doubt made parts of this worse for his country. He, quite obviously, is not responsible for the virus itself, but the original lack of concern and dismissal was simply a bad idea. You can't politicize a pandemic, folks.2. It's reasonable to make sure that you've got food on hand sooner rather than later, by all means. You do not have to go full survivalist though, and start stacking vast quantities of toilet paper or masks or whatnot. Also, I wish people would stop stealing masks from hospitals and emergency rooms; that's a really excellent way to screw over medical staff and ensure that the virus spreads. Get some food in, then hunker down and wait this out.3. This thing is worse than the flu, and without any sort of vaccine as of yet, and the fact that now it's spreading and is generally not in easy control, this is going to get worse before it gets better. This is not, however, a pandemic that is going to destroy the whole world. A lot of the solutions being implemented are meant to limit the spread of the virus; they aren't a specific reaction to how serious the virus is. It's important to remember that, while this thing is no joke, it still does have a pretty low mortality rate. I'm not okay with millions dead, of course, but I'm also not okay with mass hysteria.4. No one is going to shoot you if you're under quarantine and you put your head out the door. The virus can't spread at distances greater than fifteen feet or so, not even in high wind. Not easily, anyway. If you want to step out on your porch or balcony to get some fresh air, you're not going to be shouted at to go back in. I just wouldn't recommend trying to get a group of friends to go party at the beach or something, that's all. Quarantine just means that public gatherings will be banned and a lot of services will close. You'd do yourself ill by trying to sidestep it.One thing I thought was quite nice, actually, is that my ISP has essentially removed datacaps on all packages until the end of the first week of April, pending further developments. Recognizing that a lot of people may be working from home, people won't be charged for overage fees. In Canada, and Ontario specifically, things are still pretty mild, so this seems an appropriate response. The one interesting thing will be to see what actually happens to citizens at home. I mean, you've already got right-wingers trying to bail out airlines and such, but, uh, what about bailing out people who can't work and don't have sick days to fall back on? I'd say your average citizen matters a fair bit more right now, and I have serious doubts that right-wing governments will take it seriously. Silly frappitalists; I just want to shake them all. It can also translate text in documents, and not just games. I'm pretty sure the development of Nyanchan Pinball is done, because of what Nyanchan himself is doing (he's in college and has a job). I had the soundtrack loaded in my steam library, but hadn´t installed it. As soon as I did that, the Music folder popped up right away. That explains why I didn´t see that. Dungeon Roll - Alexa version of the board game Hey folks,Since February I have been learning how to develop Alexa skills and after implementing a simple solo board game called Desolate, a few of my blind board game enthusiast friends requested Dungeon Roll as they really enjoyed playing the physical version of the game.I have been working on the game for over three weeks now and I have a playable build published as a private beta skill. At the moment, I have three heroes out of 8 that are in the physical game, but I will be adding each hero slowly as I develop the game further. Briefly, in Dungeon Roll you select a hero that has specific abilities and roll 7 dice to form your party. You enter the dungeon and in each level you encounter goblins, skeletons, or ooze monsters to battle. You discover chests and potions, and also fight a dragon. The goal of the game is to collect as much experience points as you can in three dungeon delves. I know the latest version of the firmware is 6.5, but is the underlying operating system still running 6.0 from 2007?I completely agree about Humanware and their lack of innovation. Look at the Apex, which didn't really add anything new or revolutionary. The original BrailleNote Touch is stuck on Android 4.4, the newer one is still running 8.1, the Stream and Trek products aren't being updated with interesting new features, etc, etc, etc. Hims has some interesting stuff going, but they're also significantly behind. I wish I had received a Pac Mate omni instead of a BrailleNote mPower. While the mPower was the device that got me interested in computing, the PacMate would have been so much more versatile. You encrypt with your private key, send to the server over there which has your public key, and the fact that it can be decrypted with your public key is proof that you're who you say you are.Thing about NVDA remote, though: you need a way to get the public key onto the target machine in advance, doing that kind of encryption adds a lot of overhead at every level, and you still have to run the man in the middle if you want to be able to use it in most environments (and if you want fast reconnects, then the man in the middle needs to be able to read some of the traffic).I would personally never trust NVDA remote to be secure, if only because getting public OSS servers in the first place was a massive headache. Its authentication, yes, but even if someone said they had encryption working I wouldn't trust it since this is far enough into the realm of inventing new protocols that it probably needs security experts involved. Re: warning about nvda remote I've always said NVDA Remote needs a public/private key system like SSH has for logging into servers. You generate a pair of keys, one public, the other private. The system being controlled has a copy of the public key, and anyone wanting to control that system must have a copy of the corresponding private key. When you try to control the computer with the public key, you enter the standard key like you normally would, then the two computers handshake, and during this handshake, the computer you're wanting to control demands you prove that you have the private key. I'm not sure how SSH handles this, but in some way, if I understand correctly, one machine will prove to another that it has the private key, without actually divulging that private key. This protects against all man in the middle attacks, since even if an evil server administrator had the key you use to log in, they still don't have, and can't get, the required private key. braille display donation?
braille display donation? Hey I was wondering if anyone had a spare braille display. It doesn't have to be working. I have a friend who would like to reverse engineer one. We want to see how it works. But they are prohibitively expensive and obviously since we're not blind we can't get one ourselves through some organization.I can pay for postage.
